Ryan Gosling in Gucci

Posted on January 08, 2013

Here is your script for the following scrolldown:

Ryan Gosling (pictured with his mother Donna Gosling) attends the premiere of ‘Gangster Squad’ in Los Angeles in Gucci.

Talk about a needle scratch. Those shoes are awful.

Still, we give him all the credit in the world for, as always, putting the effort in. We also send waves of love in his direction for avoiding the grey suit/grey tie/grey shirt trend so many boystars have fallen into on the RC. This is a boy who’s not afraid of color and for that, we are appreciative.

We don’t actually think this is a very good color for him. It’s definitely a bold choice, but we tend to think it works against his natural coloring. Put this suit on a dark-skinned man and it would sing, but on super-white Ryan Gosling, it looks a bit like babypoo.

Also, since we’re apparently going to be hugely critical bitches today, we don’t think the cut of the pants is particularly flattering. Granted, it’s hard to tell because he never once takes his hand out of his pocket. Tsk.

We don’t know, you guys. We certainly don’t hate this look. In fact, we gasped when we first saw it. But it’s one of those looks that has a strong initial impact and then starts looking a little wonky after a minute or two.

Not feeling the shoes, but on initial glance he does cut quite the figure, even if the suit might really belong to Idris Elba.

Squeeing that he brought his momma as his date.

    • MilaXX

       just the thought of Idris……*sigh*
Waiting ever so patiently for series 3 of Luther.

      • ChiliP

I just started watching Luther- wonderful program. Idris is mesmerizing in it.

        • editrixie

I just finished series 2 the other day and I must say, it creeped me out more than any series I’ve watched in a long time. When I go to London in May I’ll be constantly watching everything around me.

    • StellaZafella

I love that you can see him in his mother’s face…right down to the slightly arched right brow.
Yes, Idris Elba for the suit fer shur!

    • elizonthelam

And doubly squealing that he keeps his mother in every shot. Stand by your Mom!

  • His mother is wearing his girlfriend’s clothes, according to press reports. That is far more creepy than the overall effect of this outfit.

    • Sobaika

What? She’s wearing Eva Mendes’ clothes? Uh… maybe momma didn’t have anything fancy on hand for a movie premiere?

    • ChiliP

Really? His mother is lovely and looks like she is in fine shape, but I find it hard to believe she is the same size as Eva Mendes. Maybe she borrowed the coat (which admittedly is fabulous)?

      • xmixiex

nyeah.  she’s smokin, but surely not the same size as Eva.

      • MilaXX

She can’t close the coat and the dress appears to be stretchy ruched material. Mom is shorter. A person wearing a size 6 who is 5′ tall is going to appear heavier than a person wearing a size 6 who is 5’6″. Still, you can’t buy your moms a dress to wear?

        • Let’s not critique a non-star’s clothing choices, please.

    • famousamy

hey – if she can fit in them and look good, why not? Though the dress looks like it’s a skosh too short for her..

  • ChiliP

I’m one of those rare creatures who is immune to the power of The Gosling (I actually find the expression on his face a little smackable), but the second picture of his mother gazing adoringly at him is pretty cute.

    • MilaXX

I’m immune as well. In fact, he often totters on my irrational hate list.

      • SassieCassy

me too. dont get the appeal at all but maybe its because i never got into the notebook or w/e

      • I didn’t like him until I saw “Crazy, Sexy, Love”. He is charming in that movie.

        • MilaXX

Is that one of those Nicolas what’s his face movies? I hate all of them. I Saw the Notebook and found it tooth achingly sweet. Just not my cup of tea.

          • fursa_saida

No, it’s a comedy with Steve Carell and Emma Stone and I forget who else. I heard a lot of surprisingly good things, though I haven’t seen it. But I can at least tell you it’s not a Nicholas Sparks creation, which means it doesn’t automatically have to be set on fire and tossed into a bottomless abyss.

          • Exactly.

I was surprised by how genuinely funny it was.

    • JasmineAM

YES! I don’t find him attractive in the least bit. His body is great, and he can dress really stylishly, but he does nothing for me.

    • Vera L-

I don’t get it either. He doesn’t look hot to me, him and Ryan Reynolds. Both look not too bright with good bodies. Which is so not my type.

