Great color for her, I dig this.

    • http://twitter.com/jennsaysmeow Fifi LaRoux

I agree on the color, it look great on her. I just can’t get behind the lace on the top. If that was a different lace or a different sheer, then I think I would like it more.

      • urbanamish

the lace on the model is better.

        • http://twitter.com/iJenmac Jennifer McClory

Agreed. It looks like they turned the lace from the model’s version sideways for Lily’s version.  Weird.

        • http://hearmeintheharmony.wordpress.com/ Melanie

I don’t see how it’s different. Can you enlighten men?

          • urbanamish

the lace on the model has more open work, more negative space, which allows you to see the details of the pretty tendrils of the pattern . also  the placement of the more open space creates a flattering “V” shape on her chest and then the denser lace on the sides  creates the illusion of narrowing the upper body. i hope that made sense.

          • http://hearmeintheharmony.wordpress.com/ Melanie

Hmm. To me, any differences are due to the different shapes created by Collins’s breasts, not the lacework itself.  I’m trying really hard to see what you mean, but I just don’t.  Thanks for taking the time to explain, though.  I appreciate it.

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/Lucía-Gavello/1253586868 Lucía Gavello

I like the lace, the lining is kind of wonky though.

  • Isana Leshchinskaya

a little old for her, but she looks beautiful nonetheless.

  • Alyssa

The back view is gorgeous…I’m not loving it as much from the front though. But I tend not to like the floral lace with nude underlining. She looks very different with her hair pulled back! I didn’t recognize her at first.

Also, I can’t wait for the Mortal Instruments movie!

    • http://twitter.com/jennsaysmeow Fifi LaRoux

Me either! I have read the books twice now waiting for them! :)

    • kimmeister

She almost looks East Indian with her hair like that!

  • mjude

    the dress is really gorgeous.

    • http://twitter.com/foodycatAlicia foodycatAlicia

And the jewels! I’m glad to see the blue thing wasn’t just her poledancing for Snow White, because it is gorgeous on her.

  • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

    Gorge-er-riffic!

  • In_Stitches

The design emphasizes her curves on the lower half, but not the top making her look pear shaped.  Great dress for an athletic lady with narrow hips, but not on Lily.  Wish they scrapped the lace and continued with the striped theme.  Sure, it’d be a bit Beetlejuice, but wouldn’t that be fabulous?

    • kimmeister

I just think the dress needed someone with a stronger shoulder.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Josefina-Madariaga-Suárez/100002964685796 Josefina Madariaga Suárez

A little bit too mature for her, but she cuts an amazing figure. And she looks quite perfect.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Julie-Chase/731391326 Julie Chase

    I love it. Very dramatic.

  • gabbilevy

The only complaint I have is with the hair… it’s so severe. But that dress is ahMAYzing.

  • Andrew Schroeder

The lace is very flattening across the front.

  • BayTampaBay

    Great Color!  I like.

  • ankali

Gorgeous dress, not loving the center-parted hair.

    • http://twitter.com/ryenerman ryenerman

Was just coming here to say the same.  I am so very tired of this hair style.  It seems to be all over the place lately and flatters almost no one.  Bah.

    • SouthernGirlRena

Thank you – I was trying to figure out what was off about her hair.  It is the center part with the sides pulled back.  I love the dress and the back is really beautiful.  The lacy top looks really pretty but itchy.

    • http://profiles.google.com/gillianholroyd gillian holroyd

With the slicked-back sides, it’s much too severe combined with the strong brow. The rest is lovely.

  • KSpence

    Wow. She looks fantastic.

  • Sobaika

To much dress for her, especially from the front angles.

  • teensmom99

I am getting desensitized to lace over a nude look.  But it’s still no good-even though the blue is amazing and it’s lovely on her.

  • Annabelle Archer

How old is she?  How many millions worth of diamonds is she wearing?
She looks lovely, but the whole thing is styled for a woman whose teen years are long since behind her.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_U5LTVYHX32MGMMXR33G7TOXVR4 Magdalena Monzerrat Ontiveros

    WERQ!!!

