Solange Knowles in Just Cavalli

Posted on January 10, 2013

This is so freaking crazy that we love it. Almost.

Solange Knowles attends the premiere Of ‘Girls’ Season 2 in New York City in Just Cavalli.

The suit is just ridiculously fun and fabulous. Believe it or not, we think the problems here come in with the accessories. This is not an outfit where you want the purse and the shoes fighting with the look. She should have kept both of them fairly simple. Although we have to admit, those shoes are gorgeous. They just don’t go with the suit. And the purse is way too on-point and matchy. But it’s a great look, and her hair and makeup are gorgeous.

      i want that suit.

    • Evan Hart

I always thought she was the more fabulous Knowles.

      • H3ff

Tina is easily the more fabulous of the Knowleses.

        • http://heartprintandstyle.com/ Vivi N

          You’re joking, right?

          • http://twitter.com/yankeefoxtrot Alex McGeagh

I’m not. She is decidedly more talented and more fabulous than her more famous sister, IMHO :)

    • LesYeuxHiboux

Everything but the Clutch, my new glam-indie-rock band that plays only during fashion shows. I actually think the shoes were an inspired choice, with that bold horizontal stripe grounding the rest of the look. Like a palate cleanser. The clutch is the only misstep I see: a solid purple, orange, or black would have served better. Maybe even that jade green that’s sprinkled through the print.

      • Vanja

I think she or her stylist chose the shoes by looking at the picture. The colour looks more cream/pink in the photo but bright white on her feet. They would have been perfect otherwise.

      • Adriana_Paula

I agree; shoes can stay, clutch gotta go.

      • http://twitter.com/yankeefoxtrot Alex McGeagh

LOL! Totally is an indie band name…love it.

    • DominoEstella

She’s a gorgeous woman and has way more style than her more famous sister.  Love the suit and agree totally on the accessories.

    • Scarlet39

I feel like I shouldn’t like the suit, but I do.   I don’t mind the bag, but the shoes are all wrong.  She should have gone simple.

    • http://twitter.com/amndad amanda lynn

in the words of our sister wives: scrolldown fug.

      • http://twitter.com/PhDKnitter marlie

I “liked” for the sister wives comment. :)

    • http://www.myblackfriendsays.com myblackfriendsays

I love her hair. The outfit, notsomuch.

    • marilyn

That suit is very close to being a clown suit.  She is a beautiful woman.  Why is she doing this?

    • Karen Maslowski

There’s a lot of visual going on there.

    • AnnPopovic

Spot on. A different shoe and I wu’dda been out of my seat with cheers. This is super cute on her but the shoes make it dizzying.

    • http://twitter.com/lisledanielle Danielle Lisle

I want to hate that suit and wear it all at once.

      • http://twitter.com/PhDKnitter marlie

I suppose that’s a mark of a truly talented designer.

      • Little_Olive

        So on point.

    • MilaXX

Believe it or not it’s the shoe that ruins it for me.  All she needed was a simple pump in any of the many colors in the suit; purple, black or brown come to mind. I really don’t mind the bag at all. Still I love my funky diva Solange.

    • Call me Bee

Nope.  Sorry–it makes my eyes hurt–like a sizzling test pattern.  (OK–how many of you BKs are old enough to know what a test pattern actually is…???)

      • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

        Proudly raises hand.

      • StellaZafella

Test patterns, “TV Plants”, ‘The Star Spangled Banner’ at the end of the broadcast day…..and you had to turn the Motorola on 15 minutes before show time or you were looking at a little white dot in the middle of the tube instead of Uncle Milty.

      • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_ZBFH32YG44LIIZYLSQPMBXMYCU Sarah

I remember, but I lurve it. I would wear it in a second. I liked the test patterns, too. I love the colors. I actually used to stare at static (remember static?) and imagine I could see fun things in it. I may have spent too much time alone as a kid…

      • http://CallMeJane.com/ CallMeJane

Not only test patterns, but I remember that hour on a Saturday morning when Jack Benny was the only thing on tv.

      • Call me Bee

Ahahahaha…I knew there were a lot of you!

      • decormaven

Old enough to remember that our local television station signed on with a rendition of “Dixie.” Now that is old; thankful for the passage of time and the relative advancement of civilization.

    • Tatiana Luján

Love the shoes and the suit, but I agree on that they fight each other. Love the makeup. She needs to wear a bra.

    • RebeccaKW

Glad to know I have the same opinion as T-Lo.  My first thought was wrong shoes, wrong bag.  But that suit is wonderful and crazy, and perfect for her.

    • homofascist

I almost always love her choices, even when she is not quite there.  I love those shoes so much I would have (if I were a lady star, or a lady) gone with a slim black pant to keep the shoes.  And yes, the clutch is just too much.

      • H3ff

I’d love the jacket with black hotpants and gold sandals. Or the pants with a drapy white top. But props to Solange for committing to the look.

