WERQ: Kelly Rowland in Emilio Pucci

Posted on January 16, 2013

All things considered, this is a pretty simple look, but for pure BAM factor, you can’t beat it:

Kelly Rowland attends the BET Honors 2013 event in an Emilio Pucci dress paired with Charlotte Olympia pumps.

Emilio Pucci Fall 2012 Collection/Model: Daria Strokous

Charlotte Olympia Dolly Swarovski Pumps

A simple, sexy dress, basic shoes with a bit of sparkle to them, and pure Donna Summer hair. It’s a look – and right now, it’s her look. You WERQ it, girl.

As an homage, it’s brilliant, as a personal style choice, It’s f#cking genius.
You go gurl! “Save the Last Dance!”

    • Damn, she makes me wanna starch up the collar of my polo shirt, grab my metallic jeans and boogie oogie oogie till I just can’t boogie no more.

      • StellaZafella

Remember when Izod and Donna Summer were as synonymous as Triple Sec and Blue Curacao?

      • RedRaven617

I’ll go with you in my best disco outfit!

        • Right on!!!!!

          • Deb Oswald

            where are my platform shoes??

      • mjude

i am so ready to have some boogie fever & have the last dance with you!

        • We love the disco, the love to boogie,….

          • I’m the Freak of the Week, and a Disco Lovin’ Mama, so I’ll be there too, sporting the same hairdo in strawberry blonde that Ms. Rowland has. I finally found a salon product that doesn’t destroy my curls, and I’m sporting quite the Caucasian ‘fro these days, to my delight.

          • OMG! I wanna see!

  • Judy_J

She’s WERQing it all right, but I’m dying to reach into the photo and straighten the seam on her left sleeve.

  • kimmeister

Is anybody else unable to comment on the Jessica Simpson post right before this one?

Anyway, girlfriend looks HOT.  The slit is high but not up to her hipbone, like we’ve seen a bunch of times recently.  Also, the sheer slash on her bust (can’t tell if she has them on her hip too) look less vulgar on a darker skinned person.

    • The J Simp comments section issue has been fixed. Opinionate to your heart’s content.

      • kimmeister

        Merci beaucoup!

    • makeityourself

I couldn’t comment on JSimp either.   Wow.  That was something.

Anyway, I can’t call this a WERQ.  The cutouts-that-wouldn’t-die is beyond a trend now.  We’re going to start seeing it on preteen clothing at Justice if this keeps up.

I had to refresh my browser.

She looks great, but I wish she was wearing a better shoe.

  • marilyn

    Absolutely beautiful!

  • This is the one time when I think that below-knee length would work better. But generally brilliant. Gorgeous hair.

    • Introspective

I agree given the height of the slit- a little more length would have made the slit seem less stretched and a less obvious kind of sexy.

Still a minor quibble given how good she looks overall. Flaunt it girl. Cause it may not last for long. (Ask Jessica Simpson in the last post. How tragic did she look??)

  • ConnieBV

I will never stop hating on my mom for not marrying a man of color and letting me be blessed with a decent head of curly hair. LOVE.

    • Wendi126

I have a decent head of curly hair but it has never looked that good. And when it’s bad, oh my, it’s really bad.

    • JasmineAM

**sigh** I am black and my hair would never curl/fro like that. It’s just a mix of frizzy waves/curls.

  • Sobaika

  • TaurusKW

I think the dress looks much better on Kelly than on the runway model.

    • Karen Maslowski

Well, it doesn’t hurt that Ms. Rowland has a killer body.

  • GORGEOUS. Simply beautiful.

  • Rand Ortega

    GURL!!! Smokin’!
Donna’s smilin’, I just know it!

  • decormaven

Full on gorgeous. Wish she had worn a bit stronger bracelet or cuff, but that is more of a personal preference.

  • Violina23

see, now there’s a dress that looks infinitely better when the wearer has legitimate boobage 🙂

  • Imasewsure

Now that is how to wear those awesome shoes…. loving the whole casual Diva look with the 70’s flair

  • alyce1213

I’m not crazy about the dress, but I gotta admit, she looks great in it.  Love the disco hair.

  • Annabelle Archer

Perfection! Am I wrong for wishing for more sparkly shoe?

Can’t wait to see the dress-off during the upcoming Destiny’s Child CD release pole dance!

  • capybara_cafe

Now THAT is a well fitting dress. BAM indeed!

  • 3boysful

She looks slammin.  But is it the light, or is there some funky bracelet-ring combo on her right hand?  Or is she out on work release?

  • sorry but no werq for me :S

  • LOVE the hair. The makeup looks good, and the dress is simple yet sexy.

  • ojosazules

Not feeling this. Her lovely head looks like it squirted out of a tube.

  • Very pretty. Kind of mature, but not matronly.

  • CPK1

    fab. Love it. Love her.

  • Shut it down, sister! RIP, Donna.

  • Joyce VG

  • guest2visits

A perfect look.  And always an A+ smile too.

  • Le_Sigh

LOVE her hair like this!  She wears it so well.  And extra snaps for taking the extra cutouts away – that one in front is perf!

  • Trisha26

Take away the slit and the silly sparkle platform part of the shoe and I love it.

  • quiltrx

What is it with these ‘illusion slash’ dresses right now?  I mean, there’s nothing wrong with this one, I’m just already tired of seeing them.

  • Lisa M. (ReVoir) Kramp

From Disco heaven, Saint Donna smiles down.

  • boweryboy

Meh.  I might like it better if there was a bit more volume at the top of her head.

As it is, it seems like this is Kelly’s attempt to one up Solange who can rock that natural diva ‘fro like no other.

Kelly, you’re no Solange even if you’re good friends with her sistah.

  • TheLaurenJean

Ugh. So over tiger slashed dresses.

  • bluefish

Hate it.  What’s happening with those sleeves?   Those shoes are so over too.    No break between the big hair and the shoulders is doing her no favours either.  She looks dumpy.

I don’t know…. it’s more later in life Chaka Khan hair to me and just seems sooooo heavy.  The slashed dress is ok but maybe a little done? Not a bad look but not a WERQ from me, sorry!

  • Jessi03

I love it!  She looks amazing!

  • BrooklynBomber

I like platform shoes, but I’m not liking this cobbling together of platforms and stilettos — Frankenform? Platfenstein? — one bit. Okay, it was cute and clever the first couple of times, but only as an oddity. Now it’s just odd.

  • Alyssa Stanfield

I thank Solange for making that hair so awesome! Love this look!

  • crash1212

I don’t know how he did it, but Emilio Pucci has made me LOVE a slasher dress. I love the Slasher Collection. Kelly looks fierce although I just can’t with the bejeweled platforms. They are rapidly becoming the “nude shoe” of hate for me.

  • stubbornthoughts

It’s pictures like these that make me wish I had hair of the African persuasion.

Stupid Irish fine hair. Do something fun!

  • peachy

yuck. if you’re going to strut a slitted dress, you’d better have the gams to make that shit fierce. this lady, most decidedly, does NOT.

  • Jessica Goldstein

I hate shoes like that, but I love her hair and I love that dress on her. She looks fantastic.

  • ChelseaNH

I’d prefer it in a BAM color, but I’ll take it.

  • nicely done, girl. and i usually hate pucci. not sure if id give it a werq, tho.

  • librarygrrl64

As a curly-headed lass myself, I am ALL about the natural hair, but if she’s going to wear it natural I think she needs some layers or something. Her head looks like a window with curly black shutters.

  • ccm800

I abhor that hair on her already long face. Like sides shapes on either side of that shape (her face) take her straight to the farm .
