Morena Baccarin in Paule Ka

Posted on February 06, 2013

We picked these pictures because Miss Lady tends to dress in too-complicated ways and we felt she needed some positive reinforcement for going the simple route this time.

Morena Baccarin attends The Hollywood Reporter Nominees’ Night 2013 Celebrating The 85th Annual Academy Award Nominees in Beverly Hills, California in Paule Ka.

But once again, we’re not feeling it. It’s a cute dress, but doesn’t look about half a size too large on her? At the very least, we’re thinking it needed a contrasting belt. The shoes are nice, but they don’t really do anything for the look. And since her hair’s looking a bit ragged, just about the only thing we like here is the major sparkle going on in the wrist area. She strikes us as someone who just doesn’t quite get the whole style thing. Which is fine, but it’s time to start listening to smart pros who’ll tell you what to do, hon.

Oooooo she’s got some Lady Sybil hair going on there.

    …*sniffle*…. I want Sybil back.

    • Judy_S

Interesting comment. She looks like of flapperish. Isn’t she very long-waisted, so that the dress fits that look even though it doesn’t have a dropped waist? I really like the proportions on her, the dress and hair.

    • dress_up_doll

I love a bob! I miss Lady Sybil, too! I wish they’d do something super-cheesy like have Jessica Brown Findlay return as a distant cousin of the Crawley family.

  • charlotte

I agree with you guys, but she’s definitely looked worse. Which is an odd thing to say because she is so beautiful.

  • http://twitter.com/emilyf007 emily

I don’t understand why lady stars can’t seem to wear shoes that fit them.

    • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

Cuz they get sent sample size shoes, which are usually 8s.  And many of the lady stars are teensy wee things.

      • Meg0GayGuys6

Oh man, me and my size 12s would be in bad shape! If only 8s were too big…

        • Karen Maslowski

And my size 6 feet would swim in those suckers!

      • http://twitter.com/emilyf007 emily

I mean I understand why they don’t fit, I just don’t understand why they don’t have closets full of appropriate shoes like the rest of us shoe-obsessed people.

        • Kimbolina

I’m sure they have closets full of their own shoes, but they’re probably contractually obligated to wear whatever designers throw at them.

          • http://twitter.com/emilyf007 emily

             I hear that.

          • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_2CNDPMVO4W23R5TVC2QMTJ5BZE Heather

Wow. What contract? (I’m asking honestly.) Like their contract with the studio? Or with a stylist? I’m curious how all this works.

          • Kimbolina

I have no idea really, this is just a guess, but probably the stylists make deals or something with the designers and brands.  Sort of like, “you give me free clothes and I’ll make sure so-and-so wears it on the red carpet and your name is publicized”.

      • Call me Bee

Or could it be that the shoes are the correct size, but a bit too wide so the feet slide forward (and down)?   That happes to me when wearing heels that are an M and not an N (beacause the selection of 12N shoes out there is pretty dismal…)

    • http://aldonsusi.blogspot.com/ Susi R

I know right, they have the money to buy their own shoes if the sample does not fit … : /

      • luciaphile

THIS. Do they never buy their own clothes and shoes?

    • JillSpill

What I don’t know is how they can walk in them.  Do they glue the shoes to their feet??

      • formerlyAnon

No doubt this is indicative of why no-one ever has said “oh, wear my clothes to show them off for my business,” but *if* ever it happened, they’d whisk that offer right back after they saw what a mess I looked, trying not to trip in 5″ heels a size or more too big.

        • PeaceBang

I always wonder why they don’t just carry a supply of gel insoles with them at all times, which would really help. If I was a celeb I’d have a personal assistant just to carry my gel insoles. Cripes.

  • Sobaika

That’s sort of a Betty Draper dress, and I don’t think it’s right for Morena Baccarin at all. I will begrudgingly admit that she doesn’t look as bad as some of her previous missteps.

    Snazzy shoes though!

  • decormaven

Sooo close, and it’s a miss. Dress not properly fitted, shoes not properly fitted. But the bracelets….swoon. At least the stylist scored some beautiful brilliants.

  • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

What’s killing this for me is that the waist is set too high for her.  If it hit at her natural waist, which appears to be a good inch and a half lower, the proportions would work better.

    • Karen Maslowski

That’s it! I was wondering why it looked toddler party dress.

You know your fit issues, Kiltd!

  • Imasewsure

She looks a lot better than usual. Dress one size down would have been really cute although I’ll agree on the hair and styling issues. Not bad, but missing it’s potential (as usual with her)

  • Pants_are_a_must

No, honey. The Stepford thing is not for you. And the shoes don’t match. Please find a stylist.

  • carolynmo

I think it’s refreshing to see someone wearing a dress that isn’t too tight! Certainly, the hair could look better, but I like this, overall.

