Oscars 2013 WERQ: Jessica Chastain in Armani Privé

Posted on February 25, 2013

We’re not quite ready to crown her the best of the night (there are other candidates to discuss), but looking at it again in the light of day, there’s no doubt that this look was one of the highlights of the red carpet.

Jessica Chastain attends the 2013 Academy Awards in a custom Armani Privé gown paired with Christian Louboutin shoes and Harry Winston jewelry.

We wouldn’t normally praise a dress the color of old lingerie – or the color of the wearer’s hair, depending on the light – but this is so beautiful and fits her so well that we can’t really work up the negativity. Top it off with stunning hair and makeup and we have no choice but to roll our necks, snap our fingers, and implore her to “WERQ!” that thing. Nicely done.

If this dress had been a shade of green to match her eyes, it would have been 100% best dressed no question..

      • charlotte

Look at the woman in the green dress standing behind her in some of the pictures. Wouldn’t that shade have been amazing?

        • http://www.snoskred.org/ Snoskred

That color would have been perfection, IMO. ;)

        • NC_Meg

Yes! I saw this last night and thought it was pretty, but it’d be a show stopper in green or teal. Ironically, the lady behind her is wearing the exact color I had in mind!

      • sockandaphone

seriously! this is why its not a werq for me i just cant get past the dowdy color.

      • Melissa Brogan

Seriously! I will get worked up about it if TLo won’t! ANY OTHER COLOR and this would be near perfection.

      • dschubba

I’m sure the color would have worked on her, but redhead in a green sweetheart gown is well-trod Oscar RC territory, especially in recent years. (See: Amy Adams, Isla Fisher, even Viola Davis)

    • Sobaika

Hmmm. I thought this was more of a personal best as opposed to a werq.

Still, she looks very elegant and understated (with just the right amount of interest).

      • https://twitter.com/Gayer_Than_Thou Gayer Than Thou

I agree, re: personal best v. werq.  I think I’d like it better if it were a little more overtly copper-colored.

        • Introspective

agree with this. when i saw it on tv i thought she was reverting to the same dishwater/dirty bra color that’s been all the rage on the RC this season.

but in fact she does look amazeballs now that we see the hints of copper in the light of monday morning. so indeed a more saturated color would have knocked all those other dresses out of the water.

hair, makeup and jewelry are flawless. cant deny that homegirl is serving it.

          • http://profiles.google.com/grubhooligan J. Owen Dickson

Very strange…  On my tv screen, it looked VERY copper.  Looked like a much better color than what I see in these photos.  But yes, having seen it look more copper, I can confirm that it looks better the more overtly copper-colored it gets.

      • SassieCassy

i would agree, it did not look that great on camera. it looked like a glitzy beige gown. i did not realize there was silver.

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/Lucía-Gavello/1253586868 Lucía Gavello

I agree, she looks beautiful but I’d give WERQs to quite a few ladies over her (oddly enough, most of them not nominated).

        • Sobaika

Strange, right? There were a few great looks but not many came from the actual nominees.

        • http://twitter.com/SamH4Prez Samantha

Same! I found myself looking at red carpet pics and giving WERQs to ladies who I had never heard of before.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1266410766 Phyllis Craine

She’s gorgeous in that gown and knows it, which is perfect!

    • http://profile.yahoo.com/QK3MTAHUVJCMI7DANY6WFCAIUM n a

beautiful.  a couple of moments she channeled Jessica Rabbit just a for a sec (just the flowy hair & gown shape) but, really…stunning.

      • momjamin

Yes, that’s who the last side-shot reminded me of, especially with the anti-gravity girls with her elbow thrown back.

    • ChaquitaPhilly

      Right on, Guys!
      She looked wonderful/beautiful/etc.

    • Beardslee

Lovely.  I like the color on her a lot and it fits like a dream.

    • http://profile.yahoo.com/37TPKASIMXVUPYK5BNQFOL43KU Carina

      Flawless and stunning. Snaps up!

    • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

My first thought was that it was too close to her skin tone/hair color.  But it grew on me over the evening.  It is, above all other considerations, perfectly fitting from every angle. And perfectly hemmed, which a number of ladystars could not claim. (Looking at YOU, Reese!)

