IN or OUT: Amy Adams in Elie Saab Couture

Posted on February 11, 2013

People say we’re too hard on Miss Amy, so we’re turning this one entirely over to y’all.

Amy Adams attends the 2013 BAFTA Awards in an Elie Saab couture gown paired with Casadei sandals and Fabergé jewelry.

Elie Saab Fall 2012 Couture Collection/Model: Sigrid Agren  (ELITE)

But in the interests of never being able to keep our mouths shut when we have an opinion…

We don’t mind a sexy black gown on her, but we really don’t like the shape and placement of the sheer parts, and that beading looks a bit fungal to us. Also: her hair’s a MESS.

But go ahead. Tell us we’re big meanies.

Vote Now!

IN! She looks FINE, you nitpickers.

OUT! Sloppy, funereal and aging. I’m with you on this one, T Lo.

Heidi Klum’s latest “I still got it” gown was voted OUT by the Bitter Kittens, who felt it highlighted the areas where she doesn’t quite got it like she used to.

  • Sally Brownson

    OUT. No kidding about fungal.

  • Sobaika

IN. She’s doing something different and looks very pretty. The hair is terrible and matronly, the earrings don’t quite go, but I am willing to overlook these quibbles.

    • I hate it. But she looks good?  In I guess.

    • DinaSews

I agree with you.  She is doing something different which is so much better than what she has been doing! IN for me too.

    • RebeccaKW

Same here.  The only thing I REALLY don’t like is the hair. In.

  • twocee

Fungal is a perfect description.  Out

  • her dress seems to be dissolving. out.

  • BrooklynBomber

I think the proportions aren’t perfect on her, but I like that it’s not precious or girly. But I’m always critical of her, so, grading on the curve, it’s a definite IN.

    • kolokOlchik

      Same here.  IN

  • rahrahbowbow

OUT.  I thought she was Nicole Kidman at first.  Not that Nicole is ugly, but Amy is younger and (hopefully) hasn’t messed with her face as much.  It all just looks too serious…

  • PeggyOC

    Out.  Fungal, ill-fitted and ill-conceived.

  • Jenna621

OUT.  This does nothing for her at all.

  • afabulous50

IN – if I could vote OUT for the hair alone, I would.

  • OUT. That gown makes her look hippy and the proportions do not work well on a shorter woman. The hair is unfortunate; As if she let the cat nose around in her hair before she left the house.

  • Fungal! Haha. Oh man, that is accurate. I think it just sort of overtakes her…like fungi. It is close, but doesn’t quite do it for me. Out.

  • Scott Isaacs

Sloppy, funereal and aging, I’d say, nails this one perfectly.

  • Zippypie

OUT.  This woman does not know how to not dress frumpy.  And those modern style earrings with such an old fashioned lace…. it does not work, Amy.

  • OUT.  The sheer area is just unflattering.  And I just can’t embrace the center slit.

    • SassieCassy

at least she is not doing the jlo/jolie LOOK AT MY LEG pose.

      • Meg0GayGuys6

I really don’t understand that whole stick the leg out thing. As if there was any doubt they still had legs.

        • barbarienne

Seriously. If a woman (or heck, a man) has good gams and wants to show them off, a short skirt is always an option. Heck, if the venue really requires a gown or train, even a mullet skirt would be better than the leg-out pose.

          • A slit can be sexy, but only because the excellence of said gams are demonstrated through fleeting, casual glimpses through the moving slit. You show off your legs, and yet you don’t. J.Lo and A.Jo seem to want to show off their legs, period, in the obvious way of the miniskirt and not the teasing way of the slit. They could have made that easier for themselves, and us, by going for the miniskirt.

However, slits should, with very, very few exceptions, be placed to the side and not at the center of the dress. I marvel at how quickly “look at my legs” can become “look at my inner thighs”.

  • filmcricket

Hmm, this is tough. I think her head looks amazing, but I’m not sold on the dress. I don’t mind the hair at all – this is the British Oscars, it’s a formal occasion. And those earrings are to die, and I say that as someone who’s not too fond of pink. Still, that dress. Lower-case out, I think.

