Grammys 2013 Red Carpet Rundown

Posted on February 11, 2013

Gotta love the Grammys red carpet. It’s an oasis of bad taste smack in the middle of awards season, when we’ve all gorged on tasteful Oscar-nominee gowns for weeks now.

Hit it, tacky stars!

Alicia Keys in Azzedine Alaia

We just don’t like anything here; not the shape of the skirt, the use of leather, or the strips of skin showing. It all looks kind of awkward and unflattering.

Ashanti in Tony Ward Couture

This is striking, but the proportions are off – don’t really need those shoulder treatments and the skirt’s a bit too full – and there’s too much peek-a-boo going on.

Beyonce in Osman

We think it’s kind of awesome that after her extremely attention-getting moment at the Super Bowl, Miss Bey decided to keep things toned down and simple for the night. Plus, we love the ladypants. Would’ve recommended showier earrings, though.

Bonnie McKee

The dress is kinda Xena-fierce, but we can’t with that hair.

Carly Rae Jepsen in Roberto Cavalli

We imagine this looked very pretty in person, but it looked deadly dull on camera.

Carrie Underwood in Roberto Cavalli

 This is gorgeous.

Chrissy Teigen in Joy Cioci

Estelle in Genelle Brooks x Love Collins

We have to give her credit. That’s one crazy print and she’s showing belly skin, but somehow, she’s pulling it off.

Faith Hill in J. Mendel

Pretty, but a bit serious for the occasion.

Florence Welch in Givenchy Couture

STUNNING. No, really. We couldn’t take our eyes off her. We don’t like that she matched the shoes and the purse exactly to the dress, but we LOVE that dress for being so odd and so head-turning. Not merely a perfect Grammys dress, but a perfect Grammys dress for Florence Welch specifically. It’s SO her.

Janne Monae in Moschino

It never changes, but at least she looks impeccable.

Jennifer Lopez in Anthony Vaccarello

When J Lo first walked up to Seacrest, we could only see the top half. “Wow. J Lo looks kind of toned-down toni–OH. MY. GOD.”

We enjoy the display of divatude (as well as the accessories), but this is just a strip of fabric arranged to show off bodyparts. And we hate the hair.

Kaley Cuoco in Amen

Trying too hard. Not bad, but not quite.

Kat Dennings in Vivienne Westwood

Kathy Griffin in Oscar de la Renta

This didn’t look like much onscreen, but it looks pretty spectacular in pictures.

Kelly Osbourne in Paule Ka

Miss Kelly can’t really handle the severe ponytail look. Doesn’t suit her. The dress is just okay.

Kelly Rowland in Georges Chakra

 BAM. Stunning.

Natasha Bedingfield in Emerson

We would like this so much more if it didn’t have those cutouts at the sides.

Nicole Kidman in Vera Wang

A bit dull. And we hate the sheer-over-mini thing.

Solange Knowles in Ralph & Russo Couture

Bow down, bitches. She looks AMAZING. Needs more dramatic makeup, though.

Taylor Swift in J. Mendel

Oh, look. Tay-Tay’s in a white dress. Again. At least this one is a little grown up and sexy, although we’re not loving the shape of the top half.

  • MzzPants

The Knowles sisters knocked it out of the park.  I find the toned-down accessories and make-up to be refreshing.  The clothes and confidence more than make up for it.

    •  They both looked great but in glancing at the photo above I couldn’t help but think the white part looked like a burp cloth over her shoulder.

      • JasmineAM

        Multitasking with baby Blue!

    • Beyoncé’s pants could have fit better, imho.

  • karenbttc

I thought you’d feature Guiliana just to yell at her more (like you did on Twitter last night), LOL

  • Aly Light

Nicole Kidman looks like she has jaundice. Seriously, you’re a blonde, tan woman. Do not wear sheer yellow overlays. Just don’t.

    • E. D.

At least her hair looks like the conditioner has seen some action in 2013.

    •  maybe she was being the ‘demure wife’ while hubby did his ‘work thing’? like at the masonic lodge?

  • imspinningaround

Kelly and Solange are SER. VING. IT.

  • AuntieAnonny

I’m in love with Flo’s Reptar dress.

    • snarkykitten

all the points for referencing Reptar!

    • I was going to say Silurian, but Reptar works, too.