      • http://www.facebook.com/darva.sutra Darva Sutra

Agree – the craftsmanship and fit on that dress was breathtaking! Armani took care of her fantastically, as he did with Naomi Watts.
The color was mediocre, though, I am guessing that part came from her.  Don’t see why she does the neutral look so frequently.  Sure, it’s a trend now, but with her fantastic coloring she needs to skip it.

      • StellaZafella

Everybody else seems to want a color…no doubt there was an appalling lack of it on the RC this year. But here I feel like I can see what she intended and achieved: Monotone is the design choice (and a risky one at that) but she doesn’t look wishy-washy to me like the others in pastels – she is, in short – her own golden statuette!

    • OrigamiRose

Absolutely nothing to dislike here, every detail – down to the nail polish – is perfect.

      • http://hearmeintheharmony.wordpress.com/ Melanie

Oh, see, I don’t like the matchy manicure that much.  Especially when she went opposite on the earrings.

    • http://twitter.com/foodycatAlicia foodycatAlicia

Glorious hair and makeup, fantastic shape gown, but I wish it was blue.

    • f_yeah_marie

Breathtaking.  Her hair and makeup were on point!

    • Jecca2244

I love that she’s not wearing a blue or green like she’s “supposed to” because of her coloring. She looks beautiful…and happy with the dress.

      • Adriana_Paula

        Completely agree.

    • teensmom99

Have to quote a friend’s 1st reaction: “Jessica Rabbit.”

      • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_BARN2K234KUKPF5RACXYEFZ4HI Maggie

My first reaction was to start singing “Happy Birthday Mr. President” but neither one of those is an insult.

        • sk8tfan

She even said on the red carpet that she fell in love with it because it felt totally “Happy Birthday Mr. President” to her, so you’re right.

          • teensmom99

Indeed, not “Happy b-day, Mr. President” and Jessica Rabbit are not insults.

    • Annabelle Archer

Meh. It’s pretty. It’s, dare I say, flawless. But it’s also very safe and practically screams “I’m just honored to be a nominee.”

    • Chrisie brown

Wow there must not have been much going on last night if this was one if the best…

    • MaryAtRealityTea

I think she looks so elegant. Personal best for sure.

    • Buffy

      I love this

    • http://twitter.com/FlaviaGPantoja Flavia Pantoja

I can’t WERQ it. She looks good, no question, but the color of the dress is just ‘blah’. Hair and makeup are hgorgeous though.

    • eowyn_of_rohan

Wow, this showed up on my TV as nothing but old bras sewed together.  Was not expecting that level of beading detail.

    • Zubair Ghumro

      I totally dislike it…am I weird?

      • capybara_cafe

Nope. The silhouette is great for her, but the dress itself is nothing spectacular. Add in the fact that it’s basically the same color has her hair and nails, it’s just too much “bleehh”.

      • http://profile.yahoo.com/Y4AN43RWROYIRJSWGLJ35ODVK4 ladylady

I am with you.  The color is too blah and the pattern reminds me of a skinned salmon.  Had it been salmon *colored* I would have liked it better.  Love the hair, nails, and makeup, and she has a great figure, but it just seems boring.  Almost any other shade or color would have looked better, imho.

      • oldbobbydraper

        no, you’re not.

she is one giant blob of beige. i can’t tell where dress ends and body or hair begin.

plus, the whole dress has the look (color AND texture) of a shed snake skin.

    • afabulous50

      Hollywood Glam – love it!

    • kmk05

But it is so beige! Can’t argue with the hair, makeup or fit of the dress, though. I like that it was slinky and kind of shimmery, but I still can’t quite get behind the matchiness to her hair and nails.

    • par3182

It’s veering into Jessica Rabbit territory…and, sadly, not in a good way.

      Awful color.

    • SewingSiren

Way to work the iridescent and sequin netting. Probably the best look of the night.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100001998855370 Fatima Siddique

Finally! She found a dress that fits her bust properly. I agree that this is more of a personal best than a werq.

