      Maybe the wrong venue, Jennifer.

      • MilaXX

I get why she went with such a serious outfit. She was singing “America the Beautiful” with the Sandy Hook kids.

        • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1208138556 Sara Munoz Munoz

Serious is not the first word that comes to my mind…

        • pdquick

I see what you did there, MilaXX.

      • shnaggi

There is NO venue to support this look…unless she’s cruising on the ss S&M Sailor.

      • Delaney Davis

For all the pearl clutching about how Beyonce dressed for the Super Bowl, there had better be some serious wailing over this mess worn specifically for a performance for children. Skintight leather? I raise my eyebrow at you.

        • Emily Wilson

It’s a skin tight turtleneck…like every other turtleneck on the planet. Her skin is almost entirely covered by fabric. How is that not appropriate to wear around kids?

        • http://www.facebook.com/Murphy.J.Colin Colin Murphy

That’s the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard. Go back the 1950’s. This is not a sexual outfit whatsoever. If you say leather automatically equates to sex, you are telling the rest of us way too much about your sex life.

      • Cheri Lee

I agree. She doesn’t fit in with the kids as if she is up there alone and the kids were CGI’d in as an after thought. She appeared too diva-ish for singing with children. I was expecting to almost demand that they carry her off the field.

    • Sobaika

Perfect for the situation and venue. I want to quibble about her hair, but I thought this was well done and not too showy.

    • gabbilevy

Skirt was too tight and awkwardly proportioned, but I didn’t mind the outfit in theory.

    • hmariec19

I hated this outfit, full stop.  The skirt doesn’t fit, and who would WANT to wear a leather turtleneck? That sounds awful.

    • xmixiex

      bad.  bad.  bad.

black on top (her smallest half) and white with those buttons on the bottom (bigger half) makes her so crazy out of proportion… the length of that skirt gives cankles to begin with, then paired with a thick ankle strap?? turtleneck? with a high waisted skirt? just. wrong.

      • kimmeister

Not to mention the high neck combined with the hair poof make her neck disappear entirely.

      • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=610791985 Aniela Marie Perry

I guess, if you’re stuck in that archaic mindset that insists proper female proportions are more top-heavy if anything and not the more common and healthy pear shape.

        • xmixiex

um, no, I’m not saying that at all. she looks out of proportion because of the colour blocking, shape, and tightness of the garments. not because that’s a ‘flaw’ in her body.(her boobs look huge and droopy too, which doesn’t really fit your comment either.) if that’s not a concept you understand I’m not sure why you’re reading a fashion blog.

    • EveEve

I know a lot of BKs may object to how tight the skirt is, and how it is accentuating her hips, but not I!  She looks great – and love the hair and make up.

      • Tatiana Luján

I like how her hips look in this skirt. What I don’t like is how her calves look, tho hose looks oldlady and the shoes cut her legs.

        • fursa_saida

Exactly my problem. Everything was going swimmingly until I got to her knees.

        • http://twitter.com/stellaphone Stella Zawistowski

I like her hips in this, too. It’s actually her knees that are the problem for me. It looks like she can’t walk!

        • Jennifer Coleman

Jennifer is pretty knock-kneed and tight pencil skirts that extend below her knees are not her friend. At all. She looks like a doll that some kid bent the legs out at an odd angle. If she wanted to wear a pencil skirt, keep the length at the top-to-mid knee and not use such a severe taper.

    • FrayedMachine

I honestly -hate- the trend of leather fabric lately. It makes everyone look insanely stiff and uncomfortable. I would love the look if the skirt were a bit shorter and the top were a different fabric all together. The skirt is quite cute, it just seems to be taking up a whole lot of her.

    • butterflysunita

Don’t like the bangs.  She has a beautiful face–why hide it?

    • Carly Warnock

A leather turtleneck?! Sheer hose with clunky ankle strap shoes? A white skirt on a woman with larger hips? None of this works. Who on earth could work a leather turtleneck?!

    • MilaXX

I almost liked this. Her hair & makeup was really pretty, but the length on that skirt was not good for someone so knock-kneed. From the waist up, nice.

    • Fordzo

It felt a little dominatrix to me.

    • Ruth Preston

Just hideously unflattering. The proportions make her bottom half look like a bowling pin. And I can’t get behind the ankle monitor heels, either.

      • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_2P2ANLRZ6YAVGONA36I2AQJYGI VicD

         yes!

      • http://profiles.google.com/dorothymichael Dorothy & Michael n/a

EXACTLY what I was thinking about the ankle monitor(s)!!

    • http://twitter.com/stellaphone Stella Zawistowski

I get it. I’m a former big girl too, and I get wanting to wear clothes that show off your new shape, even after it’s been a couple of years and it’s not really your “new” shape any more. But I’m not loving how the skirt is so tight it looks like someone had to carry her up on stage.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_AYQCICXEN2CCDBFV5HED4Z2RUA Dee B

Comments about anything accentuating the hips as a bad thing aren’t usually accurate when it comes to Black women.  Hips are a good thing.

