Diane Kruger for Manhattan Magazine

Posted on February 27, 2013

Miss Diane, who really should be drowning in offers to do fashion editorials, gets to show her model-y side to Manhattan magazine.

Diane Kruger covers the March 2013 issue of Manhattan magazine in Tom Ford photographed by Yu Tsai and styled by Marina Nilsson. Choker by Givenchy. Vintage belt and necklace.

Unfortunately, it’s not really living up to its potential. Diane can work a lens and work a crazy outfit, but she’s doing neither in these pics. We like the outrageousness of the clothes, because that’s definitely her thing, but the pics don’t really do her – or the outfits – justice.

Those are some crazy-ass shoes – all of them.

There’s something about that first pair…the chunky heels, maybe?…that screams “late-90s” to me…and not in a good way.

      • RebeccaKW

That is exactly what I was thinking.  Those look like every pair of sandals my friends and I wore in high school. In the mid-90’s.

        • Vlasta Bubinka

I was looking at that pic and all I could see was the precision line for an on ice homage to Depeche Mode’s “Master and Servant.”

    • ChiliP

A waste- she’s normally a great model. She looks like she’s about to sneeze in the Dsquared2 shot.

    • charlotte

Why did they photoshop her into Hayden Panettiere? That wasn’t necessary.
(St. Patrick’s Day with Nick Offerman and Megan Mullally sounds like fun)

    • Alexandra Simons

She always looks so washed out and bland. Can’t someone put a bright lipstick on her? She really needs to look edgier to pull off these (and most of her other) looks.

Beautiful woman, great clothes, boring, boring, boring editorial. Did I mention that I was bored?

      • lovelyivy

Yup. That second picture should be steaming up my screen with her sex appeal. It fails.

    • Andrew Schroeder

      Her hair is really unfortunate.

    • kmk05

…is it me, or is there a 90s Madonna vibe? THIS IS CONFUSING ME.

      • http://twitter.com/YINZERELLA DinnerIsServed1972

        It’s not just you.

      • DeborahJozayt

Borderline. Feels like you’re going to lose your mind.

      • NDC_IPCentral

I was thinking “Madge, Madge, Madge” myself.

      • cowper

         Desperately seeking susan!

    • MilaXX

what a waste of Diane Kruger

The lighting in the photos is really harsh, and the magazine’s fonts scream “amateur.” I know I’m being bitchy, but she deserves better.

Wow. Who styled her hair? It looks like a righteously fried home perm.

    • tereliz

What have they done to her hair? YUCK! That on top of the Xanax face and stiff posing is making me really hate these pics. You’re better than this, Diane!

    • appliquer

      Bad makeup choice.

    • filmcricket

Everything she’s wearing makes me expect to scroll up and see Madonna’s face.

    • http://twitter.com/DarthJaeda Jaeda Laurez

The hair is terrible- like they started to blow dry it, and then there was a short, and they just said “eh. it’ll do.”

    • librarygrrl64

Wow, those are some ugly pieces.

    • BrooklynBomber

I love the Tom Ford dress, but the DSquared is a joke – and she’s not the person to tell it.

    • Rand Ortega

Where the hell is this shoot located? Somebody’s backyard?  The spigot shot is bad enough, but that shot of her in the lawn chair is unforgivable. You’ve got fantastic clothes by the hottest designers out there & a fantastic fashionista actress/model everyone wants to see & this is the best you can come up w/? Whoever produced this half assed whatever should be fired.

    • mjude

seriously on the 1st pair shoesboots, awful.

      • HomeOfficeGirl

Yes, that pair is the most egregious.  It’s got an orthopeadic heel??

    • kimmeister

At least she isn’t wearing the salmon colored pleather (?) socks.

    • Imasewsure

Love them shoes… love the model in the black and white dress too… Di’s pictures are just ok

    • j_anson

      Oh lordy no.

    • http://twitter.com/foodycatAlicia foodycatAlicia

Please don’t let leather gaiters happen.

    • Qitkat

Swing and a miss, all of them. That is a spectacularly poor cover.

    • http://twitter.com/cornekopia Shawn EH

She’s an actress; she can’t work without a good director. Also, the clothes are kind of tack.

    • guest2visits

Only the cover is nice.   The rest are working too hard to be sexy/edgy.

    • http://frankbettecenter.org/ sleah_in_norcal

those spat-like things in the first shot…or are they attached to the hideous square heeled shoes?  in which case they would be boots…anyways, aren’t they the same fetish wear that anne hathaway had on in her recent coochie-flashing incident while emerging from a limo?  before i look like a total perv, i must say that i know this only because i was just perusing the recent news about annie and i came upon the infamous shot.

    • Alyssa

She is so amazing, and these pics aren’t doing her justice, imho.

    • Pants_are_a_must

I like Diane Kruger, but she’s not one for a recreation of the Blonde Ambition Tour.

    • BazoDee

I’m so glad you posted this. I saw it on a headline elsewhere and was so excited to click on the headline “Diane Kruger cover” and was soooooo disappointed. So much wasted potential. And she barely looks herself.
And I don’t know if I’m happy or disappointed that you skipped the pic of her spewing water!

    • Zippypie

This is pretty horrible, from the greasy bedhead hair to the torture device “shoes”.  Looking at this, I want to apologize for being from Manhattan.

    • decormaven

These look very randomly styled. No editorial story that’s evident- at least not to me. She’s worthy of much, much more.

    • Trisha26

Love that little skirt/bustier situation – would be a cute top over leggings for us mortals – but those awful chunky-heeled sandals with the leather leg-warmers & garters? NO!

    • DominoEstella

I can’t get over how small her feet look.

    • formerlyAnon

Meh.  My  most vivid takeaway is her hair – which I think is awful. So, they failed with me.

    • libraangel

She looks as if she’s getting a headache

      • golden_valley

        Yes, a big ole’ migraine

    • quiltrx

The way she’s styled, it looks like they wanted Radha Mitchell and she was busy.

    • PeaceBang

This all looks phoned in. No commitment from anyone involved.

    • http://profile.yahoo.com/Y3OY6COEVBS2STNCUNIRZ3COUE Claudia

      It feels like old Madonna.

    • RzYoung

I’m sensing a little Madonna ‘Who’s that Girl’ in this?

    • Anniebet

Poor styling, washed out makeup, same dopey hairstyle throughout – she must have been frustrated as hell. The leather leg whatsits are silly. Give the woman a chance and she’ll chew through your photoshoot and give you some amazing pics. This isn’t the way.

    • lobsterlen

Those leather stocking thingies look itchy.

    • http://twitter.com/PhDKnitter marlie

      These are so unbelievable UN-interesting.

    • peachy

the whole layout fell kind of flat for me. shame, because she knows how to werq some designer duds.

    • jetpackdino

      Where did her NECK go?

    • ccm800

she looks kinda exhausted in these

    • kathrineb

Bla blah. Not into the hair.

      • kathrineb

Woa just looked at this again and how did I not see the shoes before? LOL.
