Madeleine Stowe in Bottega Veneta

Posted on February 20, 2013

Victoria Grayson is SERVING:

Madeleine Stowe attends the 2013 Costume Designers Guild Awards in a Bottega Veneta gown.

Bottega Veneta Fall 2012 Collection/Model: Karmen Pedaru

We think there’s a bit too much going on with this dress and it skirts right up to the “supervillain costume” line, but that’s as it should be with the woman who gives us Victoria Grayson realness every week. And besides, there’s simply no denying that she’s making a hell of an impact in that thing, which is “fashion blogger” for “Wow, her tits look great!”

No honey, no.  Love you to pieces but this is not your dress.

  • Gotta say, its the perfect thing for the Costumers Guild Awards, but otherwise, its a bridge too far, imho. I’m not crazy about how its oddly pulling her waist in on the sides, since the fit is off a bit for her.

    • gabbilevy

It was almost as wonky in the sides when Marion Cotillard wore it in her WSJ Mag editorial, and they had time for photoshop… might just be the dress.

      • Looks like its a bit too long in the torso.  But since its a sample size, fitted to a skyscraper tall runway model, that isn’t surprising.

        • lizajane1776

You can see it on the runway model, too. I think it was a poorly chosen “feature”.

        • poggi

That makes sense.  It seems to set off the model’s waist and hips better than Madeleine’s, but I couldn’t figure out why.

    • librarygrrl64

Agreed. I don’t think the gown is doing good things to her torso.

  • PeaceBang

Oh Lord, no. Yikes. Too much boob for such tiny straps, and the Wholesome Girl hair and make-up are ever so wrong. Out of love for Miss Stowe, I avert my eyes.

    • Michaela Tuckova

it’s them straps that are a bridge too far for me. “Adjustable bra straps” takes it from lingerie-inspired to “literally, lingerie” for me.

  • Nooo 🙁 The bodice doesn’t fit her at all and the cups are clearly severous sizes too small. This is just an “ouch” for me, someone should have done a better job at fitting the dress…

    •  Problem with fitting that bodice correctly, is that due to its construction, it would have been a Major Project. Not gonna happen with a borrowed frock, most likely.

      • GorgeousThings

      • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

You know, with these actresses, considering all the money they have, why not just buy the friggin’ dress in your size and have the proper alterations done?  I get it, borrowed frocks are a perk; but is the negative press the next day worth it?

        •  The real problem comes from the expectation now, that they won’t appear publicly in the same thing twice.  So, even for them, a new $15,000 dress every few days is out of the question.

          • Agreed, I hope they had it dry-cleaned between Britney Spears and Madeline though, poor Brit always looks like she’s sweating bullets on the red carpet 😉

      • alyce1213

The solution, obviously, is to wear something else.  Look in the mirror, admit it doesn’t fit, and move on to the next borrowable dress.
Of course, that would require a working relationship with reality.

        •  Which of course, most of these people no longer have much of.

  • Meg0GayGuys6

I am not a fan of this at all.  Looks kind of desperate and tacky to me.

    • lovelyivy

Yup. She is far too beautiful to be wearing something like this. No matter how gorgeous and toned she is (and seriously, her boobs in this are fantastic) it automatically puts her in the mutton dressed as lamb category by being ill-fitting and poorly styled. I could maybe see it working with more elaborate makeup and hair and some jewelry to make it a high-impact look. Possibly also needed Blanchett or Swinton- someone with the ability to wear any dress, ever, at any time.

      • Meg0GayGuys6

Fo realz… It’s the same frustration when Halle Berry went through that spell.  Way too pretty to be putting it on display like this.

      • sojourneryouth

I agree.  I’m in my late 30’s, so the prospect of being an “older woman” is starting to get real for me.  Really, really real!  It’s hard for me to see female celebrities trying to out-sexxxy twentysomethings.  There is a very powerful sexuality that comes from knowing yourself damn well, and owning who and what you are, that isn’t being shown often enough.  I love Madeline Stowe, and she is freakin’ gorgeous, so it hurts me to see her with the wonk-face of surgery and fillers (I’m sorry–she looks weirdly, artificially pretty to me now, when she was just breathtaking before her alterations), wearing Elvira’s dress from her exploratory college years.  I’m not against a little something nipped, tucked, or filled, as long as you still look like yourself.

