he looks great!
Unexpected, but I kind of like it.
…meh… he looks like jude law on A.I.
Quick, someone tell me if this is good. I can never see past his douchery and it’s a whiteboard post so I’m relying on you all to talk me away from HE IS A STUPID AND ALWAYS LOOKS STUPID.
JT has never seemed like a douche to me
Hmm I can’t stand him, but that’s just me. This might be because I paid actual money to see In Time.
But he’s actually not douche-baggy in the sense that he can make complete fun of himself (e.g. his many, humiliating and hilarious Saturday Night Live appearances). Also, I like it that he is wearing checks on checks on checks it seems. I can’t imagine if he were in front of old fashioned TV cameras. It would probably make the TV explode. My complaint is that he seems ALWAYS IN NEED OF A SHAVE. Always. What is that about?
Yeah, I could never stand him until I saw him dressed as a breast implant on SNL. Now I set my DVR if I know he’s hosting.
That’s who he reminds me of — Pinky Lee! — he of the baggy, oversized, over-checked suits! No, really, Justin looks great, just too many patterns. I love his straightened hair (remember the blond cornrows? When he wanted to look “gangsta”?)
I usually agree with that 100%, but this suit is very unexpected and kind of great.
It’s not gonna be me. I 100% agree with you. Can’t take him seriously.
Was that intentionally a play on his former boyband’s pop hit single, “It’s Gonna Be Me”? Because I wanna let you know: I definitely chose to read it as such
Yeah. I’m mostly Team Sobaika, too. Justin’s great on SNL, but I can’t get over how well and thoroughly he sold Janet out, and how we would have never, ever, EVER heard of this fool’s solo career without Timbaland, so he is by no means the second coming of R&B, as he was being touted for a while.
However, he does look pretty great here, though I can’t stand that he always either has neck pubes or neck stubble, and I don’t like how overall stubbly he is here. But, he’s well turned out, and he put in some effort. Considering how many male starts TLo have had to take to task for showing up like the red carpet is the last stop on a lost weekend, I have to give him big ups.
I am loving your screenname.
Why, thank you–one of the first books that impacted me was one of her biographies. SojournerTruth is unfortunately taken most of the time, so this is my second option, which I like for entirely different reasons
Agree. He’s got a gift for comedy, but his bizarre insistence on being a Serious Actor when he’s not built for it, the way he treats his girlfriends, the JUMPING ALL OVER BIEL (who I also can’t stand, but another time) on the cover of their wedding issue, the humorous video of homeless people at their wedding, the bizarre attempt to railroad all the attention away from the Globes (jesus, just pick another day and bask in the undivided attention, why you gotta crash someone else’s party? OH RIGHT BECAUSE YOU’RE JUSTIN DOUCHEBERLAKE)…okay, basically what I’m saying is, the bad outweighs the good in my mind.
Also, I don’t think these colors are good with his skin tone–maybe if the tie were higher-contrast?–and the longer, straightened hair is kind of freaking me out. He’s one person I think should pretty much always stick with a basic buzz, maybe a tiny bit extra in the front.
He’s never seemed like a douche to me. I’ve always thought of him as a nice, sweet guy. And he’s funny as hell, so that’s great too. Also, his music is pretty great.
I liked him ok- even through the Janet debacle where he acted like an ass, and almost entirely on the strength of SexyBack being my JAM for a hot second- until that whole homeless video thing was made for his wedding. There is no coming back from the douchebag levels on that one.
To be fair, he issued an apology/clarification of sorts that I didn’t exactly think was 100% perfect, but it’s there.
You know, I would tend to feel to that way about him, except for all the goofy stuff he does on SNL and his role in Bad Teacher — he is obviously not afraid of looking like an ass, and I find that a little endearing.
If he does dress his wife, I have to wonder why he dresses himself so well and her so poorly? I don’t know if this is a pitch to be cast in Downton Abbey, but I am loving the check suit and knit tie.
Well, men’s and women’s fashion are two totally different worlds. I know zero about men’s clothing but can dress myself pretty well.
I think he (or Jessica Biel or her stylist or someone) is still trying to push a fashionista angle. Which is clever considering her acting career isn’t at its height, and you can get a lot of mileage of style – for example, I’ve never seen Camilla Belle in anything but I know her name and she has a lot of ‘buzz’ and shows up at events and wears pretty dresses.
The problem is that high fashion is NOT her thing. She almost always ends up looking ridiculous and overly fussy. Someone put her in a smooth Calvin Klein, stat!
Yes, but do you try to dress men? I totally agree about her needing simpler looks.
