WERQ: Emmy Rossum in Carolina Herrera

Posted on January 11, 2013

Nothing sells a look like total confidence. Miss Emmy is positively brimming with “I look FABULOUS.”

Emmy Rossum attends 2013 Critics’ Choice Awards in a Carolina Herrera gown.

Carolina Herrera Pre-Fall 2013 Collection

And she really does. A beautiful gown topped off with beautiful hair and makeup and a killer pair of earrings. You WERQ that perfection, girl! We’ve never seen her looking so polished and perfect.

    • OneRing

Agreed; perfection!  That dress is witty but still super gorgeous!

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/Lucía-Gavello/1253586868 Lucía Gavello

From afar I didn’t realise the print was actually constellations, very cool! Her face looks stunning also!

      • NinaBoo

Totally agree but now I have “You are the sun, I am the moon, you are the words, I am the tune…play me” running through my mind. Neil Diamond and I thank you, Emmy.

    • Violina23

That star is a bit weird, but it’s a beautiful dress, I love it :)

      • gabbilevy

I could do without the one on the belt, but the shoulder treatment is cheeky and cute and I’m all for cheeky.

      • http://twitter.com/emilyf007 emily

The stars and moon on the shoulders are unnecessary, the one on the belt I can live with.

Edited to add: I actually can’t approve the one on the belt. It would be better without the star but it’s minor so I’m willing to over look it.

        • Violina23

I didn’t even notice the shoulders at first! My comment was directed at the belt one :P. The shoulders, I could go either way. Unnecessary, but it doesn’t detract from the look

    • MoHub

      Love the shoulder embellishments!

    • call_me_schmeg

      quite fab. here, here!

    • http://twitter.com/UberChicADee Diana Giese

Such an amazing, creative and unique dress. Love the whole look.

    • lovelyivy

She is perfect from head to toe! I wish I could borrow her makeup people for like five minutes to talk me through that eye liner- I can never get that flick at the outer corner to come out right!

      • In_Stitches

Something tells me having someone else do it for you helps quite a bit.

      • Vfor

i put a piece of tape along the side/under my eye on the diagonal. then i do my shadow and eyeliner. then peel the tape off. voila! perfect clean line.

        • lovelyivy

Thanks! I am so using that tip for my next gala/benefit/ok no probably just going to the movies with the homies.

          • http://twitter.com/foodycatAlicia foodycatAlicia

Put the tape on the back of your hand first and pull it off a couple of times – makes it less sticky so it doesn’t drag your skin. Also, don’t try to apply your liner with your eye shut, tilt your head back so you are peering down your nose and keep both eyes open, it helps keep it even on both sides.

Let’s kidnap whoever it is and make them teach us. We shan’t release them until we have all mastered it.

    • Judy_J

Love this!  Absolutely gorgeous and flawless. I love the constellations on the bodice!

    • teensmom99

Well done pattern on the RC.  and she figured out how to wear killer earrings with a dress that has its own jeweled things going on. BTW, when I say she figured out I mean her stylists.

    • Nicholas

She usually does her own styling, as I recall. Pretty awesome lady.

Of course, it almost ten years, since she was shooting Phantom of the Opera, so you learn a thing or two, I guess.

    • Sobaika

I don’t particularly love the dress (the embellishments on the shoulders and belt kind of ruin it for me) and not a fan of her makeup, but the overall look adds up to more than the sum of its parts. I love that she is wearing a print!

    • http://twitter.com/SillyGrrlJen Silly Grrl

      Gorgeous! I love Shameless!!

    • mjude

the more i look at the dress the more i like.  WERQ

    • Golfkat

Very appropriate for her upcoming movie Beautiful Creatures – it’s got something to do with witches and “16 moons”, so the dress is right on theme. Gorgeous!

    • Mary229

      Absolute perfection.

      • girliecue

    • http://twitter.com/PhDKnitter marlie

She sort of annoys me, but there’s no denying that she looks *GORGEOUS* here. Brava, Emmy.

      • Adriana_Paula

        Seconded on all points.

    • http://twitter.com/Elizabethann1 Elizabeth Denton

I love that people are saying this is creative and cheeky. Its a simple, beautiful dress and she looks great.

    • http://profiles.google.com/scaponigro Sarah Caponigro

      Love it.

    • http://twitter.com/unflinchingly Lindsey Romain

I remember seeing that dress in one of your posts and positively FAWNING over it. It’s so gorgeous. I was hoping someone would wear it this awards season – Emmy was the perfect person to scoop it up!