    • http://twitter.com/DuBey2 Marie Fessler

TLo, please, don’t forget to cover Adelle(both looks), Jane Fonda,Samantha Banks, and Reese.  Also Anne’s and Amanda’s performance dresses.   Thank you for this.  I was dying to read commentary after Oscars last night and totally forgot about your Twitter (showing my age here)

    • SassieCassy

not loving the fit around her midsection or the shoes (EW) but she looks pretty

    • bxbourgie

I’m surprised TLo!  You guys usually hate when the paler skinned ladies wear dresses that match their skin tone.. and in this case hair as well.  She looks beautiful in it tho, no doubt.  What’s on her feet though… that peek of foot in the last picture.. It looks like an orthopedic shoe!

    • Fordzo

      Spider webs.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Julie-Chase/731391326 Julie Chase

The color keeps it from being a WERQ for me. But the hair, makeup, and fit are impeccable.

    • oyeyemi808

    • piecesofconfetti

I think this one was my favorite of the night, and normally I don’t like Chastain’s choices. I don’t think she’s edgy or fierce enough for all the McQueen she wears. This suited her perfectly and came off elegant and glamorous. Brava.

    • Kayceed

I thought the color was much better than most nudes we see – it was verging on an apricotty-copper that both complemented her coloring and contrasted enough with her skin to be really flattering. And the fit was perfect. Well done.

    • decormaven

I think this was a well-chosen style, and the color is very flattering to the skin/hair color. The earring/bracelet choices are interesting- I’d like to have seen more gold in the earrings to tie them to the bracelet, but that’s minor.

    • Violina23

For something with virtually no color, I couldn’t take my eyes off it. Brava!

    • Judy_J

Old school Hollywood glamour at its finest.  Somewhere I’m sure Rita Hayworth and Veronica Lake were nodding in approval.

    • merciblahblah

I agree with your personal best comment, but it’s interesting, because I thought it looked much better on screen than in photographs. I could see more depth of color on screen. Until I saw it on the telly, I thought – ANOTHER blah skin toned dress? Arrrggghhh!!! But when on screen, I warmed up to it.

    • Ediths_Head

Doesn’t it bother anyone else that it’s too tight under the overlay? Why do these skinny, skinny women think their dresses need to be too tight? Not elegant, darling.

    • cmb123

Eh…she looked beautiful but BORING. This wasn’t even in my top 3 best dressed of the night. Hair and makeup were great, and the fit is great, but without any color at all, this was dead on arrival for me.

    • lbl

I’m surprised you guys gave this a WERQ. There’s no doubt that she looks beautiful, but I’m underwhelmed. I preferred her stunning blue Roland Mouret from this awards season despite the fact that it seemed a little tight.

Also, although I don’t think they’re similar, this reminds of the dresses Anne Hathaway wore during her last awards season back in 2009(?) for Rachel Getting Married. It just has the same feel to it.

    • Jessica Goldstein

To my eye, the color is just coppery enough to not remind me of old lingerie, plus I think it’s divine with her skin and hair. Speaking of which, that hair was amazing, as was her makeup. I think she was a total knockout last night.

    • http://twitter.com/algaechick algaechick

These pictures look much better than the first ones I saw. I guess it was the shadowing from the fabric, but at first it looked to me like it was partially see-through and I was seeing dark bra and panties.

    • elemspbee

If this is a werq on that red carpet, that says more about the state of dressing affairs last night. Dullsville.

    • Corsetmaker

Lovely, like frosted antique gold. It does have colour, quite a strong colour but the beading is veiling it. It’s a lovely effect and I’d guess more vivid in person. And the fit, and length is perfect. Her dress most certainly.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_VZLU6YVO4BRTELTTH3GRAAMWZQ Dot

I don’t know. I just don’t see a “WERQ.” Her hair and makeup are gorgeous, but the shade of the dress really does nothing for her. In face, it matches her freaking hair. Maybe I’d feel differently if the dress were…practically any color other than this one.

    • Call me Bee

      Agree 100%.  Beautiful!

    • http://profiles.google.com/epsteincj Claudia Epstein

I viewed the dresses last night through my “TLo filter” and that helped. So far I was close on a lot of them.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=755957928 Veronica Russek

She looks gorgeous there… And I want that bracelet!

    • IMNAngryLiberal

When you look at this dress in close-ups, it is stunning.  It fits her well and her hair and makeup are fab .. but the color looked really drab on the red carpet.

    • gabbilevy

This stood out as the best of the neutrals, on a night when half the ladies were wearing neutrals. Total WERQ.

