Jessica Biel in Oscar de la Renta

Posted on January 22, 2013

Okay, before we ask the following question, we’re going to have to implore you: forget the hair. Erase the hair from your view. We’ve all discussed her oversized booms to death and at this point, saying that you don’t like her hair is akin to saying you don’t like being set on fire. Of course you don’t, dear. None of us do.

Now, having said that, are we crazy in thinking she looks kinda great here, in a low-key, Sundance kinda way?

Jessica Biel attends The Next Generation Filmmaker Dinner Series Presents “Emanuel And The Truth About Fishes” in Park City, Utah in an Oscar de la Renta top and J Brand jeans.

Oscar de la Renta Resort 2013 Collection/Model: Vika Falileeva

Obviously, it’s not a tough outfit to wear and she clearly didn’t put much work into putting it together or styling it, but this works for her. Again: in a casual, Sundance kinda way. We’re not so silly as to sing Hosannas to someone for pulling on a sweater over a t-shirt, but the fact that it’s a glitterly little Oscar de la Renta sweater goes a long way toward making the look work. Since her normal red carpet attempts are hit-or-miss, we’re concluding that she’s one of those gals who’d rather live in jeans and a t-shirt. Lucky for her she’s one of those gals who can seriously rock such simple outfits.

Okay, we stayed quiet long enough. HOW THE FUCK CAN YOU SEE, GIRL?

You just know the whole top of her head moves every time she blinks.

Who doesn’t love a glitzy sweater? She looks much more at ease than under all the red carpet frippery.

      • Annabelle Archer

Well look who answered the Fetch whistle!

        • Sobaika

Her career is and always will be fetch. I’m still laughing about Vogue putting her on the cover and practically begging the fashion world to take her seriously.

          • bitchybitchybitchy

Does this mean that Anna Wintour has finally thrown in the towel (or toile) in trying to sell Siena Miller as a fashion icon and is now pushing Jessica instead?

            • Sobaika

Jessica Biel’s Vogue cover was from about 3 years ago, I’d say that dream is dead and buried (thankfully). Say what you will about Sienna Miller, she has better fashion chops than Biel.

    • Martha Deutsch

I’m surprised she looks so good considering she must not be able to see herself in the mirror.

    • Snailstsichr

I like the sweater better with her outfit than with the runway skirt (or really wide pants?). Chic subtly patterned grey pants (tone on tone?)could have made this look more special.
I honestly had no clue who this was in the thumbnail – you could see so little of her face.

    • jilly_d

Want that sweater, hate the shoes.  I actually kind of love it with the skirt in the runway version; she is tall and thin enough to have rocked that look.

      • DeborahJozayt

        That skirt is quite glorious.

    • Natalie Bryan

Cute outfit. Everything from the neck up is giving off a very Joni Mitchell vibe, in my opinion.

      • girliecue

        You nailed it.

    • LLuL

Sorry, I tried very hard to evaluate without taking the hair into account. I can’t do it.  I feel like I’m looking at a terrier that needs grooming. Please, Jessica…I’ll take you to PetSmart and even spring for the trim.

      • Anathema_Device

Great. Now I’m picturing her with those bangs straight up in a pink clip, like a shih tzu.

Actually, it is a pretty funny image, so thanks!

    • Laura Crow

She looks like Nina Garcia here.

    • mjude

i like the look.  the bangs would put me over the edge.

    • Targettaste

Meh, I don’t get the love for a neutral color sparkly sweater over a white shirt with black pants.  Just because it’s Oscar de le Renta doesn’t make it special.  Am I the only one who thinks that sleeve length makes her arms look freakishly long?

      • Kayceed

Agreed. I note the model wearing the bracelet-sleeved sweater is wearing - bracelets.

    • julnyes

The sweater is cute, but I’m unmoved by the outfit as a whole.

      • http://robot-heart.tumblr.com heartbot

I think it’s pretty sad when your usual red carpet appearances are so misguided, putting a beige sweater with dark jeans is considered some sort of breakthrough moment. I do this every single day without the budget for a stylist or designers throwing gorgeous free clothes at me. This, in fact, describes the outfit I am wearing right now. I am not impressed.

    • http://twitter.com/SparklyCasanova UglyCasanova

I’ve seen Whiteboards with more flare and far more comment-worthy.

    • sablehunter

The sweater is pretty, but not with black pants.

    • Annabelle Archer

      Oatmeal. In every way possible.

      • call_me_schmeg

        but *glittery* oatmeal. still…

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1401197785 Jennifer Peters-Ahnberg

      Very cute!

ETA: *whispers “cut your bangs.” very softly.*

    • Robyn Garrett

I like the sweater, but everything from the waist down is so boring. The hair is hard to look past but what I really can’t understand is what’s going on with her FACE. She went from super sexy to stretched out and distorted. It’s so aging and it makes me wonder how she can even be onscreen…

    • Don Hackett

i just can’t with the white undershirt sticking out under the glitzy sweater.  her nose and mouth are so beautiful, i wonder what her eyes look like.