    • Rand Ortega

I was thinking Sleestak Queen. But Reptar is apropos, too.

    • lovelyivy

I was thinking King Koopa, but Reptar works.

    • Billie_Dawn

“Hey…look…it’s some kids…on the ice. Quick! Somebody call their MAAAAAAAHHM!”

    • nosniveling

  • FrayedMachine

Man, Alicia Keys has been looking pretty horribad lately. Though I do love that toned down look on Beyonce. I LOOOOVEEE Welch’s dress. Love love love love loooovee. Kind of wish she had a slightly less harsh lip color though. And I definitely agree on Solange’s make up. She looks very much like she just woke up with how things were set. Janelle’s ensemble is on the fence for me. I love that she went with a -different- kind of suit but she looks INSANELY stiff. Like she’s definitely wearing a corset under that and probably can’t breath very freely.

    • sweetestsith

I’m pretty sure the vest is a corset. It looks CRAZY structured, and I think I can see boning ridges.

  • OrigamiRose

J-Lo has such a fierce face and I commend her for making it the focal point with minimal makeup; but putting a door knob on the top of her head completely distracts from the effect.

    • littlemac8

But, but, but…can you believe she out-Angelina’ed Angelina with that slit/leg pose?????

      • editrixie

It’s kinda mind-boggling. Oh, Angie, what hath thou wrought?

      • OrigamiRose

I can’t believe it took J-Lo that long *to* do it.

        • Well, she wasn’t going to do it just to do it. It had to be at the right place, at the right time…and then BAM! Angelina who? 😀

      • Sweetbetty

Does anyone else wonder about the construction of the crotch area of that dress?  The way the top of the slit rolls back towards the body implies that the skirt is not just slit and the raw edge finished; it looks like it’s attached to some inner construction feature to assure that it opens but only so far.  I’m imagining a panty build into the dress with the top of the slit attached to the leg opening at the crotch area.

  • Does anybody remember the other muses (beside ONJ) in Xanadu? There was one that had that same stupid, pointy topknot that JLo is sporting. And it still looks stupid and pointy.

    • OrigamiRose

Perhaps J-Lo is making the case, however subliminally, for a Xanadu! remake?

      • I heart that movie intensely, and would be absolutely furious if they remade it. So, if there’s any consistency in these times, they definitely will.

        • OrigamiRose

I can’t imagine a remake.  About the only person I could see filling the Gene Kelly role, and I HATE myself for saying this, would have been Michael Jackson.

          • MilaXX

             Savion Glover

          • OrigamiRose

Love him but he’s nowhere near in the same range of “star” as a Kelly or Jackson.

          • MilaXX

but he has the dancing skills

          • You’re thinking about it wrong. They would put an aging, handsome star in the role, and just pretend he was a dancer back in the day. So, pretty much George Clooney, or somebody to that effect. Or, worse, an ACTUAL former dancer, i.e. Travolta, which would be horrible, just horrible.

          • OrigamiRose

The thought of Clooney committing career suicide like that makes me sad.

In a way, Travolta kind of deserves it though 🙂

  • filmcricket

Solange FTW, although I agree her make-up could look fiercer.

As annoying as I find La Swift, and as much as I hated her opening number, I gotta give her credit, she was enjoying the shit out of every act last night. It’s nice when people remember the Grammys are supposed to be a party.

    • Sobaika

Hehe, it was cute but I was experiencing a great deal of second-hand embarrassment for her.

      • filmcricket

I was experiencing more during that Mad Hatter’s Tea Party of an opening number. Speaking of which, why were so many of the songs so low-key? I apparently missed Jack White bringing the house down, but seriously – such a snooze-fest for so much of the night. I stayed up to the end in the hopes that LL would cover a Beasties song; was disappointed that he didn’t but did enjoy the little MCA shout-out.

        • Sobaika

Jack White & Ruby were my favorites of the night. I enjoyed Adam Levine with Alicia Keys, also the Marley tribute. I don’t really follow Bruno Mars but he looks like a great live performer. But yeah, it was anemic in terms of live performances.

I was personally hoping for a ‘Mamma Said Knock You Out’ moment.

          • twocee

I thought the Marley tribute was really well done.

As to the rest, I was just happy I didn’t have to sit through an over-hyped Gaga “performance.”

