Rachel Weisz in Victoria Beckham

Posted on February 14, 2013

Lorenzo loves this a bit more than Tom does, but we’re both appreciative of her choice of color, on a red carpet that seems to have banned it.

Rachel Weisz attends the premiere of ‘OZ The Great And Powerful’ in Los Angeles in a Victoria Beckham dress paired with a Tiffany bracelet and a Lanvin clutch.

Victoria Beckham Spring 2013 Collection/Model: Kasia Struss

It’s a sharp dress, certainly. But it looked more interesting when it had the double straps. In fact, the runway look is infinitely more interesting, even if it does look a bit overdone. We’re fine with simplifying a design after it leaves the runway, but a lot of interest was taken out of this dress. The changes make it feel more casual somehow, which makes her somewhat formal hair and makeup feel incongruous. Some more jewelry would’ve definitely helped to dress this up. And it’s clearly a bit too tight on her.

Hair and makeup: A++ that chignon is really cool.
The dress is great, until the exposed zipper in the back. Sorry it always makes things look like they’ve been put on inside out.

    • Lori

Her love of the exposed zipper is one thing that consistently drives me nuts about Victoria Beckham’s clothes. I really wish she’d get over it.

      • l_c_ann

At some point in the future on a hot summer’s day, Victoria is going to sit on an exposed metal zipper, and because of the design, sans underwear and the zipper is going to either pinch the dickens out of her or maybe even burn her.  That might change the exposed zippers because esthetics aren’t going to.

        • luciaphile

I have the sneaking suspicion that Ms. Beckham belongs to an alien race that doesn’t suffer pain the way we more mortals do.

        • Noting the type of shoes that lady wears I don’t think a zipper pinch is going to sway her.

    • Vlasta Bubinka

Yeah, and this zipper looks like a sheer mesh ass panel.

  • YayaGurl

“Hey, eyes up here fellas, not on the arrow pointing at my boobs.”

  • DeborahJozayt

This is how your face should look on the cover of a magazine, Mrs. Weisz.

    • Suzanne Johnson

She’s not “Mrs. Weisz.” Weisz is her maiden name.

      • DeborahJozayt

But I don’t think she’s taken her husband’s name. I’m married, but never took my husband’s name, so I’m still called “Mrs. Jozayt” even though that’s my maiden name as well.

  • it’s a bit casual. It looks like a cute sundress that you’d throw a pair of flip flops or gladiator sandals with, grab a shoulder bag and a pair of shades, and meet the girls for a weekend lunch.

But I will say she looks really young and fresh, and I love that about it- just not for this particular event.

  • rloliveira

A dress for a dinner on the beach in Hawaii.

  • It’s a lovely colour on her, but the dress just seems a bit to casual for the venue.

    • judybrowni

Well, at least it’s not the dirty bra color the model is wearing.

    • Alyssa

I think if she had kept the double straps and accessorized it properly, it would look much more appropriate for the red carpet. Great color indeed.

  • It does look a bit resort/beachy.

    • riseoverrun

Agreed. I can’t help but think that the top portion looks like a bathing suit.

      • A bathing suit that doesn’t fit. It’s weird – the cups gap at the top on the right side and yet it’s not covering the side boob, meaning the cup is too shallow. Maybe Victoria Beckham designs for her own strangely-shaped, badly done boob job.

  • Janet B

Too casual and too summery for the venue.
    I like her hair.

  • fursa_saida

Agree with the oversimplification criticism. I never expected to be typing this, but I miss the hip panels.

  • Tatiana Luján

yes, the dress is too tight, but I love its simplicity, I love the color, and I love her hair and makeup.
The real deal is I love Rachel Weisz and I was rooting for an outfit I could like.

  • Rachel Weisz can’t seriously have back fat. Or at least, when you have millions of dollars and a stylist, we shouldn’t know you have it.

    • Sobaika

Shoving oneself into a dress with such a cut that doesn’t fit perfectly would give an Olsen twin back fat.

  • iCouture

Love the double straps and the knee length of the runway look!!  Rachel would have looked pretty damn flawless in that

  • Sobaika

I love it, but she needed some jewelry or different hair – too bare up top.

  • Zzzzzz..is it over? what a snoozer- they took an interesting dress and made it…12 year olds are making this at home. The pooching tummy is sad. It got her mentioned online- job done.

  • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

Hate the whole thing.  What’s worse is, she could have looked BEAUTIFUL with just a few changes.  What makes my eyes twitch is that the dress is just too tight on her.   What’s wrong with going up a size?

    • LLuL

Exactly. But she looks surprisingly good considering the dress doesn’t fit her anywhere. Let’s see, we’ve got back fat, her hips are being pulled into a strange shape, the bust is low and oddly proportioned, the zipper is bunched up, etc. On paper, she shouldn’t have left the house.

