Lea Michele in Elie Saab

Posted on January 10, 2013

Lea continues to dress in a manner that pleases us. And kittens, isn’t that what being a star is all about? Pleasing T Lo? Isn’t it pretty to think so?

Lea Michele attends 2013 People’s Choice Awards in an Elie Saab cocktail dress from the spring 2012 collection paired with Elie Saab sandals and Anita Ko jewelry.

Sure, she’s showing some major leg real estate and vamping like her life depended on it, but the setting is still firmly on “Cute” and not “Sextastic.” Nothing wrong with a gal who wants to rock a sextastic look, but it never quite suited Lea and she REALLY oversold it. We took to our fainting couches the last time someone wore pink lace, but we think this mostly works here; especially for her. Like we always say, her goal should be quirky and cute and girly, and this hits all those buttons nicely. We don’t even mind the matchy shoes. Maybe because they’re killer shoes.

Keep it up, Lea. We’re loving this New You.

Very pretty.  Not sure I like the hair — a little to Heidi maybe, but I didn’t automatically think “of course,” so Win!

  • Hated the hairstyle but this color was fabulous on her.

  • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

    Nope.  Still annoying.

    • Agree. I rolled my eyes so hard when she won. Her character isn’t funny, and she’s veered too far into “vampy sexpot in the big city” for me.

      • cooperalden

Agreed.  Know your limits!  Yet another PR house turning someone not sexy into someone where they use the word SEXY in every article.  She looks like she is a dolled up Mama Celeste.  Not that that is a bad thing.

    • A. W.

The dress brings to mind Brazilian waxes.

  • I don’t love it, but it’s pretty nonetheless. I like the shoes, but not with this – too matchy.

  • Her face is going to be so sore from smiling like that! Pink lace gives me the vapours too, but this totally demonstrates the boobs or legs rule.

  • JasmineAM

Is she wearing plum mascara? And I agree this isn’t as over the top vamping, but it stills seems a bit “of course” to me.

    • Sobaika

Lower lashline looks like its been smudged with fuschia/purple and black.

    RIP Lea’s DuckFace, 2010-2012

    • AthenaJ

Perhaps it will rise up once again, Walking Dead style.

  • At the risk of being someone who can never be pleased, I’d like it a lot better without the peek-a-boo panels, and if it were July instead of January, FFS.

    Still, baby steps.

    • AthenaJ

Yeah, the ‘sheer’ panels and short length (plus overall tightness) bring this look more into sexyville than cutetown to me… but she does look good. Girl must be cold though, what are temps like in LA in January??

  • Sobaika

Feh. Great color (and her hair is adorable) but I think the glitter/lace/cutout/spackle combo is too much. She needs to stop preening, stop tanning, and go lighter with the makeup brush.

    Her legs are incredible.

EDIT: So I saw a picture of her hair from the back and it’s considerably less adorable. More like crazy. Still, it’s nice to see her in an updo.

    • Little_Olive

Yes to the dress (issues). There is way too much going on and the colors clash IMO.

  • Love the big smile! So nice not to see duck face. She looks great.

  • jilly_d

If my legs looked like that, you bets your ass I’d be showing the real estate too. I’m not in love with the hairstyle but it is nice to see her in an updo. She looks pretty great here.

    • Nicholas

True. I get it’s more of a quadriceps dress than uterus dress.

  • silaria

Ugh.  This dress offends every one of my sensibilities.  I normally like lace, and I like sparkles, but combining them with pink and cut-outs just makes it look like a tacky stripper dress.

  • Her facial expressions are making a world of difference!

  • procrastinatrice

For the first time, I actually like what she is wearing. There really is a first for everything. And yes, she is perfect for that dress–not everybody is.

    • JosephLamour

It would look very barbie’s playhouse on a blond person, so I’m glad someone else found it first. Also, I’m going to start using the phrase “Isn’t it pretty to think so?” every day.

      • Credit for that one has to go to Hemingway, not us. Still, it’s a great line.

        • Karen Maslowski

The Sun Also Rises. I just read it!

  • thecitysleeps

I hate this.  I hate the colour, and the length, and the sequin panel in the middle and how it looks like strawberry ice cream with vanilla swirls on her boobs.