          • I enjoyed the Tribute song with Zac Brown Band, Alabama Shakes, Mumford, Elton etc.  Jack White was amazing and I don’t typically enjoy him. Chuck D and LL were so pumped it was fun to watch. Testosterone overload at it’s best.

          • filmcricket

I was just incredibly pissed that they didn’t do a proper tribute to Yauch. I liked the Marley tribute, and I love Levon Helm and Dave Brubeck as much as the next person (and I enjoyed “The Weight”) but come on. I guess the fact that they gave him a screen of his own during the “In Memoriam” section is something – probably owing to the fact that he died stupidly young for a cancer victim. I just feel like the Grammys are still somewhat dismissive of hip-hop.

          • MilaXX

I dunno I prefer a Marley tribute more than 1/3 Marley.

        • Right?  It was pretty much a snooze fest the whole show. Also if Justin Timberlake never gyrates and pops his hips forward on national television again the world will be a better place.

          • Sobaika

Seriously. His microwaved Robin Thicke performance was not working for me.

          • MilaXX

I had major hate going for me watching that wanna be Sinatra performance. Then they topped it off with 2 commercials featuring him. I got even more pissed when the Bob Marley tribute on had 1 of his songs. WTF GRAMMY people?

      • MilaXX

I was more in the chile have a seat group myself.

  • Sobaika

I will be in the minority, but Jennifer Lopez and Kelly Rowland were GIVING ME LIFE.

    • SassieCassy

      Chrissy Teigen also!

    • Rand Ortega

I almost switched teams for Miss Kelly. That gown was BANGIN’!!!!

  • I LOVE the lizard queen. None of the rest interest me much.

  • Judy_J

Florence Welch looks like a sea goddess.  That liquid green is stunning.  I’m sick to death of JLo.  To quote Scarlett O’Hara, “She’d walk down the street nekkid if she thought it would get men to look at her.”

  • I’m sorry, but Florence Welch just looks like a redheaded lizard to me.

Both Knowles sisters turned it OUT.

    • filmcricket

Yeah, I saw her on TV and said “Aw, she wore a dinosaur dress!”

      • Disco dinosaur!

      • MilaXX

I loved the color, but I could not get past those reptilian bumps.

  • NinaBoo

Taylor Swift and the Heidi-hair. Child, you tire me out but with your fabulous life, I can see why you could not care less.

  • nannypoo

It’s possible that Nicole Kidman has never looked worse. That silly dress matches her icky hair color exactly, and whatever she has done to her face recently makes her look really strained. The other one here that I would like to take a moment to ridicule is Jennifer Lopez. She is deploying that face she uses for photographs that I suspect she thinks is fierce, but I think she looks like her allergies are acting up. And she seems to have a penis on her head.

    • amaranth16

“The other one here that I would like to take a moment to ridicule” – You win everything for that. 🙂

    • kimmeister

      Aaaa . . . CHOOO!!!!

  • Flo and Kelly Rowlands win for the divatastic “BAM” effect. I love Beyonce’s understated look, but it doesn’t look like she’s at the Grammy’s. Carrie Underwood, Faith Hill, Solange Knowles and Kathy Griffith also top my list. JLo wins the “WTF” award this round.

  • StellaZafella

The stunners are stunning and the misses are still fun to look at but I’m just wondering:
Has anybody done a really good treatment on the life of Tammie Wynette?
    Can Carrie Underwood act?

    …Get my drift?

  • 3boysful

You know, in general, these bodice cut-outs and tummy strips are not flattering.  Think about it, Ladystars.

  • SassieCassy

i really want to like beyonces look but she needs some extra sparkle. doesnt seem very GRAMMYS. maybe earrings would have helped.

  • xmixiex

I also love that after something as over the top as the superbowl, Bey is simple and chic.  But Kelly Rowland… wtf?!  seriously?

  • There’s no denying Kelly Rowland’s body is amazing, but I think that dress is just vulgar.

    • Jessi03

Agree.  “Look!  My lady bits are RIGHT HERE!  I marked them out for you!”

    • Kristin McNamara

Me too. I am NOT on board with calling that look “stunning.”

      • Sara LaBatt

Maybe it was stunning in the sense that when you saw it you were stunned into silence for a few? I know that’s how I felt!

  • I think Carrie Underwood looked amazing in both dresses she wore last night (are you going to comment on the train wreck that was Miranda Lambert’s performance dress?).

