Am I the only one who thought he was kind of a dick on the red carpet?

    • Nope, not alone.

    • OrigamiRose

I don’t know.  If I had to run a gauntlet that included Chenoweth, Seacrest and Rancic, I’d probably be a bit dickish as well.

      • MaryanneGirl

        Totally agree.

      • JosephLamour

Aww, I like that little munchkin. Not Seacrest, Chenowith. LOL. I would (will? a boy can dream) totally sound like an asshole talking to any red carpet interviewer. “Guess whats in the box!” I really wanted someone to say something really awful to see how she’d react to it.

        • MK03

Apparently several people said it contained the head in a box from Seven.

          • Derek_anny

             How many said a Cat?

    • Sobaika

I didn’t see much, but I thought him helping Cheno back into her shoe was adorable.

      • He always seems adorable to me, and really (REALLY) happy to be there. I mean, there was no chance in hell he was going to win and he seemed truly delighted anyway. Although: Shave the neckbeard and -for once- your pants are too short. Mom is cute even if she is pulling a KStew.

    • I didn’t see the cable interviews – he seemed fine with Kristin. They did an entire schtick about his mom’s shoes and how short Chenowith is without hers.

    •  I only saw him acting sweet.

    • ccinnc

He lept out of his seat (as did Hugh Jackman) when Jennifer Lawrence tripped. I give him major props for that.

      • Plus, endless points for his reaction when someone recently asked him if he was dating Jennifer Lawrence: “I’m way too old for her.”

  • How cute! It looks like his Mom is wearing tennies under that dress. However, the white fluffy thing needs to go.

    • A. W.

She is definitely… not the most glamorous of women.

    • A. Valera

I love that you said “tennies”!

    • Sweetbetty

I thought they were bowling shoes.  Did she explain why she was wearing them?  The obvious reason would be comfort but I think her boy would have sprung for a good pair of dressy flats if that was the issue.

      • patticake1601

She looked like she had trouble walking so I am assuming she has problem feet or legs, hence the shoes.

    • suzq

Leave Gloria alone.  For all you know, she has painful bunions and has been dying to wear ostrich feathers for decades.  She wouldv’e worn them sooner if her son hadn’t been making crap buddy comedies.  She’s a happy mom.

      • andreawey

I love how when Kristen asked her “who she was wearing” she said ‘oh I just grabbed this out of the closet” 😉

      • She said she pulled the ostrich feather thing out of her own closet, so . . . I love her. Also the way he introduced her to Seacrest: “This is Gloria Cooper, of Philadelphia.”  I don’t normally swoon for him, but I did then.

        • Winter_White

I’m so glad you mentioned that perfect introduction!  So gracious…I just loved him for it.  (But that made it even more distasteful and condescending when Seacrest then called her “Mom” in an overfamiliar tone.)

      • Color me confused. I said “how cute.” Since when is that an insult?? Me, I would have worn  Converse Hi Top Chucks.

    •  Wearing tennis shoes under a dress is completely not acceptable. Not at the Oscars. Not anywhere. It’s just not okay.

      • This is why the world won’t run out of haggis. 🙂 I respectfully beg to disagree.

      • formerlyAnon

I will accept that that is your opinion.

My opinion is that whether she has foot pain, balance issues, or some deep seated affection for those shoes, she’s not there as part of a job with appearance requirements. She’s there as her son’s guest and if he’s fine with it so am I.

    • capybara_cafe

Yup, they were like shiny lame’ sketchers or something. When KC asked her who she was wearing, she said “Oh, I just pulled this out of my closet” which I sort of love. It’s nice to see people not take the whole thing TOO seriously.

  • I thought for a second that his mom in the picture WAS Jacki Weaver

    • No – Jacki Weaver’s makeup looks like she had Tammy Faye Baker do it for her. Mrs. Cooper at least knows how to do her own face or had a good makeup artist.

    • peachy

      me too

  • newleaf1

His mom is wearing tennies!  Awesome.

    • lovelyivy

I appreciate that her tennies are fun and look a bit irridescent- they’re fun and a bit kooky, and I can’t remember the last time we saw something really FUN on the Oscar red carpet. We never see anything like Bjork’s dead swan dress, or the Amex gold card dress or cross-dressing a la Matt and Trey from South Park. It’s all so boring and safe now.

  • Are his pants too short? I can’t tell.

Other than that, eh. It’s a tux. I like the vest.

    • I thought the vest looked too tight.

    • kimmeister

I thought the pants were a tiny bit short too.