    • MilaXX

But too big is just as bad.

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/AOBSJV6HLYYU7YOR34YW5KOMSE Jane

I also like seeing a dress that isn’t skin tight.  I don’t have any idea who this person is, but she looks like Ashley Judd.

    • AR16

She’s currently in Homeland and used to be on Firefly and V.

I never noticed how much she looks like Snow White!

  • Annabelle Archer

I need that bracelet in my life!

    • 3boysful

       Fight you for them!

  • formerlyAnon

Man, you guys are strict today.

Yes, the dress is good but not great [on her - I love it for itself] and her hair is the questionable execution of a good idea. But I love the shoes and think the total package is pretty darn good. I’d go for great if the hair were impeccable.

  • http://twitter.com/stellaphone Stella Zawistowski

I think the skirt needs a little zhuzhing. I could sign off on this look if it were a little fluffier and the bodice were a little better fitted through the bust.

  • MilaXX

Yeah, everythIng is just a little off, and the hair is a bit mumsy.

  • kschwarting

    She’s so beautiful.

This could be saved by tailoring the bust and zhuzhing the hair a bit.

  • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

Cute look.  Channeling her inner Jackie Kennedy.  Which is not a bad thing, in my book.

  • gabbilevy

She confuses me. Such a gorgeous woman, who so regularly looks so… raggedy on the RC. A call for a style intervention if I ever saw one.

    • Meg0GayGuys6

I agree. I know style and beauty are two different things, but it always throws me when someone who is so beautiful, can look so … raggedy, to steal your term, on the red carpet.

      • Jecca2244

Because, at this point, fashion houses must be elated to give her clothing, right? She plays an incredible role on a hit show.

  • l_c_ann

The bodice would fit much better if the designer had made a different choice in darts.  That (difficult to sew) curved single side dart is the source of the not fitting.  If it had a single side dart ending at the tip of the bust and a second vertical dart going from the tip of the bust downwards, the dress could be altered easier by taking in the side and/or tightening up the  two vertical darts to reduce the excess fabric.

She surely has a pretty face, though, doesn’t she?

  • Joyce VG

I agree completely. I look forward to the day when my jaw drops at how perfectly styled she is.

  • sk8tfan

She’s another one who suffers from Jessica Biel Syndrome-beautiful women who have no clue how to dress or do their hair to showcase their beauty, and undermine it instead. Christina Hendricks, I’m thinking of you in that club.

  • http://heartprintandstyle.com/ Vivi N

Morena is such a GORGEOUS woman but yet her style is always off. Is she trying to dumb down or maybe downplay her looks? It’s weird.

  • leftcoastpickle

What is wrong with her hair-styling team? A fifties up-do would look good, the dress is too big, and the shoes are wasted here. I want to love this woman, she’s so beautiful, but she needs a new stylist who will make me love her!

  • capybara_cafe

I can’t get past the hair to even look at the dress. She’s so pretty, why with that hair cut??

  • kimmeister

The makeup seems a little heavy handed for being paired with this dress.

  • E. D.

That dress seems a little too informal for the shoes and bag.

  • ringthing

I think she is drop dead gorgeous. Would love to see her play up the unusual side of her beauty – she can have a real quirky/edginess to her that could be much better served than trying to go retro.

  • samo_samo

Very “Mad Men”-esque. I’m really getting a Trudy Campbell vibe from her.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_AYQCICXEN2CCDBFV5HED4Z2RUA Dee B

Face wise, Morena = Halle Berry.  Both look their best with little hair.  She’s giving me abnormally pretty soccer mom with this hair.

    • PaulaBerman

Oh, I thought as Inara, with the long, lush, flowing locks, she looked over the moon gorgeous. I think she looks like Diana from V with the short hair. Bring back Inara hair, Morena!

  • Cathy S

I like the dress. I’m not sure it needs a belt, but I do think it’s just a bit too big.

  • http://twitter.com/#!/Space_Kitty Space Kitty

As gorgeous as she is, with a stylist she would be unstoppable.  Time to up your game, lady!

  • teensmom99

The dress hits her in the wrong places.

  • Kimbolina

I’m kind of loving the bracelets.  That is quite an extreme close-up shot of them, though.  Can’t imagine how huge that telephoto lens must have been…

  • 3boysful

It pains me how much those shoes do not go with that dress.

  • http://twitter.com/yessveee Sarah V.

    Ladylike is not her Look.

  • tallgirl1204

I was thinking she was looking very mad men.

  • jw_ny

Her hair is the only thing that’s bugging me; I quite like the rest of the look.  She looks pretty and much better than her more recent looks.  I think the fit is close…rather see a dress a half size too large than one that is skin tight and popping at the seams.