    • twocee

And her performance.  Something was way off with her last night.

    • RedRaven617

I thought Miranda looked like she may be having a baby. She looked a little “green around the gills”

    • conniemd

That performancedress cut her midthigh, giving her thunder thighs.

  • I’m assuming you’ve reserved a private post for miss Adele then? 🙂

    • SassieCassy

dont wrry, they snark all over her upholstery outfit

  • Le_Sigh

I love how Kelly and Solange are looking extra amazingly chic fabulous on the carpets lately – especially after seeing a retrospective of what Tina Knowles had been slapping on their bodies in the early days.

    • MilaXX

Don’t tell Ms. Tina she’s not a designer!

      • Rand Ortega

Shhh… it’s not a secret to everyone  but Tina. LOL!

  • I’d hate to be sitting behind Solange at the show, but OMG her hair (and the rest of her outfit) is incredible. Love Flo’s reptile dress, Kelly and Beyonce look amazing, and that might be a personal best for Carrie Underwood.

  • TSkot

Solange Knowles looks like she just rolled out of bed and ripped the slit of her so-so dress rushing to be ready in time for the limo. Horrible.

  • I feel the opposite about Beyonce’s jumpsuit.  It’s hard to articulate but this is one woman who knows how to play the game. I applaud her for it, but its teetering into full on annoying because its becoming so blatantly obvious.  Of course she wasn’t going to come and steal the show with a flashy dress after the Super Bowl and a year she wasn’t nominated.  That’s not her ‘persona’. And I don’t  care for the jumpsuit. I thought Faith Hill’s was a Frankendress, none of the parts seemed to go together.  I agree on Taylor’s dress, ditch the silver cross and keep the silver around the neck and it would have been stunning.  JLo is screaming “I’m still hot and relevant!!” in everything she wears now.  I can’t even with her anymore. Solange FTW. Everytime they tried to get a shot of Bey and Jay, all you saw was Solange. Snaps girl.

  • Imasewsure

Love and respect for the ladystars who got the idea that formal for the Grammys needed to still stay a little bit out there… BAM for Solange… and not hating Bey Bey’s look now that I’ve seen it up close.

  • Jessi03

JLo’s dress sadly makes her legs just look stumpy.  I thought it was really unflattering.

    • conniemd

Jlo looks absolutely gorgeous on her make-up ads. Her skin is so beautiful and her face great. If she didn’t try so hard, she’d be the most stunning woman at any event. She doesn’t need “look at me” clothes at all.

  • gabbilevy

I’d hate to be sitting behind Solange at the show, but OMG her hair (and the rest of her outfit) is incredible. Love Flo’s reptile dress, Kelly and Beyonce look amazing, and that might be a personal best for Carrie Underwood.

  • DTLAFamilies

I want to like Flo’s look but the makeup and hair are terrible and the matchy accessories are boring. In theory I should be eating this up with a spoon but the details are leaving me underwhelmed.

  • voter1

Loved Carrie Underwood’s dress.  Of all of the dresses, that one caught my eye first.

  • In_Stitches

I quite like Kaley Cuoco’s; it’s kind of high end groupie wear and considering she’s a non-musician attending the Grammy’s, it’s a cool interpretation.  I also love Alicia Key’s bodice.  The skirt is every kind of horrible, but the bodice is delightful.  She’s got a small bust so she can work a revealing, strappy almost commando-inspired look.

    • SassieCassy

she looks like a poor mans qwen stefani in that getup

    • Tatiana Luján

I like the bodice of Alicia Key’s dress too.

  • Lilithcat

    we hate the sheer-over-mini thing.

Those always make me think that they ran out of the lining fabric.

    • decormaven

It looks like she has on droopy diapers. Don’t think that was the intended effect.

  • Florence for the win! Wish I could have watched the show, but between SNL in the 80s and Masterpiece, my DVR was tuckered out! Love her new song though. And Solange’s!

  • I adore Kat Dennings, but she needs to go up a size or two.  She lost a lot of weight between the first and second seasons of her show, and I think she thinks she smaller than she is (which is not snark; I preferred her a bit bigger).

  • cleverlady

Kat Dennings in…  Handi-wipes… I mean:  Vivienne Westwood.Best TLo description EVER!
It’s why we love you so… a genuine laugh out loud in the afternoon.