    • pattyw

I saw a photo of Emmy with the skirt floating like it does on the runway. Gorgeous!

    • SewingSiren

Very beautiful. The earrings look like they are by the same designer as the ones Octavia Spencer was wearing . Irene Neuwirth is getting around.

    • Introspective

just stunning. no complaints here. except that maybe a more important awards ceremony might have required such a dress…

but werq girl. youve set the bar high for the rest of awards season.

    • Imasewsure

Beautiful and it actually looks comfortable too. Makeup is fun

    • greyhoundgirl

Beautiful, beautiful dress and she wears it well.  The only thing I might change is the star on the belt–makes it look a bit juvenile to me.

    • jw_ny

She does look fabulous…dress, hair, and makeup! And, she certainly is beaming…which accounts for a lot too.  I typically dislike the cat eye makeup, but looks great on her here.

    • charlotte

Girl, that is SO your dress!

    • Alexina04

The fit of this dress on her is absolutely incredible. That alone would make it deserving of a WERQ. She looks stunning.

    • SassieCassy

man she is pretty. the mermaid type hair works for her

    • Jacqueline Wessel

Glad to see so many lady stars with big gorgeous earrings.

    • PastryGoddess

Can we just give her a WERQ for learning how to pose with her mouth closed

She really does have the old hollywood glamour thing locked DOWN!

    • Lilithcat

I love that dress!  But I’d take one of the brooches off the neckline, probably the crescent moon.  I prefer a bit of asymmetry.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1401197785 Jennifer Peters-Ahnberg

I want that dress so damn bad.

    • Pants_are_a_must

Oh my god, is that dress pattern star constellations? MUST. HAVE.

      Also, the earrings.

      Good on her.

    • filmcricket

      LOVE it, holy crap.

As an aside, I am amused that the model looks rather like a young Renee Z, since she wears Herrera so much.

    • FrayedMachine

She looks absolutely darling in this. Almost didn’t recognize her in some shots, but absolutely stunning nonetheless!

    • MilaXX

For some reason this dress reminds me of “I sing the body electric.”
      Very pretty.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_JSGAZPEESHQT47ATH55GNOHHBY Erin

Somehow she manages to come off queenly instead of just smug.  Maybe her ego can be contained by nothing less than perfection?

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1303837450 Lauren Dorsee Dillon

Wow! I’d love to be able to makeup my eyes perfectly like hers.

    • http://phantomminuet.blogspot.com/ MinAgain

    • m0r0

hate the nude lipstick but other than that a beautiful look

    • Hetha Innis

She’s stunning! I saw a roundtable interview with her recently on youtube and absolutely loved her personality. She seems as smart and sweet (and humble) as she is beautiful.

    • Thomas See

didnt emmett get auf’d for the skating rink version of this dress?

    • ankali

I’d like this dress a lot more without the crafty embellishments. Beautiful otherwise, though. I especially love the color of the earrings.

    • Nonmercisansfacon

      Beautiful. Rien à critiquer.

    • julnyes

      Love it!

    • Tamara Hogan

    • mhleta

Who would be so bold as to take the very firmament that holds the stars and wear it as a gown? A goddess, that’s who. Genuflecting. Deeply genuflecting.

    • Annabelle Archer

Again with that ear ring.  Did they just make a bunch with different colored stones and pass them out?
Taylor, Octavia, Emmy.  All so similar.

    • stubbornthoughts

I am in love with her. GAH!

    • MarissaLG

It’s a LITTLE much, but she still looks phenomenal.

    • decormaven

Stunning; brava for use of large earrings.

    • Calinda_L

I love how her she is so giddy in some of these pictures. It almost takes away from the “I’m a chic movie star who looks amazing” effect, but it’s just so endearing! I’m not wild about all the appliques on the shoulders, but I am so wild about everything else that this is a major WERQ! I’m also going to save this picture for the next time I have my makeup done for an event. Fab!

    • http://twitter.com/peacebang Victoria Weinstein

I just want to thank all these gorgeous lady stars for making my afternoon. She looks stunning, and I have never been a fan. It’s all very moon goddessy.

    • Wendi126

Love her. Love this look. Her eyebrows are sublime

    • librarygrrl64

I LOVE everything about this gown! Herrera is still my favorite. :-)

    • J. Preposterice

that dress, it is to die for.

    • Sara__B

She’s near the top of my Irrational Dislike List, so it pains me to agree with the WERQ.

    • Lilak

Jennifer Lawrence may get the Sexy WERQ, but Miss Rossum gets the Elegant WERQ for sure.  This is just head-to-toe breathtaking.

