IN or OUT: Anne Hathaway in Chanel Couture

Posted on February 12, 2013

Despite not loving short dresses with trains, we think Miss Annie looks absolutely spectacular here:

Anne Hathaway attends the ‘Les Miserables’ Photocall during the 63rd Berlinale International Film Festival in Chanel couture.

Chanel Fall 2009 Couture Collection/Model: Nastasia Ohl (VIVA)

Probably our favorite look of hers since that Givenchy she wore that everybody but us hated. And since we’re somewhat used to being on the opposite side of conventional wisdom when it comes to her red carpet choices, we’re interested to know if anyone else out there in TV land agrees with us that she looks fantastic here. That navy blue looks fantastic on her and the dress is interesting and unusual for the red carpet. Like we said, we could do without the train, but that’s the only real complaint. The hair is… well, it’s doing about as good as it can, at the moment. The heavy eye makeup was the right choice. Basically, everything here (but the train) is working for us in a big way.

Rebuttals? Agreements?

Vote Now!

IN! Fabulous and unexpected!

OUT! Goofy and weird!

The kittens agreed with us that Amy Adams’ BAFTAs dress just wasn’t working, and voted it OUT.

i’m actually not all that opposed to the train. it looks lovely in that picture that caught her in motion. she looks pretty great here.

    • lovelyivy

I like the train, although I do wonder what it would look like if she was wearing nude tights or stockings instead of these black ones. I think they are doing funny things to the look.

      • Jecca2244

i almost think she needed the black stockings because the dress is so short.

    • Sobaika

The train is what sells it for me, to be honest. Otherwise she’d look pretty but too similar to the rest of her red carpet looks of recent.

    • JosephLamour

IN, for that picture alone. The dress did its job.

  • I’m so into the train.

  • Corsetmaker

Personally I think it needs the train to visually weight it down because that ruching on the dress makes it look like it’s climbing up her body. She looks great. It wouldn’t work on anyone with an ounce more flesh on their torso but it’s good on her. And the colour is gorgeous on her.

    •  I know, right?  Even the model looks like she has a little tummy in her photo!

      • That’s what surprised me, she looks great whereas the model looks like a pregnant peacock.

        • Tatiana Luján

The pregnant peacock remark made me spit my coffee with laughter.

        • I was going with pregnant lampshade.

      • Celandine1

I think it’s also been shortened by 1 tier on Ann which might help make it less puffy. It definitely looks better Ann and I say IN.

  • feeling a classy Carnaby Street vibe here. Don’t mind the long bangs with that image in mind.

  • hate the train, it looks really awful in the photo where it is trailing behind her like a Blanche Devereaux peignoir. But In for everything else.

  • IN. I think the hose matching the dress and train really evens the look out. (Also loved that Givenchy. Thought it was DRAMA in the best way.)

    • I loved the Givenchy, too, and I agree about the hose. 🙂

    • Airkisses

The train would be much more evidently TRAIN-y were it not for the hose.

    • Alyssa

Totally agree…the hose made a major impact on the look, and without them, I don’t think I’d like the look at all. And I liked the Givenchy as well!

  • msdamselfly

Hair and eye makeup are ridiculously ugly

    • judybrowni

I’m channeling my mother, “Get your bangs out of your eyes!”

      • kimmeister

I’m blinking like crazy just seeing her bangs in her eyes.  Ugh!

  • drdirection

that is a really weird dress

  • Love her hair here, and the eye makeup is gorgeous. I’m not a fan of short dresses with trains but that color is doing her all sorts of favors.

  • FrayedMachine

I actually do like it. The shot where she’s walking is quite pretty. It’s not a total fall in love head over heels with this look kind of feeling but still a thumbs up.

  • erinbinek

Love the dress, hate the hair.

  • Anathema_Device

I’ll vote in, even though I’m not digging the  “Anne with an A” hair.

ETA: Oops, for the Liza reference to be correct, it would have to be “Anne with a N”

    • Beardslee

       Or Anne with an E

  • IN.  I agree, she looks lovely.  I don’t love the train, but you talked about the look a lot more because of it than you would have otherwise, no?

  • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

In for the dress.  Out for hair and make-up.  Too Liza.

  • Love it, despite the hair. I almost wish she had worn that… “veil” thing, just to turn the drama dials up to 11. So I guess it’s an IN

  • Joyce VG

I really don’t like this whole look.  From top to bottom not flattering. OUT.

  • Reneesance

I like it! I gives her an in.

  • Yuck.  It would be fine without the train.

  • Girl_With_a_Pearl

She’s baaack.   Despite the overexposure up until recently and which seems to be starting up again, she does look rather fabulous.  And this is the first train I’ve seen that wasn’t on a wedding dress that I found interesting.

  • tired_mommy

Out. I can’t stand the train and feel a strong urge to sweep her bangs out of her eyes.

  • E. D.

IN, great color on her and I don’t mind the shoes.  I’m 50/50 on the train.

    • Agreed.  This looks great on her – even with the chancy train and the bridesmaids shoes.  IN!

  • DinahR

IN.  Love this look and I like the train, esp when she’s walking.  I hate the hair but I liked it the other day when the bangs were swept to the side, so it’s not the growing out of the cut.

  • AmeliaEve

IN – The doe eye makeup really pulls it together. The hair, the dark hose, and the shape of the dress are all, as someone else said, very Carnaby Street mod. Since she is stuck with the hair, might as well work it. The vaguely empire styling along with the mod touches make me think of Streisand in On a Clear Day You Can See Forever.

And I really like the train exactly because it is distinctly a separate bustle/train, and not some hideous hi-lo mullet skirt. Fun and interesting.

    • IN – Completely agree: gorgeous!

    • AmeliaEve

Revisiting this the next day I am getting kind of a super-hero cape vibe from the billowing train, making me love it even more.

  • OUT. Dress is not a flattering shape – makes her look puffy.

  • MilaXX

I see she’s channeling Liza now. It’s okay. I don’t care for the train and I wish  the pantyhose were sheer, but she is working the look so small IN.

    • mjude

i was thinking the same thing about Liza.  i too am giving her an IN.

  • BayTampaBay

    Out!  I hate the train.

  • IN, and like the ‘new’ hair. If I sat and really thought about it I might chang, but this is charming and ‘hinky’ as a friend used to say.

what about a hat with it? hmmm?

  • hmariec19

IN, but she needs a bang trim.

  • 4JJ

  • OUT.  I can’t with that hair.  Its making my eyes itch.  The train…what a terrible addition to a pretty busy dress.

  • Athenrein

    Love. In.

  • Out. Pooping fabric…

  • I like the dress and the look, do not like the train.

  • ringthing

    yep, IN minus the train.

  • IN IN IN! She looks amazing here. I even like the train personally.

  • uprightcitizen

I think the reason the train sort of works and doesn’t look as dumb as such dresses usually do is because she wore it with dark hosiery. The effect is less jarring and more cohesive. What’s with the model version, though? Is it supposed to be maternity gown?

  • Out! The eye makeup is heavy because look at those bags, and the dress is weird with bad hems. It’s sort of like what Benjamin wanted to make for Heidi on ProjRun last week, but it’s still a mess.

  • she has the body to actually look good in this edgy dress! but just her! hate the hair..

  • Terrah Bretherton

    Kris Jenner hair.

  • Annabelle Archer

In. Hack off the train and you have work of perfection.

  • n a

hate it- with a white hot passion…

  • Beardslee

IN.  Great color and detailing, and I even like the train.  She always looks happy in her clothes.

  • I think she looks striking, and I quite like the train in motion. IN.

  • IN!  There’s only a handful of women who can make a dress like this look good but she’s one of them.  I like the train, I think it would be bland without it.

  • Claudia Fernandes

  • n a

btw- not to pile on, but what’s going on with her skin? do you think just too many red carpets & heavy make up taking a toll?  she has always been so naturally gorgeous- but her skin looks really ruddy here- like rough and yellow-ish.  Annie take care of yourself, girl!