  • Tatiana Luján

I like the leather bodice in Alicia Key’s dress. The skirt is very unflattering.
There’s so much happening in Ashanti’s dress it looks tacky.
Beyonce looks very chic. I wish she had worn better shoes.
Carly Rae’s dress is beautiful, but the hair and makeup are too casual.
I like Estelle’s look, but the strip of skin shown throws the proportions off.
Janne Monae thought she was going to a Halloween party.
I hate Jlo’s dress, but the shoes are awesome.
I loved Kathy Griffin and Kelly Osbourne’s looks.
Kelly Rowland’s dress is vulgar. Had it been lined, it would have been a WERQ.
Solange looked great. I think the only thing her makeup needed was some lipstick, but I don’t like the color of the shoes.

  • Mazenderan

Solange and Beyonce both look amazing here.  Beyonce looks so much better toned down just a little.

Alicia Keys seems to be going through a bad fashion spell.  Nothing suits.

Kelly Rowland’s dress veers towards tacky for me, but she has enough class to make it work.

  • Rand Ortega

Is it me or is Faith Hill giving off a major SJP vibe?

  • Cathy S

What’s with all the cutouts? Not liking that at all. Carrie Underwood’s gown is gorgeous and I could look at Solange’s hair all day.

  • ojosazules

Florence Welch’s dress looks like it would leave a trail.

  • joancarol

    Not the Momma!

  • Faith Hill looks like the fantasy one has about one’s headmistress, after you realize that she’s smoking hot for a headmistress.  Kelly Rowland’s dress says “Welcome to Virginia,” if you catch my drift.

  • jw_ny

I’d be so pissed if I was at the Grammys and seated behind Solange!   I love her look tho.  🙂

I’m not overly impressed by most of the others in this set…give nods to Kelly R. & Estelle.  The big black patch at Kelly’s crotch looks like giant granny panties to me.  Florence’s green dragon dress…eh, gimmicky.  Beyonce’s seemed too casual.  Can’t stand anything that Carrie Underwear wears.

  • What? What the fuck with Kelly Rowland???

  • BrightsideSusan

Kelly had the best gown of the night.  Flo looked fierce.  Taylor was having so much fun all during the broadcast that I kinda started to like her.

  • barbarienne

I cannot unsee Faith Hill as having a hairy man-chest and arms.

Florence Welch, OTOH, is awesome. I saw that and thought, “Girl done slayed herself a dragon and is wearing the skin. Badass!” She looks fantastic and fantastical all at once.

I’m a little freaked out by Kelly Rowland’s dress. It’s trying a little too hard, to my mind.

Kat Dennings apparently lost her dress on the way to the venue and Ms. Westwood whipped her up a little something from some old wrapping paper and scotch tape.

  • kimmeister

Alicia Keys seems to be going through a version of what we recently saw with Jennifer Hudson.  Her post-baby body looks slamming and she is eager to show it off, wearing stuff just because she can, not because it’s necessarily flattering.
Love Beyonce’s look but don’t like the matching cuffs (I like the cuffs, just not that there’s two of them).
Janelle’s pants are a different shape than she usually wears, no?
Kaley’s eye makeup is criminal.  Something’s off with Kat’s too.  And perhaps Natasha should not wear red lipstick.

  • Annabelle Archer

Why does Alicia keep wearing the same overly complicated black dress over and over?  So tired of it.
Taylor and JLo did their predictable best.
Kelly, looks fairly tacky, the only saving grace is the venue.  Anywhere else and I’d be calling her a Ho.

  • jilly_d

I also don’t love Miss Alicia’s odd skirt shape – but I disagree on the top; I think that leather strap halter thing looks hot as shit on her.

  • Little_Olive

Really you liked Carrie U’s? It just seems so boring and serious. No what the Grammys are about.

  • Solange always says  me: “I am the better Knowles sister.”

Girlfriend is FIERCE. And that color with her skin tone is just to die.

    • j_anson

Aw, can’t they both be awesome?

  • bertkeeter

I’d like to know the exact date of when JLO spent a night at home with her kids? I mean really!

  • schadenfreudelicious

i preferred JLo’s hairdo on Pepper from AHS……

  • prettybigkitty

For f’s sake JLo.  She looks ridiculous.  Over her x 2.

