Katie Holmes in Chloé

Posted on January 18, 2013

This an almost perfect iteration of THE Katie Holmes look.

Katie Holmes attends the opening night performance of ‘The Other Place’ at the Manhattan Theatre Club in New York City in Chloé.

It’s slouchy and intellectual, a bit Diane Keaton in Annie Hall crossed with current Vogue editor. We dig it, but we’d dig it a whole hell of a lot more if she ditched those ugly shoes. A shame, really. A good bootie would have been the perfect capper to this outfit.

We sometimes marvel at the fact that we have jobs now that allow us to say things like “A good bootie would have been the perfect capper to this outfit” with a semi(but not really)-straight face.

Love the jacket/shirt and pants.  Hate the shoes.  Really hope that is a lipstick smudge on her lips from her hair/wind and not the herps on her lips.

      • procrastinatrice

meh, I will like her more if it is in fact a cold sore. Misery loves company.

        • LLuL

Not the first pic of her with a cold sore. Sucks. Another reason to be glad you’re not Katie Holmes, I suppose.

      • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1531695734 Melinda Mary

Love that she doesn’t have a problem being photographed with a cold sore.  What confidence.

      • barbarienne

And if it is the herps on her lips? What, you gonna give a girl shit for having a virus that pretty damn near every human is at least a carrier of?

Sorry, you hit a sore spot (ha ha sore spot, get it?) for me. I’ve had “the herps” since I was an infant. The window for stopping a cold sore from sprouting is about 20-30 minutes from when you feel one coming on, and I really get sick of being judged by people who almost certainly have the virus in their bodies, but have the right genetic combination that it doesn’t go active.

        • Elizabetta1022

I have the same problem. What do you do in that 20~30 minutes to prevent it?

          • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_ZBFH32YG44LIIZYLSQPMBXMYCU Sarah

If you have the money, you purchase Abreva, and apply it liberally. It will work. If you don’t, you purchase L-Lysine compound, in pill or topical form, which is an amino acid which will keep it from getting as bad as it can, and make the whole episode shorter. I have also had it my whole life, since infancy. And I would like to say, this blog is definitely NOT for talking about that stuff, so while I am happy to offer advice to YOU, those above should have kept that observation to themselves.

            • Elizabetta1022

              Thanks, Sarah!

    • Sobaika

      What a great little blazer.

    • joancarol

      Charlie Chaplin

    • eowyn_of_rohan

I want that jacket.  Who do I have to kill for that jacket? (And who do I have to kill to make sure those shoes are never ever seen again?)

    • schadenfreudelicious

love the jacket, the suede hooves should be burned…

    • alyce1213

I’m not too crazy about the puffy pants; they make this tall, slender woman look stumpy legged.
The jacket is gorgeous — that color!, the shirt’s nice, but a pair of flattering, slimmer pants (and of course a good bootie) would make this look so much better.

    • http://twitter.com/cornekopia Shawn EH

Maybe those shoes are really comfortable?

    • Judy_S

She suddenly looks older to me than she did a few months ago. But she looks comfortable and cheerful, which I like.  The shoes look as if she has worn them in the past, which I will take over brand-new shiny red-soled stilts two sizes too big any day (though, yeah, they pull it down).

    • MK03

      HAIR OUT OF YOUR FACE.

      • charlotte

I don’t know, maybe she’s standing outside and it’s windy?

        • vandeventer

Well if you’re going to pose for pictures (outside, inside, whatever), you should at least take a moment and get the hair out of your face.

          • Pam Winters

I’m getting the feeling she wants it there. It seems like I’ve seen a lot of photos of her with tendrils across her face.

    • GorgeousThings

Give her big poufy hair and she would look like she was going to an ’80s revival party.

      • judybrowni

        Not Annie Hall, here.

But secretary buying from the Limited. Hate the pants that make her look hippy, and the big shirt with the teeny jacket.

I can’t believe we’re going to relive the worst of the ’80s fashions.

    • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gabriella M

Man I want to steal that jacket.

    • Annabelle Archer

While I don’t care for it, or hardly anything that she wears, I do appreciate that she has a signature style.  I just want good things for her and I’m glad some PR machine hasn’t been trying to crank out some NEW and IMPROVED! version of her whereby she looks like someone else is selecting her clothes.  I do love that about one of every ten times, she nails a hot look and the other times it’s an endearing miss.

    • http://twitter.com/emilyf007 emily

Those shoes are hideous. And I don’t think this is the first time they’ve been called out by TLo. They need to disappear. Permanently.

    • Imasewsure

Hope this look does not catch on…. Annie Hall/Diane Keaton but also Candace Bergen… fine (with better footwear as noted) but aging and dull on her

    • In_Stitches

Booties with those pants?  I don’t see it?  I’d prefer a sandal.  Granted, it’s winter, so a sandal isn’t exactly appropriate, but you suffer for fashion.

    • MilaXX

Yup Annie Hall 2013. Fix the hair and get a better shoe and I could completely cosign this look.

    • LearnedFoot

      Oh, those pants.

*Runs off to read Suri’s Burn Book*

      • Vickiefantastico

Someone turned me on to that blog on here a few weeks ago. I spent a whole afternoon reading it.

