Versace Fall 2013 Menswear Collection

Posted on January 16, 2013

Attention whores and slutty boys to the runway, please! As always, the Versace men’s collection is not for the faint of heart, nor for those who want to appeal to them. It’s all PRINTS ! and CHECKS! and SHOULDERS! and FUR! and ABS! with this crowd.  And yes, your eyes did spy lacy underwear for the lads. Do not question or dismiss, darlings. Best to just accept it, get out of the way, and enjoy the parade of peacocks passing by.

If all men dressed like this, the world would be such a fun place! Sigh…

      • Sarah Thomas

Do keep in mind that ‘all men’ would kind of by definition include your dad.

        • http://www.twitter.com/allforusophia AllForUSophia

Sure. That would in fact be awesome!

          • YourBaloneyDontGotNoSecondName

            And Josh.

            • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

No problem. He already dresses like that.

            • Derek_anny

               And the Duchess.

            • Dave Jeje

He really needs that, specially on-camera

        • http://CallMeJane.com/ CallMeJane

It’s interesting, I thought of about five very different men in my life, scrolled through the photos, and found something for all of them.  The variety of outrageous is huge with this collection.

          • formerlyAnon

Yes, the crazy leaps front and center, but there’s actually a lot here that would fit into even a fairly conservative dresser’s closet.

        • http://twitter.com/purpleprose78 purpleprose78

I think my dad did own and wear that top middle suit in the 70s. It may have had a bit more red in it, but it was close.  :)  I agree that the world would be more fun if all men dressed like this.

      • bluefish

So true!  World peace might actually be a possibility — for real.

    • trisker

      It all looks gangtsa

      • http://twitter.com/madscntst Ernie Guzman

        Gangsta?  Really?  From what neighborhood?

        • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1355527007 Rain Jezek

I can see gangster, but more prohibition era.

    • ChiKat67

Donatella is fucking with us. She has to be!

      • MilaXX

I’d pay good money for a make celeb  to wear one of those suits in the last 3 rows on a RC.

        • http://profile.yahoo.com/KBNJ6GJTXYEE6BON3WGK6KEGT4 Elizabeth

Yes, please. When I saw these, my first thought was, “How I wish some dude would wear one of these outfits to one of the many awards shows this season.” He would definitely be the talk of the evening! Who do you think could rock it?

          • http://www.twitter.com/allforusophia AllForUSophia

My money is on Ewan McGregor!

            • MissAmynae

He would be extra-delicious in the grey and blue one.

          • StellaZafella

             Depp..if he didn’t over-accessorize.

          • http://www.facebook.com/people/Lucía-Gavello/1253586868 Lucía Gavello

I’d say Alan Cumming but that’s really not fair because he can wear anything… maybe J-Lo can have his boy-toy dress as her bridegroom again ;)

            • http://CallMeJane.com/ CallMeJane

For Cumming, any of the plaid for sure – that first plaid suit in particular.  He was the first person I thought of.

          • Lisa M. (ReVoir) Kramp

The host, Seth McFarlane. He could pull those looks off.

      • http://twitter.com/lisledanielle Danielle Lisle

Donatella is fucking those models, not us.

    • homofascist

Oooooooo – the first row had promise.

      • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

Right? Most of the suits are gorgeous.

        • StellaZafella

Some suits might turn heads in the usual sense…but most of this is Gayer Than Gaga.
Tho’, come to think of it…some might make interesting drag in my Dyker than Thou mood.

          • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

I think I can safely speak for the BKs and say we’d ALL like to see pics of that!!!

            • formerlyAnon

              Well, YEAH!

I think we’d be amazed were we all given a chance to see how brightly many of us shine, in our own different ways.

            • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

It would be very cool indeed.

    • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

Oh Lord, can you imagine some of the commentary that passes back and forth between the models? “Evan, did you see what they are putting, Giovanni in?” “I know girl, my slutty little sister wouldn’t be caught dead in that.”

That said there are a few beautiful pieces to be gleaned from the crazy.

      • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1316070988 Roey Thorpe

I thought exactly the same thing.  I’ll bet those models–especially in the sheer onesies–were whimpering inside.

        • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

thing is, regarding the lacy bits?  I find that stuff not in the least degree sexy, or even edgy.  It just looks hilarious to me, because the models are really doing nothing to sell that look.

          • formerlyAnon

I think some of it *could* be sexy, but so much of that is the wearer and the context.

          • StellaZafella

And another problem with lace over hard muscle is that, when you take it off, it leaves a very embarrassing ‘ghost image’ that looks like a fancy webbed rash…40 years ago an old boyfriend made this mistake using some of my nicer lacy things one Christmas (TMI?) it took 2 days for the image to go away…I never stopped laughing.

            • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

              Hee hee hee hee hee!
That is one of the funnier truths to emerge in a while.
              I love this!!!!

      • MissAmynae

For the Dandy and the Douchebags in your life….Versace!

ETA- just to be clear, a Dandy is a good thing- like Ewan Mcgregor and Alan Cumming good.

    • homofascist

Actually the two blue coats, third row from the bottom, I would like to try to make work.  Especially the darker one.

    • MilaXX

I really like that first row of plaid suits. Some of the prints would work paired with tamer tops. The leather and the shorts are just crackstatic.

    • MRC210

Nice to see that Donatella has followed tradition and made the wedding outfit the final look to hit the runway.  But please don’t tell me that the pushed-up-jacket-sleeve trend is back.

    • butterflysunita

Yes, I see a photo of a man in black lace underwear, a black fur coat and black boots.

      • formerlyAnon

On the right man, that seems like a pretty good concept. (Barring the occasional fit of the giggles.)  But then, I am have to admit that wearing fur doesn’t offend me, though I don’t think I would but any myself.

        • the_valkyrie

Like something Dr Frank-n-Furter would wear when it would be a little nippy…

    • http://twitter.com/cornekopia Shawn EH

Baggy parachute pants? Has the right side of the 1980s finally returned?

    • Frank_821

Yep there’s plenty of ridiculous things to induce seizures.

But I find several of the suits and coats very appealing and cool

    • ChiKat67

Possibly RDJ, he does like showy clothes and shoes. I’m guessing Kanye owns the baggy red leather pants (and secretly wears the lacy man-spanks

      • MilaXX

That’s the thing, there are few who would and could make it work. The grey suit would have been fine for the Golden Globes or BAFTA’S. But only the usual suspects; RDJ, Ewan MGregor, Alan Cummings, maybe Joseph Gordon Levitt would actually wear them. Kanye would wear the leather. I would love to Chris Colfer in that grey/blue number. (with a toned down tie. print is fine, width is redic.)

      • filmcricket

Yeah, my first thought on seeing this whole thing was “Paging Kanye!” And possibly Diddy as well.

    • VicksieDo

I hate all of this more than I could ever express.  YUCK.

      • VicksieDo

I’d title it the “Douche” collection. ACK.

    • formerlyAnon

Right hand photo in the top row: SCRUMPTIOUS! (The ensemble, I mean. The fella is fine, but not as fine as the clothes.)
Beyond that there are a ton of awesome, and wearable, jackets & coats here. I’m ready for those big loose trouser legs, but that may be a personal thing.

I am a bit sad that I will probably never know which, if any, of my male friends and acquaintances procure and wear the sheer, lace-trimmed, thigh length undies. Strikes me as unlikely, but *I* think there’s a lot to be said for ‘em, at least, um, recreationally.

    • alyce1213

Rows 9 & 10 are truly, ironically hysterical.

    • kimmeister

I kind of want the first coat in the 5th row for myself . . .

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Sarah-Adams/1143985903 Sarah Adams

Is it just me or does the first model look like the love child of Lurch and Dr. Frankenfurter?

Some of the suits are lovely, but the lace and mech with codpieces – hilarious and not in a good way.

    • ChiKat67

MilaXX, you are correct on all counts!

    • http://onebluetree.blogspot.com/ Sara L.

The Zoot suit is back I guess! Those are some wide shoulders right there, and baggy pants is putting it mildly. But I am, somehow, intrigued. On the right guy some of these could be quite fetching.

    • http://twitter.com/MajorBedhead MajorBedhead

That white suit, second row from the bottom, all the way to the right, is giving me a very naval dress whites vibe and that’s NEVER a bad thing.

    • Pants_are_a_must

You can’t say it’s not eye catching as hell. This is what all the pretty boys with the sugar daddies are going to be wearing this year.

    • Kimmu

I 100% support lacy underwear on men. I wish more would wear stockings and garters as well!

    • IAmJ

I find myself kind of loving the giraffe print suit in row 3. Most of the other looks are just too much.
I’m sure Joshua McKinley is already saving his pennies for the lacy undies.

    • MsMajestyk

      W-O-R-D UP!

    • AnnPopovic

*sigh*. I wish men dressed like this in our country, I really, really do. All of ‘em, all the time. Especially those BOOTS. Yowza. If men had more courage to dress like this, I think a lot of ‘em d’ get laid more. You’d think that would be enough incentive.

    • hughman

      Don’t ask, Donatella.

    • Imasewsure

The actual “regular” suits are beautiful. The rest is fun…. and hilariously awesome… as is that long hair beauty in the middle of this set… is it wrong that I noticed his shoes immediately after coveting his lovely hair?