  • MilaXX

I must say it was interesting to see folks trying to work around and/or ignore the dress warnings.

I like that Bey kept it low key.
Estelle worked with the designer to custom make her look.
Janelle Monae proudly wearing her uniform.
I thought Kelly looked pretty, even with the ponytail.
    Kelly Rowland SHUT. IT. DOWN!
I liked Solange, but she needed color on her face, either a dramatic eye or more lip color.

I can’t with Florence Welsh. All I thought of was X-men. I think if the dinosaur bumps weren’t there I would like it. It’s a great color on her
If Alicia Key wasn’t going to style her hair, she should never have cut. I wore that style using black gel and water as a teen. The dress is a big no, and I am tired of “girl on fiyah!” The song sucks.
JLo wore half a dress and a bathing suit. It passed diva and went straight to hoe.

  • susan6

LOL at Carly Rae Jepson, especially when Carrie Underwood’s pic is right below her wearing a very similar dress by the same designer.  Hey, Carly Rae, look at Carrie….that’s how you’re supposed to wear a dress like that.  It would help if you didn’t drive here in a convertible with the top down.

In the battle of the shiny green dresses, Florence gets crowned queen of the Slytherin prom.  Sorry, Solange, but you really need to put some makeup on for this event.

Kelly Rowland wins the evening for giving a not so subtle middle finger to the modesty guidelines.

  • FLORENCE, my girl.

  • XMom

On a completely different note .. Carly Rae Jepsen. To me, it looks like her head has been photoshopped on to her body. It looks kind of large compared to the rest of her. The color / skintone / makeup is completely different. Can any say orange? And I don’t know if it was the lighting or the makeup, but she appears to have some seriously deep lines on her face. She is not that old!

  • tereliz

Solange looks fucking fabulous. I can’t believe how much I love those shoes with that dress. Loving the green dress on Flo, too, actually. Reptar on Ice!

re: Janelle Monae’s favored look, I love her style, but I’m sadistically awaiting the day some brainless celebutard hands off an empty champagne glass to her. Seriously, though, I appreciate how consistently good she looks. However, I can’t help but think that in the right stylist’s hands, she could do a more feminine take on menswear, instead of the more literal, traditional suits she favors. It’s her look, though, and she rocks it!

  • altalinda

I was with you on your assessment, over at People, of Adele as worst … until I saw Ashanti.  Horrifying.

  • j_anson

That dress on Kelly Rowland really is a demonstration of the fact that if you tailor and design something right, you can give a peep-show of just about any part of your body you want and it’ll still get rave reviews. I mean, this one is giving side-boob, crotch, AND butt, but it’s still managing to look kind of… sophisticated. Stuff that looks vulgar doesn’t just look vulgar because it shows off body parts; it looks vulgar because it shows off stuff without having other redeeming qualities.

  • alyce1213

Kelly Rowland’s dress is full-on vulgar.

    • Super_Red

I couldn’t agree more. I *hate* that dress. Full-on to vulgar city with a pit stop at tacky town.

Florence Welch, and OMG SOLANGE win this for round for me.

  • lamamu

Jolie could learn a thing or two from JLo about how to throw some leg. That’s how it’s done, lovers!

  • shelley514

Kelly Rowland is the best of this bunch.

  • susu11

I give Kelly Rowland a lot of credit for not looking completely vulgar in that gown. No easy task – well done!

Florence is Godzilla fierce and I loves it.

Solange is my favorite of the bunch. What I wouldn’t give to slap a dramatic cat-eye on her face, but she is damn close to perfect here.

  • Judih1

Kelly for the win! Dress, hair, makeup, accessories – flawless

  • LambeeBaby

Florence Welch is doing “poison ivy”. very cool. Solange looks like she forgot to put make up on.-that’s a shame since the dress n shoes are great. Kelly Rowland-BRILLIANT!

Handi-wipes is the perfect description for that God awful Kat Dennings mess of a look.

  • Trang Nguyen

Weird! Taylor put her hair down after the red carpet and looks soo much better than that milkmaid do.

This gif of her dancing at the Grammys is pretty hilarious too.

  • IAmJ

She wasn’t included in this rundown, but to me, the biggest disaster last night was Kelly Clarkson. The dress and the hair were just awful. Girl can definitely afford to hire someone to make her look half-decent for her next big event.

    •  Made me sad because I love her so much, but she was a Dress Barn mess.