  • Annabelle Archer

Out. Fungal funeral with a flash of flesh is an alliterative fail.

  • makeityourself

Out.  Fungal and confusing. But she would have looked beautiful in Katy Perry’s green column.

  • beebee10

Out out out! oh god, poor thing.

  • I just can’t… The wide sheer parts on the front of the dress make it look like she’s wearing it backwards. Out!

  • charlotte

I agree with your quibbles (seriously, why do so many dresses have fungal elements?) and dogpile hair isn’t better than mermaid hair, but I vote her IN because for some reason she still looks good. Grading on a scale here…

    • Tatiana Luján

I can’t explain why I think she looks great in this ugly dress, with an ugly hairdo when with better clothes and hairstyles, I’ve thought she looks bad.

  • Jangle57

The dress isn’t the worst thing I’ve ever seen (see Adele’s dress), but I think the hair really drags it down and the earrings are only providing a washed out pop of color.   I’m going to side with TLo on this one; it could have been so much better with better styling.  OUT

  • SassieCassy

i cant stop seeing  FUNGUS after you pointed it out but my initial instinct said ‘in’ and amy is so in need of a fashion bump that i will give it to her.

  • Cloveradams

Burlesque queen trying to tamp it down (a tad) at a funeral.

    • Kayceed

Seriously, can we talk about the slit cut all the way up to her nether regions? Holy hoo-ha! And the makeup just looks tired and faded, not fabulous at all.

  • MissMariRose

I’m not fond of the sheer panels on the hips, but I love Elie Saab so much I’m giving her an IN.

  • I don’t like it at all.  OUT for me!  It make her shoulders and hips look wide and makes her look extremely flat chested…Her hair does look sloppy.  But I love her earrings!  🙂

  • butterflysunita

I looked at the photo and wanted to be kind….but all I could see was mold growing on her chest.  Maybe it’s Elie Saab’s fault, and not hers, but still OUT.

    • decormaven

And who wants a moldy bosom? Another OUT recorded.

      • MRC210

And is that a white lace bra I can see under the bodice?  or veins? or … mold?  So out.

  • hmariec19

    OUT. It looks icky.

  • Tatiana Luján

In. I agree with your criticisms, but I still think she looks great.

  • Carla_Charlton

Sadly, an OUT, but not with such strong words as you’ve used.  She is really, really pretty — her face looks great — but the dress just doesn’t fit her very well and super high slits are, in my opinion, always a little tacky.

  • To me the beading looks more like when Venom (The black costume symbiote) takes over Peter Parker.  But then again I’m a comic book geek.

  • suzq

    1. The fit is bad.  It’s twisting to the right even when she’s standing straight and still.
    2. The sequin doo-dads look cheap, not clever.
    3. The lace is snaggy.  Maybe that’s intentional, but it comes out looking like something my cat scratched up.
    4. The slit is too damn high.
    5. You can’t tell me those side lace/sequin patches didn’t snag anything and everything within two feet of that dress. By the end of the evening, she probably had tufts of lint from the red velvet chairs stuck to her gown.

  • StellaZafella

    Really looks like it itches…

    I mean the dress.

  • joancarol

There’s got to be a better way.

  • zenobar

The pink gems in her earrings really bring out the wayward nipple.

  • Janet B

If the bodice fit, was lined and didn’t have the fungal bits it would have been very pretty.  Out.
    Love her earrings.

  • LongTall_Sally

OUT!  I agree with “sloppy, fungal and aging”, but I’d like to add “fussy” to the list.

  • The longer I look at it, the less I like it, so I’m gonna hurry up and give Ms. Adams an ‘in’.

  • schadenfreudelicious

the overall visual effect makes her look wide which of course she is not…that slit is also much too high, the earrrings are an in but the rest is an OUT

  •  IN! it’s different for her and i think she looks good – i love a little goth action on the red carpet.

  • LOLOLOL at the fungal.   Priceless!

I think hair like that is really incongruent with fresh-faced, more natural makeup.  If you’re going to wear a bun like that, spray the shit out of it, do cat-eye mascara and dramatic lips and just be a drag queen about it.

