Morticia Addams at a cocktail party.  I do love those shoes, though.

      • http://eclectictsunami.blogspot.com/ Cassie

I wish it was MORE like that, because that sounds like a dress I would totally own.

        The shoes kick ass.

The cast in this particular background, I’ve found most interesting.

      • http://twitter.com/MajorBedhead MajorBedhead

Yes, I was thinking the same thing and trying to come up with a dialogue.

Girl 1: Do you see that THING on the back of her head?
        Guy: Is it…a spider?
Girl 2: Dood! What IS that? Is it a scorpion?
Guy: I think it’s the port where they’ve been keeping her in hyperstasis.

All three: don tin foil hats, exit stage left.

        • http://twitter.com/SparklyCasanova UglyCasanova

          Love you.

Girl 1: Holy shit, I just saw an elf working the gears inside her head.
Guy: Where?  I don’t see it.
Girl 1: It just closed the door.
          Guy: Wait … I … think
Girl 2: Yous didn’ see nothin’.  Move it along.
Girl 1: Alright … (sneaks a side glance).
          Guy: There!
          Girl 2: MOVE IT!

Zoom in on Chastain’s wide eyed face to the music from Logan’s Run.

      • zuzu

         They’re very animated about something.

    • V V

      No, no, no, no, NO.

    • http://twitter.com/foodycatAlicia foodycatAlicia

Those shoes are horrible. I can’t tell if they are satin or leather but they are ghastly either way. I like the dress but I honestly think the best way to show those collar necklaces is to have them over a plain round-necked top.

      • http://twitter.com/kbshee kbshee

I like the necklace but it is blending into her skin.

      • 3boysful

Agree on both counts.  If those shoes weren’t red on the soles, I’d have pegged them as a Payless clearance item.

      • TRSTL

Agreed about the necklace!  At first glance, I thought “Why does that lace dress have a silver lace peter pan collar? Weird.”  If you are going to do a peter pan diamond necklace, skip the lace.

    • maggiemaybe

She looks very pretty but those shoes are FUGLY.

    • Christy Cricow

You guys are tough….I think she looks great.

    • Sara__B

The collar is hiding the edge of the illusion netting. Ick.

I wish she’d learn to pose. She always reminds me of a grade school kid in the front row of the class photo.

      • eowyn_of_rohan

Oh God, I didn’t see the illusion netting until you mentioned it.  Are those SEAMS that I see?  This will give me nightmares.

      • barbarienne

Oh, shit, it IS illusion netting. Ugh. WHY?

      • Introspective

She needs posing lessons from Emily Blunt. Did you see that bitch give face and body in that nude dress with the cutouts??? fierce.

Jess needs to bitch it up pronto before awards season poledancing begins and she comes out a loser…

      • whitrome

How is that illusion netting even remotely necessary with this neckline?

    • charlotte

So we are Pre-Fall now. Only 9 months to go!
Jessica should put on the coat she went “for a walk” in recently and never take it off. And burn those shoes.

      • http://twitter.com/dollsaga Dollsaga

not really,  Marshall’s Dept.  2012 summer collection had it.  the dress is now on clearance sale in Marshall’s, available in White as well.

    • Bridget212323

i like the dress but not on her.

    • Sobaika

Not perfect, but she doesn’t always look this good gussied up.

    • http://www.ellenciompi.com/ NurseEllen

I want to know what the crowd in back of her is discussing.  Right now I’m convinced the conversation is in Italian….something about the facial expressions.  And I’m sure they are saying the Italian equivalent of, “we don’t need no stinkin’ lace dresses.”

    • j_anson

      Black lace: still evil.

    • NC_Meg

I like it. The shoes look cheap but other than that, it’s not bad.

    • http://twitter.com/peacebang Victoria Weinstein

She’s so psyched about those shoes, you can just tell. This would have been better without the neck bling and the red lipstick. Maybe a messy up-do and a stronger eye to rough it up a little bit? Wait. Oh my god. I just realized the bling is part of the dress. And… illusion netting…and seams. Barf.

      • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_ZBFH32YG44LIIZYLSQPMBXMYCU Sarah

Yes, Barf. I had the same slow realization upon scrolldown: “Oh, there’s another black lace number” to “That necklace doesn’t go…” then  “What is up with her sternum? Is that ILLUSION NETTING?!?!?” and finally “Wait! It’s ALL ONE PIECE! BLARGH!”

    • http://profile.yahoo.com/PZJXF5ET5W5PMUIIGTTNOKHVSY Ka T

My first reaction is “BRRRRR!!!!”  Outside in NYC in January sans coat.  I can’t even look without getting eye-sicles.

    • http://twitter.com/ndpndntfilm Susan Velazquez

That necklace is all wrong for that dress, which I love but it looks like a generic dress you can buy off the rack at Forever 21. The heels look like club wear to me.

    • http://www.facebook.com/AntoniaDonnelly Antonia O’Connor Donnelly

Those shoes probably cost more than my rent,  what a waste of a rent payment.  As for the dress,  I wish the ladies would get over the black lace, or lace in general thing that has been going on for the past few years.  A little lace goes a  long way.  Whatever is going on in the background is way more interesting.

    • kimmeister

I don’t hate the black lace and didn’t even notice the illusion netting until it was pointed out in the comments, but I am irked by the fact that the lining appears to have wide horizontal stripes.