  • pookiesmom

    Solange FTW. She looks incredible.

  • siriuslover

Sorry, but with those lumps on the dress, Florence Welch looks too much like the Loch Ness Monster. I couldn’t get over the lizardness of the gown. For the rest, not as much cray cray as I expected for the grammys, though the opening hair was just too much.

    • pop_top

I was thinking dinosaur – though I do like the color.

  • Taylor’s dress made me immediately think “SCOLIOSIS BRACE.”

  • carolclark12

Why do Jennifer Lopez’s boobs look like they are flattened by a mammogram machine?

  • Trisha26

In the Katy P post I said AVA – well I was wrong – Kelly Rowland is AVA-personified. That is one slutty, disgusting dress. There is no reason for a dress like that or for a lovely woman with a gorgeous voice to dress like that.

Ashanti’s gown looks like lingerie, Beyonce’s pantsuit is striking but way too casual, on Bonnie’s dress the white drapey skirt looks like an addition to appease censors, and Solange’s shoulder pads look like growths. Otherwise pretty much agree – LOL!

  • oldbobbydraper

faith hill looks like she smelled a fart

  • snich11

Florence looks like a green Stegasaurus.

Nicole Kidman looks knock-kneed in all her pics.

  • can we give Taylor Swift the Lea Michele treatment?  But instead of “Of course”, maybe something like “tote”?  As in, “that white, virginal shit and stupid smirk, is totes taylor” or “that’s totes the dress for re-writing your 30th break up song this week” or “no bitch. it’s not them. it’s totes you.”

  • margaret meyers

Miss Bey looks so effortless and attractive.  She looks so relaxed here you have to love it.  And you need to cover more of the BAFTAs, because Sarah Jessica Parker also switched it up and wore Lady Pants to ann award ceremony.  She also looked effortless and relaxed.

  • Vickiefantastico

Someone please explain to this old prude why Chrissy Teigen’s outfit is “strippertastic” while Kelly Rowland’s dress is “stunning”? I officially don’t get it.

  • lrober03

Solange, not afraid to serve up some extra color with those shoes.  Fantastic.

  • Jennifer Coleman

    I’m really underwhelmed here.
The best looks are pretty but problematic: Solonge’s dress is gorgeous, but she looks like she’s been up for 48 hours. Kelly Rowland is also gorgeous, but that dress is one sneeze away from vulgar. Flo Welch looks great, but I just can’t get fully behind a dress with spikes in it.
These’s a lot of crackishness on parade, too: Jennifer’s leg needs to call Angelina’s and they can become BLF’s. Ashanti’s dress is hypnotically hideous, Estelle is giving me vertigo (and her hair isn’t helping it), Kat Dennings looks wrapped in bubble wrap & Bonnie  McKee looks like a Game of Thrones reject.
And for the bonus, that is the ugliest Vera Wang dress I’ve ever seen, Nicole Kidman.

  • NYCGlamourpuss

Kaley Cuoco looks like she’s wearing what she THINKS a rocker chick would wear.  “I have no idea what a rock and roll girl would wear!  Maybe this stuff…”

  • kathrineb

Woa. Kelly Rowland pulls off the dress so well, which is not easy. What a bod!

  • kaycem

the thing i like about j.lo’s look — the only thing — is that she spit on the face of that memo about dress code lmao.  i didn’t watch and have no idea if it was intentional, but i love the whole “oh you’re going to use me as your bad example, well here sluts” attitude.

  • bitchybitchybitchy

I was getting a Miss Dianah Ross vibe from Solange Knowles-well played.  Who knew that Rihanna would look classier than Alicia Keys?

Florence Welch’s dress could not be worn by anyone but her. The color is so great with her skin and hair.

  • Bey looked good, but too casual.  Solange just looked tired. I can’ with Florence’s dress, and I don’t hate Katy Perry’s dress that much Kelly shuts it down. It wouldn’t work for the Oscars, but it’s fabulous here.

  • par3182

I was so hoping that Kelly Rowland’s cutout dress was designed by Dmitry Sholokhov.

  • is Janne Monae a Drag King? or was s/he riding in a horse derby later?

    • No such thing as a “horse derby” and I don’t know any riders that would wear anything even remotely similar really (It’s my field of work, so…accuracy 😛 )

  • I ddn’t watch the awards, scrolled past the J’lo pic and thought ‘oh god, that looks like someone doing a bad J’lo impersonation’..