  • FoxInSocks

Out. She looks like she’s about to turn into Venom. And the way the neckline is crunched down (vs the model where it just appears to sheer out) makes an unflattering line.

  • alinana

I really do not understand this fade of slits up to womens’ hoohaaas.I have no interest in seeing whether you’ve shaved or not.

  • lilibetp

The earrings are pretty.  Everything else is a no-go.  Out.

  • carolynmo

Out! This isn’t flattering to her at all! I wish she could get it right; she’s lovely. Aggghhhh.

  • Lois Cameron

Even though I’d call this an OUT, I have to say: Ms Adams sure does know how to pick a fierce pair of earrings.

  • AceOn6

OUT. The top would work without the waist cutouts and the slit, but the combo is just too much.

  • Meh. Not horrible, but the top of that dress makes her shoulders look way wider than they really are. Out.

  • IN – not flawless but a big improvement on several of her other looks. I particularly like that her hair is up to show off the killer earrings.

  • Out. It’s an odd dress. It looks like it doesn’t fit her, but then it looks like it doesn’t fit the model either. Those sheer sections aren’t good for ANYONE.

  • puffalumps

OUT on the bunched up black lace and the shiny black gewgaws. That dress looks like its attacking her like a flesh eating bacteria.

  • B_C_J

WOW! She looks amazing. The dress is marvelous, balancing ladylike good taste with sensuality. I even like the hair and the beautiful earrings.  She is a showstopper.  IN!!!!

  • It manages to look trashy and matronly all at the same time. OUT.

    Killer earrings, though!

  • Katherine Alexander

She looks like she’s covered in spider webs. No. No. No.

  • mjude

oh dear OUT.  i didnt recognize her.

  • ConnieBV

I just saw her photographed for Interview’s Hollywood yearbook and CHRIST, she is stunning. I didn’t even know she was that beautiful  the way she always manages to throw herself a curve. She needs a (new?) stylist.

  • unbornfawn

I’ll give her points for not kicking her leg out of the slit. She is beautiful but this look doesn’t make the most of her beauty. This look is more for a statuesque sexpot and she looks uncomfortable. She could use a little more coverage, something a bit softer and she needs to stop pulling her hair back so tight on the red carpet. She needs to soften up and relax her look a little. OUT

  • Aww, I think she gets points for trying — this is not in her comfort zone.  Still, I want to sew up the top three inches of that slit and yes, fungus beads.  OUT.  Sorry, honey.

  • Martha Deutsch

OUT. Can’t tell if it’s the dress or her, but it is just not working at all.

  • I think the top part borders on vulgar, and I love a good booby dress. But OUT!

  • gabbilevy

In, grading on a curve. Love seeing her step outside her comfort zone.

  • kimmeister

Out.  The original, already-unflattering neckline has gotten bunched up on her and has created an even MORE unflattering straight-across neckline.  And even though it’s not skin-tight and has dainty elements, I find it vulgar, like vulgar dressed up in widow’s clothing.

    Nice earrings, though.

  • greyhoundgirl

OUT.  Ewww.  I thought at first it was a blouse tucked into some really long pants.  Doesn’t seem right, somehow.

  • Pants_are_a_must

OUT. This is not her dress. I’m not sure this is even Charlize Theron’s dress, to be frank.

  • OUT.  Hiddy and cheap-looking.  She clearly doesn’t have a stylist because her way of dressing has absolutely no consistency.

  • RedRaven617

  • hellkell

OUT. Hair, makeup and jewelry are OK. Dress is tacky, and that slit is making my head hurt.

  • MilaXX

small IN. I’m sick of black lace, but this is okay. What I do like is everything from the neck up. I like the messy bun, the makeup and earrings.

  • Jessi03

    Noooooo!  Out.

  • She looks statuesque.  IN.  But I do think she is capable of much, much more.  I feel like she always errs on the side of too reserved, like her greatest fear is dressing too sexy.

  • l_c_ann

She kept the hoochie mama front slit and forgot her nip camoflage. The potential WAS there, but ……….