TLo: “Saying that you don’t like her hair is akin to saying you don’t like being set on fire. Of course you don’t dear. None of us do.”
If your book is even a scintilla as awesome as that line, you’ve got a bestseller on your hands.

I feel the same way about that sweater. Of course it’s a fabulous sweater & she looks great in it. It would take a lot to f that up. Unless you’re LiLo. Or a Kardashian.

    • Jecca2244

I didn’t realize Sundance was *this* casual. I have a sweater like that from the Loft.

    • Joyce VG

      I give it a year.

    • Pants_are_a_must

Of course she’d find a sweater in BEIGE. Even a sparkly one.

The hair is just BEYOND no. And if it’s fake, GURL.

    • SouthernGirlRena

I like it.  I love the runway look top to bottom and plan on wearing it to one of my imaginary soirees in the near future.  She looks cute and stylish and comfortable and like she is not taking herself or the event too seriously. While I am being all positive and affirming, am I allowed to say I love the color of her hair and it looks really healthy?

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=713709401 Randy Noak

She looks like a slightly depressed, lesbian office administrator who decided to put a little glitter in her sweater to try and elevate her mood…but it’s clearly not working.

    • http://twitter.com/emilyf007 emily

I just can’t. It’s hard to assess the outfit when I am so distracted by her hair, but I want to say it’s great.

    • http://twitter.com/MajorBedhead MajorBedhead

Any outfit that *I* could pull off, and do, regularly (minus the sparkles, because I do not do the mutton dressed as lamb thing) seems hardly worth discussing.

I just want to have at her bangs with some scissors. God, they are annoying.

    • Carly Warnock

I can’t not love this because this is my daily uniform practically. I always wear black pants or dark jeans, black leather riding boots and a sweater with a little sparkle or stripe from October-March. Yay for Canada’s cold weather. Also, booms or not, her hair doesn’t look so bad here.

    • Trisha26

It’s actually so refreshing to see someone with beautiful, shiny, freshly washed hair – in a decent dye job – that I don’t mind the booms at all. Cute outfit.

    • http://phantomminuet.blogspot.com/ MinAgain

I’ve tried.  Really, I have, but I just can’t ignore the hair.  OTOH, without the hair, I wouldn’t have much to say, because this outfit bores me stupid.

      • Lisa M. (ReVoir) Kramp

         She bores me stupid.

    • E. D.

Maybe she’s trying to grow out her brows?  I’ve got nothing else to explain this.

    • Funkykatt

My bangs get like that all the time as I have a high forehead and like to hide it. I use glasses to see.

    • http://twitter.com/foodycatAlicia foodycatAlicia

Actually, I really am going to have to comment on her hair. I think she’s had the ends trimmed and it looks much healthier now.

    • CeeQ

You know this is a great little outfit and if I had her hips, I’d rock it every day all day.
Good grief, those bangs are a menace.

    • MissAmynae

      Cute. Entirely Sundance appropriate.

    • guest2visits

The boots, the jeans, the sweater.. it all works, even the blinky bangs this time because it’s a very simple, casual ensemble.

    • MilaXX

just a half an inch off those bangs and this would be a perfect casual look. Like Britney she looks more at ease here than we have seen in a long time.

    • EEKstl

**Conscientiously avoiding hair commentary.**  She looks good but in truth that sweater is very much like one I bought on sale at talbots.com (and which is very nice).  Just sayin’.

    • Anathema_Device

I like the outfit well enough. I guess she fucks it up so often, that actually finding her look effortless is a big deal. I cannot remain silent on the awful bangs. They are awful. Too long and lopsided.

    • nannypoo

I thought she was growing them out. Remember those pictures with the stupid looking pony tail on top of her head? What was the point of that if not to grow these awful bangs out?

    • Anniebet

Well, I like the pants the model is wearing in the second picture. As for Jessicant, all I can say is “arf, arf”.

    • formerlyAnon

It is only the excellent makeup, expensive looking hair coloring and the visibly (no need to give the source) astronomical cost of sweater and boots that elevates this above running to the grocery store and dry cleaners on the way to pick up the boys from Saturday morning soccer.

That said, somebody put all that together. And I covet the boots I am imagining from that small glimpse.

    • http://asskickingadviser.com/ Ass Kicking Adviser

Oh please you guys! If you can say something then we can!
      I choose to say this:
‘I wore this yesterday. Maybe not O de la R but close enough. I looked good and my hair looked WAY better. And I am a mere mortal.
OUT. Oh wait…are we not voting on this? Sorry. Gut reaction brought on by bad bangs. It’s a medical condition. Look it up.

