Nicole Kidman in L’Wren Scott

Posted on February 18, 2013

Miss Nicole is getting serious with the Princess Grace drag.

Nicole Kidman attends ‘Stoker’ screening in London in a L’Wren Scott dress and pumps accessorized with Stroili Oro earrings.

L’Wren Scott Fall 2013 Collection

Not that we think this look references Grace’s actual style; just that there’s a maturity and high level of polish that evokes it. A sort of “What would Grace wear if she had been born 40 years later?” kind of thing. Elegant, regal and yet still modern, which is an odd thing to say about a classic mid-Century dress paired with Cleopatra’s collar, but there you go. We even think the matchy gold shoes were the right way to go. This look needed to be unified and cohesive; striking both in its boldness and its simpleness. We dig. More of this. We feared her Princess Grace image tour was going to be too literal – and it may yet be – but we’ll take more of this kind of gorgeous from her.

Love the hair.

Really like the dress, especially the Cleopatra collar. What on earth is going on with her hair, though? That is one strange ‘do.

      • alyce1213

Strange ‘do, like “I fell asleep on the couch and someone just woke me.”  I like her hair softened — she wears it too severely much of the time — but this is a hair bump mess.  Otherwise, gorgeous.

        • http://robot-heart.tumblr.com heartbot

Also, she needs conditioner. Her hair looks crispy.

    • http://twitter.com/stellaphone Stella Zawistowski

      BAM. She nailed it. Perfection.

    • mhleta

100% yes! She looks beautiful with soft hair like this. She should never ever be allowed to go severe unless its for a role. The color is perfect for her.

      • Jennifer Coleman

I still wish she’d go back to being a redhead. Or at least strawberry blonde.

        • WhiteOprah

ITA.  The blonde just washes her out.

    • http://profile.yahoo.com/T7MCCHLEC6H5HHUXTDVKBD2IAY Liza E

I think she looks gorgeous in this dress.  The hair is a little whackadoodle.

    • pulpytomato

L’Wren Scott suits her so well.

    • Robin Krug

Best overall look for her in years. The dress is perfection.

    • http://twitter.com/SuzBald Susan Baldwin

I want to call this a WERQ.  I love the color and styling, and she’s owning it.

    • jw_ny

I agree…she looks lovely and sophisticated.  Really great color.

    • gabbilevy

Hate the hair, but she looks spectacular in that dress.

    • unpious

The dress is gorgeous, and I am in serious love with that collar. Her hair, however, looks like my hair when I wake up in the morning if I slept with it in a bun.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_F73LIJ3SJGI5AJQMXMWXCKILHI Pamela

Nope-all I see is a glittery gold dickie and a bird’s nest of hair.

      • http://twitter.com/Hollybeez Holly Cole

With you 100%, this outfit is not cute.  It looks like she’s got some sort of golden skin disease creeping up her neck.

      • kimmeister

My immediate reaction was “it would be so great without the gold dickey”!

        • ballerinawithagun

I know, a gold dickey??? I love the idea of a gold Egyptian style necklace but this looks so weird.

    • FridaStaire

Collar is hideous! Looks like she put the blue dress on over her gold cat suit when her mum told her it was too revealing. Dress would be fab without it.

    • MilaXX

Love the whole look. Even the makeup is working for me.

    • Griffinqueen

      Cleopatra collar? No— Cleopatra dickey.

    • SugarSnap108

Her hair is a bloody mess, but the dress is striking.  And it’s a fantastic color for her.

    • Sobaika

LOVE this. It’s so different and striking and she pulls it off marvelously.

    • deathandthestrawberry

She looks pretty radiant in these pics. The dress is sort of awkward, but she is selling it, dammit.

    • http://www.facebook.com/RocketStarling Ashley Ellen Wilson

Yes, this is a beautiful look!

    • http://twitter.com/lisledanielle Danielle Lisle

      Digging that collar.

    • E. D.

I don’t know what it is about that color, but the fabric looks like a 70s jumpsuit.  I would have loved this in black or even red.

    • Belle239

Love the color on her.  Hate those pointy shoes with a passion.  Wonder why she wears watches so often?

      • eowyn_of_rohan

Trust me when I say I hate myself for knowing this off the top of my head, but she has an endorsement contract with Omega watches.  She’s in their print ads.

        • alyce1213

Don’t hate yourself.  It’s an interesting little factoid.  Thanks.

        • Belle239

          Ah.  Thanks for the info!

        • Rand Ortega

BK’s & PUF’s are so knowledgeable! Part of what makes us so awesome!

    • http://twitter.com/irmaladuce_l8ly IrmaLaDuce

Don’t think I can get on board with a solid gold dickie.

      • NYCGlamourpuss

Yeah, it’s like the dress part is too plain, and then there’s this blinged out golden dickie.  It’s just a weird dress, but Nicole herself looks great.