      • MoHub

         But proportion counts.

    • Tatiana Luján

ankle straps (specially those wide ones that look like shackles) with a skirt below the knee? You sure wanted to look stumpy and you nailed it, girl.

    • crash1212

Everything – from the flatness of her hair right down to the S&M looking shoes – horribly ill chosen. She can and has looked fabulous – last night was not one of those times. It’s a shame really.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1447060898 Lori Wade Miller

Bless her, I bet she squeaked when she walked.  Beautiful lady, though.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Cortney-Dean/100002491593625 Cortney Dean

I don’t hate the outfit per se, I just don’t think this was the right venue for it?

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_2P2ANLRZ6YAVGONA36I2AQJYGI VicD

Just because you CAN wear fitted L’Wren Scott clothing, doesn’t mean you SHOULD.  Those shoes are horrifying, also.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_VZLU6YVO4BRTELTTH3GRAAMWZQ Dot

Ugh. Horrible. The concept of the outfit is nice, but the colors are just way off balance. It could have worked so much better if different colors were deployed here. Also, the ankle brace heels break up the visual line in such an awkward way. And a ribbon pinned to a leather top just seems wrong.

    • hughman

Since the buttons on the skirt aren’t utilitarian, would it have killed them to make them not flop around?

GO HOME BUTTONS. YOU ARE DRUNK.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1320543246 Eleonora Rossi

I kind of like how she underlines her curves, I disapprove of the breasts zone though

    • jw_ny

The performance with the children was wonderful and touching.

I did not like one thing I like about this outfit tho…nothing flattering or occasion/song appropriate.

    • BuffaloBarbara

Love the skirt (though it could stand to go up a size), but that top is seriously fug.

    • ojosazules

Don’t love leather turtlenecks or or shoes with shackle straps, but she looks pretty good.

    • http://twitter.com/foodycatAlicia foodycatAlicia

I like the skirt. I’d like it more if it were 1/2″ looser. I hate the top and I am dubious about the shoes. I am also somewhat conflicted about having those kids at the Super Bowl.

      • Sobaika

I am too. It’s a bit discomfiting, but I thought the performance was tastefully done considering.

        • http://twitter.com/foodycatAlicia foodycatAlicia

Was it? Oh good. I haven’t seen it!

          • Sobaika

About as much as it could have been. I also think her outfit looked a lot better in motion.

      • dorothea_brooke

Yeah, I know, but they got to go to the Super Bowl, which was probably pretty fun.

I hate her shoes, and have an irrational aversion to leather clothing other than outerwear, but the rest is OK.

    • jennmarie19

I can take or leave the outfit, but the performance just reduced me to a sobbing mess. What a tragic connection she shares with those kids. What each of them has been through . . . I have no words.

      • Carrieanno

Wholeheartedly agree.  It was all about the kids.  Brave and beautiful.  All of them.

      • http://twitter.com/foodycatAlicia foodycatAlicia

Good point – I’d forgotten about her family tragedy.

    • Introspective

the skirt needed to hit her higher on the leg. it makes her figure look wonky. i think as milaxx says, its because she’s knockneed…

it gives me a meh effect at best overall. her performance however, was undeniably uplifting. her voice is just beautiful. and with the sandy hook kids too? a tear jerker…

    • BrooklynBomber

What a bizarre look. And when is the shankle-strap trend going to end? It was cute for a minute.

    • Angela_the_Librarian

If you scroll down really quickly the fourth and fifth pictures almost blend together to make it look like she has super long legs and an extra arm.
I really like the skirt, but she should have went with a different top and different shoes.

    • mariavii

I liked the outfit a lot and wished I could wear it…though the floppy buttons are horribly annoying.  What I really liked, though, was her hair.  If it were down it would have been too much with the shirt and it’s high neck; all up would have been too much for the occasion; a pony would have been distracting swinging around while she sang.  The side not-up-do was a nice way to tackle that.

    • TieDye64

For the most part she looks good, but the skirt would be so much better if it were a shorter length. Also, lose the button.

    • belfebe

She looks fabulous.  That is all.

    • E. D.

That skirt needs to several inches shorter, maybe up to the third row from the bottom.

    • e jerry powell

Almost but not quite.  Fit issues.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=790818401 Laurie Landry

      The skirt is Hiddy!

    • http://twitter.com/DarthJaeda Jaeda Laurez

I loved it- it was still a tad sexy, but really restrained and tasteful. Not a fan of the heavy wig, but it wasn’t a dealbreaker either. Her face was BEAT- overall, loved the look.

