She’s looking too bottom-heavy here.  Too bad because it’s a cute dress.

      • Introspective

its her go to flare skirt and black tights combo. girl is way smaller than she almost always looks. i dont know why she’s afraid of her legs being exposed to night air.

can we talk about that crazy step and repeat background? that combined with the flowers on zooey’s dress is causing me an eye twitch.

    • blogless

She sure has a certain look, doesn’t she? But I do think she looks cute here, albeit 12 years old.

      • MoHub

She’s 32. Time she embraced her adulthood.

        • FrayedMachine

Honestly, I think this is the first series I’ve seen her in where her age is legitimately showing. I think the lack of sincere smile or any kind of a glow or interest in what she’s doing is part of what kills this.

      • Kayceed

At some point little girls in dress-up clothes graduate from tights to sheerer hose. I have nothing against tights worn with day looks, but it looks a bit odd for evening wear. On a grownup.

      • EveEve

It’s like she’s the flippin mirror negative reverse of Taylor Swift.

    • http://twitter.com/jennsaysmeow Fifi LaRoux

Of Course. It’s a cute dress though. Touch up the lips, next time, Zooey!

      • Kristin McNamara

I really dislike that lip color on her… and I feel like I’ve thought that about a TLo post on her before. I wonder if that’s just her go-to color or something? I dunno why, but it bugs.

    • http://profile.yahoo.com/TBPHHGI4WUWQ5WOSSUVI257T7A Rabbit Rabbit

why does she always do that thing with her foot?

    • FrayedMachine

I feel like she’s the odd girl equivalent of Taylor Swift for me.

Oh my god we get it, you’re quirky. It’s a cute dress but holy boy am I bored.

      • MoHub

My first reaction was that it was from the Taylor Swift collection. Then, I realized it was too twee even for TS.

    • http://twitter.com/UberChicADee Diana Giese

      Of course.

      • Paigealicious

         You stole mine! :)

      • http://vhanna26.typepad.com Vera

Yes, since I couldn’t say it about Lea today.

    • jw_ny

what a perfectly adorable Zoey dress.  She sure does love them black tights…makes this outfit look bottom heavy tho.  Hate the bump-it hair…otherwise her typical cute schtick.

    • Paigealicious

Cute dress, totally standard look for her.

    • http://www.facebook.com/dalca4 Denise Alcantara

Bouffant rule #1: GO BIG OR GO HOME

Damn it, Zoey, if you’re gonna do a bouffant, tease that thing to high heavens and kill the ozone with some hairspray. That rat on your head is pitiful.

Also could have used some color in the shoes or tights.

    • http://twitter.com/foodycatAlicia foodycatAlicia

Very cute dress but she has crossed the line from personal style to caricature.

      • eowyn_of_rohan

Have she and Taylor Swift ever been in the same room together?  I feel like that level of twee could create a black hole.

        • Sobaika

Can’t believe I’m saying it, but I think Taylor Swift has shown more style range than Zooey.

          • kimmeister

I think you’re right.  I believe I’ve seen Taylor in pants, which I don’t know if I can say the same for Zooey.

    • http://twitter.com/emilyf007 emily

I can’t stand her. And despite her slightly illogical (to me) reasoning to wear tights with everything, I cannot accept that she sometimes should go bare-legged. Or with sheers. Ugh.

    • http://twitter.com/lemonfreshmoxie Donna Lee

      Of course

    • Pants_are_a_must

Judgmental extra on the Corny Collins Show.

    • http://julia-here.livejournal.com/ Julia

This dress is better with a belt, but not that belt.

    • TSkot

Are her legs horribly disfigured or something??  Why does she insist on the dark stockings all the time??

      • bookish

My sister said she has odd looking knees, but I have yet to notice her without the tights. Personally I like to wear tights because I’m extremely prone to blisters on my feet, but it’s really not an issue if I don’t have to walk far.

        • In_Stitches

I assumed she did because, well, why else would she default to the opaque black tight day after day?  Then I saw her in short shorts on her show, New Girl, and her knees are perfectly fine.  She has slim, toned legs with a nice set of knees.

      • http://twitter.com/carelessriver Caterina Maria

You’d think she could at least find a nude-for-her pair of stockings or something.

      • http://profile.yahoo.com/KBNJ6GJTXYEE6BON3WGK6KEGT4 Elizabeth

I wonder the same thing. I suppose I could understand if she’s self conscious about bare legs and wants some cover, but why not switch it up with some light or nude hose or something? It’s always the damn black tights. Weird.

And though I think it’s kind of a cute dress; she’s too old for it. All twee all the time … it’s getting irritating.

