    • VioletFem

She looks AMAZING! Playful, yet still elegant. Glad she got rid of those ridiculous tassels in the front.

      • notterriblybitter

I agree on all points. The tassels make the model look like she’s wearing a TV cabinet you’d buy at Pier 1.

        • Carrieanno

They’re there to go with the Pier 1 goblet on her head.

          • http://profiles.google.com/dorothymichael Dorothy & Michael n/a

Thank God she didn’t go with the Pier 1 goblet.  (Thx for that – I was going to call it a giant Bed Bath and Beyond candle holder)

      • Jennifer Coleman

I can imagine her regally directing the Armani team to “Remove those …tassels…..and send the dress to me.”

      • ballerinawithagun

Yes, the tassels definitely sent it into the “costume” realm. Absolutely stunning.

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/Lucía-Gavello/1253586868 Lucía Gavello

You have to be freaking REGAL to look so elegant with that much boob on display, good lord this woman is magnificent. A shout out to those fabulous earrings too!

        • http://robot-heart.tumblr.com heartbot

It’s because the fit is IMPECCABLE.

      • ersmom

I was reminded of windshield wipers when I saw the runway version. Not a good image.

    • http://twitter.com/Lily1129 Lily

*falls at her feet* *begs for mercy*
      I mean GOOD LORD

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/Josefina-Madariaga-Suárez/100002964685796 Josefina Madariaga Suárez

WE DON’T DESERVE HER, WE DON’T DESERVE HER

        • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

And we are Sooooooo grateful that we may occasionally bask in her glory.

          • bitchybitchybitchy

And grovel at the precisely and correctly hemmed garment she is wearing.

            • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

every aspect of the fit is perfection.

      • http://twitter.com/wtvoc this is wtvoc.

        omg it’s you

        • http://twitter.com/Lily1129 Lily

          Fancy seeing you here :P

    • drdirection

      sigh…

    • lehen

Holy smokes, she looks AMAZING!!  Its like if Minnie Mouse was SUPER HOT.  in a good way.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1452676110 Myra Oviatt

The dress is fab and intense. But I do wish she’d dialed her make-up UP to better match the look.

    • RzYoung

      Uh…. !! speh… ama…wah. Wow

    • Nicholas

      She must be part Elvish.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Josefina-Madariaga-Suárez/100002964685796 Josefina Madariaga Suárez

BAM! WE SHALL ALL LOVE HER AND DESPAIR!

Better than a Red Bull, better than an electric shot. I’ll print these pictures to make a shrine in my room, so I can pray for fierceness every morning.

      AMEN

    • butter nut

holy fucking shit she looks incredible.

    • http://twitter.com/foodycatAlicia foodycatAlicia

Holy cow. This is a woman with three kids. So glad she got to this dress before Kate Winslet.

      • Pennymac

Seriously? THREE KIDS? How’d she get her boobs to do that?

        • Mexxoo

          Elven Magic, of course!

        • http://twitter.com/foodycatAlicia foodycatAlicia

           Force of personality.

    • schoep

She looks gorgeous but does not she not have amazingly large ears?

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/Josefina-Madariaga-Suárez/100002964685796 Josefina Madariaga Suárez

Those are elvish ears, for she’s a godess, not human.

        • Introspective

seriously. there is something perfect about a dress that appears to have its own forcefield of light shining around it gracing the goddess form that is Cate.

I saw this and woke my sleepy ass up. FIERCE.

          • http://www.facebook.com/people/Josefina-Madariaga-Suárez/100002964685796 Josefina Madariaga Suárez

Me too! Truly, that dress is her goddess armor.

    • lexilexi

      What a bod – what a dress… but I don’t care for her hair… a bit flat or something…

      • Jill Morino

Agree with you on the hair. The volume of her bangs needs to be better balanced out. Other than that? PERFECTION! And now I’m going to go work out…

      • kimmeister

In the 2nd-to-last shot you can clearly see that it’s just knotted in an elastic tie in the back.  If that’s not yoga hair, I don’t know what is.

        • http://robot-heart.tumblr.com heartbot

I think it works. With a dress like that, you really don’t need hair at all.

      • medijie

I think the dress is absolutely stunning.  However, I agree about the hair.  I am not getting the comb-over bang looks that have been popping up on the RC.

    • Fordzo

      Wow.

I’m glad she ix-nayed the tassels.  And I’m not sold on the hem.  It’s a little Judy Jetson for me.

    • LaSylphide

I can’t think of another being in this segment of the universe who could pull this off. Way to go, Cate. Blastoff!