    • Rumor has it she is preggers (but ever lady star is the moment she gets married)…I think she looks pretty tired myself…

  • j_anson

    Yup. Totally fantastic. Clear IN.

  • IN. Absolutely gorgeous.

  • Julie Fountain

I think she looks fantastic. IN!

  • ashtangajunkie

In, despite the train. Hate the train. She looks 8 feet tall and chic as hell.

  • afabulous50

IN.  BTW – that is my exact haircut at this very moment…so, naturally I LOVE it.

  • Aly Light

Is it just me, or is she having a huge Liza Minelli moment?

I like it, because it’s decidedly different than what most starlets are wearing. IN.

  • Definitely In.  Even like the hair; could take or leave the train.

  • EEKstl

I’m going to give Annie an IN here because she truly does look fantastic.  But I HATE the train.

  • kschwarting

I hate to be the contrarian, but it’s an OUT for me.  I don’t like the shiny shoes, and something about where it hits on her leg bugs me–it isn’t as flattering as it should be.

  • fringebenefit

    100% IN!!!! Love the train.

  • I hate everything about this. If it didn’t have the train, she lost the 1920s chorus girl shoes, and the hair didn’t look like an 8th grade boy circa 1999, maybe there would be a chance it could work. Out out out.

  • Kyle Crawford

    AGREE !

  • LauraWL

If you had described this dress to me I would have said it sounded awful, the effect here is really beautiful. So IN for me. I think the dark hosiery and simple shoes helped this a lot. And her dark eyes are the right effect. Girl looks tired from all her traveling, so major props to looking so lovely and comfortable in this.

    • 3boysful

Agree.  Plus, I think the train allows her to get away with a dress that might otherwise be uncomfortably short.

  • Belvane

IN. The train makes it.  Uncle Karl does this well — there have been other dresses in his collections that show off the legs in front against a backdrop of train or longer skirt in the back. Chic and sexy without being “look at my legs” tacky.

  • Out, but only because of the hair. I just grew out a pixie cut, so I know how challenging it can be, but that hair is unacceptable on someone who makes more money in 5 minutes than I make in a year and has a team of people who are paid to make her look amazing.

  • Judy_S

IN, train and all. It seems like a completely impossible dress but she figured out how to do it.

  • Love it.  Navy and black are fabulous together.

  • kimmeister

OUT, not even based on the train.  Out mostly because:
    1. Bedazzled horizontal bands cause the dress to bunch up when she’s in motion.
    2. DTM bridesmaid shoes.

  • Nariya

Agreed with you 100%. I’m not a fan of the train, but I think she otherwise looks really good here.

  • rissa42210

In!  Fabulous and unexpected.  I might even be able to get behind the train (I am shocked at myself).  I think she looks like a couture peacock.

  • In. Like the mod vibe of length/shape, legwear. makeup and, yes, hair. W/flats and no train maybe would have been too literal but I’d love it.

  • twocee

Beautiful dress.  Cut. Your. Bangs.  Or something to get them out of your eyes.

  • filmcricket

Really hate the train, but a lower-case in because the rest of her looks faaaabulous, in a Judy/Liza kind of way. Please break out “Get Happy,” Annie.

  • IN. And don’t worry T Lo, I loved that Givenchy number, too.

  • Kristy Evans

I kind of like the train, it’s very dramatic. I am less sold on the tights and satin shoes combo, and I HATE her hair. But still, she’s IN, even if it’s a tepid one.

  • Jangle57

I think she looks pretty fabulous; while I’m not a fan of the train, without it, the dress would perhaps be too simple for the venue.  I like her hair and navy is definitely her color.  IN

  • Imasewsure

I’ll agree with our “pretty in motion” opinionaters here and go with IN since it looks so awesome in the movement shot but I hate trains

  • IN. I LOVE it.

  • Kathy_Marlow

Agreement on the train, I keep seeing the dress without it and loving it more.