    • Pants_are_a_must

That dress is so weird, and yet it works. It works for her as well. Love the accessories.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1677420035 Nicole Seligman

i love this look and think she worked it way better than the model. that color is stunning on her and i forgot how much i like her hair up.

    • Janet B

      Beautiful.

    • YourBaloneyDontGotNoSecondName

love love LOVE this.  that blue looks spectacular on her.  also, she looks about 11 feet tall.

    • PeaceBang

She looks so pretty with her hair a little scrambled like that. I hate the weird fabric of the dress but there’s no doubt that I did a little moderated gay gasp when I saw her in this. I love her make-up and the hoop earrings were inspired. They give the dress a little bit of Boho flavor.

    • Jecca2244

She always looks great in L’Wren. Maybe because both women have the same body type…

      • makeityourself

L’Wren was her stylist for years before she began designing.

    • In_Stitches

She’s often criticized for appearing too severe; the hair does a great job mitigating that.  Unfortunately, all that work is shot to hell by the collar which tightens her right back up.  It’s a great look, just not for her.

    • http://twitter.com/#!/Space_Kitty Space Kitty

She looks great here, but I really, really don’t see her as Princess Grace.  I’m sure this has already been discussed to death, but was January Jones busy? I’m just not seeing it.

    • Annabelle Archer

Just lovely. I don’t care for the shoulder/neck area construction, but as a Monet, I love it.

    • Isana Leshchinskaya

there’s something reminiscent of klimt here and i love it. not so much with the matchy-matchy shoes, though.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=6704204 Brittany Knupper

You say Cleopatra collar, I say gold sequined dickie.

    • Coco Cornejo

I have never understood why people think Nicole Kidman is such a style icon. Is it some kind of consolation prize for having a limited acting range and crap marriages?

She always looks washed out to me. Even her hair color is pale. If you stood her in front of a peach-colored sheet she’d simply disappear except for her Angry Birds eye makeup.

    • Lisa M. (ReVoir) Kramp

      Perfect.

    • Stubenville

Cerulean, one of my favorite shades of blue.  She looks stunning.

    • alyce1213

I love the dress on her:  shape, color, fit, length.

However, her hair bump (ref: Mary Tyler Moore Show) is completely bonkers.

    • http://bunnymcfoo.livejournal.com/ Bunny

See, to me that’s not a Cleopatra collar, it’s a Klimt collar.  In fact, something about the coloring of this outfit is really reminding me of his work and I’m loving it.  Well played!

    • claudemtl777

finally…. i was missing edgy nicole…We were getting too much of the “wife-of-a-country-singer” vibe…

    • Tatiana Luján

I like the dress, but I wish the shoes were more brassy than golden and that her hair was styled differently.

    • Targettaste

It looks nice on her, but I’d be clawing at that collar within seconds to get it off my neck.  I’m stressing just thinking about it!!!

    • butterflysunita

She looks beautiful.  The best she’s looked in a while.

    • tonibaloney

I LOVE the second-to-last picture! She looks happy, instead of severe. I love the watch, the hair’s a little kooky, but okay, and that color looks amazing on her.

    • IamstillAnonymous

My first thought was of the Giraffe Women with the neck rings.  She looks so out of proportion to me.

    • siriuslover

I love her poise. She looks beautiful in this color. Even that potentially gawdy collar is working it here.

    • Susie K

I love the collar against the plainness of all that blue — it reminds me a bit of the Klimt paintings with all the gold inlays.

    • Imasewsure

This is a personal best (in recent memory anyway) for Nic… nothing boring but totally elegant and she looks vibrant for once not washed out. Love it

    • decormaven

Took a second look for me, but I do agree, it’s a fab look for her. The hair, although a bit messier than I like, is a much softer treatment and much better for her. The color of the dress is perfection.

    • GorgeousThings

She was born to wear L’Wren Scott

      • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1266410766 Phyllis Craine

I’m not loving the hoop earrings.  Her ears turn out too much, hoops really look best when they lie flat against your neck (as on the model btw) .  But few people have ears like that.

    • http://twitter.com/amndad amanda lynn

you love a hairstyle that i can do!!  sweet!!

    • nannypoo

Well, she’s got that stringy hair up and off her shoulders but now it’s just a mess on top  of her head. And she always deploys that looking-out-from-under-the-eybrows-like-Cora-Crawley thing which I do not like, so in spite of this great dress I still don’t want to look at her.

    • mmc2315

Pretty.  I only wish she didn’t look so….preserved.

    • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gabriella M

Yes, this is brilliant. Lovely lovely. My only minor nitpick is that I think the lipstick needed to be a little deeper because next to the high impact dress her face looks a little washed out, but I think she looks just beautiful.

    • pookiesmom

I want to like this, but I just find it weird. it’s like she forgot to take off her ice dancing costume before she put on her modest office dress.

    • Carla_Charlton

And I am SO glad that the platform pumps seem to be going out of style (not that I remember seeing Nicole Kidman ever wearing them).

    • http://twitter.com/PhDKnitter marlie

Really striking dress, and she’s just the woman to pull it off.