    • minnye

Thank you for the dose of Solange. I sooooo needed that today!

    • butterflysunita

It’s kind of oddly fabulous.  The matchy purse kicks it up to a point where she appears to be making fun of herself.

    • StellaZafella

I kinda really like it…it’s a red carpet “costume” and the shoes and purse leave no room for doubt…
But I think she’s killin’ it!

    • Imasewsure

Agreed on all points but I love that pant suit on her.

    • filmcricket

Yeah, the accessories are where this falls apart. That and the fit – it looks like it’s pulling in a few places and I’m concerned she’s going to fall out of the jacket. From the neck up she looks divine.

      • Sartorial_She

I think you nailed it. And to emphasize: from the neck up, she looks divine. I always thought she was solidly in the “unusual-looking and attractive” category, but she is flat-out gorgeous in some of these photos–particularly the second.

    • http://aintbaroque.com/ Ain’t Baroque

I will never not love her hair.

    • RocknRollmom

So exciting—my first thoughts were exactly TLo’s before I even read them.  Wow, I feel like I have truly accomplished something for the day.  I personally would not be caught dead in that suit, but she just rocks it and makes me like it.  I personally have issues with patterns and I recognize that it is a personal problem.

    • Kate4queen

Take the bag away and Im okay with all of it! She is so gorgeous.

    • schadenfreudelicious

its bat shit, but works on Solange, i feel truly sorry for the model however…

    • Soren Lundi

      Perfect.

    • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

Damn but this lady knows how to bring it, minor quibbles like shoes aside. She’s a big batch of Awesomesauce.

    • kimmeister

Man, TLo are on fire today!  I just barely finished commenting on the newest post, when all of a sudden, there are two more posts!

Anyway, I love this lip color on her.  The #1 thing I would change would be to swap out the pants for some solid black ones.  They would mitigate the loud accessories.

    • suzq

100% agree.  Lose the bag and shoes and keep the outfit AND THAT FABULOUS HAIR!

    • http://profiles.google.com/adj.blair Adriana Blair

What a beautiful suit! She looks great, but I agree with you about the accessories. With a suit that busy, you really only need solid color pumps and a matching clutch (probably black or navy).

    • fursa_saida

I 100% agree. I have to say, though, Solange has KILLER taste in shoes.

    • Janet B

Love this suit on her.  My second thought was the clutch is too much!

    • Introspective

hair is giving me all kinds of envy. makeup is pitch perfect. the outfit is chic even if its labor intensive on the eye. agree that the accessories are what’s troubling. still she makes all this cray look damn good.

    • nannypoo

I would love this jacket with some skinny black pants and some plainer shoes. As shown here, she looks like a clown.

    • http://www.facebook.com/D.D.D.Dino Dino Bonačić

      love love love

    • Judy_J

I have no problem with the matchy purse.  As a former dresser of Barbie, I find a truly matchy accessory somewhat refreshing.  I love the shoes, too.  I think she looks fabulous.

    • rsm2507

That outfit makes my stomach hurt….geez.

    • MzzPants

No to the shoes.  Otherwise, LUV.

    • Pants_are_a_must

THAT. LIPSTICK. IS. PHENOMENAL. ON. HER.

Oh my god, I want to kiss whoever did her make up.

The rest of the look, as crazypants as it is, diminishes in comparison to the major KILLA FACE.

    • shopgirl716

I like her clothes so much better than her sisters clothes.  If I were in my twenties she would be my style icon.

    • SugarSnap108

Her face looks fabulous.  I think I’d really love the jacket paired with black skinny pants and a different bag — maybe even keeping the shoes in that case (I do think they’re pretty awesome on their own).

    • Stubenville

Just too much. What SugarSnap 108 said – pair it with a skinny black pant. I’d also go for a simpler purse instead of that attache case sized thing she’s wielding.

    • Beardslee

Golly does she look wonderful.  Grown up and confident and beautiful, though I agree with you about the accessories

    • http://twitter.com/PhDKnitter marlie

I would have changed the shoes, but I think overall she looks awesome!

ETA: That is a GREAT color lipstick, and, now I need to run out and get it for myself.

    • DBSNYC

      She looks great!

    • lalahartma

      Boob.

    • http://profile.yahoo.com/DNWEFT2SVBX5T3NPMROQCT4U2U jennyv

She looks awesome and she knows it.

    • Vanderboom

I agree with you guys, but I don’t think I’d be able to resist those shoes, either.

    • PinkLemon

man is she GORGEOUS. i love that second pic so hard.

    • Louise Bryan

Love the jacket, not so much the pants.  The shoes are wrong, and the clutch is veering into Barbie territory (if Barbie wore this sort of outfit).

    • teensmom99

I think that she can get a pass on the clutch.  Usually you don’t want matchy matchy but when you are wearing something THAT crazy and you find a purse that is so on point, you just have to go for it–especially if you are as fierce as solange.