  • Ew eww ewwwwwwww!  OUT.  Sexy black lace just doesn’t go on her.  She is so Girl Next Door pretty that she should play that up in her Red Carpet looks, not try to give Fergie a run for her money.

  • Belvane

She gets a pass on the hair because of the weather — flawless is too much to ask when you’re working a red carpet in a sleet storm. But the dress is a bit too Raquel Welch.

  • I will give her a pass on the hair – it looks to be raining out and sometimes no matter how hard you try hair frizzes.  But that dress – yuck – its doesn’t even look good on the 6 foot tall model.

  • appliquer

Out. Do like the earrings, however.

  • Out!

  • thelovelydove

I have to give this an OUT. I want to like this look, but her hair and the earrings just ruin it for me. And the proportions of the gown are off. I feel that choosing a look like this is a step in the right direction though.

  • At least she didn’t do an Angie pose with that slit..

  • fringebenefit

Love her, hate the dress. OUT.

  • Pterodactyl111

Out. I would have liked it without the big slit up the front. Also, hair glitter is only okay for gymnasts.

  • Veronica1022

She needs a goregous short hair cut.  She has the bone structure for a bob or even a non-twee pixie, but the long hair on her is tired.  Why even bother having it, if it either looks stringy or its either up in the type of pony-tail or bun that suggests that the wearer has either just finished cleaning her bathroom, or is going to CVS for pain killers after a root canal.

  • Love the earrings and that’s about it. Would it kill her to put on some freakin’ eye shadow? She looks about ten years older here.

  • OrigamiRose

IN.  She looks gorgeous and confident.  I want those earrings.

  • Judy_J

    I’m a meanie, too.  OUT.

  • Call me Bee

This is one of those dresses that sounds good on paper but turns out to be a mess.  It could be inproved so may ways:  Choose a slit or a train, together they look awkward.  The sheer part in the bodice is a titch too wade–bring it in and let the fabric cve her boobs rather than the fungal-looking lace.  Lose the belt and fit it better at the waist.
Then it would be an In.  But as it is–OUT.  Love her shoes though–much better than the model’s.

  • m0r0

Doesn’t work on her. Don’t know why she picked it.

  • ChaquitaPhilly

Hate the hair. Don’t mind the fungal dress but REALLY hate the slit skirt.
How did that get to be such a boring popular bit of apparel.

  • No  honey, no. I can picture Queen Helen of Fukingfantastica rocking this, but not you.

  • 4JJ

You may or may not be meanies, but you’re right. The makeup isn’t great either, though the earrings are pretty.

  • I don’t like the shape; it even obliterates the model’s silhouette. I am not in love with it, so out.

  • alyce1213

You are too hard on her, but not this time.  This sparkly/lacy thing is dull as dishwater.  She needs color.
I hate big buns and I know why.

  • luciaphile

Oy. This would be an OUT. Not a good look on her at all!

  • another_laura

After going back and forth, I’m going with Out.  Pet peeve is that as freaking usual, the dress is too much for an itty bitty actress and hasn’t been appropriately fitted or modified.  They’ve rolled the neckline down?  sheesh.  Check the shoulders, bodice and neckline is supposed to look, via the runway.  And then the hair, it is not good.

  • Jessica Rowe

OUT.  I feel like this is both vulgar and aging.  Hard to be, but there it is.

  • frannyprof

IN. She’s channeling Nicole Kidman and it’s working for her.

  • Merneith

Out. The neckline is all wrong for her short neck/broad shoulders. The unfitted bust, the nonexistent waist and the tacky as hell slit are all just sad.

  • conniemd

in. Love the dress. Hair and make-up not so much.

  • lrober03

OUT, it looks like her breasts are being devoured.  Love her earrings though

  • LauraWL

It looks dreamy and romantic and her make up is picture perfect. I vote IN. I even like the effect with the earrings and hair. However, way too much sparkle in your hair girl!

  • Out, not a good look.  Her hair and makeup makes her look matronly and tired.

  • peachy

    OUT. too Dynasty.

  • kschwarting

That is one unflattering dress on her.  And girl, that is not your hairstyle.