  • B_C_J

I hate the whole look.   The hair is what I would expect if she sat in a convertible on her way to the market. The eye make up is ridiculously heavy and lands squarely in the territory of raccoon eyes. As for the dress, from the waist up it is interesting. Everything below the waist is atrocious. A short dress with a train is simply ludicrous. OUT!!

  • Rrroza

    Super, all of it! IN

  • Paola Quintero

IN- I like the train. But what is up with her hair? Is this her look forever?  Isn’t she going to let it grow?  Why is she keeping it short? She is not a short-hair girl.

  • altalinda

In, she’s pulling off this mullet dress.

  • golden_valley

Love the dress.  Can’t stand the hair in the eyes which is made even worse by the heavy eye makeup.

  • CeeQ

I agree – everything but the train works. But does the train push it into OUT territory?
I have no idea….how about IN up top and OUT for the train?
No? Geez. Um. I’ll say IN then =)

  • Zippypie

I have to go with an OUT.  Any of you Italians out there make braciole?  You roll up very thin pounded beef into rolls and wrap them multiple times with string?  Anne looks like a bedazzled navy version of braciole with a nightgown train attached.  When she walks, it’s even more sausagey.  I just can’t get behind it.

And what’s with the opaque tights a la Ms. Bug Eyes What’s Her Name – the chick with the blue eyes and the sitcom?  Sheer black stockings would have helped this.

Her hair looks cute with the long bangs sideswept on her forehead like the other day.  It’s too long for a bangs-front fringe and just looks like she badly needs a haircut.

She doesn’t look terrible but I’ve been very disappointed in her red carpet choices this awards season.

  • eowyn_of_rohan

IN.  I don’t love the train but it works well enough here.  I feel as if very few ladystars could wear this without looking totally goofy.

  • IN! And I agree wholeheartedly on the train thing….

  • ItchyInKentucky

When I first saw the train I thought of Edna Mode’s “No Capes, Darling” scene from “The Incredibles”.  Other than that… “In”.

  • PeggyOC

I’d like to give her an in, as everything is working but the train, but I cannot, in good conscience endorse any look that has a short skirt and a train. Out, on principle.

  • WintryMix

OUT for the hair alone. Is she attempting to re-create the veil effect from the runway with those bangs?

  • ojosazules

Her hair looks wretched and I just can’t with the train- out.

  • I like that train, despite the fact that I normally agree with you that they don’t belong with short dresses. This one is dramatic and seems to have a sense of humor. I know, it’s a piece of fabric and doesn’t LITERALLY have a sense of humor. Work with me.

  • VicksieDo

  • OUT. Don’t like the lumpiness of the tiers, although I love the top tier. HATE the train. Unforgivable. Don’t like the black tights either.

  • steelglow

Something about the train, particularly in motion, makes this look a bit like supervillain lingerie. I’m not entirely sure whether that is a positive or a negative.
    IN, though. She looks great.

  • DaringMiss

The combover hair is silly looking, the raccoon eye is aging and the train is pointless and artless.

Are you guys getting enough sleep?

  • RebeccaKW

In.  I love it all, even the train.  It works here.

  • Her legs look great! Its IN for me, quite quirky and interesting dress and she is rocking it!

  • formerlyAnon

    In. What y’all said.

  • Eva_baby

OUT.  I hate this dress.  Looks like she has a butt cape.

  • warnerave

IN…altho she’s getting in my nerves lately with her fake acceptance speeches and stuff, it’s still an IN!

  • Jessi03

In!  And I actually like the Liza in Cabaret hair.

  • Monday1900

Out!  Weird dress that looks unfinished, bangs in her face.  Not a good look.  I’m getting worried about what she’ll wear to the Oscars based on her recent outings (but I’m sure she’s had Valentino working on the dress for the last 18 months so it will be spectacular).

  • DTLAFamilies

What woman in their right mind wants a dress with bands that emphasize the lower stomach pooch? Even a woman as thin and tall as Anne can’t pull this off. OUT.

  • Janet B

    The total look is amazing.