      • MoHub

         Maybe The Swinton.

        • Anne At Large

I feel contractually obligated to add La Saldana to this list. They are my top three Dress-Wearers Without Bing Bing In Their Name.

        • http://www.aquatique.net/ Athena

There was some Swintonian vibes when I scrollwed through. They must be from the same alternate dimension.

    • GorgeousThings

Now THAT’s the kind of mermaid hem I can get behind.

    • Tatiana Luján

I was missing her. Didn’t she go to any Hollywood awards ceremony?

    • http://www.facebook.com/carrie.mansfield.71 Carrie Mansfield

My jaw dropped, she is that stunning. The dropping of the tassel was completely the right call.

    • alyce1213

So glad she declined the frogs and tassels and did a long earring.  What a spectacular garment, worthy of Cate.
      (The shoes, meh.)

      • fursa_saida

Yeah, I wish they were matte and pointy. Then I’d be happy. (Happier.)

    • hmariec19

      I am not worthy.

    • antheapena

a werq to start the day and WHAT a werq

    • Jessica Rigden

When she got to the stage to present her award she said it had taken her 15 minutes to get up the stairs and she had tried to get an escalator put in, then complained about being unfit – gotta love her!

    • afabulous50

I’m not even worthy to VIEW these photos!  Bow the Fuck down…bow down…I mean it…do it..

    • thecitysleeps

      HOLY SHIT.

    • filmcricket

Not totally sold on this. I don’t think the shoulders are doing her any favours, and I really don’t like either her hair or her make-up. Nor am I sure that’s her colour. But her bod is fantastic, and she is working that dress like it owes her back rent, so well done there.

    • SapphoPoet

      SO SAY WE ALL.

That is one fierce dress. Glad she removed the geegaws from the middle.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1396777506 Christin Pardy-Nosenchuk

I do not like the shoes or length of gown. Other than that, yes.

    • CPK1

OMG, i love everything about this (except maybe the shoes). She looks stunning, the hair and make-up are perfect. She should give a master-class to aspiring starlets

    • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

      Holy suffering CATS!
(bowing low before the awesome that is Cate)

    • B_C_J

Fashion and art blended effortlessly and perfectly together. PERFECTION!

    • Vaniljekjeks

Flaw free.  She’s putting the model to SHAME.

    • Little_Olive

      Oh. Wow.

That is a wee bit more boob than I would like to see but really, she does it with such class.

      I bow to thee.

    • greyhoundgirl

Wow–what a way to wake up the morning.  Fabulous!

    • http://www.ellenciompi.com/ NurseEllen

One tiny quibble: is that really a covered rubber band holding back her hair at the nape of her neck? The kind that comes in the 15 for $1 pack?

A little extra pop to the makeup would not have overdone this look. Earrings are perfect, the dress is spectacular, and she has the regal bearing of self-assurance. Brava, Queen Cate!

      • IamstillAnonymous

I don’t think it’s such a “tiny quibble.”  There’s more to being well put-together than just looking good in an expensive gown that was probably handed to you.  Her lack of effort to finish the look makes it half-assed, and, therefore, not “werq” worthy in my book.

    • SewingSiren

She can really rock a difficult dress. With over done hair and make-up this dress could have veered very quickly into cheap and tacky. The way she has styled it, it’s damn near perfect. I do think the neckline would look much better if it were closed  enough to not reveal the under part of her breast.

    • Kyle Crawford

      I love our Church.

    • eowyn_of_rohan

Serving up regal fierceness.  Perfection on a plate.

    • MilaXX

      Fabulous!

    • http://remedialstitcher.blogspot.com/ Sara Leigh Merrey

Exquisite. Glad she opted out on the stupid bow-type thingy.

    • nannypoo

This is an interesting and beautiful choice. No one else could wear it as well. I wish I could feel that fabric. It’s strange and looks like a product of recycling, but it makes a spectacular dress.

    • Lisa M. (ReVoir) Kramp

      Ave, Ave Cate….

    • Monabel

Wonderful! She temporarily redeems the inner-boob-display.

    • Targettaste

She’s drop-dead gorgeous, but the hem and shoulders look cartoonish, and I wish her hair wasn’t such a harsh style.

    • Ms. Schmidt

My god, she looks beyond amazing.

    • http://twitter.com/DarthJaeda Jaeda Laurez

She DID that. Everything is right, including getting rid of that ugly embellishment in the front. It is me, or have the last few Armani Prive’ collections been hella shiny?