    • MissAmynae

Moms always make boys look cuter 🙂  He’s on my rational “whatever” list. My little sister can have him, give me Renner, Hiddleston, or Gary Oldman (forever and always) please.

  • I quite like the shoes, i think. Not with that suit, but I think they could be made to work.

    •  If those shoes were pumps, I’d buy them in a heartbeat.

    • homofascist

I like the shoes too.  I have these gray Joe’s Jeans that I have been loving I and I think they would look great with those…

  • Funny thing is, the only part of the look that I like is the shoes. That’s an AWFUL color, and it would look like baby poo on anyone.

I think the suit fits well, though it could use a good pressing. And he needs to shave the neck beard. But hey – Mom’s coat is gorgeous!

  • moppet

SHAAAAAVE. Oh, and how cute is his mommy?

  • MarissaLG

I’m not a fan. I think the color would be okay if it was just the jacket, but a whole suit of it is just too much. I agree that the cut of the pants is unflattering (if that’s even possible on Gos). It’s just leaning a little too far into the ironic side of things.

    Momma looks pretty, though.

    • I wish her shoes were closed-toe, though. And baby poo is right on target. Just off.

  • I agree on all counts. But I like his mum’s coat!

    • jtabz

Yes! Her coat is pretty darn fabulous.

  • JMB_edits

How proud is his Mom?!  Adorable!!
You even warned me but I did exactly as scripted!  The shoes made me shudder.

  • GorgeousThings

Awwwww, but he brought his mom! I give him extra points for that. And she looks so proud of her boy.

The shoes, though, they gotta go.

  • I basically forgive everything because he brought his mom as his date 🙂  That being said, I agree that the brown is not great, a darker brown would have been better.  I think he’s in a bit of “period costume drag” too, for this little gangsta movie.

  • crash1212

Sorry. Once I got to the pic with the cocked eyebrow, I was too busy swooning to look at anything else. Except….I don’t hate the shoes. Very challenging color though and I’m not in love with it.

    • Aurumgirl

       That suit needs a redhead.

  • Can see where he gets his good looks.
    His mother is just adorable.
Not much into his outfit either but could care less…cuz he’s Ryan Gosling and he brought his mom!

  • moppet

My cats decided to attack a pair of my pumps once, and by the time they were done the shoes looked quite similar to Gosling’s shoes here.

  • RzYoung

Call me Cray-Cray but I love those shoes!

Agree on the colour though, ick. I really want to fancy him but I can’t un-see his Disney baby face

  • xmixiex

I kinda love the shoes.  but poop coloured suit is gross.

    also, MILF!

  • xmixiex

    repost edit oops.

  • It’s a gloriously well cut suit. And he has the panache to pull off a slightly outré color. I think I might have even loved the shoes with this if he had gone for a more statement-y tie. Mom is adorable.

  • Pants_are_a_must

I’m guessing the suit choice was maybe a homage to the period his movie is set in. The shoes were a “but we’re in the 21st century and I’m a TOTAL BABE” note.

LOL, failed. But then I’m not big on Baby Goose.

  • I wish men would just STOP IT with the neck beard. TRIM THAT SHIT.

    • conniemd

I like a bit of scruffy look to men, gives them that bad boy look that we women can’t resist, but I agree with you on the neck beard. It looks unkempt as opposed to rebellious and James Dean-like.

  • MilaXX

I laughed myself into a coughing fit when I saw those shoes. Thems some ugalee footwear & he looks ridiculous in them. Suit is just “meh”. I agree the color does not suit him well.

  • Tatiana Luján

I like the shoes, but I hate the color of that suit.

  • You can do a drab colored suit like that if it’s paired with the right shirt and tie. If he’d gone with a light colored plaid shirt and a tie with some purple in it, I think he’d have brought that color from 1970s to 2010s pretty easily. And the pants could have had a bit less volume.

  • mjude

forgiven this time ry cause your mama is with you & one can tell you do no wrong in her eyes.

  • Not loving Mama Gosling’s dress length…n shoes….no no no!

  • Those shoes are amazing! Men should wear cracktastic shoes once in awhile…the fashion world certainly encourages women to do so more often than not. I find it a sad world when men are relegated to solid-color black and brown shoes (maybe oxblood if you’re feeling cheeky!).