    • Little_Olive

      They seem to be.
Whatever, I could not care less for this man.

  • SneakyKitty

I can’t decide if I like him or not, but any celeb who brings their mama to the Oscars can’t be all bad, right?  (I’m looking at you too, Chris Evans.  Please tell me you’re really as nice as you seem.)

    • Oh, Chris Evans.  I adore him.  And with his mama.

    • fursa_saida

Chris Evans is one of those actors I don’t want to like (he’s a total bro! Specifically a total Boston bro! (I’m from Boston and usually hate the Boston bros.) Sometimes he seems really self-important and overly Pained By The Burden of Celebrity!) but god help me, I do. (He speaks honestly about his anxiety issues! Somehow the bro-itude becomes endearing, like when he played beer pong with Jimmy Fallon! Also sometimes his accent slips a little bit and I can hear the Boston in it and I get all nostalgic!)

This is an ongoing issue of deep importance.

  • My mom is 4’10”, and from now on all my fantasies about Bradley Cooper are going to have a subplot where our moms are off shopping for petite clothes together and having a fucking blast.

    • MaryanneGirl

    • formerlyAnon

I am vastly entertained to know that your fantasies have subplots.

      • Also sequels.

        • formerlyAnon

All the best fantasies are serials.

  • decormaven

Wow, he is tall, or his mother is tiny! Tux appears well-fitted, but what is the fabric used for the bow tie? Hard to tell from the angles.

    • Jessi03

His mom is teeny.  Kristin Chenoweth did a bit on the red carpet on which one of them was shorter.  She took her shoes off, and Bradley’s mom was just about an inch taller than her.

  • Mb

Did mom think nobody was going to see her feet?  And what’s up with the flood pants on him?

    • barbarienne

Obviously she thought they would see her feet–that’s why she wore the shiny blue sneakers instead of plain black New Balance walking shoes.

I don’t know what her deal is, but there are lots of legitimate reasons for a person to say “Fuck that” with regard to social pressure regarding shoes. She could have collapsed arches or recent joint replacement surgery or a bad back or any number of things that make it impossible to wear even a low-heel shoe for more than five minutes.

      •  Sally Field wore tennies too.  Just saw a picture of it on some website – TIME maybe??

      • Sweetbetty

Between the shoes and the fluffy sleeves it was obvious that she was vying for attention; maybe to compensate for her lack of height?

  • I totally lusted after him back when he was on Alias. Now every time I see him, I wonder how this is the same person.

    • Sobaika

Will Tippin!!! I wonder he and Jennifer Garner bear hug at these events.

  • he’s sexy as he has always been but kinda looks funny in the last photoshot

  • charlotte

And that’s how you wear a Tom Ford suit and still look kind of homeless. No to the neckbeard!

    • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

Agree 100%.  Neckbeard RUINS it for me.

    • Vlasta Bubinka

The beard is fug. Between his facial hair and her bizarre plumage of sleevery, I can only hear “THis is what we call the Muppet Show.”

  • BuckeyeLou

Personally, I prefer clean-shaven men, I did not care for all the beards on other-wise Handsome men last night. And Bradley’s hair is too gel, slicked back, prefer it looser.  And his Mother has a crazy look, bless her heart! Giant boa & sneakers?! Oh My

  • savicevic

Still hate the hair, but he endeared himself to me when he ran up (along with Hugh Jackman) to help Jennifer Lawrence when she tripped. And his mom is tiny and adorable!

  • jw_ny

neck beard at the Oscars Bradley?!  oh…I can’t believe your momma didn’t send you back home to shave…

    • Sobaika

Momma doesn’t seem to give a hoot.

    • TAGinMO

You mean the same woman who’s wearing sneakers with her red-carpet gown?

      •  I don’t know the story, but I’m sure there’s a reason why she’s wearing sneakers.

      • jw_ny

It looks like her toe with white socks are sticking out the end…I’m wondering if she’s wearing boots for something like bunion surgery.  idk.  But yeah…her taste level does appear to be in question.

  • There’s a neckbeard epidemic going around and I don’t like it. You are in formal wear- look formal. The hair is a little…heavy, but at least he tried, and it looks neat.

Only thing i’ve got to say about his mama is- bless her hawt.

  • Neckbeard *and* gigolo hair?  Oh, dear… not pretty at *all*.

    •  Yup!  turns a handsome guy into a “greasy douche” every time.

  • xmixiex

what the ever loving hell- SNEAKERS, MOM?!?!?!?!?!

  • How humiliating for him to have to walk the RC with his Hangover 3 hair.