You mean you don’t know Camilla Belle from her 2000 Disney Channel Original Movie about teenage surfers called “Rip Girls”?! That’s all I associate her with.
I saw her in a weird little sci-fi movie that should have been better than it was, and she was pretty lifeless. (Granted, her character was sick or unconscious a lot, but still.) She and her incredible eyebrows didn’t strike me as enough motivation for Chris Evans to be running all over Shanghai like that.
He does look great in this but I saw this on television and thought “too much print JT” it hurt my eyes too look at it.
Looks good for having slept in his suit all night before brunch at a country estate.
The length of that jacket is making me crazy. It makes him look hippy and weird. If it were shorter and fit better (those arms look huge to me), this would be a killer look!
I don’t mind the length, but all those wrinkles indicate that the suit is just ever so slightly too small for him. A Tom Ford suit, which is generally well tailored, should not have that issue if it fits well.
Totally unexpected -love it! His grooming here is the best I’ve ever seen it, I think, usually don’t “get” him but here, yes yes yes! Only one slight demerit for arriving to this event with wrinkly-pants. Here is where that horse-trailer to the stars we talked about would come in handy.
Something is not quite right with those eyebrows. Can’t put my finger on it..
But other than that he looks cute.
I’ve a feeling this looks better away from the bright RC lights and camera flashes….those creases in his pants are quite distracting. I like the idea of this, but not loving it. The tie is wrong imo…too casual, too textured, and too light. Contrast with a darker fabric would have helped. I think he needed a belt too…not to mention a shave. I like his hair like this tho.
There’s too much going on here for me. That eighties tie with the shirt and then the pattern in the suit hurts my eyes a little. And I know he can’t help it because he needs to travel to get there, but the wrinkles on the legs and arms bother me too. Also, does he not have makeup on, or is there a little around his nose and eyes? Something looks off there on his face.
He looks good. Love the checks in both the suit and shirt. And the colors make his eyes stand out. Too bad about the wrinkles. Either he had a very long car ride or Tom Ford needs to rethink the material of the pants. Or maybe he just had the pants around his ankles for a very long time.
Oh TLo – you’re copping out here posting this as a Whiteboard entry..
There should be an awards show rules – all fashion should be discussed by the poster – no whiteboard entries.
I love the suit, but I’m not a fan of the knit tie. Also, his pants look super baggy in the crotch area. Otherwise, no qualms at all.
Super baggy AND it looks like his penis is trying to say hello. Very weird crotchal issues.
However, I respect the man for trying to go bold with the print.
I’m undecided about the longer (but not curly) hair–in the first picture he looks like he could be a 12-year old smiling for his school photo. Thoughts?
I can’t unsee the penis trying to say hello. Eek
Hahahaha! Now I can’t look at the picture and NOT see “his penis trying to say hello.”
I’m sending my psychiatrist bills to your house, mshesterp.
Much like his acting ability, he continues to ruin an otherwise great suit/movie. Ugh. Go away
I don’t know if that’s his suit, but it’s definitely his hair. Never thought he was handsome before, but yowza!
It seems pretty well-tailored to me, but the jacket’s a bit long for him; makes him look a bit stubby, which he isn’t. I don’t know if I like the juxtaposition of so many tiny patterns; it’s a little distracting– tiny plaid on the suit, tiny checks on the shirt, tiny texture on the tie, tiny squares on the pocket square… he could use some solid space to avoid the suit kind of taking him over. Props to him for grooming himself though; that’s a rarity these days for some reason.
Odd fit in the pants and not appropriate for the occasion. But for another type of event it would be sharp, with a different tie.
Really like this! My only complaints are that it’s a bit baggy on the bottom, and that the whole thing is just a tad wrinkled. But who knows, maybe he and new wifey had a particularly eventful limo ride over to the RC.
whoops-duplicate post, sorry!
Is this what he was wearing at the podium? I liked it better on screen. I’m not a fan of the knit tie and I think he needs to lock down his lumber a little better for a suit like this, if you get my drift, (JT drifts to the left, apparently.)
The pants seem wrinkle-y and ill fitting and the jacket too long. Those two combined give the odd illusion of a very long torso and stumpy legs. All I can think when I see this look is that Elijah Wood should be wearing it. Perhaps with a better fit I would like it on JT, but not this time.
Where is his belt?
Wow, he’s sporting grown-up hair this time. I like the suit but wished there was a color other than gray somewhere in the ensemble.
other than his big blue eyes? ~snerk~ He doesn’t do it for me, but I like the look and agree that a pop of color would be just the thing.