    • She was probably offered a sample, in which case it’s up to her to fit the dress, not the other way around.

      • Adriana_Paula

I was wondering about this!  Helen Mirren’s gray dress the other day clearly fit her despite her not being a sample size; so why does this happen some times but not others?  Does Rachel have less pull than Helen, or is it that Helen pays for her clothes rather than having them loaned, or what?

        • AthenaJ

What I don’t get is why do celebrities who have millions of dollars settle on loaned clothes that don’t fit them… if they like a dress/outfit/pair of shoes so much, just BUY the damn thing in a size that fits!!

  • Call me Bee

That is so funny, because I thought the runway dress was very casual (reminds me of gym-wear) and the RC dress looks dressier to me.  Either way–Miss Rachel looks sharp.  Love the hair.
(And maybe she soulda talked to Miss Michelle about her clutch.  The clutch here looks a lot like the Target clutch, and I’m sure it cost thousands more…!)

  • The runway version looks like a Frau Klum dress. The red one is a bit Star Trek uniform. I love what’s happening above the shoulders though.

  • Isana Leshchinskaya

that makeup is phenomenal on her. and i like the juxtaposition of the well-defined eye and very clean lines in the hair and dress. it is a skosh too tight though. but beautiful and striking. love me some rachel.

    •  Me too, there was no one more beautiful to me than her in “About a Boy”. She can do no wrong IMO.

  • MilaXX

The dress feels too bare. Either she needs to let her hair down, or she needs some earring to punch this look up.

  • m0r0

The dress looks a little tight in the front but Fabulous from the back.
I agree with the runway look commentary.

  • Anniebet

No no no. Looks like a nautical tee shirt gone wrong. Those straps look like elastic bands! And what is with the weird bulge in her hip area in the third pic? She’s usually gorgeous. Here she isn’t, IMO. Her face has bold features, and needs some softening that a more flattering hairstyle could bring. The hair is done beautifully, just too severe for her.

  • jilly_d

Lovely color, but those are two of the saddest little straps I’ve ever seen.

  • j_anson

She’s like a reverse black widow! Versus the runway, I like the color so much more, but agree that the straps weren’t the right detail to edit out.

  • Judy_J

The fit is all wrong and is ruining the lines of the dress.  She looks dumpy, and I’m sure that’s not what she had in mind.

  • …and not supporting her boobs.  Too bad, had potential!  Love the hair.

  • Annabelle Archer

    Do. Not. Like.
It’s too tight by far. While the hair and make up are executed well, they are severe and aging.
I love Rachel, this gives me a sad.

  • SugarSnap108

Sorry, no.  It’s colorful, sure.  But the straps look like the elastic I used to sew into my ballet slippers (and appear less supportive), and the dress is far too tight.  She is clearly a very thin woman, but the dress is giving her back “fat” hangover in the last shot.

  • alyce1213

This could have been pretty nice if the fit had been better. The color is beautiful.
But the front is loose and haphazard and the back is so tight as to create skin/fat overhang on this very thin woman.  I don’t understand how that is.
I can’t agree on the preference for double straps. The runway model looks like the top of her bra and bra straps are sticking out. Even as a single strap, it’s looks like a cheap elastic notion.
She’s awfully pretty, great smile. I love her makeup and the hair is especially nice.  Severe, but she has the face for it.

  • rumcg66

I usually hate the exposed zipper, but I don’t mind it here for some reason. I do wish she’d kept the bodice the same as the runway version, though; it looks like a bathing suit on top here.

  • I don’t know why it  is but I just don’t care for Victoria Beckham’s design aesthetics.

  • ankali

I would have no problem with this if it fit her properly.

  • kimmeister

The gold bracelet makes it look like the clutch is a wristlet, at first glance.

  • rtuko

mmm, I don’t know. The top half looks too tight, and her boob cups are too small.

  • Monabel

More than a bit too tight. Does not do a thing for her.

  • stubbornthoughts

If it fit right, that angled full body shot would’ve been divine.

  • appliquer

Runway dress is much more interesting – without the contrasting fabrics and straps, this just looks sort of cheap.

  • OK the likes a lot: hair (beautiful), make-up (amazing) and most of the style/color of this dress.
Dislikes: the exposed zipper seems to be a new trend and for an otherwise formal gown, I think that it is stupid.
My other gripe is that more endowed women (rather than models) don’t look as good in spaghetti straps, the side boob armpit flub is unappealing. I’m NOT saying she is fat or too big at all! I just think that more (fabric) coverage where the under arm and bust meet would look better (maybe it’s just the fit).

  • Zippypie

Beautiful color and her makeup and hair look great.  The fit of the dress is a real problem and I agree she should have kept the double strap and bodice details because without, it’s kind of boring.  But the fit! Oooof!  Too tight!