    • MoHub

Ya know, she sang so surprisingly badly that I didn’t even notice what she was wearing.

    • throwaneyeonthis

I think L’Wren Scott designs beautiful clothing.  But face it, when the designer is something like 6’4″ and 110 pounds, she doesn’t design that well for height challenged women with curves.  Same for Victoria Beckham.

      • Sobaika

Victoria Beckham actually does clothing that can translate across sizes, I think.

        • throwaneyeonthis

I adore V. Beckham’s clothes but just feel like my 5’3″, 125 pound hourglass frame won’t do the clothes justice.  So I just admire from afar!

    • B_C_J

I like the side knotted hair as well as her makeup. The leather top is striking. I am on the fence with the skirt. It seems a tad too long and the buttons are distracting. I like the black hose but I really dislike the shoes.  However, it was a powerful and emotional performance.

    • Trisha26

Striking look for her new figure, skirt could be a tad shorter. Not loving those shoes with the ankle shackles.

    • mjude

i didnt care for the skirt but i was focused on the darling children singing with her.  very sweet

      • Janet B

        The children were so sweet.
I wish she worn something more low key.

        • mjude

you know the more i think about it, you are right something more low key.  it was all about the kids.

    • Sara__B

No. The huge slit up the back and excessive tightness seem wrong for the song and for the kids chorus backing her up, and the proportions of the skirt and top are off. I’m not a fan of this outfit.

    • Rand Ortega

Skirt’s too tight. The leather turtle seemed a bit too hardcore for the performance. Just looked like the bottom worked for the number, the top belonged more for an extended concert type performance.

    • l_c_ann

I think she should have worn a white blouse and a pair of Khaki plants or a khaki skirt.  It wasn’t about her, after all.

    • ringthing

Ok, I hated Kerry Washington’s look and I hate J Hud’s look, too. I thought she looked awkward and uncomfortable last night and the still shots don’t change my opinion. It’s Monday and I am filled with hate. Perhaps I just need a sandwich.

      • carpediva

“It’s Monday and I am filled with hate.”

        Hahahaha, THIS.

    • Imasewsure

Like the skirt, hate the top with it… shoes might be ok with a better top to start but I’m not a big fan of them in general

    • nannypoo

      Too tight and not flattering.

    • http://twitter.com/PhDKnitter marlie

If it were a skosh less “painted-on-tight,” I think I’d love it. As it is, I can’t imagine how she can walk anywhere with her skirt that tight.

    • another_laura

Proportions of the outfit are way off, and those shoes are making me think of – yes, I’ll say it – ankle manacles.  A miss from Ms. Hudson.

    • greathill

Loved the performance but I think it would have been very sporting of her to wear the same khakis and white polo as the children.  The outfit was just too out of proportion (figuratively) to the performance.

    • MintaHallWriter

Ick. WAY too tight. Proportions wrong. Not a good look. She’s done way better almost any time in the past.

    • http://twitter.com/nkk Nikki

Every single person in the room (male and female) was sober at the point and said – WTF is Jennifer Hudson wearing. The women said it made her look fat despite the fact she lost all that weight and all the guys were like huh?  It was a moment that was lost on many people.  Then the moment changed into what all the colors of different types of ribbons means.

    • sockandaphone

two very amazing items of clothing that are terrible wrong for each other.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Jessica-TallGirl-Freeman/1043623567 Jessica TallGirl Freeman

I thought this was down right horrific for HER body.  That shirt…can not be excused.  The skirt is too tight across her hips & the elastic waist band really cheapens it. The hose and the shoes are equally doing nothing for her.  Another gorgeous woman who seems to miss the mark regularly.

    • Kenisha Hill Phillips

I think she looks great from the waist down, but I cannot sign off on the turtleneck.

    • Little_Olive

How silly are those little buttons.

    • http://twitter.com/commish24 commish24

No. Sausage casing skirt and bondage ankle straps–no.

    • MarissaLG

I thought she looked amazing on TV but here, I do see how she’s looking a little…clunky. Still, a fine look overall.

    • TRSTL

Ok, I’ve scrolled down and read comments and while I don”t want to or can’t argue with some of the detailed critiques, I have to say I full on loved this last night and still love it today.  Are the proportions not to everyones taste? Perhaps Is the skirt length not everyones cup of tea? Yes, clearly. But I thought she looked so beatuful and sang so wonderfully that I can’t help but to feel the love.  I may have been influenced by the situation of her bond with the young children, all have lost loved ones to gun violence and dealt with tragedy.  Seriously, I was in tears and porportions be damned, she killed.  (So much more than the hair whipping frenzy later on…….)

    • Verascity

      NOT HER DRESS.

    • http://www.facebook.com/bert.keeter Bert Keeter

Everything Scott designs looks like “loving hands at home”!