  • He’s so hot.  Mm mm.

  • notterriblybitter

Is she wearing sneakers? And feathers? At the same time? Eight year old me would’ve thought that was a fantastic idea. Significantly  older than eight year old me still loves feathers and sneakers but sadly acknowledges that they don’t belong in the same outfit.

Oh wait, this is about him, isn’t it? He looks very nice but his pants are too short and he should’ve shaved his neck. Unshaven necks and tuxedos are as incongruous as feathers and sneakers.

    • alyce1213

8-year-old me YES! Gloria’s cute as a bug, but “Really Rosie” at the Oscars?
If walking in heels is a problem, a nice pair of ballet slippers would have been a better choice. I mean, her little boy’s up for an Oscar after all.

    • Introspective

so glad somebody brought up mama’s faux pas. cause this is way too much rule breaking for the RC. There are too many fierce divas of a certain age rocking it at these sorts of events for glo to just not care (or claim she didnt)

      • Sweetbetty

Yes, that “just didn’t care” attitude irritated me too.  When asked who she was wearing she said it was just something she pulled out of her closet.  I’m waiting for the question of his mom’s ensemble to come up in all his post-Oscar interviews.

  • Catiline

Worst red carpet hair EVER.  He looks like he styled it with ocean water.  I almost can’t see anything else.

    Mama Cooper’s feathers are adorable.

  • Ugh his hair.

  • Zippypie

What’s with the frakking neckbeard?  It’s repulsive.  And his vest and pants look a wee bit too tight and wrinkled.  The bow tie looks like it’s velvet but it might just be the light.

  • OrigamiRose

Who declared 2013 to be The Year of the Neckbeard?

  • Kimberly Southern-Weber

STOP IT WITH THE NECKBEARD! What is WRONG with people?!?!!?

    • l_c_ann

My husband doesn’t like to shave.  Apparently many men don’t.  The visual irritation of leaving the neck beard really trumps the worse physical  irritation of shaving that area for him.

      • julnyes

I am going to assume your husband isn’t a Hollywood celebrity. If this assumption is correct he should feel free to handle his neck in anyway he and you find appropriate. Mr. Cooper on the other hand lives a public life and part of that public life is showing up looking polished for events. Female stars strap themselves into uncomfortable dresses and painful shoes all the frickin time, not to mention undergoing painful procedures to remain “youthful”- he can shave his neck.

  • MaryanneGirl

I tend to agree with everything I’ve seen TLo write – I’m really glad his hair isn’t so 70s porn chic & he tamed it. I know the Tom Ford 3-piece disco isn’t his best look & he seems to favor it, and I agree that it looks a bit messy on him. But more than anything? I don’t care. I juuuuuust don’t care. I love him too much. I can’t separate my deep appreciation for the fact that I wish he’d 86 the vest.

Oh, and moms on the red carpet are off limits to me. They’re not the celebrity – this is a night of celebrating their kid.

    •  Mom’s living it up – who knows how many chances she’ll have to go to an event like this! I think she looks adorable.

      • MaryanneGirl

Totally agree!  Who cares if she drapes herself in feathers and tennis shoes?  Your kid’s been nominated for best actor at the Academy Awards! Go nuts!

    • Dot

Agree times a thousand. His mom is adorable and he’s the only celebrity for whom I can overlook neckbeard. I just love him too much.

      • MaryanneGirl

Girl, yes. His shirtless self is the background of my phone. I don’t view it as objectification. It’s merely appreciation for his fine, fine physique.

    • I agree – I was just going to post about thinking the moms are off limits.  Would you tell your mother what to wear?

  • nannypoo

Another man who forgot to shave, and his hair is a greasy mess. His mom is adorable. I don’t think it’s fair to critique her clothes. She’s his mom, not a celebrity, and she was able to open her closet and find a dress for the Oscars. Good on her.

    • l_c_ann

You caught tht interview, too?  When someone asked her “Who are you wearing”  she responded “Just something I got out of my closet.”  Loved that.

  • Again, it’s the Oscars. I believe its the one night of year that warrants a full on shaving of your face. Damn you Bradley. Even your adorable mother in her feathers and sneakers cannot make up for the appalling amount of facial hair you are sporting.

  • xmixiex

there’s a very pretty boy behind him-to our right in the first shot…

    • alyce1213

  • kschwarting

Meh.  It’s fine.  I just wish he looked clean.

  • At one point they cut to a shot of him in the audience, and it looked like he had a tiny ponytail back there. EW.