I want those shoes. I love those shoes on Gosling’s feet, and I encourage polka-dotted shoes on men.

  • MzzPants

That brown is on the wrong side of retro.  Otherwise, the fit and cut are superb.

  • Dan_In_NYC

I think the initial positive reaction is due to a pretty amazing fit on that garment.  The color conjures thoughts of a polyester leisure suit – only amplified by what I would characterize as pimp shoes.  Points for being generally presentable and discussable, but I’m not feeling this one at all.

  • It’s different. And his mommy looks like Roseanne (I mean that as a compliment.)

  • Le_Sigh

Yeah no.  The color makes it look like a stage costume on him.

  • Jangle57

Shoes are odd, to put it nicely.  Suit is a hard color to pin down; I don’t know about anyone else’s computer but the brown looks like a different shade in practically every shot on mine.  And in some of the shots, I think the brown looks nice on him, in others, babypoo.  But love that he brought Mom.

  • Ann

What… you’re not going to say anything about his scruffy neck and face?  Sorry, but I think that color would look like baby poo on anybody, not just him.

  • He can do no wrong in my view. I don’t love the shoes but the fact that he’s trying something different totally makes up for it.

  • He needs to tame his hair: neck, beard, and eyebrows all need attention.  I kinda like the shoes.  Perhaps a different tie, lighter colored with a pattern, might have made the outfit seem less “brown”?  Just a thought.  LOVE it that he is sharing the glam with his mom.

  • PeggyOC

Agreed. That’s a terrible color on him, and a terrible color on 85-90% of the world.  It’s not a color for everyone.  It’s especially distracting as it’s the same color as the hair of his hideous neck beard, so it looks his neck is shedding from his suit.  But I covet his mamma’s coat, and it’s adorable that he brought her to the premier, so points there.  Mamma, next time, tell him to shave the neck beard!

  • jw_ny

I literally gasped when I scrolled down and saw the shoes….and I was expecting something gasp worthy!  XD

I don’t mind the suit color on him.  Hate the scruff/neck beard.

His mom looks great! Her coat is really fun.

  • Imasewsure

Yes I did a big Ohhhh when I saw the close up of the shoes… agree about the pants but overall it’s ok (sans the shoedazzling). Mama date also worked for me (Drive put me over the edge in to the “love him” category)

  • MissMariRose

OMG, his mom is super adorable!

  • Violina23

I feel like all he needs the elbow protectors and he’d be auditioning for a young “Giles” in Buffy

  • kimmeister

I didn’t follow the script because I grimaced as soon as I hit the diarrhea color.  The cut is fabulous but that color is horrific.

  • AuntieAnonny

I think it’s the color of the vest that bothers me the most.

  • msdamselfly

Love the shoes.  Otherwise, that’s a lot of russet!

  • stubbornthoughts

I am proudly not immune to the Gosling and never desire a vaccination shot.

He looks amazing. I think baby poop brown looks fantastic on him. LOVE those shoes.

    *drop the mic*

  • bluefish

Love it … He looks great.  And those are obviously gangster shoes!

  • trisker

Will the fashion for one-week beard grow-out ever be over?  All these beautiful young men on the RC and they look kind of unwashed. So cute that he brought Mom.

  • throwaneyeonthis

Mom’s coat, dress  and shoes are perfection for a woman who is not an actress or model.  Great job for a “civilian” on the Red Carpet.

  • AnnPopovic

He inspires a huge sigh in me. A huge, “Ehg. Whatever.” sigh.
    I just don’t get it. He’s like…vanilla yogurt.

  • donnaINseattle

I like his mom’s coat and shoes.

  • I love the look, even with the weird shoes.

  • decormaven

Everything is good for me, except for the neck beard. As for the shoes, they’ve got what the kids call “chicken pops.”

  • E. D.

I like the shoes, but that is too close to UPS brown for me.

  • e jerry powell

Has anyone tried that 1970s porn color on a suit since, well, 1977?

    • mmc2315

THAT’S it.  It’s the color plus the three-piece that makes it look [subtly] out of date instead of cool retro.

      • unbornfawn

        That’s what I’m seeing too!

    • boogie nights!  who’s up for a remake starring beautiful ryan?