    • margaret meyers

That dress is making the most of her fabulous figure.   Her awards season dresses do sort of run together (similar color and silhouette), but she saved the best for last.

    • http://www.facebook.com/AdriannaGrezak Adrianna Grężak

This is quite beautiful. You can tell a lot of thought went into this choice

    • KayEmWhy

      Jessica Rabbit 2013!

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=603005248 Jeff Warhurst

I don’t think this is a WERQ; but I’m not paid the big bucks.  LOL

    • mozzer0906

agreed, she looked fabulous despite the color of the dress, that deserves a werq

    • Elaine Lang

hate the color.    HATE HATE HATE.    Dear white ladies:   stop wearing beige.    Leave it to our more melanin-blessed sisters to WERQ that shit.   Because we look sad and invisible in it.

    • http://asskickingadviser.com/ Ass Kicking Adviser

Chic on a stick. She shoulda’ won.

    • leave_Blake_alone

If this had been any other color, literally ANY OTHER COLOR, it would be a 100% WERQ and quite likely the best of the night. Everything is flawless. Except that color, particularly on her. That demotes it to a “werk?”/IN but not more than that.

    • http://www.facebook.com/melanie.martin47 misfit47

Beautiful fit, design and textural elements, but still I thought the color was too drab. I agree with those below: a stronger copper or a green would have been stunning.

    • http://twitter.com/DarthJaeda Jaeda Laurez

I adore the dress, but as with everyone else, I REALLY thought it would have been better in a purple or a strong green. As it was, it was stunning (that beadwork is AMAZING), but it could have been even more.

    • twocee

Bo-ring.  In a color?  Gorgeous.  In the dishwater beige?  Meh.

    • http://twitter.com/nuanc Nancy SM Waldman

Jessica’s colouring would work so amazingly with most saturated colours. I see her in turquoise or teal, green, any shade of blue. Contrast, girl! But, having said that, I agree that this is a beautiful dress that she looks great in.

    • SapphoPoet

    • http://twitter.com/damienpida damien H.

the dress is so effortless on her and accessorized perfectly. she looks stunning.

    • http://hearmeintheharmony.wordpress.com/ Melanie

The only thing I don’t like is the earrings.  Why silvery?  The bracelet, with its touches of gold/bronze in addition to the diamonds/silvery, works so much better.  Something about the Oscars brings out the best in her (see last year’s McQueen).

    • Damien W

As I tweeted last night, she’s serving Jessica Rabbit realness.  The whole look would have tanked if the dress wasn’t perfectly fitted to the millimeter. But since it looks painted on, it’s quite an artful package she’s selling.

    • Stubenville

Gorgeous, but if only the dress were a shade or two darker (or if it had been worn by a dark skinned woman), it would have ticked all the boxes.

    • http://twitter.com/MarfMom Maya

if this dress had been any other color, it would have been perfection.

    • BrooklynBomber

Always smart to dress up AS Oscar when you go to the Oscars. It’s almost always a hit.

    • ojosazules

She looks amazing. I know it was not effortless, but it has that vibe- which is one of my fashion favorite things.

    • Alyssa

She looks absolutely stunning. She always seems to pull it all together for the Oscars. Gorgeous dress, not too fond of the color, but it’s got enough shimmer to keep it from being boring. Great hair & makeup – love the lip color!

    • mmc2315

The thing that saves it from the being the dreaded old lingerie is the texture on the fabric.  WERQ!

    • Janet B

The best use of a “non-color” on the Red Carpet award goes to Jessica.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Clydette-Wantland/673315286 Clydette Wantland

      Flawless.  Perfect.  Gorgeous.

    • alyce1213

I’m glad to get a closeup look at the fabric, which is actually a rich copper color, not at all colorless.
Unfortunately, it washes out in the distance under the beading.  Maybe the beading should have been darker; I think that would be even more dramatic.
      It fits her beautifully.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Jessica-TallGirl-Freeman/1043623567 Jessica TallGirl Freeman

At least she makes up for just about every appalling red carpet appearance in one night. Bravo darling.

    • http://twitter.com/lisledanielle Danielle Lisle

Elegant and old-school glamour. Wasn’t on board with the color but everything else was fierce.