  • http://www.ellenciompi.com/ NurseEllen

Keep the earrings, lose the rest of the bling, and fluff your hair out a little.  SO TIRED of the center part with either slicked back hair or loose but flat-ironed hair.

    • Snailstsichr

YES – OMG those earrings just took my breath away.

    • littlemac8

Yup!  A few too many rings which are unnecessary since the earrings are spectacular1

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Jessica-TallGirl-Freeman/1043623567 Jessica TallGirl Freeman

I love this. I want this. All of it.

  • http://www.serpentsdance.etsy.com/ SerpentsDance

Beautiful color, but I wish she’d gone for some contrast or a neutral color with the earrings. They’re the exact same color as the dress and it’s a bit too matchy for my taste.

  • JasmineAM

    It’s a WERQ for me!

  • Deb Oswald

I think it could have used a slightly lower neckline!  The back is gorgeous!!!

  • kimmeister

The dress is fantastic but requires at least a Master’s degree in Wearing Things, which Lily doesn’t have yet.

  • http://twitter.com/PhDKnitter marlie

LOOOOOOOVE this. Such a gorgeous gown. And the hair, makeup and jewelry are flawless.

  • tereliz

Honestly, I love everything about this look. The hair might be a touch severe, but her brilliant smile mitigates that. Love the color, the mix of patterns, the cut, the JEWELS! Can’t see her shoes, but everything else is STELLAR!

  • Little_Olive

I hate it. Am I wrong?

The sheer lace, the undergarment, how mature it is for her, the combination of top and bottom… ugh, no. I cannot endorse this.

  • Kathy_Marlow

I gasped when I saw this, it’s so striking.  She’s cutting quite the figure.

  • Zippypie

Something about this isn’t working for me.  I think my lacism is rising up again.  I just can’t deal with it anymore.  Sick of it.  But those stripes….it’s the same thing I hated about Halle Berry’s dress.  The stripes are bugging.  They remind me of old morning tux pants or vaudeville pants and I just don’t like it.

    Love the color, though.

    • http://www.snoskred.org/ Snoskred

      Lacism! ROFL!

Not that I condone lacism, or any -ism for that matter. -Ism’s in my opinion are not good. :)

  • Judy_J

At first glance I really liked it, buth then on closer inspection found I was put off by that wide band of lining in the bodice.  Seems to me it could have been done in a less obvious way.

  • RescueMe23

Why are all the after-party dresses better than the Oscar dresses??  This is amazing…

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_VZLU6YVO4BRTELTTH3GRAAMWZQ Dot

       Right?! I don’t get it.

    • MilaXX

I think many celebs are trying too hard at the Oscars and want to look cute but still be able to party at the after party. I wish they realized that both options are not mutually exclusive.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_ZBFH32YG44LIIZYLSQPMBXMYCU Sarah

My mother collected china that looked like this dress, and therefore I love it, but I also happen to think that it looks insanely gorgeous on her and wish I could wear it without looking like one of my mom’s aforementioned teapots.

    • Laurie Bergman

I wrote something similar before seeing your comment! Very “blue and white” porcelain to me as well.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_VZLU6YVO4BRTELTTH3GRAAMWZQ Dot

Not at all what I expected upon seeing the thumbnail, but I was pleasantly surprised at the full shots. She looks great — excellent color for her. What a stunner.

  • Laurie Bergman

I think she is a beautiful young woman and I love that gorgeous blue. But the overall effect for me is Spode dinnerware.

  • Unvacuous

It’s a really great look, more than I expected from her.  Some say too mature but I say gorgeous and sophisticated, not to mention how hard it is for a girl as petite as Lily to pull off.

  • ChaquitaPhilly

    Blue Willow Blue, dilly dilly!

  • formerlyAnon

Man, I love everything but the laciness of the top. There are so many different ways to do the top that I’d have liked better. Props to her for being willing to splash out on some shiny purple and choosing suitable earrings.

  • B_C_J

Glamorous, refined, elegant – a total hit. The color is wonderful on her.

  • Trisha26

Beautiful, original gown. Love the color.

  • Imasewsure

Love the top half on her; would love the bottom half on anyone but I don’t love them together. She looks gorgeous though

  • http://riley-merrick.livejournal.com/ JP

How tall is she? It looks like the dress is wearing her, despite the beautiful color.