    • Trevor Scott

The double breasted jacket in the first row and the black on black striped suit in the fourth row will be mine!

    • http://twitter.com/polybeandseats Polybe + Seats

those short ties are actively ridiculous.

    • http://twitter.com/TheScottFinley Scott Finley

Wow, the fits on the jackets and suits is very early 90s oversized and boxy. Please please not a trend!

    • http://www.facebook.com/fiddlecub Kevin VanOrd

Most of the cray-cray I get and even appreciate. But dear God, I hope that ultra-wide, half-length ties do *not* become a thing.

      • formerlyAnon

They do kinda make me want to ask where they parked the clown car.

    • guest2visits

The lacy underwear did NOT rock my world.  But some of the suits and coats were gorgeous.

    • Synnamin

Please tell me animal print isn’t the next thing. It will never not look tacky to me

    • LilyPad

Yikes! Sorry but this collection just says “FASHION VICTIM” to me.

    • Trisha26

Could do without the fur. Love that tan coat with the white print/applique. And next time, TLo, more photos of the long-haired model, please!

    • quiltrx

I’m all about the first, 12th, and next-to-last rows.  The rest make me feel sort of weird and headachey.

    • Lisa M. (ReVoir) Kramp

I was already giggling at the zebra fabric when I got to rows 7 and 9….BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Versace is many things, but never boring!

    • http://www.ellenciompi.com/ NurseEllen

I’ll take the one in the red leather pants, please. And I’d like to borrow his jacket on the weekends.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Bob-Sponge/100000465550991 Bob Sponge

The lacy underwear in white. wow.

    • boweryboy

I love the glen plaid and blue plaid suits in the first row. I could  and would actually wear those.

I also like the giraffe print pants but I could only pull those off in the privacy of my home.

The rest is Versace’s typical coked fueled caricature of masculinity.

    • barbarienne

You ever wonder if the models think, “Holy fuck, what are they dressing me in now?”

I refuse to believe there wasn’t a moment backstage when this conversation took place:

Underwear Model: “THIS? You want me to wear this?”
Person in Charge: “You do not have an opinion. You are for wearing things. Wear it.”
UM: *sigh* “The things I do for money.”

    • barbarienne

Also, that giraffe print made me laugh out loud. I kinda love it.

    • sleepycat

I like fancy underwear but I draw the line at lace. I do like those bags. Apparently I need a new bag the way that I am lusting after new ones. Perhaps it wise to find a knock off considering my whole school loan for this semester is likely smaller then the price tag on these

    • MichaelStrangeways

3/4 of these are gay porn star clothes.

    • http://twitter.com/foodycatAlicia foodycatAlicia

Fifth row down in the middle looks like one of Alan Rickman’s eurotrash goons in Die Hard. Which doesn’t entirely fit the rest of the collection. I don’t think I would be sexually attracted to a man who was wearing any of this, but it would make my aesthetic heart pound.

    • TRSTL

So, after the lovely Burberry menswear, I see we are back to Miami Beach high priced rent boys.

    • BayTampaBay

      I love it all.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=571205045 Kent Roby

“Parade of peacocks’, indeed!  Some of this collection is so over-the-top in such a bad way that it circled back around to being damn awesome.  Face it:  Life is just so much better with art like this in the world, even when it’s on guys who probably “shouldn’t” wear it.  Hell, I’d run around in any of that; it IS Mardi Gras season, after all!

    • http://twitter.com/dixielou8 Ashley

I need to see some of these outfits up close and personal *clears throat* I especially need to see all the guys in suits… for reasons…

    • Snailstsichr

Blue coat, grey suit – third row from the bottom. Totally swoonable. And then I saw the shoes and had a private Elvis moment.

    • RedRaven617

3rd row from the bottom, far left. That darker blue overcoat is gorgeous! The rest?… yeah…. well… umm…

    • Lucas Huntington

I guess there have to be a few hideous pieces in every collection, just to make me love the amazing pieces even more.  Many of those were fucking AWESOME!  And then cringe.  And then Awesome Awesome!  Cringe.  Yeah!!

    • lalahartma

At least there are no plastic masks.

    • BeeBeauNYC

Row 1, middle column is awesome. I wish I had what it takes to wear that suit!

    • librarygrrl64

Versace: still not to my taste.

    • leesalz

They look like vampires from Milan.

    • AthenaJ

Excuse me while I stare at the 9th row (the men, not the clothes). Yum.

Btw I have a feeling I’m going to see that zebra print ‘suit’ turn up at the jersey shore sometime soon.

    • LinXGUA

      Spats!
      Yes please!