    • VeryClaire

I’m a defender of tights but with bare arms it looks unbalanced, or bottom-heavy as others have mentioned. And she just had to twee it up with that belt, didn’t she?  Great dress though and overall she looks good.

      • gsk241

Agree 100%.  Tights with bare arms is not a balanced look.

      • http://twitter.com/foodycatAlicia foodycatAlicia

Yes. If you need tights you need a cardigan.

        • http://profiles.google.com/dorothymichael Dorothy & Michael n/a

           EXACTLY

    • http://fafafab.tumblr.com/ fafafab

      DAMN THEM TIGHTS

    • imperfectlaura

Since it didn’t really apply to Lea, I’m going to use it here…

      …Of Course.

      • eowyn_of_rohan

It’s kind of her to pick up Lea’s “of course” slack.

    • snarkykitten

why is she posing like her ankles are broken?

    • bookish

Man, that dress is perfection *without* the bow.

    • eowyn_of_rohan

      She needs a Bumpit intervention.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=14301272 Kate Gorton

Can we start OF COURSE-ing this bitch already?

    • Judy_J

Cute dress, Zooey.  Just wish you’d shortened it about 2 inches and went with sheer hose instead of the black tights. Oh, and left the belt at home.  That dress doesn’t need a belt.

    • http://www.facebook.com/AntoniaDonnelly Antonia O’Connor Donnelly

Lose the ugly bow belt. As tights seem to be surgically attached to her legs, I will overlook them.

    • Jessica O’Connell

Love the dress. Hate the styling.

    • http://twitter.com/carelessriver Caterina Maria

Oh, Zooey. Black tights do not go with everything. [sadface]

    • crash1212

I love that dress. LOVE. Not crazy about the way she’s styled it though. I could get behind a belt with it…just not one with a bow – but that’s our Zoe! I think it’s about an inch too long and the bump-it hair is annoying. Of course…with the tights. I’ve seen worse on her, but this isn’t a homerun.

    • http://twitter.com/Nancer Nancer

I’m wondering about the black hose. Her legs look perfectly proportional to her body, but she insists on wearing these EVERYWHERE. It’s funny to think that someone as young and beautiful as Zooey might have body issues, but perhaps she thinks she needs to wear these to look slimmer? If so, she should reconsider because her legs are fine! I also think nude hose would make this look less bottom-heavy and would be more slimming for her.

      • luciaphile

I work with women who will wear tights but would never in a million years wear hose. I’m older than they are and think they’re nuts–nobody needs to see my spider veins, thank you very much, but maybe ZD falls into that camp? I think the woman needs to start dressing like a grownup, if only for the sake of her future career. Manic pixie dream girl turns into slightly crazy cat lady pretty damn fast as you get older.

    • savicevic

Hate the tights and belt. Great dress though.

    • zenobar

      Of course, a bow-belt.

    • anotherkate

I actually find her quite charming onscreen, so it’s a shame that I have such a visceral, “Ugh, HER again!” reaction when I see her in photos. Her personal style does nothing for me at all.

      • In_Stitches

it’s pretty awesome that you can compartmentalize her aspects instead of wholeheartedly loving or hating her.  I have trouble with that, leading me to defend Rooney Mara’s severe bangs and tear down anything JLo trots out in.

        • anotherkate

Ha! (I’m with you on Rooney Mara’s bangs, though. She made something insane look rad).

    • PastryGoddess

Can someone please confiscate her eyeliner…please?  Or at least hold an intervention of some kind

    • schadenfreudelicious

black tights, bump-it and bow, its a Zoe trifecta!

    • http://www.facebook.com/sarah.souffriau Sarah Souffriau

      Tights again? sheesh

    • RoxieRider

If she could just figure out the shoe situation I’d have no quibble with her look. I know it’s not to everyone’s taste, but there is nothing whatever objectionable about it, and she almost always wears things that fit and flatter. If you’re going to go low-maintenance, relatively speaking, that’s the way to do it. But I’m convinced she could find a style of shoe that’s equally as interchangeable and acquirable as those round-toe satin pumps she favors that would complement her look rather than punctuating it with sad horns.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1355527007 Rain Jezek

That’s a great dress, but no to the dark tights and no to the belt. They pull the look down visually which I don’t think is widely considered to be a bonus when being photographed from that angle. Also the shoes are kind of ‘cutesy’ which, combined with a poofy skirt, that hemline, dark tights, and a big bowed belt, make her look like an overgrown doll instead of a woman. As a woman she’s gorgeous and attractive, but as an overgrown doll? Not a good look.

    • http://profile.yahoo.com/PZJXF5ET5W5PMUIIGTTNOKHVSY Ka T

I can’t with the black nylons!!!  Enough, Basta, Whatevs- you look like aunt Edna trying to look “slimming” at Cousin Clarice’s wedding….