  • MilaXX

I like it. I wish Amanda Seyfried had worn this instead of that pale frock she wore. This color would have looked fabulous on her.

  • libraangel

The stripes are giving me a headache

  • http://twitter.com/ladonnazc LaDonna Carpenter

    Cruella De-Vine!

  • barbarienne

Not digging the American Gothic farmwife hair, but otherwise this is gorgeous.

  • nannypoo

I hate the lace, and all those rings worn together look cheap. Sorry.

  • Lisa M. (ReVoir) Kramp

Lovely, but not loving it. It’s like my hubby said, “When the dress is one thing on the bottom and another thing on the top, it doesn’t work.”

  • SewingSiren

Beautiful girl and dress. Too many rings but whose looking at those anyway..

  • Sara__B

Lace usually makes my face twitch, but this is a great, attention-getting gown, and the color and silhouette look wonderful on her. Well done, Lily! (Now could I see the lace-free version, please?)

  • MissAmynae

I love this- the modern feel of the stripes offsets the lace, keeps it from going matronly. The color is amazing.

Only thing I would change is to clean up the stray inner eyebrow hairs, and clean up her sideburns. I know her brows are a signature feature, but there’s no need for a strong brow to be messy.

  • jw_ny

So pretty and that’s a cool and edgy dress… although the lace, neckline and the bandage around her boobs all kind of bug me.  Not crazy about her earrings either…would be better without the blue stones.  She’s workin it tho.

  • anotherkate

    It seems so…mature.

  • up with pod people

The girl is so damn exquisite. I’d love to see more of her here.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_F73LIJ3SJGI5AJQMXMWXCKILHI Pamela

Not liking the combination of delicate flowers and stripes but I’ll push her down & run over her for those earrings.

  • Janet B

The 5th photo down is gorgeous!  She should keep those earrings and wear them with another blue dress.
A little lace goes a long ways and this dress just has too much.

  • lrober03

Like the dress, the hair is way too severe.

  • Nonmercisansfacon

    Love this look.

  • ferngilly

all splendor.  It’s an interesting and eye-catching look.  To me, she is somewhat reminiscent of Elizabeth Taylor in this – can’t quite figure out why.

  • quiltrx

That color is REALLY fabulous on her.  I love the Tim-Burton-esque skirt!  The lace works on the bodice–and I guess I say that because I can’t think of a better substitute.

She should have borrowed my big, square shoulders for this one!

  • pulpytomato

One of my top five favorites of the night. She can really pull off these gowns and she’s not afraid of taking a few risks.

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/Y3OY6COEVBS2STNCUNIRZ3COUE Claudia

Very pretty, all told.  LOVE the colour.

  • decormaven

Thanks for posting this look! I saw this while browsing photos of the VF party- this photographed so well. Amazing color!

  • shelley514

    Very pretty.

  • http://twitter.com/mrdestructicity Dave White

I hate to say it but the center part, combined with the eyebrows, are giving off a major Frida Kahlo vibe.

  • http://hearmeintheharmony.wordpress.com/ Melanie

I love this so much, though I do wish it was all striped.

  • peachy

whoa…. showstopper of a dress. color is perfect for her. hair is perfectly styled too. nicely done, ms. collins, nicely done.

  • http://remedialstitcher.blogspot.com/ Sara Leigh Merrey

I don’t like the bodice. A solid would have been better than the lace.

  • http://www.facebook.com/NadiyaOsmani Pudgy Possum

    gorgeous dress!

    • http://www.facebook.com/NadiyaOsmani Pudgy Possum

But, wait–what’s going on with her booby guards? It’s all dishevelled under her top…

  • ThaliaMenninger

    Fabulous

  • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

    GORGEOUS COLOR!!!

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=535548244 Kim Baker Vidas Davey-Irvin

    loving this.

  • librarygrrl64

Very pretty, if a bit mature.

  • PeaceBang

I just got a little breathless. I love the whole thing really hard, and I’m in monster lust with that ring on her fourth finger. Maybe I can buy a framed photo of it to place on my bed stand and gaze at from time to time.

  • Frank Lithium

    Very pretty.