    • cbt22

Agreed. It makes her boobs look super wonky.

  • Le_Sigh

    Teeth!  Girly!  Freshness!

Gawd that dress is an eyesore, but on Lea its a huge improvement from that ducky-tan mess she was trying to sell us before.

  • Now if we could only convince her to not smile quite so HARD all the time. I like this look on her, though the uber shiny doll legs are a bit much.

  • As soon as I saw this in the thumbnail, I thought, “Wow… That looks pretty covered-up and demure. It must be gynecologically short in the full view.” Thanks for the lack of surprises, Lea.

  • Dot

    Girlfriend loves her body shimmer!

    • 3boysful

It’s like when you’re a tween and receive a bottle of Bath & Body Works shimmer something for Xmas, and have to wear it everywhere, and all the time.

  • Chris T

Huh? This thing has “OF COURSE” written all over it. If she had been making a duck face it would have been a different story.

    • Robin Krug

Hate fruit-punch-colored lace. Would much rather have black or even bone-colored lace than this. Also I guess everyone is now wearing sandals in January. Bone throwing: love the hair.

  • librarygrrl64

Pink lace still makes me twitch, but at least it has some sparkle, and the color and fit are great for her. She looks cute and natural and unique. Which is how she should always look.

  • Judy_J

Have her legs started talking to her now?  Are her boobs jealous?  Inquiring minds want to know!

  • And what I like is that she’s smiling in these shots, no overdone pouting…

  • RebeccaKW

I like the dress and I don’t mind the shoes.  The hair is…well, I guess it could be worse.  I think she needed a stronger lip, though.

  • Yeah, someone on her PR team finally got the memo about her taking herself too seriously. This is SO much better!

  • schadenfreudelicious

oh those legs… such a glare! (said in my best Dowager Countess voice)

  • Meh. She looks too much like an ice skater.

  • I would really like it if it was longer.

  • lbl

Short. Sparkly. Pink. Elie Saab. And are those sheer panels?

It’s like she was ticking off as much as she could from my Hate List.

  • MilaXX

She does indeed look very pretty. I wish she had on a better, more substantial earring, but that’s a very minor quibble.

  • Imasewsure

I loved this on her… think she looks adorable and it’s totally appropriate for the event. I like the hair. It seems fine to me and suits her

  • Call me Bee

I would like this so much better if it were just a skootch longer.  Her make up and shoes, though, are awesome.  And this really is a cute dress, but at this length it gets her an “of course” from me.

  • Scoobydrew

She looks great … but  how I miss the days when all you said was OF COURSE … it always  made me laugh.

  • EolieV

Oh Lea is oooozing sugar in this pink dress!  A real bonbon in a candy bowl, so sweet, my teeth hurt. Ouch! The dress is pretty in a Barbie doll sort of way, and we have to admit it, she is thin enough and shapely enough to wear it. But I just cringe every time I see her posing for pictures. So affected, a la Paris Hilton. Don’t know if she is nice in real life but that makes her look vain, foolish and arrogant. Does she think it sets her apart from other celebrities? Makes her look sexy and daring? Makes me dislike her.

  • nannypoo

She looks better when she doesn’t have that camera-ready grimace on her face, like in the 2nd and 3rd from the bottom, but I still am not willing to concede that she looks good.

  • MzzPants

That’s a great color for her.

  • shopgirl716

I also think this is far sexier on her than some of her other getups.

  • She looks OK, IMO, but there’s always something so — I don’t know, desperate somehow — about her affect that’s unappealing to me. She always looks like she’s trying too hard.

  • alyce1213

I like the dress and the shoes; I just can’t stand her.

  • libraangel

I never thought that I would be typing the statement: Lea Michele looks beautiful.

  • Louise Bryan

I think it crosses the line when the underwear is visible, especially with such a short hem.  For that matter pairing such a short hem with such high heels.  And then the Heidi hair (thanks, twocee).  I’m not feeling the love.  She looks just a tad too much like she’s trawling.

    • Qitkat

You must really have x-ray vision, because I’m not seeing visible underwear.

    • libraangel

Your opinion, but she is young, so show the legs. I don’t think she looks cheap or nasty like so many of the other “starlets” do.