    • http://twitter.com/PhDKnitter marlie

      Of course.

It’s actually a cute dress, but the belt makes it too twee, I HATE the tights (and I’m saying this as one wearing black tights to work today), I don’t like the bump-it hair, and the makeup is too harsh. Whew.

    • jilly_d

I really like her, but I just can’t with the RC looks anymore.  No to the tired bangs, no to the bows, no to the black tights.  Girl, get a long gown in a color and get that hair off your face.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_QFW22QV426LUOEPGASPZJWJMDE MishaFoomin

It reminds me of that dress on PR made for the Heidi challenge! With the little flowers attached all over!

    • YourBaloneyDontGotNoSecondName

In addition to WERQs, I’m afraid TLO is going to have to start handing out OCs (Of Courses).

    • Annabelle Archer

I found myself wishfully hoping that as I scrolled down I would not see the ubiquitous black tights.
      No such luck.

    • guest2visits

She didn’t need the bump-it, she didn’t need the bow. She definitely needed a sheerer black hose.

    • http://twitter.com/ajhan Angie J. Han

That bow tips the whole look over from “pretty & feminine” to “sickeningly twee.” Why you gotta ruin a perfectly good dress, Zooey?

    • captrenault

Is there some kind of Visine shortage in Hollywood these days?  What’s with all the red-eye?

    • MissMariRose

      The belt ruins it.

    • http://onebluetree.blogspot.com/ Sara L.

I do not get all the hate directed Zooey’s way. She looks cute here. She obviously believes she needs to wear tights all the time for whatever reason, and I don’t see why she shouldn’t if it makes her comfortable. And I love this dress, would have it in my closet in a second if I could afford it, and I’m 36. Okay, rant over.

    • mhleta

I really really like this dress. A lot. The crazy clown makeup and the winterized legs, not so much.

    • http://www.facebook.com/poyznelf.thompson Poyznelf Thompson

she took it just a bit too twee

    • http://robot-heart.tumblr.com heartbot

I only wish she’d try a different silhouette, just once.

    • AlexisPayne

How very Zooey, but the tights make the look too bottom heavy.

    • BrooklynBomber

Cute dress, but give it rest, Zoez.

    • frannyprof

Lea Michele seems to be getting her act together, so now seems like a good time to transfer the “of course” comment to Ms. Deschanel, here.

    • Deedles

Why does she always look like she has been bawling her eyes out before stepping onto the carpet? Sheesh!

    • marilyn

Smmer dress.  Hey, it’s winter.  Cute, though.  Don’t like the tights.  They don’t work with a summer dress.

    • In_Stitches

The hair situation is hilarious.  It looks like a hamster is  nestling on the crown of her head which would be just oh-so-Zooey.

The makeup is so heavy, it’s what they use to put on corpses to make them look lively at open casket wakes…

In regards to the fit, are her boobs sitting too low or is that neckline just not her friend?  A skinny contasting belt, maybe a red or something would really pump up the look.

      It’s all a big NO.

    • http://twitter.com/#!/Space_Kitty Space Kitty

      Tell me she’s not wearing…

      Of course.

    • j_anson

I can never look at her now without remembering that fan interview question: “Zooey, when did you first realize you were adorable?”

    • http://twitter.com/MajorBedhead MajorBedhead

That belt and that hair and those tights send it right into twee category. She’s far too old for that. And a sleeveless dress with black tights and black suede (velvet?) shoes? Come on.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_VZLU6YVO4BRTELTTH3GRAAMWZQ Dot

Her posing looks really stupid and awkward here, but I don’t think her ensemble is so bad. The tights hate on this post is funny, given the reaction to Jessica Chastain’s bare legs on a post from yesterday.

    • kimmeister

I was about to express disappointment in the usually sublime Naeem Khan until I saw that the model looks perfectly lovely in the dress.  Zooey had to go and ruin it with her stupid styling!

    • http://www.ellenciompi.com/ NurseEllen

Cute dress.  It needs sheer hose (or no hose, depending on climate), some beautiful shoes in a wintry blue or green, and either a different black belt or no belt. That bow has got to go.

    • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

Ditch the tights, the bow and the Barbara Feldon hairdo and she’d look very nice.

    • decormaven

I KNEW she would pair black tights with this dress. Oh hon, you never disappoint.

    • nannypoo

When I saw the top of the dress I thought oh please don’t let her be wearing black tights with this, but she went and did it again. What is wrong with this woman? She’s so cute and she has so much potential, and she styles it wrong every time.

    • librarygrrl64

Cute dress. Makeup is pretty. I dislike everything else (ESPECIALLY that ridiculous bow belt; belt, yes, bow, no).

