Jessica Chastain in New York City

Posted on January 04, 2013

We think Kathy Griffin won the “wine-colored-coat on the streets of NY” contest this week, but Jessica’s offering up a cute little funky alternative.

Jessica Chastain smiles for fans on her way out of the Walter Kerr Theatre in New York City.

Burberry London Boysenberry Technical Cotton-Blend Queensbury Trench Coat

Prada Flower Leather Mary-Jane Platform Pumps

We’re more partial to Kathy’s coat, but those Prada shoes and a pair of jeans turn this into an entirely different kind of look. High-end funky. High-heeled Boho. It’s cute and it suits her really well.

I never thought I’d be the kind of girl who would save up for Prada shoes, but I think I just wet myself a little bit when I saw those.  God DAMN!

  • butterflysunita

I don’t know, I look at that coat and just shiver.  It’s way too cold in NYC right now for cute cotton blend coats.  Bring on the down sleeping bag coats!

    • Louise Bryan

Probably OK if you have a heated limo waiting for you a couple of yards from the stage door.

  • jonnyf8

Since we’re so concerned about unwarranted smuggness, doesn’t this one win the award?

    • Sobaika

I don’t get that vibe from her at all, but even so, she isn’t fully saturated the market quite yet.

    • Nicole Chubb

She still seems to me like she’s figuring out the whole fame business and the modeling that goes with it. She gives off the vibe of an awkward teenager who doesn’t realize she’s cool most of the time. And I find it endearing.

ETA: An awkward teenager with fabulous shoes.

      • kcarb1025

It might be endearing if she was close to being a teenager, but when you’re 40 years old, it’s not cute or endearing.

        •  She’s got a way to go before 40. And to have been slogging away as an actress for 20 years before getting recognition, I think the “doesn’t realise she’s cool” is warrented and endearing.

          • kcarb1025

LMao no, she doesn’t. She MIGHT be one or two years from 40, but if you believe she is closer to 30 than 40, I have some ocean-front property in Arizona to sell you.

          • mike__tv

Wow that sounds pretty Good, it does get quite hot in Arizona I hear. Would be great to be by the bea- Waaaaaaaaaaaaait a minute! Honestly If you told me she was 29 I would believe you.

          • ecallaw1977

Wow, I would have believed 29, too.  I was surprised to google and see 35.  I’ve never seen her in a movie or interview, though, so maybe she appears older that way.

          • She’s 36 isn’t she? Not closer to 30 than 40 but not “MIGHT be one or two years from 40”. Or do you think she lies about her age?

        • Laylalola

Oh but she was born in 1981, doncha know (at least that’s what the sites that love her report).

          • Better check your math.

          • Laylalola

Don’t look at me, there are sites reporting in all seriousness that she’s 31.

          • alyce1213

Wiki has her as 35, born in 1977. They seem to back it up by citing high school and college attendance dates.

          • kcarb1025

It’s what her fans love to believe!! Crazy.

  • Chris T

Man, I hate those shoes. They look like a craft project.

  • This may be the best she’s ever looked. If she does this well with casual, why does she get it so wrong for fancy events? I’d have preferred the shoes in the original green though.

    • Kristin McNamara

Her hair looks beautiful against that wonderful purple of the coat.

    • librarygrrl64

Yes, I concur on the original green. Green forever and always.

  • I thought I was sick of platforms but those shoes, in that caramel color…

  • I freakin’ love her hair. It’s sad to think that redheads might become extinct.

  • captrenault

Gingers with purple/burgundy — hard to go wrong.

    • Qitkat

With her coloring, she is quite beautiful here.

    • librarygrrl64

I am a pale ginger who doesn’t really like purple very much, but now I know what people mean when they tell me to wear it more often. It really does work with her hair and skin tones. Lovely.

  • Lisa M. (ReVoir) Kramp

Love the whole thing…that’s what a star in casual clothing should look like. That coat color is awesome!

  • RebeccaKW

Love those shoes.  Especially in green.  Damn.

    She looks very cute.

  • MilaXX

coat is okay, but  I  love that jeans/shoe combo

  • schadenfreudelicious

really dont care for the shoes, especially in green..sort of a Tyrolean street walker vibe…

  • Anathema_Device

Love it all, head to toe. I would never wear those shoes, but they work on her.

  • LesYeuxHiboux

Wow, I am surprised at how much I love those shoes in brown. She looks adorable.

  • Those shoes blow.

  • guest2visits

Even though I don’t like coats with a ga-gillion buttons, and the shoes would not be my first choice – I think this works ok for her.

  • myristica_fragrans

love the coat and the shoes. redheads need to be required by law to wear jewel tones at all times.

    • SugarSnap108

As a redhead, I whole-heartedly agree.  I am awash in jewel tones daily.  Oh, and I love her outfit. Adorbs.

  • Toto Maya

Those shoes. Those are THE shoes.

  • Love it! She looks so much better when she’s dressed down.

  • I want those shoes!

  • velomango

I thought the shoes were Fluevog – then I saw that they’re Prada…hmm….

    • librarygrrl64

I wish they WERE Fluevog because then surely they’d be a little more affordable, yes? 😉

  • quiltrx

Kathy definitely won, but I covet this coat as well!

  • Oh my gosh I LOVE this look. I would wear it myself, if I had money to buy a Burberry coat and Prada shoes. While I most definitely don’t.

  • Karen Dickerson

    Okay those shoes are perfection.

  • The coat is great but the jeans and shoes are terrible.

  • kmiller1k

Kathy Griffin should take note of the color purple.

  • Oh god, those shoes are amazing! I love them in green even more than in brown.

  • TieDye64

So digging the shoes, especially the black with the red flowers. Dayum! Also, nice to see a lovely woman who regularly takes unflattering pictures. I can relate since ALL of my pics make me look horrid.

  • Judy_J

Love that coat…..and those shoes! I want those shoes!

  • I am being overly critical here but the jeans are too long which ruins it from the knees down for me. In movement, it probably looks okay.

  • formerlyAnon

If it’s as cold as it looks, those shoes need hose or tights underneath. (ETA: Even if she’s only going to be outside for a minute or two. Just for the look of things.) Otherwise, very cute.

  • Mazenderan

I like the colour of the coat – but it looks unbalanced because of the bare feet with the shoes, imo.  That’s a pet peeve of mine, though.

  • Did she (or somebody) take off the shoulder patch thing (not the epaulet, the further-down thing) on only one side?  It seems to be there on her left and not there on her right. . .

  • alyce1213

That color is gorgeous with her hair.  The shoes, ick.

  • librarygrrl64

OMG, those shoes are soooooooo cute!!!!!

  • Elise_R

I was kind of indifferent about her until I heard (and saw for myself) that she runs her own Facebook page. LOVE her.

  • BigWhiteGrannyPanties

Hate the shoes.  It’s 6 degrees where I am.  Perhaps this is why.

  • bluefish

Such a beautiful young woman.  Her coloring is exquisite.  Not crazy about this outfit, including the shoes, but she’s very beautiful.

  • Those shoes look like something from AHS season 1 flashback and I love them!

  • Zippypie

Love the coat. Hate the shoes.

  • Wow those shoes. I thought for sure they were fluevogs though.