Yay! Knit ties are back in!!! Seriously, I’m really happy to see this. I like him in this look, but it is really wrinkly.
The SAG awards have become just another red carpet-like event in Hollywood–you know–where the guys sort of dress up and women look like they’re attending the Oscars? Most of the men that night were in suits and ties. I would have liked to see more short, cocktail length dresses to accompany, but then again, that’s just me. This was very nice but seemed a bit too casual given the female attire. On TV, it was a wonderful mixture of textures.
Given that it seemed to be a Tux kind of night, and that goofus tie, I think he looks under dressed for the event. Same suit/shirt combo for a TV appearance I’d have no complaints.
Is his tie knitted/crocheted or is it time for me to change my contact lenses…?
I don’t think that this is his suit. The fit and the look are put together pretty well. An outfit with this much style looks like it belongs on someone like Chris Colfer. Justin just isn’t pulling it off.
He doesn’t look like himself for some reason. Can’t put my finger on it.
He straightened his hair and he might be wearing colored contacts, too?
I think it’s because his eyebrows and beard are trimmed and outlined. It softened his face a lot.
I’m seeing Ewan McGregor for some reason. Which is why I like it…
I would prefer this suit on Ryan Gosling…yum! But JT looks good here! No complaints! Except, obviously, that Ryan Gosling wasn’t there…
Did he Botox?!?
Love the tie! Awesome.
Can I just say that I HATE the Whiteboard. This is the one outfit I wanted you guys to comment on and you put it on a WHITEBOARD. So frustrating!
Feels like a wink and a nod to the Steampunk Fashion Movement which is highly individualized and creative.
I’m on the fence with this one. JT is too short for this suit. If he had on a bow tie, he’d be Pee Wee-ing it. It seems to fit him well, though. Do not like the knit tie. Like the darker hair. I don’t know. There’s just something that’s not quite working here.
His tie looks way too wide, but that might also be the photo.
I guess I’m dating myself but all I can think of when I look at him is Robert Preston in The Music Man.
He never did it for me, but he’s doing it for me now. Wow he looks great.
Well, my friends, ya got trouble! Right here in River City!
The tie isn’t good. The suit is kind of sharp, kinda performing monkey.
His hair looks amazing, it totally changes his face.
For some reason, even though it’s properly hemmed and it’s an unusual choice, the suit is not working for me. It looks a little saggy.
he done gone and growed up some ain’t he.
So not his color – he looks … clammy.
Yes, the hair is terrific…most handsome he’s ever looked. But he is underdressed for the occasion. Is that suit part linen? It looks so wrinkly.
I love the idea of it and feel it would have been appropriate at a less formal function. The SAGs are always weird to me because the attendees seem to have such a broad “formality spectrum.” Does anyone else get that sense?
JT is not a douche. See all of his performances on the “Barry Gibb Talk Show” sketch on SNL. He’s terrific! But, he looks very washed out in this outfit.
He doesn’t seem quite dressed up enough, but he looks good. And I like his hair. Most of the time when I look at him I just see him as an old man (he reminds me of one of those Pixar chess-playing old men), but the straight hair changes that for me — he looks better.
I’m going to have to disagree with most here, I don’t like his hair. He just doesn’t have the masculinity to pull this suit and hair off. But I appreciate the effort, JT!
Why is he so wrinkled, and while I like the suit I don’t like the shirt or tie with the suit. Too many patters, eyes hurt.
i love this on him! he’s really working that suit & tie, but oh, how i wish the crochet ties would die. i’ll never get over how weird it is to see JT with straightened hair.
I think this is a little too cute for him.
Serious DBag is Serious
I loved this. Think he looks great
I find the look a bit jarring actually, like one of those optical illusion thingees…
I’m just glad to see a picture of him WITHOUT Jessica Biel in the picture. Goodness, she’s on my irrational hate list, and my opinion of HIM went down for it.
Agreed. I never much minded him before, and I quite enjoyed when he claimed to bring sexy back. But then the Biel happened and suddenly, I can hardly stand the sight of him.
I have to admit, I liked this look. I just hate what a smug douche he has become.
It fits. It’s different. He’s still a douche.
I like the fabrics but the wrinkles, especially on the arms, and the cut of the jacket give the impression he’s stuffed himself into a suit a tiny bit too small. Also, either he’s thickened a little through the waist and hips or the suit gives that impression.
I love his comedic stuff and wish he’d shave.