    • MsALVA

Eh, I thought it was kind of boring and predictable. Strapless and shiny and colorless, bleh.

On the other hand, Amanda Seyfried’s custom McQueen was GORG, but you couldn’t tell unless you looked at it really closely, because the embroidery was so amazingly detailed.

      • PeaceBang

And Amanda Seyfried’s custom McQueen had bust fit issues, and she had horrible Black Swan eye make-up and didn’t know how to move in her get-up.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=149100065 Virginia McMurdo

She is stunning. Her hair looked like glass and the body…..woah. The dress fit like a dream. I loved the bronze on her, too, just a shimmering pool of redheaded beauty.

    • formerlyAnon

It’s a beautifully fitted and lovely gown, but a tad blah, IMO. A deeper color, or a good necklace?

    • Noshmek

Hate the color.  If it had been the same shade as her lips, that would have been something to see.  This.  No.

    • nannypoo

This is a beautiful dress and she looks great in it. The styling is great too. Love the color.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_3JSTXMWWVZN2QNP2UEKJMTWD7U Isabel

I like the lacy material layer more than the beige material. However, the beige part is very well structured!

    • http://twitter.com/Hussified Coleen

I’m for a Werq instead of a WERQ, only because I think she could have gone a deeper bronze with the underlay of that dress. Then it might not have looked so dull.

I don’t know who the woman is behind her in the last shot, but she is my new favorite. I need to know more about her.

      • meowing

Totally agree (even about the lady in the background!)–while a gorgeous 1940s vibe, I thought it was a little too overpraised and predictable.  Would have liked it better just a shade or two darker, perhaps.  But, wow, what a fit!

    • filmcricket

A comedown after the McQueen last year, and once again she is wearing horrific shoes. But it’s a really beautiful and delicate dress – it looked more coppery on TV than it does here – and her face is amazing as usual. I do like that she’s one of the few women who saves the best for Oscar night rather than giving a huge lead-up and then belly-flopping (*coughHathawaycough*).

    • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gabriella M

She looks like an art deco statuette. “Be the Oscar, be the Oscar, be the Oscar….” Oh well.

    • http://www.facebook.com/D.D.D.Dino Dino Bonačić

    • Indigo54

      BEAUTIFUL!  That’s how it’s done!

    • capybara_cafe

I just can’t with all the matchy matchy.

    • Daktari100

Her Tiffany-blue dress was my favorite at the Golden Globes (though many people disagreed with me) and her look at the Oscars was my favorite of the night.  She really knocked it out of the park.  Flawless!

    • Little_Olive

      Except for the shoes!!

    • shelley514

Of course they’d find this one a WERQ.  #SoPredictable.

    • Nancy Dunn

What was with all the comments about seeing her black underwear? I thought it was just how the light was hitting the front of the dress.

    • siriuslover

I can’t help thinking I see her underwear under that thing. But that’s not to say I don’t like it. It is pretty. And I love that bracelet.

    • stubbornthoughts

Gorgeous fit and dress. I just wish it was in a different color, maybe green or plum. Also wish she had a necklace on, that would probably have made this color better for me. But her hair and makeup are flawless.

      • http://twitter.com/cornekopia Shawn EH

If she’d gone emerald rather than diamond, that might have been hot.

    • Monday1900

The color of this dress was so strange–old lingerie on the red carpet but then when she presented it looked like more of a gold color (much prettier).  Still, she looked amazing (hair and makeup perfection).  One of the top 3 if not number 1 of the evening for me.

    • barbarienne

I can’t give it a WERQ, precisely because of the color issue.  But yeah, if you’re going to match your dress to your hair and skin, this is the dress to do it with. It would be spectacular if it was, for instance, a rich emerald green under that crystal netting.

Props to the folks at Armani Privé–the construction on that thing is spectacular.

    • http://twitter.com/cornekopia Shawn EH

That dress is amazing, and the lip color is just the right final touch. Probably her personal best red carpet look, ever.

    • procrastinatrice

The most glamorous look of the evening–that does not mean the best maybe, but definitely something special. I am hypnotized by the beauty of her hair and face. Redhead-WERQ!

    • msdamselfly

      Amazing color match with hair

    • http://profile.yahoo.com/2LIE6ISFQUBIAO7OB6U5TAVXXQ Depot'er

      Jessica Rabbit lives!