    • http://twitter.com/OracleKath OracleKath

She looks tremendous, much better than some of the previous red carpet outings.

    • Susan Crawford

All Botox comments aside, Nicole is one gorgeous woman with a body made for couture. This design is as perfect as I’ve seen her in a long time: the color is perfect for her, the fit is perfection, and that gold neckline is superb. I still don’t see her as HSH Princess Grace, though. If I were casting this biopic, I would look toward Diane Kruger. On the other hand, it will be a treat to see some of the iconic Kelly film costumes come to life: those tailored suits; the black and white gown from “Rear Window”; the incredible gold lame dress from “To Catch a Thief”; her bathing costume from the same picture, with the enormous, sexy sunhat that dropped jaws as she sashayed across the hotel lobby. Sigh. And of course, the wedding gown di tutti wedding gowns. Meantime, Nicole and L’Wren are a perfect match stylewise.

    • greyhoundgirl

I also see the dickey.  My first thought was–”They’re making really upscale dickeys these days!”  Can’t unsee it.

    • http://www.ellenciompi.com/ NurseEllen

Stunning color, perfect fit.  Granted, the collar is unexpected and odd, but it works.  PERFECT hair.  I’d have given Miss Nicole a WERQ, and taken it away from Beyonce, who looked beautiful but unexceptional.  This look has it all.

    • http://profile.yahoo.com/37TPKASIMXVUPYK5BNQFOL43KU Carina

I actually love everything BUT the hair. It distracts from the collar and should have been more simple. I also think she should have not worn earrings.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Clydette-Wantland/673315286 Clydette Wantland

      She looks great.

    • B_C_J

Absolute perfection from head to toe. GORGEOUS!

    • formerlyAnon

I would like the hair if it didn’t look as if there were a bird’s nest, or something going wrong at the crown.  Overall, it’s a little executive secretary for me to love it, but she certainly looks as lovely as ever.

    • tallgirl1204

I’m sure the fabric benefits from a littlet stretch to it, but isn’t that the most beautiful and perfectly fitted seaming?  And the color…   gorgeous.

    • ojosazules

I much preferred the dresses on the runway with the more diminutive gold collars. This dress/collar combination looks odd to me. That said, Nicole looks better than she has in a while.

    • ChaquitaPhilly

Love the look including the hair!

    • Alyssa

Love this look for her…Princess Grace maturity suits her well. I hope she keeps it up!!! Very pretty.

    • BigWhiteGrannyPanties

Love the dress. Want the hair to be SLEEK and up, not SLUTTY LIKE I’VE BE SLEEPING WITH MY BOYFRIEND IN THE LIMO and up.

    • stubbornthoughts

That is her color blue! I’d give this a WERQ, she looks fantastic.

    • http://twitter.com/cornekopia Shawn EH

Lady, that is totally your dress!

    • Kristy Evans

I love the hair too. I miss when she had her messy red curls, it was such a great juxtaposition to her otherwise reserved presentation of herself.

    • twocee

      Best she’s looked in ages.

    • Trisha26

Absolutely gorgeous – she hasn’t looked this sophisticated or put together for ages.

    • Zippypie

This is the best she’s looked in years, including her red carpet looks.  Note Nicole: soft hair does wonders for your face!  I’m not a fan of the Cleo collar and matchy shoes, but the color and cut of the dress are fabulous, elegant and suit her body.

    • kirkyo

Adorableness and Nicole Kidman aren’t usually two things I would associate with each other, but that’s exactly what is going on in the one-crossed-arm pic.

    • kschwarting

I hate to be contrary, but I’m longing for the dress without the collar, which looks confining and itchy to my eyes.

The blue is lovely, though, and the dress looks beautifully fitted.

    • chitowndg

I am guessing that she is about the same height as the model, so why is the dress so long?  I like the knee length on the model.

    • BrightsideSusan

I love that a maturing actress is dressing this way.  Sexy but approriate. Take note JLo and Hallie.

    • OrigamiRose

Love the hair style, but am I the only one who wishes Nicole would be a fiery red again?  Am I biased in favor of fiery reds?  I must be, I think I wished the same for Emma Stone yesterday.

(But seriously, fiery red is hot.)

    • EEKstl

Yep, she’s pretty much knocking it out of the park with this one.  Shoes are perfect.

    • libraangel

Nice color on her, but what gold thing died on her neck?

    • peachy

she looks fantastic. as of late, it’s been a bit questionable, but this looks proves she is BACK, bay-bee!

    • bd73

i love it, but that big wide stitch at the collar… it keeps me unsettled.

    • mike__tv

Am I the only one who misses the proper red hair? It gave her sex appeal non? Anyway, what does it matter? Soon she’ll fully transform into stone.

    • teensmom99

      I’d go for WERQ.

    • http://www.facebook.com/renate.yerkes Renate Yerkes

You cant be serious about the hair. it looks like old batting that rats have redistributed for nesting purposes. do i see some bald patches?
