Tommy Hilfiger Fall 2013 Collection

Posted on February 21, 2013

“Savile Row meets Ivy League.” You don’t get more upscale than that. This collection of tweedy, argyle preppiness from Tommy Hilfiger is fun, cute and tinged with an unexpected Britishness, with a ton of covetable pieces to be found throughout. It brought smiles to our faces and we couldn’t help but mentally start playing with the clothes and pairing them up in different ways in our heads. Some collections are like that; you can just look at them and see how you can build a wardrobe out of them.

  • Way fun, classy, and highly serviceable in a real world context. Bravo, Tommy!

  • Lattis

Reminds me of my idol, Emma Peel.

    • Snailstsichr

I liked this collection, but your comment made me LOVE it.

  • quiltrx

Pretty cool!  Some interesting things here, and some I don’t feel I’ve seen before (like the embossed leather(?) sweater dresses).  And I see some black/white shoes that I NEED big time!

    • Derek_anny

They made me think of the base of Joseph’s last look on PR.  Take that, judges.

Ugh, why do I love coats and sweaters so much when I live in the sub-tropics? I’m going to be living in that navy cable-knit sweater all summer, sitting in front of my ac. 😉

Seriously though, I love how well the pieces in this collection echo back to each other in a cohesive way. It reads as a whole collection instead of a grouping of mini-lines. The flow from plaid to argyle to cable-knit to pinstripe feels very organic, and the repeated details like high collars and high hemlines only serve to emphasize that. Plus, eminently wearable!

Happy to trade climates with you any time.  Yes, there is snow out my window.  The whole sweater/coat/boots thing becomes tedious really quickly.

      • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

Amen to that.  But I wouldn’t mind some pieces from this collection to keep me warm!

    • snarkmeister

That navy sweater grabbed my eye too, and I live in sunny California.  I also LOVE that the purse is slung down in front like a Scottish sporran.

  • Carrieanno

After looking at all the way out there/fantasy collections, this is the one that makes me go “ahhhh.”

  • Some of the coats with the fuzzy lining look so WARM! I want them all. They’re adorable and look like they’d stand up to a New England winter in a very fashionable way.

  • mhleta

This oversized 80s coat silhouette, I really hoped that would never come back.

  • MilaXX

Cute! I wasn’t expecting to like this, but I do.

  • PastryGoddess

    Ooooh embossed leather…me likey

  • Zippypie

I really like a lot of these pieces.  Nothing ground breaking or earth-shattering, just well done and great colors and patterns put together in surprising ways.  I like.

  • Death by plaid?

    • Billie_Dawn

Death by plaid is at the very top of my “ideal ways to kick off” list.

  • lalahartma

    Mostly “Yay!”

  • Beth G

Probably the one collection that I would buy ALL of it if I could… and if it came in my size.

  • j_anson

    Yawn. Pretty enough, but expected.

  • gabbilevy

Just me, or does half this collection belong at Burberry. That’s probably why it feels so “British.”

–Not that that’s a problem. I like it.

  • Pants_are_a_must

“This winter, in New York Fashion Week! TOMMY HILFIGER! More British than Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy! More tweed than in an episode of The Hour! More in-your-face, up-your-nose preppiness than in every stereotypical Ivy League movie ever made! HILFIGER! Because he lives in an argyle hell!”

    (it’s a cute collection, though)

  • Qitkat

I love everything but rows 2 and 5, too much dead lamb, not from a peta point of view, they just look bulky and easily matted, like an underbrushed sheepdog.

  • one of each please!

  • How do I get all these things in my life without going broke?

  • Lisa M. (ReVoir) Kramp

What a wearable collection! I really like it and the coats are fantastic.

  • kimmeister

    I like the houndstooth-within-checkerboard print!

  • Verascity

Wow, this is much better than I expected when I saw the title.

  • NYCGlamourpuss

I just can’t with this one.  Tommy Hilfiger has never failed to bore the hell out of me, and this is no exception.  The only Hilfiger garments I’ve ever owned are socks.

    • I was really worried I was the only one who thought this, but yep- I thought this too, and still do.

  • barbarienne

Much too preppy for my closet, but well done and would look great on a woman who suits this style.

In row 7 (4th row from the bottom) — are those leather dresses embossed with a cable knit pattern? If so, I have to say that is freaking cool.

  • Gaaaah! Dog bed coats. Just say no to dog bed.

  • BigWhiteGrannyPanties

Why do so many collections have that piece of color blocked strip down the middle of the shirt/top/bodice?  It looks stupid and craft show/Project Runway-esque.  Other than that, I really liked these pieces.  I want many of them NOW.

  • BuffaloBarbara

I love this!  And more coats that I want.  Yay.  I need a coat, too.  This is out of my price range, but I know what sort of thing I’ll be looking for.

  • RzYoung

Ich, sorry I can’t stand TH

  • A totally wearable wardrobe. I could see myself wearing this collection to work on a daily basis.

  • Alyssa

First jacket, third row – I want so bad!!!

  • formerlyAnon

With the exception of a few of the coats, which are very nice, this collection contains a lot of pieces I’d buy if I found them seriously marked down as “work clothes” but would never love. Even though they’d give years of good service. And some I’d never buy at any price – like all of rows 3 and 7.

  • Indigo54

Looks like TH has run out of ideas.   Boring.

  • CatherineRhodes

Love every single piece. Can’t wait to go shopping!

  • chitowndg

Love the cable stamped leather.  The cardigan!

  • libraangel

Yes, very nice, but I don’t want to see any more plaid.

  • Sara LaBatt

Love the mustard-wine combo in row 3.  Especially the coat on the far left with plaid lapels.  Really great look.  I like this more than I thought I would, “Tommy Hilfinger” (as my mother in law INSISTS on saying when she buys something with his stamp in it for my husband at Costco) doesn’t usually appeal to me.

  • guest2visits

I do love the plaids, tweeds etc… but that row of white fluff trimmed coats remind me of the ill-fittng and unattractive ones
    from the 70s.

  • Really cute collection, but I wanted to see more of the pieces UNDER the coat.