    • bertkeeter

Win on FIT! Color a toss up…shade darker? What the heck…she looks amazing!

    • jilly_d

Truly a stunning gown, but would it have been so terribly hard for her to get this in midnight blue?

    • sk8tfan

I loved this on her. It’s one of her best looks ever. There’s enough color in it that she doesn’t look washed out as she usually does, and it fits like a dream. She often goes too tight, with sad side boob as the result, but not here. Hair and makeup are flawless. Most of all, SHE clearly feels like a million bucks in it, and is thrilled with it. Her expression is the best accessory.

    • frannyprof

Her skin is flawless. Gorgeous. One of my favorite looks of the night.

    • http://twitter.com/lenabena_ Elena

I think she looks stunning, but imagine it in a color. Would’ve been best dressed.

    • Zippypie

I can’t give a WERQ to a dress the color of an old ratty bra.  Yes, the fit is spectacular, hair and makeup look amazing, but I’m kind of speechless that this would rank a WERQ which shows the very sad state of the carpet last night.  In a rich shade of any color, this would have been fab.

She also needed better jewels.  These were boring.  And don’t get me started on those silly platform sandals that don’t go with a gown at all.

    • http://twitter.com/delysia_lafosse Delysia LaFosse

Considering that just a few months ago, we were all wondering how such a beautiful woman could look so staggeringly underwhelming every time she stepped onto a red carpet, this is fantastic. But she would have done so much better in a jewel tone, especially in such a sea of pale dresses. She looks gorgeous, I can’t deny it, but I’m just not in love with the dress.

    • hypeman414

I’m sure this was stunning in person, but on the TV it looked really kind of blah.  However, it photographs really well, so I’ll give it a 2/3 WERQ

    • jw_ny

Looking at pictures here, I agree with the werq.  She didn’t even register a blip on the radar last night tho…probably because of the dress color.  It seems more coppery in color here than what I saw, and it’s quite flattering on her.  Her hair and makeup are stunning

    • kimmeister

I always think she would benefit from slightly darker brows.

    • warnerave

the fit is great..altho the color is kinda bland for me…

    • maggiemaybe

I liked it much better on stage than out in the sunlight where it got a little washed out. She looked amazing in it, though.

    • http://twitter.com/Ham_Sammy Dana

That was the dress of the night to me. Absolutely loved her in it.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_RDEDI3ONWSVDQS5GXKKBIML3H4 Chase

I love everything but the color. She’s too coppery overall.  Would have adored this in a blue or green.

    • http://twitter.com/PhDKnitter marlie

Absolutely gorgeous. Perfect. Definitely in my top 5 of the night.

    • MilaXX

I think she did several things right to make this color work. The rhinestones or crystals in the dress added some dimension so the color didn’t fade into her skin or hair, the bold lip & nail made a nice contrast, and the hair & fit of the dress was perfect. This is a Werq for me.

    • http://vhanna26.typepad.com Vera

No doubt one of her best looks, but I wish the dress was–well–a color.

A very beautiful and simple gown that just radiated glamour inspite of the soft neutral shade.
It really picked up her hair and skin and became a little beam of light.

    • E. D.

Don’t like the color, it’s no good with her hair.  Plus from what I can see of the shoes, they look like a total fail.

    • Qitkat

For once, matching one’s hair to one’s dress really werqed. Very elegant.

    • alwaysanswerb

Has she just resolved to dress horribly all year, except at the Oscars?

    • http://www.facebook.com/jacoryd JaCory Deon

She is serving some Veronica Lake 2013 there and it is sickening.  Def top 3 for wearing a dress that wouldn’t work on everyone but looks divine on her.  Beautiful!

    • http://www.facebook.com/henry.maler Henry Maler

Discussion question: Last year’s Oscar look or this one?

I’m personally slightly in favor of last year’s although this is beautiful.

      • Lilak

I asked myself that question, too.  I can’t choose, but not from ambivalence: I think the gowns and styling were absolutely perfect in each instance for the two different moments on her career timeline.

(And I’m sooo glad she’s started a personal tradition of killing it for the Oscars.)

    • DeTrop

Great look for the Oscars.  Armani is always a fav of mine and they did right by JC.