  • Love the dress and jewelry, but her make up is non existent, and her hair is after yoga hair, when it’s nasty and sweaty and all you want to do it get it off your neck and face.

    So… Out I guess.

  • Mazenderan

Out.  The dress is very unflattering and makes her seem very square-shaped.  I didn’t like her hair, as it managed to combine tightly scraped back + big poufy updo, neither of which looked good.

I’d have like to have seen her in something the colour of her earrings.

  • T.Lo, I know you have masses on your plates at the moment & probably won’t get around to Grammy’s fashion for days, but when you do, please address my concerns about Justin Timberlake’s socks.

  • MGMcD

Lovely dress but the styling makes her look 15 years older than she is. Tragic hair.

  • Oh Amy. I love you but WHY do you keep doing this to yourself? You are adorable and wee and this dress is just too much for you. It’s also tacky as hell.

    Sadly, OUT.

  • Rrroza

OUT. Everything you said. Also: that slit makes me really nervous. Noooooo.

  • Beardslee

    out.  no no no.

  • Stubenville

    Morticia-of-a-certain-age. Out.

  • Dot

That dress is just awkward as hell.

  • Morticia Addams.

  • IN. Hair’s a tad frizzy but not bad, slit’s a little high, but overall the effect is good. Better than usual.

  • Imasewsure

I was going to say that I didn’t think it was bad enough to be an out, then I scrolled up again and looked at closer shots of her hair, and that bodice and it’s an OUT all the way for me.

  • She raided Helen Mirren’s closet.  Again.

  • OUT. The sheer bits are awkward and the dress doesn’t appear to fit her.

  • OUT. They lost me at the see through lace cut outs over her hips. No girl.

  • VicksieDo

She gets an IN from me on the earrings alone!

  • EEKstl

IN, even though I agree with most of what you said.  Hair is a mess and yes, the dress has issues but I love the neckline and silhouette on her, and love the earrings.

  • BuffaloBarbara

There’s something screwy about the shape, but it’s the slit right down the middle of the front that’s bugging me.  I’ve seen it on other dresses, so I’m guessing it’s a thing, but it looks just terrible.  Move the slit around ninety degrees, then tailor the dress instead of smacking that unflattering belt on it.  Then we’ll deal with the sheers and fungals.

  • Kathy_Marlow

OUT! (but those earrings need to come and live at my house)

  • LuisaNL

OUT. the shape is not flattering on her at all and the hair! I don’t even…

  • snarkykitten

The slit is awful and it’s her hair that looks like a mushroom cloud.

  • The slit ruins it. And the hair is terrible-out.

  • mozzer0906

    OUT, she looks awful

  • leftcoastpickle

  • Barbara Woodruff

This is one of those dresses that send me to Google to find out how old the wearer is. She’s 39, but this is making her look 59. That being the case, OUT – aging and funereal.

  • IN. I love this dress. I wish she’d smoothed the top of the neckline so that the lace was flat, but otherwise I think she look amazing.

  • Offbalance

Eh.  Call me when she has a catfight with Jessica Chastain and they fall into a pool.  That’s what this dress evokes for me.

  • mrspeel2

I remember wearing my hair like that when I was in high school. It was called “The Debbie Do” because Debbie Reynolds wore her hair that way at the time.

  • Bisected rectangle.  OUT.

But the earrings are to die.

  • Out.  Please send this outfit back to Nicole Kidman’s closet where it belongs.

  • rumcg66

    OUT. Ugly and unflattering. Blech.

  • Yosa Addiss

Girl that is NOT YOUR DRESS.

  • ojosazules

Far from a werq, but an In overall. Those earrings are stunning.

  • PastryGoddess

That dress looks like widow’s weeds

  • Lilak

Matronly indeed … in spite of (or strangely compounded by?) all the sheer lace and the slit skirt, so the “matronly” tag is really serious.

  • MalCo09

OUT. the placement of the lace on the top makes her look sad and droopy

  • procrastinatrice

In. I actually kinda like the hair, the earrings are fab, the only thing that bothers me is the fit at the top. The sheer part at the front looks wider than it should be.

