Bibhu Mohapatra Fall 2013 Collection

Posted on February 22, 2013

Bibhu Mohapatra took his inspiration from Man Ray’s images for his fall collection and the results are stark, boldly graphic, cast with shadows, and tinged with a a very pared-down (or in some cases, exaggerated) take on 1920s and 1930s shapes.  It’s a pleasing blend of bohemian and classic ’30s glamour.

      FA.BU.LOUS.

      I want it all.

    • Meg0GayGuys6

More game piece/finger condom hats… but in all fairness, these are more like Mouse Traps.

      Oh, right… clothes.  They’re beautiful

    • mjude

      once again…love

    • Annabelle Archer

Fashion Week was not PETA’s week was it?  Though, I assume most retail pieces will be faux, but I could be wrong. I do love the elegance of it all.

      • tereliz

Wait til you see the Fendi show. It’s pretty much PETA’s worst nightmare.

    • Funkykatt

I desperately need somewhere to wear all of this.

      • Derek_anny

Opening night/ first screening of The Great Gatsby.  You’re welcome.

    • ankali

Lovely. Some of it seems a bit overworked (at least one dress apiece in the last 3 rows, but maybe it’s styling), and I’m not sure that clingy satin is optimal for the patterns in the 2nd row. But overall, this is striking and beautiful.

      • Funkykatt

It’s yours. I am 5′  11″ and the corset would go right under my armpits. Not pleasant

      • Aly Light

         Let’s brawl, lady!

        • ankali

I warn you, I fight dirty. There will be biting, scratching, and pulling of weaves…

    • Stubenville

Wow – not digging the tights or the paler colored pieces, but the rest is spectacular.

    • gabbilevy

      So much to love here.

    • tereliz

Love how the ladylike look is not going AN. Y. WHERE. #thingsthatmakemehappy

I’d be so happy to wear that first look head to toe. Except maybe not the dead muppet. A cute scarf instead. And different shoes, lol. So I guess what I meant was I’d wear that first look shoulders to knees. :)

The gowns are pretty enough, but the seperates are the really glorious part of this collection.

Super chic. Love the idea of turning some of his Rayographs into patterns. Top row on right is my favorite, but many of these would look great on his muse, Lee Miller. Timeless.

I’m not fond of how the thinner fabrics are bunching or gathering or pulling. Maybe the models needed to get hit with a lot of static guard?

    • Louise Bryan

      I really love this collection.

    • jmorino08

      Gawd that makeup is HIDEOUS!!!

    • Sobaika

Damn, this is good. I particularly love the glittery skirt third row from the bottom.

    • MarissaLG

Stunning! I love the geometric patterns and rich textures and colors.

    • MilaXX

Love it. I can’t pick just one favorite. I like the mustard and blue dress, and the lavender gown with the jacket

    • EEKstl

      SERIOUSLY beautiful.

    • Alyssa

Fourth row, far right…divine. I hope to see that on the RC.

    • Anniebet

Fantastic collection, although I got caught up staring in disbelief at the model (2nd row right, 5th row middle) with the Dumbo ears. I’ve noticed a few models lately with ears that stick out so darned much. Probably they’re more noticeable this year because slicked back hair is so prevalent. How do they get hired, though? It’s so distracting.

      • save_the_hobbit

Really felt the need to point that out?

        • Anniebet

          Yes. Yes, I did.

    • yulaffin

      Love those chicken wire garments.

    • Zippypie

The designs are beautiful, the color palette dismal.  And the stray dead animals wrapped around the neck pretty unnecessary.  That pearl gray gown is gorgeous.

    • barbarienne

There are a few misses in her, but overall hits, and row 4, center is spectacular.

    • libraangel

Very interesting, and I love the “1930′s” gowns, but please don’t tell me that thimble hats are in this year! (Second time I have seen them in another collection)

    • NYCGlamourpuss

Wow… I just love the whole old Hollywood glamour of it all!

    • DeTrop

I don’t know who Bibhu is but there is some serious glamour going on here.  I like.

    • MiriamMc75

Seriously! Is it just me or is everything out the gate today just unabashedly gorgeous?!

    • guest2vists

I like the net/honeycomb print; especially in the dress middle 4th row.

    • quiltrx

      Lovely.

If I had known how “me” so many of the collection inspirations would turn out to be this year, I would have cut as many bitches as necessary to get to Fashion Week!

    • ballerinawithagun

      Love!

    • ballerinawithagun

Love. Thanks for introducing me to this designer.

    • choco

      No cohesion

    • ccm800

      row four! every dress

    • JosephLamour

      Wow.

    • http://www.lippsisters.com/ Deborah Lipp

Magnif. That gray dress with the capelet? I can totally see that on Ginger Rogers as she dances with Fred Astaire.

    • BigWhiteGrannyPanties

Oh!  The gowns!  I just had a wee gasp!