    • Sara__B

WERQ. Even though a saturated color would have been better.

    • BigWhiteGrannyPanties

Love it.  It was my favorite.

      • lizlemonglasses

Mine too. Total WERQ, even the color.

    • mhleta

Oh, hell yes. Rita Hayworth realness x 1000. WERQ, my first ever.

    • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

I like it too, but I would have loved to see some diamonds around her neck.

    • DTLAFamilies

The fit is incredible as are hair and makeup but when I saw it on TV my reaction was meh because of the color. Still, it’s definitely a top look for her.

    • TSkot

      Best she’s ever looked.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=149100065 Virginia McMurdo

Did I read she is wearing extensions? Her hair was breathtaking.

    • Adriana_Paula

I’m really happy about long hair that’s not cocker spaniel hair.  I’d almost forgaotten that was possible.

      • anotherEloise

        Agree 1000x.

    • Melizmatic

    • EEKstl

Stunning.  As I commented last night on your FB post about this, the color here has enough bronze in it to be a wonderful compliment to her coloring without looking blah.  This and Charlize are my faves of the evening, hands-down.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=805505 Steph Foster

This is the best she’s ever looked on the RC!

    • andreawey

Ha! I thought of you guys when she actually pointed out that the dress matches her hair!

    • http://twitter.com/Merneith Merneith

I thought this was the Dress Of The Night. Definitely a personal best.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_YAMNQMUGFM4NNSPAQLZRODSD5I Angela

Absolutely gorgeous! She’s like a Varga girl come to life…

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Stacy-Pershall/1024689145 Stacy Pershall

Favorite, favorite, FAVORITE look of the night!  She looked like a cross between Jessica Rabbit and the Chrysler Building, in all the best possible ways.

All I could see was filet o’ fish, unfortunately.

    • peachy

yick. it no WERQs for me. it’s all too one-colory and reminds me of a newborn aliencreaturething….. not attractive.

    • Puckndc

      Rita Hayworth elegant!!!

    • Trisha26

I really hated, from the first second, that odd folding/wrinkly thing going on at waist & abdomen. I honestly didn’t get the praise for this that was heaped on by every commentator. Just meh.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_F73LIJ3SJGI5AJQMXMWXCKILHI Pamela

I heard her talking to the lame interviewers & she said the underneath part of the dress was more of a copper color so I don’t think it came through in pictures and we couldn’t see it close enough on tv.  Elegance personified-her hair/makeup/jewels made the look flawless.

    • MissAmynae

It really is lovely. Beautifully fitted, and when the light hits it just right, the bronze-orange comes out. I can’t give it a WERQ, though. Now… if the bronze was more obvious, closer to her hair color, then absolutely, yes.

    • neofashionista

yaya she Finally wore a Gorgeous dress that FITs her!!

    • quiltrx

I think the beading elevates this from old bra/hair color territory into something special.  And her hair looks fabulous.  I would have asked for a big ol’ honkin’ necklace like Garner and Hathaway, though.

    • http://twitter.com/jalae Janey

She made me gasp when I saw her present an Oscar. That is a beautiful dress and I love it on her she looks so fabulous in it. Even though the colour was neutral it stood out and made her hair and her makeup look even more fabulous as well

    • Anniebet

Cannot think of a single really negative thing about this look. Not nuts about the sweetheart shape at the bosom, maybe straight across would be nice, but all else is exquisite in detail and styling.

    • kathrineb

Agreed on the dress. I Love the hair and lip-colour, this women is stunning!

    • bd73

flawless and stunning. she could not have looked better.

    • Frank Lithium

She finally looks comfortable and relaxed in an outfit for once. Nicely done!

    • CarolinLA

Didn’t care for this at all, especially when I could see her underwear underneath the dress in the lights.  And it’s still too fucking tight.

    • kcomfort

I think it’s interesting that so many are knocking the color of this dress. I think if it were in a brighter color, the dress would have been more noticeable than the wearer.
I find the color to perfectly compliment both her skin tone and hair color. The jewelry was stunning too. She has my vote for best dressed of the night.

    • libraangel

A definite WERQ – FINALLY! And also finally a color she can wear.

    • http://profile.yahoo.com/47S737MGWCAZEZ73QOAFKDFEKQ Jill

      She looks stunning!
