Cover Girl: Rachel Weisz for Harper’s Bazaar UK

Posted on February 05, 2013

We’ve never been prone to singing her praises, but Miss Rachel is giving primo FACE here:

Rachel Weisz covers the March 2013 issue of Harper’s Bazaar UK magazine photographed by David Slijper and styled by Leith Clark.

Gucci Spring 2013 Collection/Model: Kasia Struss

And that dress looks spectacular on her. Definitely a stop-you-in-your-tracks (and by “tracks,” we mean the checkout line) kind of cover.

Inside, she does the classic Hollywood thing, to lesser effect:

Ralph Lauren Spring 2013 Collection/Model: Bruna Tenorio

Enh. Seen it. But that cover shot is gorgeous. She should put that dress aside for her next red carpet.

Holy hell. The photoshop job on the cover is so botched. Her head looks insanely misplaced like they literally copy and pasted her head onto another woman’s body. They also did quite a lot of shopping on her jaw line. I honestly barely recognized her. It seems they only left her face from the bridge of her nose up alone. The dress looks gorgeous but holy wow I can’t really take that cover in for more than a second at a time.

    • Sobaika

She definitely looks… imbalanced. Probably a PhotoChop disaster, but maybe because her hair is swept back much tighter on our right, it makes everything look off-kilter?

      • FrayedMachine

It’s very specifically because the shadow around and under her face is not matching up to the rest of her body. It honestly looks like they took two different shots of her and merged them. Ugh. UGH. It just makes my eyes bleed.

      • bella

Its really weird, like they pushed back the entire left side of her face. I thought she looked crazy good on the cover until the photoshop was pointed out.

      • calimon

If you look a little closer, you can see that her lower jawline on the left side extends up towards her hand and then suddenly cuts off and back to her cheek bone.

These overly manipulated images are what we (women) are supposed to live up to!?

I just find it a bit depressing, because I was so shocked to learn that a dear friend of mine has gone under the knife, just to maintain her appearance for her husband. She’s not even 35, and she’s mostly (except for this) intelligent, ambitious, attractive & successful, yet it’s never enough.

In a way, I’m grateful I can’t even afford the temptation (due to external pressures) of considering having work done!

    • marlie

Totally… it looks like a cut and paste job. With a pair of scissors and glue, and not editing software.

    • Nicholas

She looks like a scrapped character from Death Becomes Her.

    • janinedm

Before I read TLo’s comments, I was like, “her head looks completely insane.” I made my peace with photoshop a long time ago, but this is crazy looking.

      • Kristin McNamara

And her left hand (on her leg) looks insane too. Creeeeeepy doll-looking… or something. Don’t know. Can’t quite really nail down what it is exactly that looks weird about it to me, but it does.

    • 1964edithgrove

       Looks absolutely nothing like her.

    • Little_Olive

Gah, It would have taken me days to guess it was her. Sophie-Ellis Bextor(ish) or a French actress whose name I can’t remember is what I saw.

    • kolokOlchik

Absolutely!  And one side of her face appears thinner than the other.  Bad, bad photoshop!

    • MissAmynae

I thought it was Carla Gugino.

    • capybara_cafe

It looks like that Barbie with the broken neck ball-joint thing, so you have to ram her head down lower on the neck than it belongs.

    • lovelyivy

It’s a very ‘my brother was playing with my barbies and pulled the head off and this was the only way I could fix it’ kind of look. No bueno!

    • miagain

I’m with you… the dress might be gorgeous, but I can’t get past her neck and her jawline… they owe her a huge apology!

    • JosephLamour

I was like, she may be giving primo face, but someone gave her someone elses body, LOL

    • kaycem

thank you!  you took the words right outta my mouth.  it’s like they pasted her face (badly) onto another body w/ completely different lighting.  and when they pasted said head on said neck, they didn’t bother to center it or make it look natural.  travesty.

    • AnnPopovic

Yes! It looks like her head is sitting further back on her neck than it should; it’s like an Escher sketch!

  • Ann

  • GorgeousThings

I thought she was a dark-haired Cameron Diaz in that cover shot.

  • LuisaNL

    that dress. just gorgeous.

  • marlie

I *think* I like the cover shot, but I can’t get past the horrible way they photoshopped her head/neck area.

  • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

LOVE the picture of her in the black and white dress.  As for the cover?  Meh.