For what that suit cost ( and I’m not saying Timberlake should have worn it – all he’s missing is a cigar and a snapbrim hat), Timberlake deserved to have a suit that a) fit him better and b) be made out of a fabric that didn’t wrinkle all over his thighs. He looks as if he’d slept in the thing. And if you want to go around with your bottom button undone, then get a three-button jacket. This just looks sloppy.
He needs a “Dude, that’s not your suit.” The jacket is too tight, the shoes are the wrong color. And all those prints: Hideous. This is what he does when he dresses himself? Maybe his mother needs to supervise his wardrobe choices.
Looking at it gave me a headache. Kind of like a Magic Eye poster does.
I dislike him to the point that I find it a little hard to give him a compliment, but I like this (minus the tie).
Hair is dopey. Pants are embarrassingly wrinkles – what IS that fabric? Otherwise, this is a great look.
Oh my! Did I say that out loud?
Aren’t the SAG awards black tie? He looks a little…underdressed. Not to mention wrinkled.
I wish he’d worn a different tie, but he looks very cote and smart in that suit.
His hair is bugging me. Not that it’s bad, just — not so much him.
This looks silly at the SAGS, too wrinkled and too casual.
All he needs is a bowler and a cane, a little song, a little dance, a little seltzer in his pants, and he can go into vaudeville in 1938.
“Hello mah baby, hello mah honey…” Yep.
LIKE x1000. (But I think it’s kinda cute.)
If this were not an awards presentation event, I might be behind this look a little bit more. The pockets on the jacket, the knit tie, the checked shirt- it all reads a bit too casual for the task at hand.
Way too casual for the event. Perfectly cut. DESPISE the tie which is wholly inappropriate with this suit. That in an of itself makes this an OUT for me. Ok, I will give you that the tie makes his eyes jump right out, but still I didn’t like them when my 7th grade English teacher wore them. Even at 12, I knew the tie was horrible. I can’t even imagine how expensive that horrible thing is either.
Love the suit and the shoes and the rest. Tom Ford is so in love with the 60s — Wish he would another amazing movie. JT looks good … Shorter, sharper hair and a shave would have helped him knock it out of the park.
I still can’t forgive him for that jeans outfit. I know, I know, it was twelve years ago. I’m still angry.
Not evening wear. sorry JT.
Is that suit supposed to be worn without a belt? I don’t want to ding if that is the way the designer made it, but …
I like the suit and the knit tie is great. I also like the hair. I wish it wasn’t wrinkly, but people will continue to sit until we get that celebrity PopeMobile idea of the ground at BK Industries.
Wrinkle much? Love the look, but wish it didn’t look like he slept in it.
Why so wrinkly, pretty boy?
Major points to him for trying this, but I’m not sure it’s completely working here.
go home, justin timberlake. ugh.
He is not stylish enough to pull off this look, but I will thank his hair person for giving him a GROWN UP CUT for once.
It’s different, which I like, but the various patterns and textures aren’t working together for me. I give him points for not doing a boring dark suit though, more of these interesting suits please male stars.
LOVE the hair, and the suit looks so chic!
I’m sorry, no, I cannot get on board with these patterns that make my eyes go all wiggy. I understand that this is a very cool suit, but I can’t look at it because I get a headache.
Busy, busy, busy.
The look is daring – all those checks – but the jacket is just a little small, the slacks are wrinkled, and it’s just too casual for the event. He’s nicely groomed though!
I like it, but I’m also getting whiffs of “How To Succeed in Business without Really Trying” from his look.
I like his suit, but he kind of has the influenza pales.
A prissy little man in a prissy little suit. The look is perfectly suited to him.
There are some good ideas here, but all the different patterns end up looking very busy.
That suit is wearing you. Send it to someone who knows what to do with it.
Brandon Walsh at the West Beverly Homecoming dance.
He looks great. LOVE the hair. But I don’t think the fit is quite perfect on the suit. Props to him for going with something with visual interest though.
Passable but I think someone like Alan Cumming would pull off a suit like this much better.
Was he channeling Dick Van Dyke in Mary Poppins?
At what time o’clock happens SAG awards? By night, right? This is perfect for Ascot Races…or to lecture in oxford back in the 50′s
A bit seizurezy–but that might just be the monitor effect. . .
Jusin has this nerdy side. Even though he is a singer, actor, and supposed romeo, he looks like a nerdy whiny mediocre guy in repose. This is the suit for his nerdy side. By the way, he should be careful who he wears this in front of. It is possible that staring his ensemble could cause people with certain health issues to have a seizure. It is hard on the eyes within close range. All the chaos fades out from a distance.