    • SorayaS

I salute the effort- from the neck up she looks fabulous (love the collar necklace). However the shoes are hideous and the black lace just isn’t working for her. She can pull off that silhouette nicely though.

    • Imasewsure

I don’t love black lace but i like this one on her and i actually love the shoes

    • E. D.

That necklace is too detailed for the dress.  Thought I would hate the shoes, but actually don’t mind them.

    • jmorino08

Pretty lady in a pretty dress, but I don’t think that’s the right silhouette for her.

    • another_laura

I can’t with the “collar looking like necklace but attached to netting” thing.  That is lame.  End of story.

    • http://twitter.com/PhDKnitter marlie

I love the dress, but without the neckline and the faux collar necklace thingy. And I don’t have a problem with a platform heel, but these are just a skosh too high, even for my taste.

    • Trisha26

Sally Field should have worn this instead of the longish black lace mess featured in yesterday’s column. This needs a belt and less slutty shoes, and as cute as that necklace is, it’s too busy for the lace. Not crazy about the lip color – otherwise she looks pretty.

    • Lisa M. (ReVoir) Kramp

Ugly dress, hooker shoes, inappropriate (though lovely) jewelry. Yuck.

    • nannypoo

Oh, why do we bother? She’s beyond our help.

    • Carla_Charlton

      Oh, jeez…those shoes!

    • RocknRollmom

I like the dress and even the Harry Winston collar but from a person who loves almost all things with red soles, those are hooker shoes and that is NOT a hooker dress.

    • GorgeousThings

      That’s a lotta look for a play.

    • margaret meyers

She looks great, but the idea of accessorizing this proper LBD with THREE emphatic New Yawkers was brilliant.

    • understateddiva

It wouldn’t work without the pumps and the straight-ironed hair, they sell it.  Cute!

    • Verascity

Her makeup has been great lately but this dress is not for her.

    • Zippypie

      Enough lace.  Enough hoof shoes.

    • l_c_ann

How to waste a Harry Winston collar necklace.

    • barbarienne

Well, she doesn’t look as if she’s going to a funeral, at least. I think it looks pretty damn good on her, even if it’s a basic dress. The necklace/collar really makes the look (though I desperately want to just tweak it back to center…)

    • SewingSiren

The showed a commercial of that goddamned movie during Once Upon a Time and it scared the shit out of my youngest kid.  So I hate it.

    • MilaXX

Pretty. Not completely sold on the shoe, but in profile I don’t completely dislike them.

    • quiltrx

Now, see?  THIS is how a lace dress should be done.  Not that allover-cheap-by-the-yard kind of pattern, but a pattern that actually relates to the shape and style of the dress.  I think this is VERY pretty.

Those shoes are too clunky, though.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_F73LIJ3SJGI5AJQMXMWXCKILHI Pamela

Young Italian widow in wanna-be FM shoes.

    • Call me Bee

Love this dress!  The neckline and caop sleeves keep it from being too frumpy, and the black lace keep it from being too juvenile. I do wish, though, that platforms would go away–this outfit would have looked so much better with some more lady-like shoes.

    • Tatiana Luján

The dress is a bit too long, the necklace doesn’t go with it and the shoes are hideous. But her hair and face look very pretty and she can pull of the lace.

    • whitrome

I really think she should have gone with a stronger eye and possibly a different lipstick color, something less expected and harsh, perhaps a plummy pink. I love lace and even the silhouette, but her styling ought to have been more….ladylike, and less severe.

    • Frank Lithium

      Yikes.

    • marilyn

I thought NYC was cold this time of year.  She is certainly hearty to be outside without a coat.

Also, her legs are about 10 shades darker than the rest of her skin.  She needs to spray tan all exposed skin, not just th legs.

    • OrigamiRose

Am I the only one who can’t get with the black/near-black nails thing?  To me, there is nothing sexier than a solid red.

      /crickets?

      //sighs

    • afabulous50

I must say – she kicked ASS in Zero Dark Thirty…

    • decormaven

The what? A blinged-out Peter Pan necklace? Whatever for? That’s about as silly as a bedazzled sippy cup.

    • captrenault

Where that waistline is sitting isn’t doing her any favours.  She’s looking a lot bigger around the hips than she really is.

    • Lilithcat

Those shoes look ridiculous with that dress.

      • janierainie

The word clodhoppers comes to mind.

    • RedRaven617

      Meh

    • jw_ny

I don’t understand why that dress/neckline needed the illusion netting up to her neck.  It seems that somehow the sleeves could’ve been held up another way…boning?  She needed a bold necklace to cover up that awful white seaming.    I’m in the minority here in that I do like the necklace with the dress…as well like the shape of the bust line too.  Shoes are wrong for the dress…simple classic pump would’ve been best.   Wish she would have pinned each side of her hair back instead of just the one side.

    • Louise Bryan

I think she looks very pretty, not particularly dramatic.  She’s doing better with the black lace than most of the women wearing it on the red carpet.

    • librarygrrl64

I don’t love the shoes with this, but that dress is lovely (I know, black lace, but I think the black saves the style from being too twee), and I liked the “necklace” even more when I saw the close-up and realized it was a collar. I like the simple hair with this, and her makeup is pretty. :-)

    • Jennifer Coleman

Wow, I don’t think I’ve ever seen funereal twee before. First time for everything, I guess.

    • SophieCollier

So pretty! Needs a belt, does not need the necklace, but still, a very pretty dress.  I love the neckline/sleeves.