      • bookish

It reminds me of the blue Armani Prive dress Anne Hathaway wore while hosting the Oscars.

    • Kathy_Marlow

She looks amazing! I like that the earrings sort of reference the tassels that were on the dress previously.  The alteration made it all the better.

    • Monabel

      Wonderful! Temporarily redeems inner-boob-display.

    • http://profile.yahoo.com/37TPKASIMXVUPYK5BNQFOL43KU Carina

She is indeed a goddess. AMEN.

    • bookish

Usually I don’t care for that much cleavage, but she’s pulling it off really well. I love that shiny look and the flair at the bottom.

    • Tatiana Luján

On any other person, this dress would have looked as a dress that came out of a Project Runway unconventional materials challenge. On her, it is a WERQ.
I love that the visible little wrinkles on her face are the ones caused by smiling.

    • thesevenendless

Wow, Cate deserves all of the WERQs in the land.

Um, just one comment about the dress; is it just me or do the materials and the stiff construction make it look like an arts and crafts project?  Either way, Cate still looks fantastic.

      • Kimbolina

The dress itself, the stiffness plus shininess, makes me think of the duct tape prom dresses girls make to enter the duct tape scholarship contest…

And yet Cate looks AMAZING.  It’s magical, really.

    • Unkempt

Glad the curtain tiebacks were moved to her shell-like ears, where they belong.  What a nice way to start the day.

    • teensmom99

      & no illusion netting.

    • Janet B

Brava. The earrings reference the tassels nicely.
The original tassels take the dress into cartoon land.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Alexandra-Glorioso/10025811 Alexandra Glorioso

Holy Jesus – this is an unbelievable dress and woman!

    • appliquer

Absolutely stunning. 90% of the women on the red carpet should bow down and take lessons from her.

    • Judy_J

So glad she ditched the bow!   She looks amazing!

    • twocee

      Wow.

      That is all.

    • http://twitter.com/Nancer Nancer

      Amazing.

    • http://hearmeintheharmony.wordpress.com/ Melanie

She looks amazing, truly, but I really hate the hem length.  I wish it went to the floor.

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/Jessica-TallGirl-Freeman/1043623567 Jessica TallGirl Freeman

Agreed, for some reason it seems a little bit cartoon-ish. Different, but I’m not so sure I like it.

    • PastryGoddess

      DAYUM!

      All Hail Goddess Cate

    • PeggyOC

Bowing the fuck down.  And the removal of the tassels was a great call.

    • tereliz

What an amazing dress! She is killing it so hard I had to do a double take when I saw the runway version. So much more modern without those frog-clasp/tassels/whatever. Somehow that baroque, overdone, opulent look that was all over the runways last year just does not translate to real life without looking kitch and old-fashioned.

    • sweetlilvoice

      Damn!

    • bertkeeter

It’s a bit ” Tea House of the August Moon” …..but SHE looks beautiful!

    • BrooklynBomber

Yowza! Plus: give me those earrings, Blanch!

    • Annabelle Archer

      I hate the hair.
I love, adore and worship the rest.  Welcome back Cate, please come to the Oscars!

    • Merneith

This is Cate Blanchett’s Super Hero dress. She wears this dress under all her other outfits and then, when the Cate Signal goes up, she rips off her Every Day disguise and this is what she’s wearing underneath before she sales off to rescue.

Nicole Kidman should really put up the signal, next time.

    • anne.landre

Shazam! especially digging the hemline treatment.

    • LadyCelia

Is it just me, or is it reminiscent of the Mars Attacks dress?

    • Lilithcat

Love the dress.  At first I wasn’t sure about removing the tasseled frogs, but then I saw that she put them on her ears.  Brilliant!

Her face, on the other hand, looks as tight and shiny as the dress.  Not good.

    • Anne At Large

The first words that came to mind were all swear words. Ho Lee Shit, Woman.

    • f_yeah_marie

YES!  I saw these photos earlier today and I simply knew they would wind up in a T Lo post.  I am not worthy, Queen Cate

    • quiltrx

Wow.  BOW DOWN, BITCHES!!!  That is one hell of a dress, and she is definitely WERQing the shit out of it.

    • http://twitter.com/MarfMom Maya

      that. is fabulous.

    • SugarSnap108

Well hot damn, she looks gorgeous.  Normally, I think shoulders like that would bug me, but she somehow commands them.

And so glad she removed the crotch washers the model is sporting (the tassels and the way they swing side-to-side remind me of a car wash).

    • poggi

Wow.  Color, shiny, sexy.  She looks great.