      • http://frankbettecenter.org/ sleah_in_norcal

i agree, and the shoes, too.  nothing goes with rainbow brights like black and white stripes.  quilters know that.

    • Qitkat

The pants take it into Florence Welch territory; but I love it on Solange from the fingertips up.

    • http://www.facebook.com/NadiyaOsmani Pudgy Possum

She wears it better than the model!

    • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gabriella M

Yeah, my first thought was “I LOVE THIS SUIT” and then scrolled down and thought, “But why THOSE SHOES?” They’re fab but they don’t go even slightly. Would’ve gone with a plain little bootie. I like the purse though. And her hair and makeup are so perfect that I can’t help but give snaps. It’s Diana Ross fabulous.

Was this a quilting inspired collection? It reminds me a little of Jay McCarroll, with the trademark Cavalli divaliciousness.

    • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

I’m sorry; all I’m seeing is Krusty the Clown’s sidekick, SideShow Bob.

    • http://frankbettecenter.org/ sleah_in_norcal

i love it.  totally over the top craziness with shoes to match.

    • Annabelle Archer

      Booyah bitches!

    • http://eclectictsunami.blogspot.com/ Cassie

She just seems like a hoot, doesn’t she?

Is she going to be on the new season of Girls? That would be random, but also kinda cool.

    • barbarienne

It says something when the suit looks like that but your (well, my) eyes jump right to the shoes. I can’t decide if they’re just plain wrong for the suit, or if they’re playing contrast for it. “Yeah, muthafuckas, I’m wearing a crazy-ass suit and these shoes just make that more obvious.”

    • Beverly Kozma

Love the jacket, hate the pants.

    • quiltrx

I think the suit is a “one or the other, not both” situation.  The jacket with something else, or the pants with something else.  They’re fabulous, but together it’s just too much.

    • J. Preposterice

[insert my usual irrational love of Solange here]

    • Trisha26

Totally agree – simple black clutch and those same shoes in all black.

    • http://twitter.com/peacebang Victoria Weinstein

I love it all the way down to the shoes. You betchya.

    • IMNAngryLiberal

I like every individual piece of this look, but seeing them all together kind of makes me want to throw up in my mouth a little.

    • RzYoung

I think i prefer her to Beyonce now

    • OrigamiRose

You said exactly what I was thinking when I looked at this.  The suit is so amazing, that all other things needed to be simple (even though on their own, the clutch and shoes would be fabulous).

    • http://kingderella.tumblr.com/ kingderella

what a fabulous look. i think the shoes were a great choice, but i agree that the purse should be simpler.

    • http://vhanna26.typepad.com Vera

This so works for her.  I love her style.

    • decormaven

She is pulling off this look; if the stylist had opted for a solid color in the footwear, it would be WERQ-worthy.

    • bluefish

Love the suit and the hair.  Also the shoes.

    • http://asskickingadviser.com/ Ass Kicking Adviser

What you guys said. That suit is amazing! But I hate that the shoes are pulling focus. And I really like (read: covet) the shoes.

    • http://twitter.com/starrika starrika

LOVE this! definitely a WERQ. I love when she wears her hair like this and that suit is fierce!

    • Le_Sigh

Love it!  How fun is that??

    • MightyMarshal

She needs a clutch in the same size and shape, but in a solid kelly green and a pair of metallic (silver or bronze) pointed toe pumps.

    • Cathy S

I like the jacket. I wish she hadn’t worn the pants. They don’t seem to be doing much for her legs; they look odd to me. I love the shoes, which might work better with solid pants. Love her hair.

    • http://twitter.com/cornekopia Shawn EH

Agreed. Don’t mind the clutch, but this was the time for simple black or white pumps. She tends to take things one step too far.

    • julnyes

I would be perfectly happy with this crazypants look if the purse was a neutral color.

    • http://www.facebook.com/aboutelle Ashleigh Boutelle

LOVE this too. Hate the clutch. The shoes are a smart choice, in my opinion.

    • MarissaLG

I love this. Solange always brings it.

    • guest2visits

The model is frightening. Agree; suit needed simple shoes and bag.  Beautiful even if slightly noisy.

    • http://twitter.com/foodycatAlicia foodycatAlicia

Waist up awesome – I just think the fit in the pants is a bit off and the clutch and shoes are wrong. Fabulous print that she is wearing well though.

    • MaryanneGirl

      i DIE for this suit.

    • mmc2315

Solange….no.  Too cray.  Great hair though.

    • EdgarAllenPwn

      I love you Solange.

    • LilyPad

I think she could’ve kept the accessories if she had a solid-colored jacket or pants, but you guys are right: something’s gotta give here. And I hate the leopard print in there.

    • tallgirl1204

This is an outfit that so calls for big hair. I can live with the purse but the shoes need to go.