        • Judi Townsend

  • butterflysunita

Wow, she is gorgeous.  Born in 1958, and putting many younger starlets to shame.  Such a classic beauty.

    • lexilexi

I will never forget her in Last of the Mohicans with DDL.  That kissing scene – one of the best ever.

      • SugarSnap108

Ugh, I agree.  So very much.

    • Jennifer Coleman

I like it. It’s Malificent-chic. Perfect for the event.

  • nannypoo

Serving dominatrix realness with C boobs in A cups.

  • I like her but I really dislike that dress. Too severe while also being too busy on top.

  • Kayceed

…but I’m not buying. Too much.

  • I really don’t care for bra straps on dresses.

    • Adriana_Paula

      I’m with you on that.

  • VioletFem

She is serving up Ursula realness.

  • jmorino08

That rack is amazing! I bow down before her Royal Titness!

  • It is just *this* side of supervillain costume…but I have to admit I really like it.  It would have helped to have more structure under the leather inserts at the side, though; it would cut down on the wrinkling.

  • gsk241

Serving Morticia Addams in the 21st century realness.  Yes, that’s a compliment.

  • afabulous50

There should be a person stationed at each limo that asks each person getting out…”Did you brush your hair?”  BRUSH YOUR HAIR before you go on any RC!!  There…that feels better.

  • EveEve

    Ick – tacky.

  • formerlyAnon

Catwoman on a hot date is in trying-too-hard territory, IMO. I might change my  mind if she had more structured hair, that hair is too “trying to be sexy” for me.

But then, dresses like this were not designed to draw *my* attention.

  • The curvature of the bodice pieces are supposed to give an illusion, but they are not. And her smile knows it!

  • MilaXX

She could stand  a bit of blotting powder, but I have to hand it to her, she looks great in that dress.

  • Annabelle Archer

It should be all kinds of no, but she’s is making it work like yes, yes, yes!

  • Judy_S

Kinda Fredericks of Hollywood, but she is werqing it.

  • VeryClaire

  • Jecca2244

are these bra strap straps a thing now? Just looks bleh on the top.

    • l_c_ann

I knew something looked wrong with the straps, you’re right, they are bra straps.  As if she’s going to add a rib or two and need a longer torso the next time she wears the dress.

  • gabbilevy

The fit could be better, but it suits the occasion and there’s no denying she’s insanely hot.

  • Word.  Love it.

  • SugarSnap108

Oof.  Tough one.  I find the dress itself cheap-looking.  Yet there is something about her that elevates it (and not just her glorious tits).  Also, I have to give it up to a woman in her 50s who looks this slammin.

  • sablehunter

She has WAY too much boob for this dress and it crossed into tacky territory.  Another testimonial that small chested girls have all the fun fashion-wise.  Le sigh.

  • She looks ridiculous in this dress. Too bad because the makeup is pretty.

  • BrooklynBomber

    Oh, my.

  • GorgeousThings

‘…which is “fashion blogger” for “Wow, her tits look great!”’
    Hahahahahahahahahahaha! Snort!

  • decormaven

That bodice harkens to the Statue of Liberty. Talk about “your huddled masses yearning to breathe free”!

  • Dot

I don’t know…it looks like a gown composed of numerous undergarments. She has a fantastic body, but this probably isn’t the best way of showcasing it.

  • fungstyle

I don’t love this, but dear lord if I look half this good at 54, I will die a happy woman.

  • TAGinMO

I dunno, you guys…it’s not completely without redeeming qualities, but the overall look just seems tacky and unflattering. I think she needs to go up a size, and DEFINITELY go up a few cup sizes. Finally, as great as she looks for her age, I think she is just a tad too old for this frock.

  • n a

ok- the dress is meh, but I can just never get over how AMAZING this woman looks– always.  Her body and skin and face… she just looks so incredible…aging gracefully, in great shape, etc.  Now she’s probably some ‘extra help’ but God bless her, she looks awesome- and not like a Hollywood freak show with duck lips and puffy face.

  • jw_ny

She looks like she’s stuffed into that super villain gown…her tits look tortured.  If she went up a size, I might like it as it looks elegant on the model.  She could also use some powder to combat that face sheen too.

  • “What is that?”

    “A dress!”

    “Says who?”

    “Bottega Veneta!”

    “It looks like underwear!”

