Rose Byrne in Jill Stuart

Posted on January 17, 2013

We’re gown-free today, darlings. We think you all might need a break. Instead, we’re offering up a string of oddly business-like looks along with a boho disaster here and there.

First up, Miss Byrne will show you where you can hang your coat, then take you into the conference room for the meeting.

Rose Byrne attends the Sydney premiere of her new film ‘I Give it One Year’ in Australia in a Jil Stuart dress paired with Casadei pumps, Misaki earrings and an Adeler ring.

Jill Stuart Fall 2012 Collection/Model: Kendra Spears

Misaki Sterling Silver Mother of Pearl Hoops

Adeler 14K White Gold Black Druzy Onyx and Diamond Ring

Maybe she didn’t want to appear grandiose to a Sydney crowd, but this strikes us a bit too on the low-key side for a film premiere. On the other hand, if she was heading into the office on a warm spring day, this would be a very cute little outfit. If she had a job that required leather skirts and clutches during the day, that is. And don’t we all wish we had a job like that?

But really, Rose. Come now. We expect a little more glamour from our film premieres. Try harder next time.

And the pale lavender lipstick is bugging me.  LOL  However, the color of the top is a terrific one for her.

      • marlie

Yes, I hate that the lipstick matches her clothes. Some contrast was called for here.

    • Sobaika

This is cute. Maybe movie premieres aren’t a big thing in Australia?

      • MegsieMagoo

Not really no. Plus, on the east coast of Australia we’re in the middle of a heat wave – it’s been about 42 degrees in Sydney (107 Farenheit) over the last few days. I can believe how unsweated she looks!

    • Diana Ruskin

Do you think she meant to match her outfit to that backdrop? Also, I think she looks kind of unhappy.

      • DeebaCee

I think she always looks unhappy.

        • Fordzo

I was just thinking that she always looks worried.

    • Karen Maslowski

Is Casadei becoming the Manolo Blahnik of the 2000-teens?

    • gabbilevy

If she’d taken her hair down, I think this would have worked.

      • MilaXX

Still needs jewelry, but having her hair down certainly would have helped.

        • RebeccaKW

Different shoes, too.  Not that these aren’t cute.  But something other than a black pump would help.

          • gabbilevy

They’re very cute. But you’re right, something else would have worked better for this outfit.

    • Sarah Caponigro

I like this. Can I have it for work?

    • captrenault

Enh, she’s travelling to somewhere where it’s summer, she can’t remember what that’s like — she gets a pass.

      • captrenault

Oh, wait — she’s Australian.  Scratch that.

    • Janet B

The colors are pretty on her and coordinate with the background.  Underwhelming for a movie premier.

    • EverybodysStarling

Not in love with the top, but really want the skirt-part of it.

    • Gabriella M

If she had added a statement necklace, this might have worked like gangbusters. I’m picturing maybe turquoise. It still would have been more casual and low-key, but it would have had a touch of glam.

      • kimmeister

I’d go for mustard, or maybe even chartreuse.

        • Gabriella M

Yes! Just… SOMETHING to break up that businessy little shell.

    • Judy_J

This is a very basic look…nice, but an odd choice for a film premiere.  She could have at least jazzed it up with some jewelry or something.

    • Ceur

The coat makes the runway look. Put on a coat, Rose.

      • SorayaS

Argh even thinking about a coat would be unbearable – it’s 30 degrees celcius at 7.30am over here!

    • Erin Schubert Needham

Does she not ever smile?  She haz a sad.

    • Jennifer Peters-Ahnberg

      I covet the skirt.

      • ringthing

        I covet the ring.

        • ballerinawithagun

          Yes, lusting for the ring!

    • ecallaw1977

I’ve never worked anywhere where a plum leather skirt would be appropriate office attire, but I love this outfit!

      • kimmeister

Just yesterday I saw a really cute teal faux leather sheath dress in my size, but then I realized I would have no where to ever wear it.  If it’s hot enough for sleeveless, it’s definitely too hot for a leather dress (faux or not).

        • How to Faint

But when it’s really cold, you can layer it over a long-sleeved t-shirt. Or layer it in other ways; e.g., you can dress it up with a blazer or down with a cardigan. If you get somewhere and the heat is on too high, you can whip it off and still be fairy comfy. It’s sounds like a nice, flexible basic. I would’ve snapped it up in a heartbeat.

    • newleaf1

I want this.  But then again, I work in an office.  Perfect for advertising!

    • foodycatAlicia

My mother had a pair of leather trousers that exact colour. They died in a tragic dry-cleaning incident. Anyhoo, it’s about 40C in Oz this week, so unless she is in constant airconditioning the poor love smells like a hamster cage.

    • RzYoung

I work in an art museum and I’m wearing a leather skirt…it makes farty noises when I shuffle around in my chair. It’s the skirt, it’s the SKIRT OK!

      • jw_ny

         thanks for the chuckles!  :)

    • Jessica TallGirl Freeman

It’s pretty boring. I’m still excited that the booms are gone. She looks so much better.

    • BrooklynBomber

The colors, though, are gorgeous; I think they take it to another level.

    • E. D.

      I like it.

    • Rhonda Shore

i think the outfit would have looked better if it hadn’t been tucked in.  It’s all kind of blah…

    • MilaXX

Dump the clutch & replace it with a blazer and she’s ready for the filing room.