  • http://twitter.com/PhDKnitter marlie

I think this is a smashing success over the last couple of things that she’s worn, though I agree that it’s a tad too big (but so much more welcome than being a tad too small!!). I like the shoes and clutch, but I’d cut a bitch for that bling on her wrist.

  • Louise Bryan

I really like the shoes, but a belt, probably also black, and no miscellaneous/mismatching bling, would have been in order.  The hair needs help.

  • shelley514

See now, a white dress works on her because she has a beautiful skin tone.

  • Zippypie

Way too big in the bodice and waist. Why would she wear this?  I just don’t get it.  Even the shoes are too bloody big.

  • http://twitter.com/Eovaai Eovaai

The bracelets are the highlight of this look. AMAZING.

  • nannypoo

I love the bracelets. The dress and shoes are both too big and she needs a belt. What always puzzles me about these posts is that those of us who actually have to shop and pay for our clothes and then accessorize them ourselves once they are on our imperfect bodies can usually tog ourselves out better than this. Why can’t she manage it?

  • Qitkat

Ms. Baccarin is a striking beauty who could probably carry off almost any hairstyle she chooses, although it appears she could use a touch-up trim here. The dress is flattering and cute in a grownup way, and fits well enough through the upper bodice, but could have used a bit of cinching in at the waist and a contrasting belt, of almost any color. I like the skirt with it’s implied columnar lines. I wish it had been pleated all the way round; you don’t see much of that anymore. If the shoes had fit, I would have no quibble there. It appears there are one or two bracelets too many; I would love to see just the large circle one with the simplest narrow one. Those coppery settings are all quite beautiful though.

  • Call me Bee

Man I love this from head to toe.  It has a bit of a Laura Petrie vibe in a modern way.  So happy to see her wear lady-like shoes instead of a platform hoof.

  • Marian Humin

She reminds me of Ashley Judd.

  • bd73

hm. i’ll see your belt and raise you a crisp headband to corral those curls. fully commit to the tea-time look. i kinda want tim gunn and veronica webb to reunite and go through morena’s closet. just get to the bottom of this already.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1266410766 Phyllis Craine

Her nose job always looks fake to me

  • neofashionista

    LOVE her Bling

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/QK3MTAHUVJCMI7DANY6WFCAIUM n a

She doesn’t seem to understand proportion… Like her body’s proportions. It’s weird too bc she is dead gorgeous and has a slammin’ figure. She looks great in Homeland…

  • oldbobbydraper

i thought this was ashley judd for the first four pictures…..

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/2LIE6ISFQUBIAO7OB6U5TAVXXQ Depot'er

damn T’lo, way to kill a like! I LOVED this when I first saw it, then read you comments and was…damn, they are right, yep, too big, wow- didn’t notice how crappy the hair is…love the shoes, oh wait- dang they are right about that too…

so, I LOVE the T’lo version of this outfit SO much better! thanks guys

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1208138556 Sara Munoz Munoz

Nothing here is working for me. Nothing. And taken together…. big ol’ pile of blah. Plus too much makeup.

  • Anniebet

This woman confuses the heck out of me. She was so incredibly beautiful in Firefly, and ever since has been an enigma. Her cropped haircut some years ago was dreadful, this mid length hair is dreadful – and messy in a bad way. Her clothes choices for the red carpet and events have been often been bizarre and unflattering. Now she picks a nice simple dress with uncluttered lines that should work. It doesn’t, partly because of posture, but mostly because of the things T-Lo said. She has beautiful skin, though.

  • TRSTL

The first thought that popped into my head was “Oh! She forgot her belt!!  And comb…..”

  • Mary229

I think she looks really pretty but the dress does look too big. Cinching that in at the waist would have done wonders.

  • Aurumgirl

It’s like they packed an outfit for somebody, and then Morena Baccarin showed up to wear it.

  • PeaceBang

Aw, dang. The dress is floppy, the hair is floppy, the shoes are floppy (although could be fierce), the make-up is clownish and the ONE thing she had working for her– the bling — is undone by the grimace-inducing puce nail polish.

  • libraangel

Nah, T&L. Morena can do NOTHING EVER wrong in my book (She is stunning)

  • http://twitter.com/kerryev kerryev

    Love the bracelet close-up.

  • willworktomorrow

    Love those shoes.  LOVE.

  • ccm800

I so miss the cropped look. It SO favors her. Something about hair and her face just do not mix.

  • http://profiles.google.com/sauchih Sau-Chih Feng

Employing a stylist is a savvy move because sometimes we dress the way we wish we could dress/want to dress, but can’t see the way that flatters us the best. I think Morena falls into this trap a lot, and Ginnifer is another. A stylist helps us take a step back and say “but does it really suit me, or the person I’ve made up in my head and convinced myself is me?”

  • PaulaBerman

She needs to fire her gays. After she kicks their asses. How can someone so beautiful look so bad all the time?