Doesn’t “Suri” talk about those very shoes?

        • http://twitter.com/sebwfu Shannon Beamer

She does, in fact.  They are the “elfin booties.”  Love.it.

        • akprincess72

Ah geez, now I have to investigate!

    • BrooklynBomber

That jacket looks gorgeous but I hate the ’80s-meets-headwaiter cut of it.

    • Judy_J

Yeah, the shoes are an unfortunate choice.  That is a great jacket!  Love the color.

    • Snoskred747

Has Stank Boot turned into Stank Shoe?

    • Sara__B

She seems to dress for comfort, so why does she always look so awkward and uncomfortable?

    • lilibetp

How can you tell it’s Katie Holmes?  Surie isn’t attached to her.

    • crash1212

Wow. That is a beautiful jacket. I kind of love this outfit…not crazy about the shoes…as noted above.

    • http://twitter.com/lisledanielle Danielle Lisle

Excellent blazer, but she looks older than I remember?

    • RebeccaKW

Love the top half, hate the bottom half.  Satan’s pants and shoes.

    • Alyssa Stanfield

Love the blazer, and I understand the look she’s going for, but I would prefer a cigarette pant instead of what’s she’s got on. And of course, different shoes!

    • random_poster

      That jacket is divine!

    • http://twitter.com/stellaphone Stella Zawistowski

It just looks like she pulled all the gold rickrack off her high school marching band uniform and then untucked her shirt. Not loving it. (And I can’t with the shoes.)

    • Lilak

Oh for cryin’ out loud . . . Nifty jacket, but the rest of it is stuff any lady over 50, say, has in the ‘basics’ part of her closet — purchased at an end-of-season sale at Belk (with coupons)*.

      (1) Not that there’s anything wrong with that kind of thing on its own; and (2) *I know whereof I speak . . . . But Katie Holmes? And she gets a feature? And her hair is horrible?
If she’d assembled something clever out of this sort of thing, I’d say ‘yay’ — put up a photo and let’s vote.  But this is just lazy; she’s never shown she has the wit to conceive and execute this look successfully.
      Enough already.

      • mhleta

Bingo. The key to finding the magic in a look like this is proportion. If you’re going to go baggy on top, do a nice, fitted cigarette pant and a girly shoe on the bottom. A few other pointers: 1) If you’re going to pose like you’re on the cover of a magazine, then get it together like you’re on the cover of a magazine. 2) If the shoes match the grime and filth on the sidewalk, best leave them for slouching around the manse. 3) If you’ve got The Herpes, get The Concealer. A single string of loose hair crawling across The Face isn’t going to hide The Herpe. Cover that shit.

    • Lisa Salmon

Really?  You like this? - she looks like a slob.

    • Janet B

Except for the shoes, she’s dressed for spring isn’t she?  Doesn’t she own a fabulous coat and boots for winter?

    • ankali

I feel like ugly shoes and unflattering pants have become hallmarks of the Katie Holmes look. Too bad, as the blazer is great enough that it almost saves the entire outfit.

    • frannyprof

Can’t wait to read what Suri has to say about those hiddy shoes.

    • http://victoriapavlova.com Victoria Pavlova

I WANT that jacket! Perfect color, interesting silhouette, plain awesomeness.

    • Zippypie

Burn the baggy pants already!  Those are more offensive to me than the ugly shoes.  On second thought, burn them both.  Katie always manages to dress her top half quite cute and then fall apart on the bottom.  Just not flattering at all.

    • Trisha26

I’ve liked her on screen in a few things – but she can only dream of reaching Annie Hall status – on screen or Diane Keaton off. This outfit is hideous.

    • maggiemaybe

Those shoes are making me sad… and a little ANGRY.

    • kathrineb

      Sad pants!

    • Anniebet

Does this woman just not CARE about how she looks? Only the jacket is acceptable, IMO. Even the sidewalk she’s standing on is icky. Get thee to a stylist, Katie dear, and a hair salon. Do-it-yourself isn’t working for you.

    • conniemd

Hey, I’m learning styles. I took one look at this picture and immediately thought Diane Keaton In Annie Hall. I adore Diane Keaton BTW.

    • quiltrx

This outfit is really cute–takes me back to the late 80s in the best possible way.

But those shoes MUST DIE.  They are butt ugly AND look like they’re on the wrong feet!

    • Kate Lorenz

Her style (slouchy and often mensweary) reminds me a bit of Althea from PR.  Maybe Althea should send her some free samples :)

    • Mexxoo

The whole thing looks like a “Fat Day” outfit.  Nice to know that stars have fat days, too!

    • BigWhiteGrannyPanties

She looks just cute as hell.  And nerdy and comfy.  YAY!

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1531695734 Melinda Mary

      Love the jacket.

    • DeTrop

The hair – eek. Channeling Salvador Dali maybe?  Love the jacket.

BTW, isn’t she involved in a clothing line?

    • http://profiles.google.com/sauchih Sau-Chih Feng

      What, hair in the face?

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_VZLU6YVO4BRTELTTH3GRAAMWZQ Dot

What a waste of a perfectly sharp jacket. The rest is absolutely horrible.
