Marion Cotillard in Erdem on Conan

Posted on January 18, 2013

Another “Attagirl” for Miss Marion, who’s been like a breath of fresh air once she got a chance to shed the Dior.

Marion Cotillard makes an appearance on ‘Conan’ in an Erdem dress.

Erdem Pre-Fall 2013 Collection/Models: Steffi Soede and Stephanie Hall

This is borderline twee, but she’s got just enough of a smirk to her to prevent it from going over a line. We probably wouldn’t like this much on Michelle Williams, but on Marion, it goes all sassy.

We have to admit, though: the shoes are kind of an odd choice and we’re not crazy about the hair. She’s lucky it’s a striking enough dress to overcome some dicey styling.

Really don’t like the hair. Love the dress though. And I think I like the shoes.

  • Imasewsure

Definite no on the hair… the shoes need to be much bolder (even clunky like on the model) to combat the twee but still it ends up being a nice little grown up look…love her

  • MissMariRose

She reminds me of Rashida Jones here. Must be the hair.

    • Lilak

Oh, if only the lovely Miss Jones would take a page.  (We live in hope … sigh.)

  • Annabelle Archer

Ooh la la, I lurve her.

  • MilaXX

Cute dress that’s well suited for a chat shoW. I like the shoes, but I’m not crazy about the hair

  • formerlyAnon

Like shoes & dress. Not impressed with the hair. Very impressed with how well she’s wearing a not-easy dress.

  • hughman

She looks cute. Also my grandmother would have worn this with button earrings and a red handbag (for her flask).

    • http://howtofaint.tumblr.com/ How to Faint

My first thought was “Oh my god, their grandmother is Queen Elizabeth!”

  • Trisha26

She is one of my IH’s but I like everything – including the hair. She looks sophisticated and put together and pretty.

  • Peeve

Love the style of the dress, but I can’t with the print. Don’t know why, but I think it’s fugly. Too busy, maybe?

  • Anathema_Device

Love that dress, and I don’t mind the shoes at all. Wish she had her curly bob here, though. That would have been pretty cute. Might have been a step over the twee line, now that I think about it.

  • Karen Maslowski

My first thought: this looks like something Michele Obama would wear.

I like it. Glad she didn’t wear the ruffle at the neck. Talk about twee.

    • amf chase

I thought Michelle Obama, too – figured she’d pair it with those turquoise flats of hers

  • msdamselfly

Love the hair with the dress-  has a Catholic school girl look
I love the way she dares to look respectable

  • Laylalola

    She’s my girlcrush.

  • VicksieDo

    Too busy for me.

  • alyce1213

I think she got it right this time. This dress is youthful and flirtatious without being too short, too poofy . . . too twee for a beautiful, sophisticated French actress in her mid-30s.  I like the hair — a more wowee hairdo would be too much with the bright print. This is simple and chic.

  • Anniebet

Sublime, IMO. Erdem is a genius and Marion glows in his reflected light. I love the quirk factor.

  • Pants_are_a_must

Can we talk about the hair for a second? Because that’s such a French move to go during award season “oh? why, yes I did just cut a foot off my hair.”  I do hope she doesn’t keep straightening it, though. Her natural curls are gorgeous.

    Love the outfit as well.

  • ojosazules

I find the fabric so ugly.

  • Lisa M. (ReVoir) Kramp

The dress is really cute (and I normally wouldn’t say that about a dress that busy) and I like the low-key pumps with it. She has such gorgeous hair…why did they make it look dry and dull?

  • quiltrx

I saw the promos for the show and practically squee’d when I saw this dress.  Hubby looked at me weird (we don’t watch Conan) and I had to gush a little “oh I just love her fashion sense!”…and he went back to his laptop.

  • shawnhunter

I like this alot! It looks cute and fresh and effortless.

  • DeTrop

“Younger than Springtime are you. Gayer than laughter are you”. Love this AND the red shoes too.

  • crash1212

I love this with the red shoes. I think they were a good choice with this. Also like the hair – needs to be simple and sleek because that dress has a lot going on.

  • thecitysleeps

I don’t love the hair but I like the shoes, and omg that dress is so beautiful.  I don’t care if it’s twee, I’d wear so much of it all the time. And mostly with flats to make it even more twee.  Too bad I’m poor.

  • decormaven

Great dress for a sit-down tv show, but I wish she had gone with those chunky heels as shown in the designer’s look. It’s amazing how her hairstyles change for each look. Her team is on the ball. Major props!

    • OrigamiRose

I totally loved those chunky heels as well!

  • http://twitter.com/jalae Janey

I love the dress, quite like the shoes and I feel like if she had her short hair in waves it would soften the look of her hair

  • librarygrrl64

I disagree on the hair. Not my favorite style on her, but it still looks good. Damn her. ;-)

  • miagain

That looks like a Michelle Obama dress!

  • http://twitter.com/PhDKnitter marlie

I love everything – the dress is gorge. I even like the shoes AND the hair.

  • OrigamiRose

I love the entire look.  I feel like a TLo failure :(

  • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gabriella M

I feel like she’s going to be the Isabella Rossellini of her age group. Same sort of smirk.

  • margaret meyers

She has very pretty hair.  It’s just that it’s her own hair.  Normal human hair growing from her own head.

  • guest2visits

Same thoughts; I don’t like the shoes, don’t really like the hairstyle for her either.

  • Mary229

I don’t love the hair right now but if it grows out just a little bit into a slightly longer bob…it might be really chic and cute.  No?  Or does this just not work for her?

  • Alyssa Stanfield

I love the dress, and I actually like the hair. It’s nice to see her with casual hair, although I think the bob needs to frame her face a little more. I’m neutral on the shoes…don’t love them, but they’re much better than another pair of satin or nude shoes!

  • Lilithcat

    That’s a Michelle Obama dress.

  • chitowndg

What is wrong with the shoes?

  • Judy_S

I love this on her. Better than on the model. I guess it’s the sass you detected.

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/VWVJVYZJCTXSQJA4E5PNEZLJA4 Jessica

Great color choice!  That yellow pops against the purples and blues of the set.  And she goes with Conan’s shirt and tie!

  • amian3

I hope lady stars are taking notes, clearly a full skirt is the way to go on a talk show.

  • Martha Deutsch

love the shoes, but with you on the hair.

  • EEKstl

LOVE the dress, meh on the shoes and hate the hair.  But I am bowing down nontheless, she is, after all, MC.

  • Beverly Kozma

I really kind of hate that print, but what a sweet face she has.  I think she’s lovely.

  • lalahartma

Nice to see a guest sitting with some fabric aound/near her knees!

  • RocknRollmom

Very classic French.  I like the red heels with it. A lot.

  • PinkLemon

    j’adore erdem.

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/SIW6UBBGHMNFAAOH2KEMRMVMCU beawin

Don’t like the neckline, and the print is going off in two different directions at once both in color and design.
