Those Mara girls can rock the edgy stuff.

      • Airkisses

OH. MY. GOD. I totally didn´t make the connection between her and Rooney until this very moment!

And apparently, Dakota and Elle are siblings, too! <– self-deprecating humor :)

        • PastryGoddess

Back when Rooney had brown hair you could totally see that they were sisters.  Now you have to squint a little to see the resemblance.

Did you also know that Luke is Leia’s brother? Knock me over with a feather!

    • Sobaika

Hair is slightly too blah, but this is a solid overall look and an excellent heel.

    • Vera L-

Is this the black counterpart to the white bedskirt ensemble J. Law was wearing? I like this MUCH better.

    • kimmeister

That neckline is flattering on no one.  The shoulders/sleeves aren’t right for her arms either.

Well, at least the hair and makeup look good.

      • rloliveira

I agree. A ballet neckline on that dress would have been much better.

        • E. D.

Even a cowl is better than that.

    • Tatiana Luján

      I love this.

Kate can certainly pull off simple but edgy looks, and she looks gorgeous. My only complaint is that column-silhouette dresses make hourglass girls look shapeless. And those bizarre little extra flaps at sides don’t help.

    • belfebe

Love the shoes, and it’s a cute dress, but it’s doing nothing for her.

    • sablehunter

Very very nice.  Fabulous shoes and the hair looks pretty.  Thank you for not doing the severe part bun thing she seems to like so much.

    • kerry dee

      so bori-zzzzzzzzzzzzz

    • shirab

I just do not get that type of shoe. To me it always looks like the gas pedal in the car got stuck to the toe, and in this case somehow it got iced by a pastry chef afterward.

      • Diane Lynch

Totally agree with you, @shirab. Hate the shoes. Although icing . . . mmmmmm.

      • 3boysful

I thought she’d gotten her little brother’s Legos stuck to her shoes.

And if it were MY movie premier, I hope I’d be a bit more glam and rocking some borrowed jewelry.  Except for the bizzare shoes, this is church-appropriate.

        • http://twitter.com/chapinn Caitlin C. Gaffey

Well, to be fair, this is her sister’s premiere, not hers, so a more subtle look is appropriate

          • 3boysful

Ahhh, thanks for setting me straight, Caitlin!

        • drdarke

She’s a nice Upper-Class Young Lady from Westchester, @3boysful:disqus – her Uncles own the NY Giants and Yonkers Speedway, and her Grandpa founded the Pittsburgh Steelers.

As an actress without a college education, I’m guessing she’s the Black Sheep of the family – so when the fam gets together to take over some other part of the Sports or Entertainment World, she plays it demure….

      • http://twitter.com/stellaphone Stella Zawistowski

I’m getting right here in the “I hate shoes that look like a perfectly nice pump got stuck to a giant block of whatever” corner with you.

      • gabbilevy

Yes! This! I don’t get it!

      • Airkisses

Ha! Icing! Can´t unsee it :)

    • subwaycars

She looks weirdly shapeless though I kinda like the hem ruffle thing. Also, I love the shoes.

    • Imasewsure

Love love love this on her. It’s a weird shape but so what… chic without being form fitting. Wish there was small necklace or bracelet or something to add color to the column of black but still think it’s fantastic as is

    • SugarSnap108

It’s kind of a cute dress, but the cut is not right for her.  I think she may need a larger size — On the model it’s much roomier on top, and the sleeves and neckline look entirely different.  Or maybe you just need to be a size 0 for this dress to work.

Also, platform pumps are from hell.

    • filmcricket

      Her hair is pretty.

      …That’s all I got.

    • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

Not anything ground breaking, but very lovely and sweet.

    • mjude

i kinda like it.  the bottom of the shoes looks like hostess cupcake frosting.

    • MilaXX

I like this look and I almost like those shoes, but I can barely stand platform pumps and I really disliked the tacked on look these have.

BTW, Her show is really good. I’m just started to netflix the UK version.