Imagine my horror when it WAS J’lo…doing a bad J’lo….how utterly sad.

  • quiltrx

Florence and Carrie FTW!  I *like* to think that if I were a fantastic fashion designer, I would come up with something just like the detailing on the bodice of Carrie’s gown.  VERY much to my taste.

And Flo, well…she’s just fucking fantastic and so is that awesome gown!

    • Melvis Velour

I saw that dress and it’s just absolutely Florence – no one else could have pulled that off.  As for Alicia, is it me or does that remind you of that craptastic monstrosity that the male Blenley sent down the runway last week on PR?

  • Carrie Underwood looks too Barbie for me. Seriously, about ten years ago Mattel came out with It Girl Barbie or something, and this is what she looked like.

JLo needs to stop trying so hard.

  • hypeman414

ELLY ROWLAND for the win! Where is her WERQ?   Solange looks a close second.  I’m tired of JLo; can we move on.  Beyonce – way too casual.  It looks likes she’s going to dinner at Nobu.

  • Florence for the WIN. Seriously, that green lizard-alien-dragon-whatever dress is SO AMAZING on her, and I actually support the matching clutch/shoes – in my head she skinned a green sequin-covered lizard-alien-dragon-whatever and made a dress and accessories from its hide/skin.

Solange looks fierce, everything works: the hair, the SHOES, the color.

I also really like Kaley Cuoco’s look, but that’s grading on a curve, for sure.

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE doa post solely on Miranda Lamberts sequined travesty of a minidress she wore performing!  If there was ever a “Girl, that’s not your dress” moment, this was it.  (Well, that and every single item Kelly Clarkson wore all evening.)

I really loved Kelly Rowlands dress, she has the slammin bod to carry it off and it is the Gramys.

  • Beyonce: boring.
Kelly Rowland: Really?  You’re good with that?  And yet you take Natasha Bedingfield to task for a couple of side cutouts?
Nicole Kidman: WHEN is she going to realize that straight blonde hair is NOT for her?
    Florence: Adore.

    • Kelly Rowland: Really? You’re good with that? And yet you take Natasha Bedingfield to task for a couple of side cutouts?”

It’s less about the amount of skin being shown as it is about how that skin is being shown. Beddingfield’s cutouts look awkward, Rowland’s look interesting and beautiful.

  • Florence Welch’s dress looks a little…Silurian empress? And J Lo’s hair looks like a dog left her a little present on her head.

    • snich11

  • Lilak

    Flo = perfect.
And though she worked within her customary lines, Miss Monae did make it interesting: I’m sure I’m making this up, but I’m seeing a little Django Unchained atmosphere in this.

  • Hate everything about JoLo’s look, ESPECIALLY the hair. Yuk.

  • Do you wonder if Kelly Rowland and Solange called Bey and asked if she could tone it down (albiet looking fantastic in the process) and give them chances to shine?

  • maggiemaybe

Solange is a goddess, and I’m digging Estelle’s ensemble – don’t know why it’s working so well but it totally is.

  • melanie0866

I HATE BEYONCE’S PANTS.  I liked the top until I saw it was pants and not a dress.  They don’t fit!  Look at the way they’re puckered over the crotch!  They look like old-lady stretch pants and make her butt look enormous.

  • fursa_saida

What in god’s name is going on with Carly Rae Jepsen’s makeup? In other news, I am all about the dinosaur dress.

  • Thank you for not showing the giant tittyballs in the tight green dress.

  • guest2visits

Several really beautiful looks; but of course Florence’s was amazing and just stunningly perfect for the event.

  • PeaceBang

What fun!! A lot of true fabulosity on parade here: I DIE over Kelly Rowland, Solange and Florence Welch (Queen of the Sleestaks). That has to be a personal best for Carrie Underwood, and Janelle Monae = perfect iteration of her “thing.”

  • Why are all the cutouts the same exact shape?

  • Ashanti’s outfit looks like it’s for a Klingon.

  • ccm800

    SOLANGE!!!!!!! you go!!!!! damn

  • Eileen Duffy

That one girl is “strippertastic”, but Kelly Rowland is stunning? I think Kelly’s dress is much more tacky, with all the see through spots.