  • kolokOlchik

I will give her a pass on the hair because I also grew out a pixie cut a few years ago and know how awkward it gets sometimes.
    She looks gorgeous

  • IN: the hair is right, the makeup is right, and she’s wearing the dress not the other way around.

  • LaSylphide

Like the whole look, including the train. In.

  • Stubenville

The makeup is nice, the hair cute. Unfortunately the mullet hem dress is a disaster. She looks idiotic when she walks.

  • maggiemaybe

I think it’s adorable. And I’m loving the Liza hair too…

  • oldbobbydraper

out. trim the hair, lose the tights, get a different dress.

  • Gorgeous, top to bottom. It’s such a stunning, memorable look. Big ol’ IN.

  • Nancy Dunn

I like everything but the train, also. But the train makes it an OUT for me. I just can’t see beyond it!!!

  • IN!! I think this is fabulous. The only reason why the train doesn’t make my eye twitch is because she was smart enough to wear dark tights/hose.

  • jilly_d

Terrific – IN. This is how you do black tights.  Zooey Deschanel, I hope you’re taking notes.  I even kind of like the hair.

  • elephantasmagoric

Apart from my all-encompassing hatred for that haircut… I really don’t like the silhouette of the dress. It seems to bubble in each section. And the train is a pretty hideous fabric growth.

  • sweetlilvoice

Love it. I have bangs and I bet her’s are driving her crazy right now.

  • Ruth Preston

My only quibble is the choice of legwear. Something a little more sheer, maybe?

  • halleyg

I only like the last pic, where you can’t see her hose or the weird train. Not wild about the hair in her eyes though. Mostly OUT.

  • kelsita421

I’m not making a “yuck” face, so she must be IN!

  • IN It’s dramatic and looks lovely on her. Good hair and makeup for her too. Yes all around.

  • Eclectic Mayhem

  • OUT. That train needs to go to a cold dark place and die. Otherwise, the dress is cute.

  • luciaphile

Since I am unable to reach in and cut off the train, this is an OUT for me.

  • Judy_J

Call me provinicial, but I’m not on board with this.  In that photo where she’s walking and the train is billowing out, it looks like 1950’s lingerie.  All she needs is those mules with the little pom-pom on the toe.  OUT.

  • In

  • frannyprof

IN. The more I look at it, the more I love it.

  • AuntJentie

Out…dress too goofy and can’t stand the bangs in her eyes.

  • Sara__B

    IN. She looks great.

  • Trisha26

OUT. The “dress” is too short. The train is weird. Love a heavy bang (boom) but this just looks shaggy.

  • IMNAngryLiberal

IN — if she didn’t have on the dark tights, the train would probably drive me to distraction, but as it is I think she looks great….and honey, you can step right over here.  Mama has scissors and she will cut that nasty train right off…because the dress would be spectacular without it.

  • teensmom99

It’s not just IN–it’s a WERQ. And the train is great because it’s so unexpected on this dress.  It helps to have her never-quit legs.

  • Jacqueline Wessel

IN…the dark tights are working overtime to make that train work.

  • IN – For the hair alone not biting at my ankles. I do wish that the there was no train, or the effect went all the way ’round.

  • allj

Goofy and fabulous? I want to hate it, but I kind of love that billowy train. It looks kind of crazy, but girl is making a statement. And I love her hair and makeup here.

  • I think the dark hose helps with the train. IN!

  • slightlybitterkitten

    Girl looks beat.

  • Sorry, I can’t agree, I think she looks like she’s going to a goth funeral.  OUT.

  • I really really hate the train. Chop it off and she looks great. But I really hate it. OUT.

  • NDC_IPCentral

    Train = peignoir.

It is a super color, though.  I’m on the fence.

  • LilyPad

OUT. I really don’t like what it’s doing to her shape and I really REALLY don’t like the mullet dress, but I agree that the color and her makeup are spectacular.

  • gabbilevy

In. I sort of hate it when I look at each bit individually, but the whole look is dramatic and striking, and if that isn’t Fashion with a capital F, I don’t know what is.