  • Re: tits — right?  I actually thought the words, “Wow, nice tits!”  I suspect the architecture is helping her out, and that’s hard to get right, so good for her. And yes (bitter kittens), the dress is a touch costumey, but she’s at the *costume designers’ guild awards*.  That’s exactly the event to break out the Batwoman dress for.

  • Janet B

Madeleine is a gorgeous woman, she deserves a more flattering dress than this. Although this is a nice pick for the event. Yes, that is a lot of “impact”.

  • mmc2315

Great tits, but I think the dress looks better on someone less curvy.

  • MoHub

    Hello, girls!

  • OrigamiRose

She looks great but in a dress a size too small (at least for her bustline).

  • christinewithanx

    • Lulu Lafurge

Yes, my eyes went right to the breasts… then to the veins. (Note to self: check same on mine.)

  • Noooooo! Those straps are too tiny for that bodice.

  • is she vying for a spot on the bad plastic surgury website or what?

  • mhleta

SHE looks great. The top of the dress is too literally an undergarment to my eye. Needs something other than bra straps holding it up.

  • I can’t past the fact that the bodice/cups just don’t fit her. It reminds me of when I couldn’t figure out my bra size as a teenager

  • prettybigkitty

She is serving.  In the boudoir.

  • peachy

there is alotta funkiness goin’ on at her waistline…..

  • unbornfawn

The bra straps are bugging the crap out of me.

  • kschwarting

It looks a bit snug on her, although her face looks great.

On another note, I’m ready for the sheer inserts trend to die.

  • cowper

  • susan6

Her rack is amazing, but this getup is giving a bit too much “cougar on the prowl” vibe to me.

  • I wish she’d done the black lipstick, too!

  • Sara__B

I’ve never been a fan of formal slips. She’s stuffed herself into a dominatrix version that’s at least a size too small, which is even worse.

  • alyce1213

The cups don’t fit right, so how can the boobs look great?  I’ve never been a fan of corset dresses (especially not bridal), or spidery, witchy ones like this.  Except on Cher. (Well, I know what I mean.)

  • Totally agree that this is too “costumey” for anything BUT the Costumers Guild Awards, but DAYUM does she look hot!

  • Trisha26

Sorry, TLo, tits do not look great if you can see veins…just ewwwh.

  • Zippypie

Even with the too small cups and the supervillianess vibe, her decollatage is working the shit out of that dress.  Look at how flawless that skin is for 54.  Damn!

  • Lucas Huntington

Noooooo….  the whole top half of that dress is a mess.

  • barbarienne

There’s definitely more than a little “evil queen” going on in this dress, but since it’s the Costume Designers Guild awards, why the heck not? Where else you gonna wear this except as a guest star on Once Upon a Time?

  • TSkot

Looks great on the model, but proportions are off on Ms. Stowe and she looks heavy.

  • Veiny Tits McGee has wild Michele Bachmann eyes. Wassupwitdat?

  • missnutkin

ugh no – very weird on the boobs and waist

  • Judy_J

She should have gone up a size.  I’m sure she wanted to showcase the girls, but wearing a dress that’s too tight isn’t the way to go.

  • ojosazules

She’s fabulous, but the dress is not.

  • libraangel

Need a little extra money on the side, do we, Madeleine?

  • Anniebet

Lots of blue veins to accessorize the dress, forehead and chest. Lots of shine as well. Don’t love the dress.

But, I do adore this actress and am super glad she has a great TV role. She was always under-utilized in film, IMO.

  • Louise Bryan

I just do not like the underwear as outerwear fashion statement, and I didn’t like it when Madonna was doing it 30 years ago, either.

  • elzatelzabelz

You know Halle Berry is pissed Madeline Stowe wore this dress first b/c it screams “Halle” to me!

  • NYCGlamourpuss

Woah, the boobs are threatening to make a break for it!  Love the dress, but on the model.

  • kategs

This is what the Fug Girls had to say and it made me howl…
” feel like maybe I just barged in on her in her boudoir and if I turn around, I will see Brian Benben wearing a Gimp costume.”

  • pop_top

See Britney, this is how you wear this dress. Though I concur she could go up a size.

  • BigWhiteGrannyPanties

I’m with all the folks on here.  Too small in the boobskis and too tight in the waist.  She looks apologetic in these photos because she knows the frock is too small.