  • CakesOnAPlane

The woman is a gifted, successful actress, sophisticated, intelligent and beautiful to boot, and all they can say about her on the cover is “Mrs. James Bond”?! I would be a little ticked if I were her.

    • eowyn_of_rohan

Was just going to say that.  She earned major accolades for her last movie, is about to star in a huge potential blockbuster, and has an Oscar to boot.  She’s waaaaaaaaay more than a movie star’s wife.

    • charlotte

I think someone was way proud of the “The spy who loves her” pun and had to get it out there.

      • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

Yeah, they sat up all night thinking of that one.

    • Pants_are_a_must

She really should. She’s been a critic darling far more than her husband has ever been.

    • cowper

New cover line: “The Woman that Felled James Bond.”

  • Tadiana

Maybe I’m not so jaded with overdone magazine photos, but I really like the second picture.  Probably better than the cover shot, now that the Photoshop expert BKs have ruined that one for me. :)

  •árez/100002964685796 Josefina Madariaga Suárez

Has she ever been casted as Juliette Lewis’s relative (sister, aunt, cousin, whatever)?

  • OrigamiRose

I have such irrational love for her, in spite of that horrid dress at the Globes.  She’s one of the few movie stars out there who would have been at home in the movies fifty years ago.  She’s just lovely.

  • Claudia Fernandes

the red dress reminds me Viktor&Rolf in 2004…I miss them…

  • Annabelle Archer

The only face I’m seeing is one eerily similar to the face my little girl used to make when she was filling a diaper.  Not feeling this at all. The sleeves are giving me Carmen Miranda, not movie star glam.

  • SewingSiren

Cover = a Elvis paint by numbers on velvet. Her hand looks like one of those rubber ones you by at the dollar store for Halloween.

  • Bert Keeter

Why can’t American Mags do better covers? This isn’t perfect but a hell od a lot cleaner and more dynamic than USA versions!

  • Vera L-

She looks like Helena Christiansen. Christiansen has a child with Norman Reedus. Reedus plays my favorite character on TWD. Which resumes this weekend. ~squee~

    • foodycatAlicia

Yes – I thought Helena Christiansen too.

  • MilaXX

Great over shot. The inside pic is a bit of a let down.

  • abigail3

Also on the cover they changed her gorgeous Jewish nose into some kind of petite pointy thing.

  • Aldona Dye

MRS. JAMES BOND?? SEROUSLY HARPER’S BAZAAR?? This is a very accomplished actress you’re talking about…care to mention that?

  • l_c_ann

Button that next button.  Your target audience IS NOT buying the darned magazine for the cleavage.  Respect your readers and their taste in clothes.

  • 4JJ

Love her. Always have. Always will.

Definitely love the inside photo as well as the cover. And yes indeed, she is so much more than Daniel Craig’s wife.

  • Laurie Landry

Want the pink sandals on the model.

  • Janet B

I “think” she looks gorgeous in the red dress. Undo all of the Photoshop and I’ll tell you for sure.

  • Christy Cricow

I cannot see past the Photoshop. It looks like she is deformed, maimed…..I saw this posted somewhere yesterday and KNEW this page would have something biting to say about it. I am shocked. Fellows? You don’t see this?

  • PrunellaV

So sick of the “illusion” netting, which provides no illusion at all. And as usual for magazine covers these days, the face looks like it’s pasted on. Incredible dress, though.

  • Zippypie

That’s Rachel Weisz?  The same woman who was just sporting a fur trimmed parka and looking like a lovely normal woman?  This is so photoshopped, I can’t see past it.  I see no resemblance to the live person here.  Yes, the dress is awesome, but the face….

  • libraangel

That color dress is good on her, but how much of her face is photoshopped? At least she’s not doing that dopey open lips look. Inside, she looks as if she is high.

  • Ceyda Keçeli

Looks like her head is attached to her body on a laptop somewhere far from her

  • m0r0

She looks like Cameron Diaz’s dark sister on the cover. UGH.

  • guest2visits

My first impression of the cover is how great she looks; making good use of her eyes and features –
but I think the dress design itself is too lumpy and wrinkled below the belt line. I guess they chose it for the dramatic arms.
The second pic also has the distracting black lumps of lace that overpower Rachel in what could have been a simple sleek look.
Love her face in the shot though.

  • Alyssa

I wish they had made the cover more about her, and less about being Mrs. James Bond…she’s an acclaimed actress as well, not just married to an actor!