  • OUT. This look is aging her. That lace detail is accentuating the lines on her face (and she’s young and pretty … boo). And the shape isn’t flattering her figure.

  • Out!

  • Out!

  • out. way too much going on with that dress, none of it good, and her hair is awful.

  • IN. I love it.

  • It somehow makes her figure look boxey.  The combination of the dress and hair ages her.

  • Out, like Heidi’s in the previous post, this dress is horribly unflattering. She has a lovely figure, but you’d never know it from these pictures.

  • crash1212

OUT. God, I feel like we should just stop posting on Miss Amy…she never gets it right and it gets tiring.

  • laquevuela

I have an irrational celebrity love for Amy Adams, so take my comment with a grain of salt, but I think she looks like a hip young widow whose 90 year old sugardaddy just left her a very wealthy woman.  Her make up is sublime, the earrings are elegant, and I even like her hair.

  • her hair’s messy, the dress should be fitted better, but i’m still going to give it an IN.

  • Dagney

Hmmm…looks a bit Mother-Of-Bride…but a MOB who wants to bang all the groomsmen.  and in 1982.

  • Sara__B

From the too-long hem and too-high slit to the aging hair and make-up, OUT.

  • peacockprincess

Once again, you guys nailed it–the sheer parts give her an odd shape and the beading IS fungal!  I love Miss Amy, but she needs some intervention.

  • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

Regretfully, out.  It looks too big and sloppy on her.  However, earrings are gorgeous!!!

  • ringthing

Dang it, I just love her, but I can’t with this dress. Fungal is right. Great earrings, though. OUT.

  • OUT. It hides her beautiful shape.

  • MaryAtRealityTea

Hmmm… If I don’t really focus on the details and instead take in the overall affect (i.e. she looks happy and it fits/is striking), I would give it an In.

But after further assessment observing her tortured cracked out facial expressions and the Dance Moms competition troupe hairdo, along with the fact that I cannot unsee a 60-something socialite wearing this to look sexy, I am forced to give an OUT for confusion, oddity, and well, just not really working. Sorry Amy.

  • OUT. I actually like it from the neck up, but that dress is just not flattering.

  • j_anson

    Nope. OUT.

  • f_yeah_marie

OUT, but at least she’s trying.

  • jw_ny

    So OUT!

Among all of the bothersome issues with this look, the one that gets me the most is the bagginess of the top…at her sides.  I’m almost equally bothered by the slit…makes it look like she’s wearing a jumpsuit with a train.  Oy …between her, Katy, and Adele, I just don’t know…smh!  Thankfully we started off on a positive with Queen Helen…

  • DaveUWSNYC

    OUT. Bad.

  • Aly Light

Why would she choose such a fussy dress?! OUT.

  • JMB_edits

She looks happy….. but, NO.  It’s out.  Dress is aging and frumpy and that’s never good.
On another note…. is that Hugh Jackman behind her doing his best “Singing in the Rain” look with the raincoat and hat?

  • shelley514

I have a feeling Miss Amy looked better in person than these photos portray.  The lace and beading are definitely fungal, but Is there necessarily anything wrong with enhancements that one might normally only see under a microscope?  I think she looks kinda sexy.

  • Mariah J

LOVE the dress, the hair turns it into matronly Disney villain. Le sigh.

  • MintaHallWriter

OUT.  It makes her look seriously thick-waisted and flat chested, and her hair is pure Joan Crawford.  She’s such a pretty woman…but you’d never know it with this dress.

I like her earrings, though. (Though I agree they don’t particularly go with this dress.) Does that count?

  • Monabel

    scroll down fug

  • IN. I think she looks great even though somehow I feel like it doesn’t fit her quite right. Triple points for not going Jolie in that atrocious slit.

  • footsieprincess

I think I can see nipple (left boob)????

  • PeaceBang

You’re not being meanies, this is a hard OUT. The dress is doing absolutely unforgivable things to her lovely figure.

  • YolandaHawkins

OUT!  Morticia Addams would toss that back.  And I’m sure there is a cream for that fungal outbreak on her chest.

