Nicole Miller Fall 2013 Collection

Posted on February 10, 2013

The hook for Nicole Miller’s fall 2013 collection was “Raiding Your Boyfriend’s Closet.” Miller is one of those designers who knows very well the woman to whom she’s pitching and her collections tend to be so cohesive that the pieces all look like they came from the wardrobe of one stylish girl. This collection’s girl clearly dates a rock star, because if this is what she’s getting out of his closet, you can bet he’s not heading off to Wall Street each morning. The looks are hard mixed with soft, confident, dark, and bold. We especially like the jackets/outerwear, and the body-hugging dress with the impressionistic cityscape printed on it.

I like quite  a bit of this. The only clunkers for me are those plaid tops 2nd row middle & 2 and 3 in the third row. I could also live without the mullet dress. Love that  slinky black dress at the end.

I pretty much love everything here, which is rare for me.

“I know you can be overwhelmed, and you can be underwhelmed…but can you ever be just whelmed?” “I think you can in Europe?” (Not a comment on the collection, I just love that movie beyond all reason.)

      •  That’s from 10 Thing I Hate About You, not Clueless. As someone who matured during the ’90s, I’ve just about memorized those movies. 🙂

WHOOPS. Eternal shame. Normally I’m much more on point re: those two movies. I blame sleep deprivation, but as someone who deeply loves both movies (having gone some way toward maturity–not sure what we’re defining as “matured”–in the late 90s/early 2000s) I still accept demerits.

  • Rainbow Dash model!

“What’d I tell ya! Ten. Seconds. Flat.”

I would wear almost any piece from this collection.  The borderline androgyny, the textures that my eyes just want to eat up. It’s funny: a friend and I were talking just the other day about how delicate florals teamed with curbstomper boots always felt so definitively ‘big city summer’ to us, and – well, here it is, refined to absolute perfection.

I love this, and I love the styling. It makes me think about incorporating the pieces without saying “WTF hair?” “WTF eyebrows?”  “WTF shoes?”

  • butterflysunita

I really love that first look.  Beautiful model, too.

  • Zippypie

I really love this collection – it’s urban, the shapes are flattering and can be combined in many ways.  My only gripe is the palette.  Pretty depressing.  More pops of color here and there – and not even bright color, subdued color even – would have gone a long way.  But I’d fill my closet with many of these pieces.

I’m having a had time reading the clothes against the dark backdrop which is a shame because I wish I could see the collection better.

I think I would like most of it if it wasn’t all blue. I am not a fan of the color blue and I’ve never met anyone else who doesn’t care for blue so I am all alone in my world.

    • Leslie Kim

i love blue, but i also love this statement, and this collection does use a lot of downer blues XP

    • Hate blue

Thank you Jill, it’s no wonder I named my first born after you!

  • I love everything but the mullet dress–and only because I don’t like that print being deployed head to toe without contrast; I think it works marvelously with the coat and skirts. If the PR judges were to ask “who is this girl and where is she going,” I suspect Nicole would have an answer for every single look.

  • Vanja

I like the shapes, but the prints… not so much. I’d buy that first suit in a heartbeat.

  • a lot of very wearable pieces here.

  • I LOVE the rainbow hair. It’s hard not to color hair without going into trashy territory but these girls look beautiful.

I have loved Nicole Miller since I was sixteen. At the time I was very muscular in my lower body, and she was one of the very few making dresses that actually flattered me. (I still recall vividly the first time (that I remember) my mom called me beautiful, and it was in a dress of hers.) (I am aware that I was SUPREMELY fortunate to have a Nicole Miller dress at that age, believe me.)

I like a lot about this collection–I love me some hard edges, intricate prints, and leather accents–although I might want a little more color. Also, that model with the firebird hair? Fabulous, but I wish the color spectrum was reversed (deeper color by the face, paler at the bottom).

  • Lisa M. (ReVoir) Kramp

Urban hip to infinity! I could see these looks all over Metro Detroit!

  • barbarienne

Definitely like this collection. I’m not a dress girl, but some of those separates could live happily in my wardrobe.

  • Nice.

  • Unkempt

Nice.  Looks like Dries van Noten’s grunge collection, but with more darts.

  • mhleta

I wish she’d used a brighter background. The black outfits are getting lost. If I were a young woman of means living in NYC, Paris or London I’d want my entire closet to look like this.

  • Super love!!!

  • I guess ‘Happy’ is out this season

  • StellaZafella

One side of me said: “Where’s the color?”
The other side of me said: “That’s the point, so shut up and keep drooling”

I like a helluva lot more of this than I can afford…and I can raid my own damn closet.

  • jack mackenna

i love the pattern on the blue/yellow/green dress especially.

  • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

Liking all of it, very much.

  • Imasewsure

Since “blue is not black” is my definition of color and variety, I’m loving this collection.