    • PrunellaV

Those boobs are fighting for air.

    • Maluca

      That skirt. Those shoes. NO.

    • Zippypie

She just looks like she was pumped into this outfit with an industrial air hose.  She’s got a slammin’ bod and could have done so much better.  And the shoes…. ugh.

    • http://twitter.com/DuBey2 Marie Fessler

Every person at our SuperBowl party was saying: Wow! She’s lost even More weight! She looks great!
and, as every woman knows, that is enough said.  I didn’t notice her shoes on the tv, but loved all the rest.  In pictures its different, but for the thousands who were there, and many millions who didn’t see the buttons or ankles straps on TV,  I’m sure the Black and white was stunning.

    • http://twitter.com/Eovaai Eovaai

      Too tight.

    • libraangel

OMG, how many times am I scrolling down and gasping, not in a good way! (so far 3 times).ARRGH! I expected a nice black, gray skirt or black patterned or floral gown. I am so hummed because the girl looks good from head down – then the scary skirt. (Shoes o.k. I guess)

    • PeaceBang

That’s one of the worst tops I can remember — and although I don’t know what kind of bra works under leather, this one isn’t doing the job. The skirt could have been the basis of something fabulous but she cut herself into three pieces with this black and white choppiness. Those shoes are from the Land of Hiddy.

    • margaret meyers

She wears a shit-ton of makeup.  I love that top — I don’t care if it’s made of leather or some petro-chemical.  That is fierce.

    • barbarienne

That hair is not good. From the side it makes her look like nothing but jaw. She looks fine from the front.

I love the top. It looks to be doing her girls no favors, like maybe it’s too tight across the shoulders. But that may just be the poses she’s taking to hold the mic and control her column of air.

    • Lilak

Her singing was so painfully off-key, I didn’t notice anything at the time but the awful bangs.

    • ccm800

she looks like a chest of drawers come to life in Disney’s Beauty and the Beast.

    • amaranth16

I might be in the minority here, but if she lopped 6 inches off the skirt and lost the shoes, I would be all about this. I actually love the top and the crisp sailor-y buttons.  I don’t know, I dig that homegirl took a risk.

    • pookiesmom

      This is a bizarre outfit.

    • MissAmynae

This looked a lot cuter through the constant veil of tears I was shedding during the performance.  Between the kids, and remembering that she lost her mom, brother and nephew to gun violence…..can I give her poise and performance a WERQ? ’cause that’s some heavy stuff, man.

I don’t hate it, but could have gone up one size- just to be able to breathe better.

    • http://korilian.livejournal.com/ korilian

Oh for God’s sake. It’s a fitted top and a high waste skirt. You really shouldn’t be able to screw up that profile and yet she managed to look like a complete ass. The skirt is too long and too tight and the shirt  is just plain ridiculous. Just a simple fitted cotton turtle with some nice jewelry would have looked heaps better, but of course when you’re a celeb every peace has to be branded and designed to death.

    • Claudia Fernandes

      donald duck granny

    • littlemac8

Ha Ha Ha!  Did they wheel her out there on a dolly?  No way she could actually walk in that skirt!

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1401197785 Jennifer Peters-Ahnberg

      Booms.

    • lilibetp

I thought it was illegal to wear black hose with a white skirt.  ?  Or maybe I think it SHOULD be illegal to wear black hose with a white skirt.  It kind of screams “LOOK AT HOW GINORMOUS THIS SKIRT MAKES MY HIPS LOOK!” to me.

    • Alessia M

A leather turtleneck is definitely fetishwear. The neck on that thing makes mine itch. Also, I just looked it up and IT IS A BODYSUIT. Why is she torturing herself with this? It looks soooooo uncomfortable.

    • http://dorothydamage.wordpress.com/ Dorothy Damage

I would like this a lot more if the skirt was a-line. Or if it was a leather turtleneck shift. I love those shoes.

    • marilyn

The skirt did not work with everything else.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Trevor-Scott/569555595 Trevor Scott

I think she looks fab. The only thing I’m in the fence about is the thick T-trap on the shoes paired with that low hem but since she’s wearing dark stockings, I suppose they’re fine and they prevent her from being cut off at the ankle as they would have done otherwise. And for everyone fainting at how risque she’s being, I suggest you grab your smelling salts, because the only uncovered parts on her ENTIRE body are her hands and face. Honestly, get a grip.

    • http://twitter.com/lisledanielle Danielle Lisle

Love the skirt, but maybe a different fabric of turtleneck would have been better.

    • kathrineb

Does every female celebrity need to have long poofy 90s bangs now? Make it stop! Jennifer this hair does NOTHING for you!
Also I want to snip those ridiculous buttons off the skirt.

    • librarygrrl64

Haaaaaaate that top. Wrong for her, wrong for the event. I’m fine with the skirt and shoes.