  • Crystal

Ok. It’s kind of a mess. But I’m kind of excited to see her look a little bit of a mess since she’s usually so INTENSE and buttoned up looking.

  • It’s an OUT for me: the dress makes her look boxy, the makeup is too simple, and the hair looks like the stylist gave up.  I’m thinking someone super tall, super thin, no hips, and a long neck could do this dress justice (it is admittedly a hard one to do).  As is, dreadful.

  • guest2visits

Pretty from the neck up – but the dress is horrid; frumpy and misshapen.  Not even nice on the model.

  • Qitkat

I dunno, I actually like this even while understanding all the criticisms, but I wish she hadn’t turned the lace down at the neckline, it  needed to remain dainty there.

  • demidaemon

Who are these people? Anyways, my mind immediately went to fungus as well, even before T and Lo stated it. The myconids are trying to eat her breasts! Also, HATE the hair. OUT.

  • oohsparkley!

  • She looks like a chic but ageing disease is growing on her like ivy.

  • XMom

I just have to say that she looks so much better than the model. I’m not sure what it is; maybe the neckline on the model? It looks like her head has just been turned completely around. I scrolled past it pretty quick and then had to go back up and look again. It is just a straight neckline on Amy and that is such an improvement.

  • IN. She looks pretty chic. Don’t get me wrong, it’s far from perfect but it’s not OUT.

  • CatherineRhodes

OUT. She looks awful from top to bottom.

  • barbarienne

With that giant slit, it made me think for a moment she was wearing pants, not a skirt. I think this would have been better with chic, loose ladypants.

I don’t hate the sheer/fungus, but I want to pin her down and apply Preparation-H and concealer under her eyes, and then add a bit more color to her face.

  • RocknRollmom

OUT–too much dress and the sheer parts on front completely warp her figure making it look like there is 12 inches between her breasts which appear almost non-existent.  Hair is horrible.  Makeup and earrings are pretty

  • OUT.  Despite the sheer, the dress is aging.  The boat neck isn’t flattering to her figure. Along with that bun, she looks ten years older than she should.

  • Lisa M. (ReVoir) Kramp

I wish I could disagree with you, TLo, I really do. Out.

  • Miss_Led

    Out; it’s very unflattering.

  • subwaycars

    OUT. Super unflattering.

  • Fine if you were Barbra in 1966. Out! But her jewelry, as always, is fabulous!

  • altalinda

Guess she didn’t want you to call her a sister-wife again.

  • Damien W

And the nominees for Best Impersonation of Nicole Kidman by way of Annette Bening are…

  • I’m going to say IN, I think there’s more good than bad here, although the earrings give her pink eye. If the makeup and hair were a little better I think a lot of the look would come together.

  • KayEmWhy

    Helen Miren wouldn’t wear it.

  • ThaliaMenninger

I know it’s probably weird to focus on the waist when there is so much else going on, but… I HATE THAT CREEPY CRAWLY WAIST. She’s out for me based on that alone.

  • zelavie

OUT.  The entire bodice is wrong for her.  It’s flattening the girls, and the lace on the neck isn’t sitting properly.  Nice earrings, though.

  • Ugly dress on a pretty girl.

  • i give her an in just for the earrings…i want! needs more color on the lips and black eyeliner for emphasis.

  • OUT. The beading and netting is awful and the hair is a travesty.

  • Celandine1

This dress is ugly. For shame Elie Saab, making that tiny model and that tiny actress look so wide with growths sprouting from their breasts.

  • In. I haven’t seen her look this good for a long time.

  • MarinaCat

I’m starting to believe I just have an irrational negative spot for her. Every time I see her, I think, “meh.”

  • lehen

    out. hate it.

  • formerlyAnon

It’s unflattering. Which is a cardinal sin in an obvious va-va-va-voom dress. Plus the slit is too high unless she’s referencing the Ziegfield Follies. Which might explain the hair – perhaps she lost the headdress going through a low doorway?