  • shelley514

A little stiff, but cute!  His mom is itty bitty.  Wish he and Zoe Saldana (are they still dating) – were on the red carpet arm in arm.  Her dress was fabulous and would have played well again Bradley’s tux.

  • Maluca

It’s cool. You all can hate on him. That way, I can have him! And his mom can hang with my mom!

  • Lulu Lafurge

He gets my vote because (a) he was in Wet, Hot American Summer and (b) he seems to have no problem with his Mom’s controversial but FABULOUS outfit. Yay, Mama Cooper!

  • alyce1213

Weighing in on how bad his hair is.  I’m so in the fluffy camp for him.
    Also, neck pubes. Eeew.
If it weren’t for DD-L, I think he’d have won (but that’s the way it always is when DD-L is nominated).  This role is a career changer for him.

  • schadenfreudelicious

Mom couldn’t find a nice pair of Chanel flats??

    • formerlyAnon

She might need more orthopedic support than can be put into Chanel flats.

  • He could have cleaned up the neck beard a skosh. And his hair is better than usual, but I’m still not loving it. But I loved the vest with the tux, and the contrasting texture of the vest/bowtie and the rest of the tux. Though his pants were hemmed just a tad too short.

Mom’s adorable, though I wish she’d left the pink feather boa at home.

  •  Neckbeard makes me angry.  HULK SMASH.  At least he didn’t have his hands in his pockets, I guess.

  • imakeart

Clean-shaven or wooly, he’s still sexy.  Even if that adorable grin makes him look like he’s stoned.

  • Where’s my claxon?

  • bluefish

He looks just like Mama!  Why does his hair always have to look wet?  He wears a suit well and I like him just fine but would love to see him clean shaven again or ever and with the hair looking like he didn’t just step out of the shower.

  • MissMariRose

Seeing Bradley Cooper’s mom reminds me of the funny story Matthew McConaughey told about his mom at the Independent Spirit Awards. (Where are the red carpet photos from that event? The casual dress code made everything seem funnyto me.) For those who didn’t hear it, apparently his mom is going around pitching a remake of The Graduate with herself in the Ann Bancroft role and him in the Dustin Hoffman role. She sounds hilarious.

  • Kathy Schrenk

Hey, Mom is old and maybe she has foot problems. Lay off!

    • Qitkat

Hey, she’s not that old! I love that she went for the glamour (hair, jewels and boa) and said, f**kit, my feet are a problem, just deal! How cute the two of them look together.

      • Girl_With_a_Pearl

Respectfully replying, just because someone is young doesn’t mean that they don’t have orthopedic issues.  Speaking from experience I may add.

        • Qitkat

Oh, I agree, me too. I’ve had orthopedic issues since my mid-thirties. And they just got worse and worse. Some things can’t be fixed either, so you learn to live with them. I will never judge anyone on their footwear. She made me smile.

          • Girl_With_a_Pearl

Oh, apologies Qitkat.  I just read my post again and it sounds like I’m disagreeing with you or scolding, when I meant to agree.  I’m so embarrassed.

          • Qitkat

            Think nothing of it!
Imagine an event where the bitter kitten community could come together, dressed in their finest tennies, or Louboutins, or kilts, or steam punk or glamdiva costumes. No limits. The oscars would pale in comparison.

  • MilaXX

Ugh! He needs a shave and a hair cut.

  • Judy_S

I thought Gloria was cute, except for the feathers. Love the exploitation of gown to wear tennis shoes. That’s what JLaw should have done….

  • HobbitGirl

Aww. not usually much of a fan, but how cute is it to bring your mom to the Oscars?!

  • Stubenville

Dear God – it’s the Academy Awards and you were up for an award. At least shave your neck.

  • Mary229

I can’t be unbiased about him bc I admit fully that i just don’t get his appeal.  Silver linings Playbook was the first time I’ve ever been able to stand him in a movie.   But I like that he brought his Philly mother. 🙂

  • mozzer0906

His hair is a crime against hot men everywhere.

  • JP

There’s a running joke on the TV Guide channel’s “Fashion Wrap” about the size of a man’s bow tie. Cooper has been getting dinged by them for puny, badly tied ones. Maybe he’s listened to them? Also, like Chris Pine, he needs lessons in shaving his neck.

I know it’s his mom, and aw, isn’t that sweet, but her shoes have GOT to GO.

  • Tamara Hogan

Lots of facial hair on the men last night. I’m not a fan, but DUDES. PLEASE SHAVE YOUR NECKS. That goes for you, too, Mr. Cooper.