  • ConnieBV

    Take note, Zooey.

  • She looks Liza Minnelli fierce. I’d give her an IN.

  • Nonmercisansfacon

Jaysus no. The train, the hair, the makeup, the tights with that train! Out.

  • fursa_saida

    Love it.

  • stubbornthoughts

IN. This is unexpected and she is rocking the shit out of it. LOVE the makeup.

  • GorgeousThings

I’ll give her an IN*. If it weren’t for the train, I’d take the asterisk away.

  • Mightiadd

An OK look but the original model had a longer skirt  with three “tiers” below the waist.  Hathaway must have asked for a shorter skirt and now the proportions are off.  Also, a bit more structure in the lining of the skirt would have prevented that awful Michelin tire effect.  This is haute couture and the fit should be impeccable. Every couture house employs at least one vendeuse (usually more), an elite saleswoman who looks after the client, and coordinates all the different the crafts that make a couture outfit.  They are also responsible for making sure the end product looks great on the client, to protect the reputation of the couture house.  Chanel should have made sure that Anne’s appearance in this dress upheld their reputation as one of the very best.  Not quite.

  • Carleenml

  • IN! Though I am loving that instead of a veil, we’re using our overlong bangs, Ms. Hathaway.

  • Cynica

    Fantastic. Love it all.

  • IN for all the wrong reasons! IN IN!

  • aykhan

IN! I have mixed feelings about the train, but the rest is pretty spectacular.

  • bitchybitchybitchy

I’ll give Ms. Hathaway an IN here. I like the dark hose/tights with this look, as I think it keeps the short dress from looking ridiculous with the long train.

  • OUT.  Just because she bugs me right now.  Not only does she have the Liza ‘do but she’s also channeling Liza/Judy in her acceptance speeches.  Enough!

  • In! The train transforms a cute dress into a red carpet confection… and isn’t the red carpet all about impractical fantabulousness? The navy is a sophisticated color and the dark stockings and shoes balance the train, giving a columnar shape. I love the hair and the makeup is perfect for those Caraby Street bangs!

  • thecitysleeps

In.  I love this look.  I especially love the black tights somehow.  They go with the short skirt/long train look.

  • lalahartma

It’s fabulous!  I love it all.

  • MzzPants

  • crash1212

IN. And I love what they did with her hair for this look – it’s perfect. I don’t even hate the train…at least it’s a kind of interesting train when it moves. LOVE.

  • cleverlady

THe only part of this that I like is the color.    Everything else is awful! IMHO. Sheer-ish, shirred,  ruffled, TIGHTS, Cleopatra wrapping…. and the train!
    Sorry I don’t get it.
I do like her hair and makeup…

  • alwaysanswerb

Completely IN for me. She looks amazing.

  • CatherineRhodes

  • leftcoastpickle

  • In! the train is making it work – different and dramatic.  Her makeup is fab, what’s letting us down is the accessories.  Shoes and jewelry need to be fiercer, I would have goth-ed it up a bit.

  • trisker

I LOVE the navy, but otherwise I’d say OUT — the dress is just too weird for anybody.

  • I hate that train with all of my heart.  But cut that out – spectacular.

  • MintaHallWriter

I agree. She looks gorgeous. IN-IN-IN.

  • I can’t. OUT.

  • MissAmynae

    blergh, whatever. In, I guess.

can we just roll our eyes to her Oscar speech and move on? I’m more exhausted by her than I was by Emma Stone. Go away for a little while, dear. Enjoy your new hubby somewhere pretty and away from the paps, then come back with the inevitable baby bump.

    But trim your bangs first.

  • decormaven

I like the way the hair is styled, and that’s an interesting eye treatment. The jewelry is a bit subdued; I’d like to have seen a little larger earring. No major complaints, though.

  • Big IN. The dark stockings are what’s making it work. Take note, Zooey: This is how it’s done.

  • L.

IN – except for the shoes

  • IN, but for me I think it would look better without the train.