  • lalahartma

  • Trisha26

OUT. This is another gown that looks backwards to me – not so much on Amy but on the model – just creepy. I dislike all the transparent parts, yet the gown is extremely sophisticated – and to me that’s not Amy Adams. Just not her dress at all. I hate the hair.

  • oldbobbydraper

  • Out. I can’t get over the feeling her head is on backwards. Any dress that makes you look like one of the goofier scenes in Death Becomes Her is out. Sorry Amy.

  • neofashionista

this dress is just NOT in her Wheel house

  • PaulaBerman

Oh god, it’s hideous. It looks like she is being turned into an evil witch via the black veins on her chest. OUT.

  • NYCGlamourpuss

It’s very “Ann Margaret at some awards show in the 80s”.  And going by that grin on her face, I’m guessing she has no idea we can see her right nipple through the lace.

  • butter nut

OUT.  i love her. i think shes beautiful.  but this is not right for her.  or rather, it’s out of her league.  the hair, makeup & fit are all wrong here.  put this dress on another woman.  miss amy needs simple clean, uncomplicated dresses.  one of these days girlfriend will get it right & slay us all.

  • Lisa_Cop

  • Elisa_G

    Exposed nipple = OUT
I can’t get beyond this and this would still be an out if the hair were better and the dress more flattering.

  • SRQkitten

OUT. The “Ann-Margaret: the middle years” look does not flatter. She’s so cute but this look is not.

  • Out.
She is so damned adorable but never seems to wear the right thing. This dress is wearing her.
    *sigh *

  • poggi

I love the earrings.  Everything else is out.  Keep those and start over.

  • How did she not get cast in that Grace Kelly biopic the Kidman is doing? I think she has the face for it.

    • bd73

if anyone, you’d think paltrow would be doing it. her bone structure is much closer and people have been calling her the new grace kelly since ’95.

      • Mary229

I think Amy Adams remembles Grace Kelly (in both face and mannerisms) way more than Paltrow does though.

    • Mary229

I’ve been saying this for months.   I can’t figure it out.   First off, she looks like a younger version of NIcole Kidman.  Second, she has the talent and mannerisms of Grace Kelly and the face.  It should have been her.

  • kikisayshi

I don’t think she looks the way she thinks she does in this dress. Way too matronly on her (I love using Tim Gunn-isms!), I think mostly because of the hair. Plus it makes her look very broad in the shoulders. OUT.

  • Out! She is 50 years too young to wear that.

  • Louise Bryan

Out.  It looks like someone forgot to do the inseaming on this jumpsuit.  As for the hair, well, obviously the weather was not cooperating, and God forbid the celebriladies should wear coats and hats.

  • CarolinLA

If it were pants, in.  So no, it’s an out.

  • bd73

in, but i hate the earrings

  • RzYoung

OUT, i think this is a monstrosity, it’s so awful, i’m surprised it isn’t Marchesa

  • Out. If there were less and it were better proportioned, she’d look great. Oh and the hair – I agree.

  • I don’t mind the hair (J.Lo?) or the make up. The placement of the slit is as awkward as the placement of the sheer panels. But, hey, she looks like she thinks he looks good, so that goes a long way. In.

  • OUT. She can’t pull off these gothy gowns. And she needs more dramatic make-up. She looks like she’s wearing Grandma Morticia’s sexy dress and is prancing in front of the mirror.

*I have an irrational hatred for her, so a whole box of salt might be needed.

  • mhleta

OUT. The dress on Amy, and even more so on the model, looks like her head is on backwards. The placement of the sheer panels is a little vulgar, especially on the hips.

  • mmc2315

  • OUT.  another dress that a) highlights lace, used gratuitously; b) sports a too-high slit; and c) looks like it’s backwards.  Love the earrings.

  • OUT. Don’t like the dress. at. all.

  • Come on you guys, that is not good.  At first I thought it was going to be, but then there is always the dreaded scroll down.  This should be worn by a woman of advanced years.  Sophia Loren could wear the crap out of this dress.

  • librarygrrl64

IN> This is good for her. Just needs tweaking.

  • ccm800

    Out. Just ugly to me.

  • omg  all dont know anything about style SHE LOOKS AMAZING!!!!!!!