    • Eva_baby

      To.  Die!

    • AuntieAnonny

      Holy. Shit.

    • http://twitter.com/urban_gypsy Tess Danesi

BAM! Stunning. So stunning I can’t form words.

    • mjude

i am bowing the fuck down!

    • http://twitter.com/PhDKnitter marlie

      DAYUM. Gorgeous.

    • formerlyAnon

Leaving off the tassels was brilliant. This is AWESOME.

    • jw_ny

WOW! Lady in red is sexy…this is how a woman with class does it!

This is a case of boobs and cleavage on display that I’m ok with…they’re well contained, well supported, not smashed, and no baby heads.

    • Call me Bee

Fabulous!  I wonder if that fabric is comfortable… Can she sit?
I just wonder these kinds of things when a dress is so perfectly form-fitting…

    • http://www.facebook.com/seelebrennt Christina Diaz

this woman is Dean of the FASHIONWITHACAPITALF Department at Style U.  jesus christ.

    • bitchybitchybitchy

Bow down. SHE who must be adored is in the house.

    • snarkykitten

she looks like she’s wearing a fruit roll-up

      a fabulous looking fruit roll-up

      • j_anson

        This.

    • marilyn

It is all great from the neck down.  Her face and hair fade out.  She is too pale and fair to wear this dress, unless she seriously ramps up the makeup.

    • Le_Sigh

      fan-fucking-fabulous!

    • TropiCarla

“Instead of a Dark Lord, you shall have A QUEEN! … LOVE ME AND DESPAIR!”

    • http://asskickingadviser.com/ Ass Kicking Adviser

Wowie! I’m too speechless to say anything else.
Ok, I can muster a ‘thank god they got rid of the tassle.’

    • stubbornthoughts

Holy fuck. This deserves a special WERQ award, because that shiny dress shouldn’t work, but on Queen Cate it’s an absolute masterpiece.

    • prettybigkitty

She is a goddess well deserving of our prayer and worship!  Amen!!

    • ccm800

      Cheese and crackers!!!!!!!! Voila!!!

    • mhleta

I realize I’m going to stand alone in this, but, God, NO! This is just wayyyy too much look for her. There’s a huge disconnect between the dress and her face. This is not to say she doesn’t have a great face. It just doesn’t go with this comic book heroine dress.

    • UglyTalents

And God said “Let there be no more tassles.” And there were no more tassles. And it was good.

      • UglyTalents

(I’m with you guys on this: Total choirs of angels.)

    • beebee10

I lay prostrate before her. Be merciful, oh queen.

    • Jecca2244

Someone please send this photo of how to make your boobs NOT look like pancakes to Alicia Keys.

    • Kate4queen

That is a fierce dress being worn with all the necessary confidence in the world!

    • http://robot-heart.tumblr.com heartbot

I saw this elsewhere this morning and all I could think was, “PLEASE LET THIS BE ON TOM AND LORENZO THIS MORNING.”

I’m satisfied, both with the dress and with this blog.

    • Nancy Dunn

I do love her, but I don’t love to see so much of her boobs. I think the neckline is better on the model, although I am very glad she lost the tassels!!

    • BigWhiteGrannyPanties

Love it but I want stronger makeup.  Like a red lip.  But otherwise, I bow.   I love her.

    • Zippypie

Thank you, TLo!  I bow, I worship, I scrape the ground.  THIS IS HOW IT IS DONE.

    • http://theargiehome.blogspot.com/ Gus Casals

She can do things mere human beings cannot do

    • Elizabeth Silverstein

Glory Hallelujah! I bow down to her glory.

    • http://twitter.com/Bookmanfilm BookManFilm

Dear Nicole,  this is how a star dresses.  And no plastic face, bonus.

    • lalahartma

      Wow!

    • CeeQ

Thank you Jesus for giving Cate the divine vision to get rid of the belly tassels from the runway version.

    • Airkisses

She is so stunning. She, Rachel Weisz, and Marillon Cotillard never fail to make me gasp in awe and jealous rage :)

    • KELLEYKAT

Wow, Nicole Kidman was WAAAY off the mark in her dress if the event was this formal.  Cate Blanchett has it so together!

Even when she wears something that isn’t quite right, she has such confidence or humor to make it work!  She is one of the few celebs that I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to be friends with!  Imagine hanging out drinking wine and chatting! Would be AMAZING fun!

    • Stubenville

Wow! That’s tight and shiny! I guess Heidi passed because it’s not short?

    • l_c_ann

      I love the look.