    • B_C_J

BEAUTIFUL!!! Carolina Herrera designs clothes that are simply breathtaking. Ms. Rossum looks glorious.

    • Lisa M. (ReVoir) Kramp

Wish we could have seen the dress in motion. Not fond of the moon and stars on the shoulders, but the rest of the look is solid. Still tired of mermaid har.

    • joancarol

Ummm… did she have work done on her nose?

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_QFW22QV426LUOEPGASPZJWJMDE MishaFoomin

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_OD35QQZNBPZJXWTCBY7N4EE7VY Sarah

Forgive me: this dress looks like what Twilight Sparkle wanted Rarity to make her in an episode of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic.

      also I love it.

    • http://profile.yahoo.com/PZJXF5ET5W5PMUIIGTTNOKHVSY Ka T

What a beautiful dress- it’s classic with wonderful the star appliques giving it whimsy.  Then I saw the overlay print.  Now I’m in love.  How many week’s salary is it?

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_F73LIJ3SJGI5AJQMXMWXCKILHI Pamela

Anyone else think at first the model picture was Taylor Swift?

      • joancarol

    • http://twitter.com/foodycatAlicia foodycatAlicia

That dress is pretty much my fantasy ballgown. I want the crescent moon to be on the same side as the stars though.

    • unbornfawn

      Confidence. A great accessory.

    • http://www.facebook.com/NadiyaOsmani Pudgy Possum

Beautiful, indeed. But I find the stars and constellations are just plain cheesy. Couldn’t they have put a different patten on that beautiful material?

    • dgh

The stars and moon make me think Herrera should have received Emilio’s workroom criticism in the let’s-go-to-Paris challenge – lose the gewgaws and it’s perfect. He did and it almost was.

    • quiltrx

I just love her RC looks in general, but she REALLY knocked this one out of the park!  Hair and makeup are perfect…and she really knows how to carry herself.  “Carriage” seems to be a subtlety most starlets these days lack.

And this dress…well, it’s just pretty darned magical!  LOVE the constellation fabric and the little stars.  And a Dior-ish shape is always a hit with me.

    • Frank Lithium

      Adorable and super elegant.

    • Fordzo

I wish she’d been cast as Fantine. She sings so beautifully.

    • PaulaBerman

Gorgeous girl, great dress, but why does she ALWAYS look like she’s smirking?

    • MissAmynae

She looks like a grown-up! I think a lot of her looks come off young and prom-y, but this is absolutely gorgeous, gasp-worthy.

    • ZnSD

    • guest2visits

Beautiful! Two playful and imaginative takes on the elegant gown (Kerry in the Giles with the running horses) and this Herrera with
      the constellations; love-love them both.

    • R. L.

Love it!  This is such a clean but girlish and happy look without screaming it out in primary colors.

    • RocknRollmom

Whimsy and stunning.  Hard to pull off but beautifully done here.  One of the few Herrera gowns I have said “I want” to.  A definite WERQ.  And did Rossum have to wrestle Zellweger for the dress?

    • alyce1213

The dress is exquisite, perfect for her.
I appreciate that her makeup artist did a cat’s eye, but softened it so it doesn’t look heavy and too ’60s black. The lipstick might have been a bit deeper, but overall, she looks gorgeous.

    • donnaINseattle

Put this on the list for Top Looks of 2013.

    • kategs

I love the details on that gown!  She looks superb.

    • Northern_Light_27

I’m so in love with that dress!

    • Iroqhard

Y’all don’t even understand I HAVE WANTED SUCH A DRESS SINCE I WAS A SMALL CHILD. Like, a dress with constellations on it all sparkly and shit. And then at the end of the movie in my wee head I would rise into the firmament and become one with the night sky. GIVE ME MY IMAGINARY DRESS BACK EMILY ROSSUM!

    • http://figgylicious.blogspot.com/ Figgy

That’s one of the most beautiful dresses I’ve ever seen. The close-up on the details made me squee.

    • formerlyAnon

I love the whimsy of the constellations combined with the larger stars, and the earrings ARE good. Well deserved WERQ. And a ‘yay’ for Herrera. It’s a great dress.

    • http://cheekypinky.wordpress.com cheekypinky

      Oh, I love that dress!

    • littlemac8

Oooooh ahhhhh, I just saw this!  Gorgeous!

    • http://www.facebook.com/henry.maler Henry Maler

This is how a lady WERQs it. She looks absolutely stunning.