    • http://twitter.com/Eovaai Eovaai

Very cute dress, quinessential Zooey look. But I am biased because I love her.

    • http://hearmeintheharmony.wordpress.com/ Melanie

I just cannot with her.  Of course she added that effing cutesy bow to the waist.  HATE.

    • http://twitter.com/ndpndntfilm Susan Velazquez

Of course ;). I wish she wore it with the silver sandals, I was curious to see how they’d look on someone besides the model. I think I read somewhere that Zooey is insecure about her legs but I wish she’d lose the tights for once.

    • oatmealpie

Why’d she have to put a bow on it?

    • E. D.

Hate the belt and her lips need a touch-up.

    • Imasewsure

She’s an idiot… What a cute dress for someone else

    • Trisha26

Love the dress on the model – love! Would totally wear that. But alas Zoe’s back with her bump-it hair, bow belt, and wearing black tights with a sleeveless dress. This must stop.

    • aristida_girl

I hate 1. The foot thing. 2. The faux Bardot hair. 3. The tights. 4. The belt. 5. Her quirky, too-twee shtick. So I guess the only things I like are the dress and her make-up. Maybe she just needs a new stylist and I would like her better…

    • up with pod people

What I would have given for a red shoe.

    • l_c_ann

Why not black silk stockings?  She can afford it.

Love the dress fabric, wish it flattered her more.

    • MilaXX

This is not bad for Zoey. The dress fits into her wheelhouse and we are in season for the infamous tights. The shoes are okay. My only dislike is the hair.

    • lizajane1776

“Put a bow on it” must be her mantra.

    • quiltrx

I know most everyone hates her here, but I don’t…and ERMAGERD, that may be THE cutest dress I’ve ever seen her wear.

I’d rip the twee belt off and I’d never, ever wear black tights (black sheer hose I’d go for)…but otherwise, if I had the body, I would SO buy this dress.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1208138556 Sara Munoz Munoz

I wonder how her carrot cake turned out…

    • Aldona Dye

OF COURSE.  Isn’t it about time she got that response as well?

    • whitrome

      Of course.

    • Frank Lithium

As long as she continues to wear her hideous tights, I’ll never approve of her looks.

    • Claudia Fernandes

So cute: seems a little girl that stole the fancy shoes to her mother

    • Cathy S

It’s a very cute dress but I wish she weren’t wearing black hose. It brings the whole thing down.

    • Candigirl1968

Zooey often looks like what she’s wearing is a size too big.  The waist is a skosh too low, the bodice a little blocky, the length a few inches too low to be flattering.  I feel like she needs to get things either a little smaller, or maybe just tailored. Also, if she doesn’t want to show her legs, Zooey surely can find something more flattering than an endless sea of solid black tights and heavy black shoes.

On the plus side, the makeup is pretty.

      • Lilak

Yup, that about covers it.  Allow me to shake your hand!

    • meebs

and this is how you ruin a good dress.

    • http://asskickingadviser.com/ Ass Kicking Adviser

I like that she makes things her own and has a distinct style, but since she was wearing pumps anyway, would it have really hurt to go with the nude stockings just this once? Ones with a little shimmer? Perfect dress for her and I like the hair and make-up.

    • Noelle Haland

Great dress (love the print), HATE the tights and shoes, HATE that BOW. For godssake, we GET IT. You’re quirky & cute, but PLEASE STOP.

    • http://frankbettecenter.org/ sleah_in_norcal

      burn those tights, please.

    • http://twitter.com/watchinginkdry Krysta

Zooey, I think, has her own brand of OF COURSE.  Different from Lea Michele’s, but just as of-coursey.

    • http://www.facebook.com/shreya.aren Shreya Aren

She needs to be kept away from that silhouette. I would love to see her in something slinky for a change.

    • ccm800

I’m over it. Its like a damn uniform at this point. The tights? A bow? Every SINGLE time? Come on.This one just flipped a switch for me. All my good nature for her and her damn tights are done.

    • neofashionista

I think T LO should refuse to post about Zoe until she stops wearing black tights and shoes like some sort of fashion boycott
it is a shame too because her eyes look particularly beautiful here

    • http://remedialstitcher.blogspot.com/ Sara Leigh Merrey

Ditch the black tights, Zoe. They don’t work with this dress. I’m a black tights gal, but even I wouldn’t wear them with this dress.

    • http://twitter.com/Kikishua Kikishua

One of the main problems for me is that the opaque black tights, teamed with the black shoes, makes the pale inside of those shoes really draw the eye.  Love the dress.  Would have preferred the belt Ellen P wore with that white dress at the People Choice instead of a bow belt (how Zooey!).

    • lrober03

The belt was definitely not needed