    • OrigamiRose

If only my office staff was that fashion forward.  I can dream…

    • filmcricket

I covet the earrings. Otherwise yeah, it’s a bit understated for a premiere. Let the hair down & add a necklace, as others have said.

    • nannypoo

I love this outfit so far, but she apparently hasn’t finished dressing yet. Let’s see another picture after she puts on her jewelry and her little jacket. And at that point she might be so pleased with herself that she’ll smile.

    • Beardslee

A leather skirt in the summer?  No.  Here’s a crazy idea: let’s wear fall clothes in the fall!
      Beautiful colors, though.
      Boring shoes.

    • jw_ny

Since it is summer in Australia, I’ll cut her some slack on its seasonal appropriateness, but yes, it’s not really anywhere near special enough for a premiere.   She does look nice tho…perhaps a bit tired.

Her pale plum colored lip is bugging me…to matchy.

      • Nancy Dunn

Although isn’t it like 108 degrees in Australia?? Who wears leather when it is 108 degrees?

    • Anne At Large

This is the best Banana Republic look I’ve seen in a while!

    • jilly_d

TLO you are correct on all counts but I gotta say I am so glad she git rid of those hideous bangs. And i desperately want that outfit for work on a warm spring day.

    • StephanieLovesTLo

Too matchy matchy with the background and staging.

    • decormaven

The ring is the only thing that speaks to the red carpet. If we didn’t know her, she’d be just another well-dressed assistant on the sidelines.

    • VicksieDo

She always looks so sad…maybe she’s just hungry.

    • marlie

I love every single part of this look, but agree wholeheartedly that it’s too sedate for the event. This would have been the perfect time to bust out a fabulous statement necklace or something, just to spice things up a bit.

    • Lisa M. (ReVoir) Kramp

The earrings and ring are drool-worthy, everything else, including her expression is meh.

    • bluefish

I don’t really get it — she’s gorgeous in every respect but always looks so sad.

    • lehen

why does this woman always look like she is on the brink of tears?

    • Melissa Mellon

“Might I get a cup of coffee before the meeting begins, Ms. Byrne?”

    • Alyssa Stanfield

I love the skirt, and wish I could afford it to wear to my office! But definitely an odd outfit for a premiere…

    • NurseEllen

I love the ring….what a great use of materials!  Other than the color, the outfit is snooze-worthy.

    • Lilak

Compared to everyone else (Next Stop: Somebody’s Backyard BBQ) at this premiere, Miss Byrne was positively formal, so . . . esp. considering her jewelry and the fact that she made the effort to look sleek and polished (+ she wears that luscious color beautifully), I say we give her a pass.

    • tallgirl1204

Hasn’t it been, like, really really really hot there?  I’m thinking this is a look that originally had a great jacket, but it was just too dang hot to wear.

      • peachy

    • Tatiana Luján

I love this look, but it may be to low key.

    • Funkykatt

This is a designer outfit? Honestly??

    • butterflysunita

I love that dress.  She looks pretty and also matches the background.

    • Monica

That leather skirt is gorgeous. I wish it were separates instead of a dress.

    • LesYeuxHiboux

J’adore les bijoux! This does seem a little too far into the officewear category, and I don’t like the weight of those two fabrics combined. I feel like the top needs to be just a little lighter/silkier to balance that heavy skirt. She does rock the color.

    • formerlyAnon

Not glam, but I like. Especially the top.

    • Candigirl1968

I think Rose is joining Bradley at brunch.
And I’m just glad we have a respite from the bangs.

    • amf0001

It’s beautiful for the ladies who lunch,  a little underwhelming for an opening night.  Is she actually in the movie or just going to boost for a friend?

    • Danielle Lisle

      Well… the ring is pretty?

    • thecitysleeps

I personally really like this.  Maybe a bit underwhelming for the event, but it works.

    • Renate Yerkes

i thought she was holding a cordless microphone! Ha ha ha!

    • Dino Bonačić

      i find it amazing 😀

    • Eovaai

It’s so hot in Sydney (43 degrees Celsius today!) that I don’t blame her at all for dressing down. How she can be wearing a leather skirt in this weather, though, is beyond my capacity to understand.

    • ThaliaMenninger

I think she looks great. The color is very good on her, she looks polished and lovely, and I’m good with all of it.

    • guest2visits

I think this is one of her better looks and I don’t even really like leather skirts. She’s even close to smiling!

    • pookiesmom

I actually kind of love this. The color is amazing on her and the outfit is super cute!

    • snookums lynn

OH, I can wear that to my office! that’s a really cute work outfit

    • Maya

      i do love those earrings!

    • Paige Boerman

I feel like she never smiles on the red carpet. It makes her look miserable, and she has such a beautiful smile. I guess it’s tough being Rose Byrne.

    • Sau-Chih Feng

Rose strikes me as one of those beautiful women who want to be fashion-foward, but have no idea how to go about it.

    • kathrineb

This outfit made me think of Marie from ‘breaking bad’, but perhaps I am just having BB withdrawals.

    • ccm800

      Purple leather skirt is awesome!!!!

    • julnyes

This is a very cute outfit even though it isn’t movie premiere worthy.