  • lilibetp

The beard isn’t working for me.  Please shave.  And why does he wear what appears to be a wedding ring on his right hand?

    • OrigamiRose

If I recall correctly, it’s his dad’s wedding ring.  Bradley started wearing it when his father passed away.

  • ChaquitaPhilly

NO to the “Neck Fuzz” but YES to his Mom’s shoes.

  • Mrs. Cooper — your son is nominated for an Oscar, can you put on a kitten heel at least to complete your outfit?

    • formerlyAnon

I can think of many reasons why the answer is very possibly, not.

      • PeaceBang

She’s not the nominee. It’s not her job to look perfect, it’s his. And he failed with that Vampire Hair and neck scruff. Eww.

  • Redlanta

    His Mom looked pickled!!

  • crash1212

Best thing about Brad is his mom…she rocked it with her feathers!

  • cowper

They look happy, comfortable and CUTE!

  • Alyssa

Looking good…rocking the tux & bowtie. I approve, although I could do without the neckbeard. In general, I’m not a fan of neckbeards.

  • bertkeeter

He’s awesome…but not loving the combo of facial hair and slicked back hair!?!

  • TSkot

Don’t change a thing, Brad.  Perfection.

  • margaret meyers

If I was his momma he would have shaved his neck for sure.

  • LaSylphide

Her shoe color matches his eye color. Coincidence?

  • Janet B

My teens started debating what brand of shoes Gloria was wearing.
I kept thinking he was Hugh Jackman last night. I’ll assume it was his long hair and unkept beard not the wine I was drinking.

  • Judy_J

He’s so adorable…I just wish he’d clean up.  That greasy hair and unkempt beard just don’t work for me.  I do think it is sweet that he brought his mom.

  • formerlyAnon

Didn’t see him on the red carpet, but heard an interview with Terri Gross and he came across as very charming. He has a great smile.

Even his mom couldn’t make him shave. Sigh. (Though possibly he’s willing to take her to the Oscars because she’s willing to keep her mouth shut on such things.)

I was sad to see several of the men styling their hair with a positively 19th century amount of oily-looking product.

  • appliquer

Such an attractive man being led astray by a stylist (I assume). Shave the neck and ease up on the hair product.

  • formerlyAnon

I’ve read through the comments, and I have to vent.

If Cooper was fine with his mom’s shoes, who are we to cavil? I’ve seen a recent picture of her with him at an event in which she wore very “comfortable” looking flat, supportive, metallic sandals.

There are a lot of reasons someone might need comfortable shoes – possibly even custom made orthopedic shoes. And surely she doesn’t want to become a liability as a guest because of wearing shoes in which she cannot walk or stand for any length of time. She surely wants the evening to be about her son, not about always needing someone to find her somewhere she can sit.

From some of the comments you’d think that the inability or the unwillingness to wear the “right” shoes means she ought to have stayed home out of sight.

  • I really wish he had trimmed that mossy growth that seems to be consuming him from the neck up.

  • I enjoyed seeing him with his mom. His hair looks greasy. Am I the only one who doesn’t see him as a leading man? He’s a character actor to me.

    • SRQkitten

no you’re not, I did not get his “sexiest man alive” at all. There’s so many other guys in Hollywood more deserving.

  • Shave your neck, dude!

  • LinXGUA

Ha! it’s like me and my mom: i’m a giant, she’s petite and cute.

  • Those obnoxious women on E! were obsessed w/ the product in his hair.  I was ready to slap the lot of them after about 2 minutes of their yapping about fashion.  Their coverage was horrible and the “official” coverage by ABC was just as bad.  I saw, at most, 8 gowns in an hour of switching between the 2 stations.  Hope T-Lo does a lot of posts or else I’ll have to find a copy of Peephole magazine in someone’s waiting room.

  • guest2visits

What a wonderful night for his mom.  He looks pretty happy too – and about 2ft taller than her!

  • Frank Lithium

    Too. Much. Pomade.

  • libraangel

Bradley o.k. except why 1930’s gangster hair. His mother? Sorry to criticize someone’s mom, but WTF? Something dead on top  and what the hell kind of shoes?!

  • Lisa_Cop

I was shocked that his mother visibly wore sneakers with her gown. I can understand ballet flats or low heels if you have bad back (or other medical problem). But visible sneakers under a gown look terrible.

  • littlemac8

Bless her heart!!  I have bad feet and could not totter around in heels to save my life.  But those sneakers could have been be-dazzled!!!