  • prettybigkitty

I’m not feeling it for some reason.  It all seems too matchy, heavy and out of proportion.  OUT.

  • Are you kidding? The train is the only thing that lifts this from the “dress I can buy at Dillards” level.

  • Cousin_Rose

    Out. Looks like a nightgown.

  • In.  I’m afraid to admit that I kinda like it.

  • Lilithcat

I do think it would be better without the train, but the sheer, dark hose and sheer train make this an IN.

  • Lisa M. (ReVoir) Kramp

Yes it’s weird. But it really, really works. In.

  • IN. Zooey Deschanel, take note: THIS is when to employ the black tights.

  • neofashionista

Peacocks are unacceptable at a photocall

  • LOVE the hair, LOVE the makeup, LOVE THE DRESS…. not a fan of the Zooey tights.  Thinking that a pair of black hose (not tights) would have been better.  I dig the bizarre train!

  • nannypoo

Are you joking? It’s hideous and her hair has never looked worse.

  • Emily Roach

In! It definitely grew on me.

  • Airkisses

The look is eye-catching and she looks cute! In!

In other news… Chanel 2009 is practically vintage! No wonder the design stands out on the red carpt.

  • peachy

  • Sweetpea176

Out.  I think it’s a goofy looking dress with or without the train.   I love her with short hair — I wish she wouldn’t grow it back out!

Love her in Chanel – in!

  • NYCGlamourpuss

I love the color, and I love the dress itself.  I just hate the train, and I hate what she’s done with her hair.  I really hope she’s keeping it short, because it’s just so cute on her.  But those bangs look suspiciously like a “grow out”.

  • WittyCism

    IN!  Loved it!

  • Mary229

I agree.  This is the best she has looked in a long time.

  • Hetha Innis

Couldn’t agree more! She looks freaking fabulous. I loved the Givenchy as well.

  • Tigerfly

Absolutely IN – she looks amazing!

  • pookiesmom

I love this so so much. IN.

  • guest2visits

I like what she’s doing with her hair in relation to the dress, the eye’s as well.  I think the train was a poor addition to the dress –
it doesn’t make it fresh or trendy, it makes it frumpy.

  • MRC210

I feel like I shouldn’t like this dress because I’m so against the mullet and yet I love it.  In.

  • in with the train

  • bailey debruynkops

    IN of course

  • Pterodactyl111

  • Call me Bee

I love this to death!  IN!

  • FridaStaire

Justin Bieber hair! Wish the dress was longer and no train.

  • samo_samo

IN…not a big fan of trains, but this dress looks great on her. She looks great head to toe.

  • slyvia

All i can see is LIZA MINNELLI (which, hey, isn’t such a bad thing)

  • jw_ny

IN, as long as I can choose to ignore the train too  😉 Everything else with this look works great.

I also loved her in the Givenchy couture…

  • demidaemon

I think this is a moving dress and not a standing still dress. In all the still shots, the train looks especially awkward. But, when she moves, it comes to life. Just for that, IN.

  • butterflysunita

    OUT for the bangs alone.

  • MaryAtRealityTea

Out. It looks like a 5th grader playing dress-up in a fairy costume. The hair is just SO ridiculous. I want to reach through the computer and brush it out of her eyes.

  • Out. It makes me itch around the neck and shoulders just to look at it.

  • AnnPopovic

Her makeup looks decidedly unattractive in the far away pics. Looks better close up but still nyah. The dress looks okay when she’s standing still but that pic of her walking instantly brings to mind walking out of the bathroom with toilet paper trailing off y’er shoe. So…yeah. Out.

  • KatrinaAtienza

Agree! Dramatic and dark and high-impact. Love the train even.

  • mila_8

    It’s just so…fuzzy. Especially around the armpit. I can’t…out!

    • l_c_ann

Out, because the scraggly parts (fuzzy is almost too kind a word for them) may scratch delicate skin and look both unfinished and incorrectly dry cleaned.