    • Le_Sigh

“HOW THE FUCK CAN YOU SEE GIRL?”

Indeed.  Aesthetics aside, would those boom tips get all eye-pokey?  Twould drive me BONKERS it would.

    • barbarienne

Eh, I’ve had the long bangs in the eyes…back in the 70s. But anyway, you can see through them. You just get used to it. I would rather them a little too long than a little too short, and at least when they’re long, you don’t feel them tickling your forehead.

    • butter nut

i know you said not to say anything, but i swear to god, she looks like Captain Caveman from the neck up.

    • ccm800

      sweater and black pants. woweeeee

    • Jacqueline Wessel

Oddly enough when she wears this outfit the hair looks good (to me of course) albeit the bangs are too long. But put this hair with a beautiful gown and it looks sad. So I’m not going to complain about the hair until she shows up on the red carpet with it.

    • Lilak

I’ll have what the model’s having, thank you.

    • bitchybitchybitchy

I like the glittery sweater with the jeans;it is the right look for Sundance.
OK-I canNOT overlook the hair. Jessica, we have seen your forehead-we know that you don’t have a tattoo of the sign of the Beast on it, so please, please, enough with the bangs.

    • BrooklynBomber

You’re not crazy. She looks great.

    • Louise Bryan

She looks like she has the same problem I do where the sleeves are ALWAYS too short!!!

    • http://twitter.com/#!/Space_Kitty Space Kitty

I can’t stop laughing at the image of the top of her head moving every time she blinks.  And how can she not know those awful booms draw focus directly to the (otherwise probably imperceptible) bags under her eyes?

      WHY?!

    • Nancy Dunn

My grandmother used to call clothes that were too small “pinchetti” or at least it sounded like that. It was Italian. Her sweater look pinchetti. Like it shrank in the dryer.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_NFN2OXT4ZJJD4MEUTLUDLMNRIQ yahoo-NFN2OXT4ZJJD4MEUTLUDLMNRIQ

Whenever I see her in a thumbnail, my visceral reaction is, “What is THAT?”  It’s not just the bangs, which obscure her eyes, it’s the nude lipstick, which erases her mouth.  Resulting in her looking like a head with nothing but a nose.  Creepy.

    • http://www.facebook.com/jody.corbett Jody Corbett

      Clearance rack at Kohl’s. Nope.

    • http://twitter.com/amndad amanda lynn

ha!  so true!  “You just know the whole top of her head moves every time she blinks.”

    • RzYoung

If I were married to Justin Timberlake I’d want my hair covering my eyes the whole time too…I’d also want it stuffed into my ears

      • http://www.katymcdermott.com KatyMightHave

        Sing it, sister!

    • Mightiadd

She might have been hoping for “effortless”, but ended up with “didn’t even try”.

    • http://twitter.com/jalae Janey

She’s the type of girl with the type of body that looks amazing in t-shirt and jeans and really simple but sleek dresses. That’s why I don’t understand all this gown frippery she insists on wearing.

Her hair also looks amazing because its been washed, cut, blowdried and instead of looking stringy, looks healthy. Can’t sign off on bangs as big as those because her eyes are beautiful but meh, she looks great elsewhere

    • TRSTL

As an aside, the runway model, just how large is her penis that she is sporting such a basket?  LOL!

    • http://twitter.com/AShinyOConnor A Shiny O’Connor

According to the mature lady that watches my kid in daycare, long fringes make you go blind (it’s tough to cut a child’s curly blond hair). So Jessica is a danger to herself by the knitting needle circle’s standards.

    • http://twitter.com/AShinyOConnor A Shiny O’Connor

J’agree on the look. Jazzed up basics are perfect for apres-ski.

    • SapphoPoet

Those bangs would drive me nuts.

Love the sweater; she looks pretty and comfortable.

    • Little_Olive

The sweater is great but she downplayed it too much. The pants should have been more interesting and she should have worn a collared blouse or nothing at all underneath the sweater.

    • Noelle Haland

      SUPER CUTE!

    • Alyssa Stanfield

Great sweater!!! I think she does casual so much better than red carpet. Also, seriously girl, those are not your bangs!

    • http://twitter.com/PhDKnitter marlie

It’s a cute little look. Very “accessible” to us mere mortals.

    • Kristy Evans

Ugh, her bangs are making MY eyes twitch uncontrollably. I do like the outfit. The sweater is beautiful, but I don’t know how I feel about the t-shirt peeking out. Makes it look sloppy.

    • melanie0866

Yes.  She looks totally cute.  I would wear that outfit if my butt weren’t so big.

    • kolokOlchik

She’s channeling Christy Turlington here! :)  I like the hair shade a lot, actually.  The bangs are a bit long, yes.  The outfit is great and she does look better in this than in most of the gowns she wears