Can anyone explain how the fluffy bottom of the skirt was constructed?

      • alyce1213

Wire, or something like it – stiff and slightly bendy

      • Corsetmaker

It could also be horsehair braid. That combined with the sequins could give that effect. Especially if the fabric is interfaced.

    • Warrior89

      Beyond fabulous.  Lovelovelove.

    • kschwarting

I really don’t like that dress, so it is a sign of Cate’s fabulousness that she is making it WERQ.

    • Leslie Kim

“In the place of a Dark Lord you would have a Queen! Not dark but beautiful and terrible as the Morn! Treacherous as the Seas! Stronger than the foundations of the Earth! All shall love me and despair!”  ayup.

    • http://profile.yahoo.com/DNWEFT2SVBX5T3NPMROQCT4U2U jennyv

AMAZING. I literally gasped when I saw this picture.

    • http://twitter.com/aidanboleyn Aidan B

God DAMN. Now that is what I call fabulous. I worship at the altar of Cate.

    • Corsetmaker

Exemplary! And I love her so much for having a real face, with laughter lines and mobility and all the things that make a person really deep down beautiful.

    • fiestyfashionfem

LOVE the dress.  Hate the curling iron bang.

    • MzzPants

      Praise the Lord!

    • kikisayshi

      Oh My Goddess!

    • mommyca

The sound of a choir of angels is the best way to honor this outfit…. Words cannot describe it….

    • http://twitter.com/#!/Space_Kitty Space Kitty

      DAMN GIRL.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1208138556 Sara Munoz Munoz

      WOWZA.

    • http://twitter.com/cornekopia Shawn EH

For once the actress’s changes actually improve the garment. She looks a bit like Olive Oyl out on the town, but in a hot way!

    • e jerry powell

Part of me kind of wants to see this look on Christina Hendricks.  I don’t know why.

    • EEKstl

The Great Cate doesn’t typically do a lot of boobiage so may I say: VA-VOOM.  Kudos for her not wearing the dress with those silly tassels, and perfect earring choice.  WERQ?  Of course!

    • Cheri Lee

      DAMN GRRRRRRL!

    • decormaven

      Rockin’ that look! Happy sigh.

    • thesixthbeatle

Wow, just wow. I hate the hair though.

    • Trisha26

The gown is striking but the shoes, hair and makeup are not doing a thing for me. Quite the opposite.

    • Mary229

Cate Blanchett is a queen and the rest of us are just her subjects.

    • http://twitter.com/dollsaga Dollsaga

oh, mine, Red Goldfish in West Lake, Hangzhou, China.

    • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gabriella M

Armani Prive always has a sort of sci-fi appeal to me for some reason. It just feels futuristic, often. This is perfection.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_F73LIJ3SJGI5AJQMXMWXCKILHI Pamela

I would’ve liked the black accent on the dress MINUS the tassels to break up the expanse of what looks like red scales.  She looks great; one of the few who can pull off this look.

    • calimon

My God, she outdoes the model on the runway! …and it was a good move to ditch the tummy-tassels.

    • http://www.facebook.com/NadiyaOsmani Pudgy Possum

She makes the dress look better than when it was on the model. I always love that.

    • http://vhanna26.typepad.com Vera

      Fabulous!  This bitch is bowing,

    • libraangel

I do see what you mean in your WERQ, and thank the Lord she took off those hideous tassels, but something seems wrong anyway. I don’t know what it is. Hair? Face? Too shiny? I don’t know; help me, fellow bitter kittens!

      • Lilak

Gotta agree with your notions. (1) The hair, which I appreciate in theory (it does sorta resonate with the design of the gown) but not in the execution; and (2) What got my attention first-and-worst: those two giant shiny blobs of color (matching her lipstick?!) on her cheeks.

    • Laylalola

      Removing the elaborate headpiece and closure for this dress made a huge difference of course;
but I still don’t think there are many besides Cate who could wear this successfully.

      Wow.

My first thought was that this is who January Jones keeps trying to be.  That said, I’m with a couple of others that something is just a bit off for me.  And yet, she does exude fabulousness, even though I think it’s off, which has me sort of … confused.  So that’s good?  Hmm.

I knew this was a WERQ from the title, but when I scrolled down I literally said “Ooh, BAM!” to my computer screen.

    • SophieCollier

Gah, her body is unbelievable.  She looks better than the model, for sure.

She is one of the few that can show boobs and still look classy. One of the few that can actually carry off the shape of the dress.

    • PeaceBang

      Now that’s church.