  • subwaycars

I’m not super in love with her hair here (it was much cuter at the BAFTAs) and I hate the train, but I’ve really loved almost all of her recent looks (including the Givenchy!) so IN.

  • m0r0

Hate this one but loved the other. I think. Couldn’t check because you didn’t provide a link.

  • I’m trying to picture this without the train… I still hate the hair too much, to say it’s In. And the dress (in the side profile shot of her walking) looks like it doesn’t move properly.

  • IN. She wears it like that is the runway. <3

  • IN! I’m loving this look!

  • Kirsten Kirsten

Hair, face, dress, train, legs, shoes: all magnificent. IN

  • Verascity

Nope. Loathe the hair and makeup, loathe the dress in every moving shot. OUT.

  • She looks really cute here.  Very interested in seeing how her hair grows out, though. IN.

  • conniemd

In. I kinda like the train, surprisingly. She looks good.

  • Merneith

Out. The hair’s ok – we’ve all been there – but the train is just ugh. Would have been an IN otherwise.

  • MarissaLG

So Chanel! I’m conflicted with this one because she looks beautiful. The color is fantastic on her and I love her hair and makeup. If I was just judging the dress itself I think I would give it an out, but judging the complete package she gets an IN from me.

  • kategs

    So very in.

  • She looks good. I hate the train, and to quote the Kluminator “it looks like she’s pooping fabric!”

  • RedRaven617

In. Not a big fan of trains, but I like it.

  • IN. She be werqing some Liza-couture realness.

  • tereliz

IN! It’s Berlin and she’s getting her Liza on. They are eating that shit up, I’m telling ya!

  • Such a pretty girl.  And I continue to adore her hair.

  • littlemac8

OUT for the lumpy toga dress with netting trailing behind her.  OUT for hair that is combed forward – not becoming.  LOVE the color and love it on Anne but not enough to save it from being OUT!

  • barbarienne

The woman (and her stylist) know what looks good on her, for damn sure. The train is just odd enough to be creative without being overwhelming and silly. I even don’t mind the fringy/frayed edges, because the whole thing is proportioned so well.

I’m not keen on her hair like that, but I will say that for this dress, it is a very good choice.

  • bluefish

IN!  She looks great.  The stockings make all the difference in diminishing the potential tackniness of the train.  And it’s a lovely train at that, which helps.  So, yeah, fabulous.

  • RocknRollmom

IN—I love it all.  It is all put together so well and she looks amazing.  Smart  move on someone’s part to shorten the dress in light of how it makes the model look like she is wearing a maternity dress.

  • First time Commenting here, I’m going to go with an In, I love the way she looks here and while I usually hate these kind of trains I think this one works. The color is the best thing about the look though, it looks fabulous on her.

  • enonymous

    She looks absolutely smashing!

Plus I LOVE the hair and makeup. Looks like Liza and Audrey had a baby.

  • siriuslover

IN. Love the color, love the flow of that train when she walked, love the hair, however shaggy.

  • JP

Great until you get to the mullet hemline. That’s atrocious enough for an OUT from me.

  • SophieCollier

    IN.  I love it!

  • Jessica O’Connell

I hate the train on paper but can’t deny that she looks great here. In fact, despite how much I hate when someone’s hair is in their eyes like that, I kind of love it on her. Love the eye makeup and the color looks great on her. IN.

  • Candigirl1968

I don’t like the train except when it’s in motion.  Perhaps the real problem is that the front is so short that the whole things seems to lack balance.

  • librarygrrl64

OUT. Would have been in without the train.

  • ccm800

LOVED the Givenchy. Like this very much. Is she going to play Liza soon?

  • Louise Bryan

    In.  She looks pretty fabulous.

  • Dear Anne,

Please, for the love of all that is fashionably holy, send Zoe Deschannel a pair or two of the brand of tights you are wearing.  She could use a new pair.  Thank you!

  • I’m really only opposed to the legwear and that shoe.  That shoe is killing me.

  • Sarah Hankins

Ugh I really think her short hair makes her look ridiculous.  And I usually love short hair.