      • BrooklynBomber

“I can barely stand platform pumps and I really disliked the tacked on look these have.”

I agree. This look annoys, and it must make it very hard to walk. We went from the gladiator trend to beartraps, and now we’re stuck with shankle straps and half-platforms. . . until the next silly thing comes along. I wonder what it’ll be.

        • MilaXX

It’s like a grand conspiracy to make it difficult for women to walk.

          • BrooklynBomber

            Not to mention look silly.

    • Stubenville

The hem looks like a longer dress caught in her panties. And mjude called it on the cupcake squiggle shoes.

    • Zippypie

Looks messy, unfinished, unfitted, unhemmed.  And mjude on the shoes – yes!  Hostess cupcakes.

    • http://profile.yahoo.com/DAQBA4ARCT6OWBBVZEZM5TCFJA Jon

Love it. (Can we send one of everything to Lena Dunham?)

    • http://twitter.com/foodycatAlicia foodycatAlicia

      Evening tennis dress.

    • jmorino08

    • nannypoo

I hate the shoes, and it looks like she got the front of her skirt caught in her underpants.

    • alyce1213

I know it’s a luxe fabric, which might mitigate the look somewhat, but basically it’s an ill-fitting black sack with a deep ruffle.
      Really, it is.

    • greymain

LOVE the shoes …HATE the hair.

    • Monabel

That dress is homely. Not in a good way.

    • http://twitter.com/PhDKnitter marlie

Cute. And the shoes are perfect for this look!

    • Deedles

As my dad always says, “Up and back, up and back!” (He has always been somewhat of a posture policeman)

    • http://twitter.com/#!/Space_Kitty Space Kitty

Seriously, though – how soon ’til we just start launching them out on stilts? I mean, really.

    • Annabelle Archer

      So much improvement!
The makeup is spot on, as always, but the hair is much improved.
The dress is edgy without being try hard and the shoes are killa!
Is that the teeniest hint of fun I see in her eyes?  Ok, it’s not, but let’s not focus on the negatives.

    • Natalie Bryan

I’m really liking that dress, like…more than I think I should. I want to wear it. But sure as hell not with those ugly shoes.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1208138556 Sara Munoz Munoz

I like her hair down for a change.

    • OrigamiRose

Yikes, I asked for those shoes as a Valentine’s gift :o

    • RzYoung

I like everything that’s going on here.

    • Beardslee

The character she plays in House of Cards is such a pill I am having a hard time seeing a pretty young woman.  Also, the decorated hoof distracts me.  You can put lipstick on a pig-but it is still a pig.

    • http://phantomminuet.blogspot.com/ MinAgain

I never like her hair.   The dress is fine, but I can’t get behind the platform pump, even though this is a very pretty version.

    • Ashley Garrett

What is the opposite of “scroll down fug” because this kept getting cuter the farther I scrolled!

      • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1355527007 Rain Jezek

Maybe “scroll down love”? Nothing that rhymes with fug works, unfortunately.

    • http://twitter.com/aidanboleyn Aidan B

Like the dress, LOVE the shoes. This would be much better with a chunky, colorful necklace though, I think.

      • dharmabum8

        Couldn’t have said it better.

    • libraangel

Er – no, I mean yes, um no, well maybe yes, well maybe just maybe

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1355527007 Rain Jezek

The platform pumps are getting costume-y. Their design is really attractive, and I’d love to see them on a Star Trek alien princess, but here I feel like they take you out of the look. The dress is lovely, though.

    • librarygrrl64

What is it with all of the crazy hemlines and stiffness in some of the featured looks lately? If this is the new trend, I don’t like it.

    • guest2visits

I think the quirky heels saved the plain little black dress from being a black t-shirt.

    • 4JJ

I like the model’s shoes better.

    • Frank Lithium

I don’t like the tube-structure of the dress, but other then the midsection, she is doing fine.

    • shelley514

Kate Mara is a better actor than her sister Rooney.  This is a great look on her.