  • Is she wearing pink eyeliner? Some of the shots make her look like she has pinkeye. That’s a bridge too far for me. But the rest is cute. The pink lace is less offensive because so much of it is covered in pink sequins, which are somehow less tacky. Somehow. Very cute. She should make the t-shirt silhouetted minidress her thing, it really works for her.

  • hi, i’m lea, and here’s everything i’ve got below the waist.  again.  are her legs covered with baby oil?  easy entry?

  • barbarienne

She has a runway up her middle. I imagine if she lies down on her back, little model airplanes will land on her.

  • Alexina04

Ever since the Fug Girls said the dark pink part looks like what’s left after a bikini wax, that is, unfortunately, all I can see. But I do so want those shoes!

    •  This is why we love those girls. They say things we would never, in a million years, think of ourselves.

  • anotherkate

Her smile makes me want to smile back. And her legs are making me regret living on a ground floor apartment.

  • Quirky sexy, you go girl!

  • quiltrx

I really like Elie Saab, and this is a pretty little dress.  It could be a little longer, but it suits her.  Not wild about the hair.

  • I’m going to miss saying, “Of course!” every time I saw her.

  • sherrietee

Really?  You like this?  With the weird partial beading and lace … I dunno.  It looks like a hot pink chia pet.

  • What?? no feathers? Lea you disappoint me!

  • Trisha26

Okay, if you’re not saying it, TLo, then I am “Of Course.” It’s way too pink, way too short, sextastic body or not, and combined with the too coy poses it’s just too Lea Michele Barbie. Then there’s the hair situation.

    • libraangel

Repeat: Barbie has long blonde hair, big boobs, and is cute. Lea M is none of these.

  • Hooker heels.

    • libraangel

Your opinion, but I have seen worse, higher heels on some, even sweet Emma Stone

  • Could someone define vamping; don’t get how it’s being used.

  • the dress may be pretty maybe annoying, but  she really needs to have a  bra-fitting section with an expert.

  • “Of course” is the first thing that came to mind, but it’s her thing, and she’s cute.

  • luciaphile

It’s a step in the right direction. I like the color on her. I even don’t mind the hair. There is a lot of room for improvement though. I like the shoes, but I think they’re a bit much for this particular dress. An inch longer on the hem of the dress and I think I’d really like this.

  • bluefish

She looks great here.  Really pretty little dress in a color that suits her.  And with legs like those, why not?  Like the shoes too.

Your opening phrase on this one is very amusing.

  • It’s still 2-3 inches too short….

  • snarkykitten

blehhhh she looks like a Barbie Doll. and wtf it looks like white girl has some whack ass corn rows

    • libraangel

LOL about the corn rows, but a Barbie has long blonde hair and has big boobs – and is cute! (me bad)

  • Much improved. She looks cute and quirky. And it’s working.

  • It’s cute…but I hate the hair, and the dress is a scotch too short for my taste….and I’m not really into the combo of pink lace and uber glitteriness…and I hate the shoes.  Ok, nevermind. I totally just talked myself out of liking it. Lol.

  • kategs

I am such a fud sometimes…two inches longer at least please!

  • neofashionista

Hot PINK lace panels are NOT ok, they should be reserved for 3 year olds in tutus and Elle Woods

  • julnyes

I don’t like the dress or the hairstyle, but it is a great color on her.

  • AnneElliot

She makes my teeth ache, but I have an irrational hatred of her.  I stopped watching Glee BECAUSE of her.

  • formerlyAnon

Yup. Very cute. May she continue.

  • MarissaLG

    She looks fantastic!

  • Super cute, though verging on Barbie pink, she’s tan enough to pull it off. Dislike the matchy matchy shoes, however.

  • I don’t like pink, but it’s a great color on her.  And I like the matchy shoes.

  • Lisa M. (ReVoir) Kramp

Hair’s a little severe for such a happy look. I’m not a killer stilletto sandal fan, but those shoes are spectacular.

    • libraangel

      I WANT those shoes!

  • EdgarAllenPwn

Every time I see a picture of her I think “go away”

  • lilazander

GOD! She looks old bovine and boooooooorrrriiinnng…………!

  • This looks very Miami to me–anyone else?

    (and that’s a good thing!)