  • The catwalk version is a thousand times better. Couldn’t she have worn some earrings of a necklace?

  • Imasewsure

Like it even if it is a bit simple… wish she had thrown on some amazing little jacket or something…. it’s really nice in LA this week but it is still winter somewhere!

  • clatie

This looks like a floor length bathing suit.

    • maggiemaybe

YES! That was my thought exactly — Hello Esther Williams! Love the color, though.

  • JauntyJohn

Love the color but I can’t help thinking “Super Hero Evening Wear.”

  • butter nut

i like it, but it doesnt fit her.  1 size up & this coulda been something special.

  • E. D.

Blech – looks like a bathing suit.  Like the hair and makeup.

  • Jecca2244

no, no, no. I say this after homemade carbonara and a bottle of cava (the mister had the other half), but it is too tight and the top looks like a bad tank top. something you buy at the Gap then it stretches. She is such a beautiful woman. Her face..breathtaking.

  • Trisha26

Casual is the word that came to mind. And I’m really tired of exposed zippers. Hair & makeup are the standout.

  • Monkey Toe

I think that Kasia Struss has modeled the most clothes seen on the backs of celebrities on TLO. If you want your clothes discussed, send fabulous Kasia in them down the runway.

  • MaryAtRealityTea

I love the color and her makeup, but something is not working. It reminds me of my grandmother’s slip mixed with an old bathing suit on top. Also I think the fit is off. I think softer hair would help a lot.

  • The detail under the bust makes it look like the dress is scrunched up under her boobs until the photo gets in really close. Somebody should have stepped back to photo taking distance and realized that when she was trying the dress on.

  • Can you guys please address the fit and the pulls of fabric?

    • Read the last sentence again.

      • Lilak

In terms of the photos you’ve posted, you are certainly correct (but of course!) in your assessment . . . However, I just saw a photo of the straight-on back view, and good golly:  “a bit” too tight (even emphasized with “clearly”) is too kind for that particular angle.

Oh, Rachel … you have all the goods to look flat-out awesome all the time (what so many wouldn’t GIVE, you know?), and yet there’s always at least one FUNDAMENTAL thing wrong.

  • Corrie Hill

The cut is nice but that is not a forgiving fabric.

  • Why does no one ever look good in Victoria Beckham’s dresses, except Victoria Beckham?

  • emchicago

it looks a little like a one-piece bathing suit on top, haha, but I think she looks very pretty.  it is crazy that she is over 40

  • Judy_S

I agree that it looks like a bathing suit, but I think that’s part of the design. I would say the wit of the dress has to do with looking like cheap jersey exercise wear (hence the tight fit and ridiculous straps), but also looking like an evening gown, and that Ms. Weisz is wearing it perfectly.  In itself the dress may not be very interesting, but it makes her look great, which counts for something surely.
Someone says she looks dumpy. Hah. the tight dress reveals a tiny bit of tummy, very feminine, to my eye.

  • spooki C

I kinda looks cheap but the runway version is very fab. Her clutch looks like a box of chocolates.

  • PeggyOC

I love all of it except the little detail thing under the boobs.  Makes the top look like a swim suit to me.

  • Susan Collier

Her skin in her little triangle tummy cutout almost matches the little belt-interest  color so the whole thing is confusing visually. Also, making that belt detail the same color as the dress made the boob area saggy looking. It’s an Almost. I do love the color. Hate the ass zipper.

  • Fordzo

Every time I see someone with this hairstyle, I cannot – CANNOT – unsee the women in the Robert Palmer video, and then Addicted to Love is stuck in my head all day long.

  • I love this color on her, it looks brilliant. But, I can’t stand exposed zipper.

  • n a

That’s the thing when you get to be a certain age… Even with a bangin body, you still need support… And to get front support wo a bra, the dress has to be tight… Thus resulting in the backfat appearance. It happens, even with thin people. I feel ya girl…

  • The never-ending exposed zip makes my eye twitch.

  • StephanieLovesTLo

The runway version in that persimmon color would be divine.

  • Julie Liang

I’m convinced she’s a vampire.  Does she never age?

  • Schitt-I should look so bad.  ; )

  • I love the runway look!

  • kathrineb

So close…She is such a beautiful woman. Hair and make are are great. I like the dress. I just think its missing a wow factor, some jewelery would not have gone astray.

  • Lisa M. (ReVoir) Kramp

A flawless chignon at last! Her hair is glorious. And I like the color of the dress.

  • BigWhiteGrannyPanties

I feel like she is wearing a swimsuit that has been turned into a dress.

  • shelley514

  • bd73

it feels like a full-length swimsuit. there’s something ‘athletic’ about the combination of cut, color and style. i really see cameron diaz in this.