      • e jerry powell

Given the number of films, both documentary and non, that have been made about John Holmes before and since, I think it’s a well-enough mined topic, and we should let all the double-knit polyester rest in peace (or in pieces, as may be more appropriate).

  • Mommy’s coat is pretty awesome.

  • formerlyAnon

His mommy loves him, just look at that 2nd photo.

    Oh, clothes?

I kind of like the shoes, but they’re never not going to look just a little bit like stage wear. Agree on the color of the suit.

  • alyce1213

I don’t think of that as a babypoo color, and I’ve seen quite a bit of babypoo.  I prefer to see it as Cognac, and I think he looks gorgeous.  My only complaint — and it’s big — is the neck beard/facial hair situation.  The shoes are fun, maybe to say he’s doesn’t take it all too seriously.

    • i just took care of my 6 month old granddaughter for a week, so i am totally ready for a deep discussion of baby poop.  that suit definitely does not match my baby’s poop!

  • snarkykitten

most of my work day is spent scraping some kind of crap off of other things, so yes. this is a poop brown suit. Gross.

  • Carrieanno

He brought his mom.  He could wear a potato sack for all I care.

  • and what about the mom???

  • YourBaloneyDontGotNoSecondName

    Dear Ryan Goslings Mom,

We want to wreck your son.

  • RocknRollmom

I am not much of a Ryan fan, but I have to say I think he looks damn good here.  Suit is well cut and even the color doesn’t bother me.  The shoes are..amusing.  Why the heck not?  And so many points for bringing mom (who should have opted for a pump rather than those sandals things) who rightfully looks like a very proud mom.

  • sweetlilvoice

He is so fine. Too bad this movie is a pass for me. Maybe at the $1 rental.

  • at least it fits him properly and the hem is the correct length.

    meh on the colour.

  • I want to like it, because I like bold colors on a guy.  Too bad I can’t tell if it fits or not because he won’t stop playing pocket pool!  Really, Ryan – your mom is right there.

  • Trisha26

For me it was a OMG instead of WTF and I kinda like the shoes! Lamenting only the neckbeard…

  • Pennymac

If he was an earthling like the rest of us, this suit would have been an impulse buy, cause at first glance its rather stunning. Then it would sit in the back of the closet as a fashion purchase regret.

  • SRQkitten

The color is wearing him rather than the other way ’round.

But, yes, kudos for doing something other than [yawn] gray.

  • quiltrx

Definitely baby-shit brown on a light-skinned fellow…but I’m picturing this on, say, Taye Diggs, and I think it would look awesome.

Ugh to the shoes.  I loved them when I *thought* they were studded, from a distance.  Definitely Monet shoes.

  • librarygrrl64

He has “cool” coloring and this is a “warm” suit. They are competing.

Also, is it just me, or does he seem VERY happy to be on the red carpet in that second shot? Maybe it’s just the way the pants are pulling, but….. 😉

  • Amy Wilson Faville

I love the shoes. I’ll take the whole package. What the hell, throw the mother in too.

  • While the suit isn’t his color, I kinda like the shoes, and having mom as a date is a win.

  • guest2visits

I think the shoes are ok but the color of the suit is abit too quirky and off; I can’t picture it on anyone.
And I give mom all kinds of credit for her outfit but for the short, snug dress; I love the coat, the bag, her shoes, etc..

He used to be kind of hot. He should be grinning like an idiot with his mom there, but no… he’s got that smug assface on. Again.
I don’t think he gets his own irony.

  • Nope, don’t mind the shoes. Sure do mind the neck hair though. But you are right about the color. It’s lovely but would really sing on a darker skinned man. Which is practically every man who is NOT Ryan Gosling.

  • Really? I like those shoes–they’re intriguing, and Gosling has the cojones to pull them off.

But I totally agree about the color of the suit–it’s too warm for his skin.

  • Melvis Velour

this is just so wrong on so many levels but ya gotta give the boy some credit for definitely going out on the limb…

The gossip mills are saying his mom wears cast off’s from the women he beds which is also so wrong…

  • Candigirl1968

Ryan’s shoes could be cool in another context.  They just don’t work with his 1970’s three piece suit.

  • lilazander

And what about his crotch; am I the only… hmmm… sicko here 😉
