Jennifer Lawrence in Valentino Couture

Posted on January 15, 2013

We were going to classify this as a “Girl, That’s Not Your Dress” moment, but we reconsidered at the last minute.

Jennifer Lawrence attends the 38th Annual Los Angeles Film Critics Association Awards in a Valentino couture dress paired with Roger Vivier sandals and clutch.

Valentino Couture Fall 2012 Collection/Model: Mirte Maas (WOMEN)

Because even though we don’t think J Law looks best when she attempts more PhD-level, capital-F Fashion like this, and even though she clearly doesn’t quite know what to do with that wonky hem (pro tip: not a dress for the shoulder-width stance, dear), we think this dress is way too pretty to dismiss from her wardrobe. In other words, the look’s got issues, but we can’t, in all honesty, say she looks bad. The fabric is stunningly beautiful. It even seems to work fairly well with her coloring, all things considered. We normally shoo the pale blondes away from yellows, but this time, it works. We even like her “Heidi of the Swiss Alps” hair.

We don’t know… can’t put our finger on why, but this looks better to us the longer we stare at it. She just needs to learn how to pose while wearing it. And to switch out the shoes for something else. A silver metallic makes sense; it picks up the silver in the dress. But we don’t think these shoes quite work with it.

We fully expect the Bitter Kittens to not follow us on this one.

I actually quite like it. The Heidi hair is SO distracting though.

    • eclare

Agreed.  The hair ruins the whole look.  With a chic and simple ‘do, this would look pretty great.

    • http://twitter.com/emilyf007 emily

I like it as well and agree 1000% on the hair. I’d like to add that her ladies could use a bit more support, or something, I can’t quite put my finger on it. And the shoes are a bit off. But the dress is gorgeous, even with her shoulder width stance.

    • kmk05

Definitely! Don’t really like the hair, but it isn’t offensive. The dress is gorgeous: in the last pic she looks quite statuesque!

    • Hell Yes, I Would!

Agreed. She also looks so sick. Can’t these people take off when they have the flu? She looked miserable at the GG’s – she  doesn’t look much healthier here.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=639062430 Sara Padilla

I disagree aboout the hair.  The messy braids are youthful.  A more formal hairdo could have taken that brocadey fabric to a inappropriately matronly place.

      • http://twitter.com/SillyGrrlJen Silly Grrl

I think the hair just doesn’t go with this outfit. I don’t think it has to be more formal, just more simple.

      • Louise Bryan

I like braids, but this one looks a bit – doing it yourself while standing in front of your dorm room mirror – to me.  I think a little less messy, while keeping it simple.

  • Jecca2244

maybe daintier heels and lighter makeup? I think she seems best suited to the non makeup makeup she wore in the hunger games… and i like this dress. like it on her, like it right into my closet.

  • Liz Ohlhorst

I hope she never learns how to “pose”. That is one of the things that makes her so appealing.

    • lovelyivy

Agreed. I’d rather she not go all KStew on us- fashion forward by demand and bitter about it.

    • kschwarting

There is a slight gawkyness to her that is very endearing, although it does make her look awkward on the RC all too often.

    • Wellworn

Yes, we need fewer Lea Michele poseurs in the world, not more.

  • http://twitter.com/PhDKnitter marlie

The dress is beautiful, but there’s something a tad off about it on her, but I can’t quite put my finger on it.

  • In_Stitches

Well I definitely agree, even on the hair.   The yellow highlights the tawny tones in her skin in a beautiful way.

  • clatie

Liesl, the hem on your curtain dress got stuck in the chain of your bicycle.

    • jtabz

      HehehehhehehHUAHAHAHA!

      (hiccup)

    • clatie

PS  The baroness is going to be PISSED when she sees you borrowed her shoes.

    • Pants_are_a_must

16-going-on-17 my ass. 4-going-on-21 more like it.

    • blogless

The bottom part looks so much like the dress I made in my homecoming class in junior high.

  • Super_Red

I know I’m always in the minority on this one, but I adore all braids on the red carpet, and think her hair is fantastic. I, too, am having difficulty with the dress. It’s not a *bad* dress, per se.. I think my biggest issue with the dress is the lighting for the pictures. The closeups look great, and if you squint you can make out the detail in the larger-view pictures, but I think if the lighting was softer, I think she would look amazing without any reservations.

  • http://twitter.com/holocausticity E. Sevilla

i think she looks fabulous too. i think the color’s so… i dunno, sunny? i think it’s very pretty. it makes her skin glow! haha. that hair tho…

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/2LIE6ISFQUBIAO7OB6U5TAVXXQ Depot'er

LOVE the outfit, but not on her….maybe someone with more coloring? The more I look at that material, the more I see in it…its quite fascinating…but not on her..

  • http://phantomminuet.blogspot.com/ MinAgain

It’s a beautiful dress, but there’s something wonking on the hem of hers, compared with the runway version.  And I’m not nearly as sure about the color as TLo seem to be.

  • http://twitter.com/foodycatAlicia foodycatAlicia

She can send the shoes to me.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Patrick-Cleary/1201575213 Patrick Cleary

The hair is ruining anything else for me. She looks like she got attacked in a rope factory.

  • HobbitGirl

I hate the hem. It kind of looks like it got stuck in her pantyhose after a trip to the bathroom.

    • http://twitter.com/UberChicADee Diana Giese

       AGREED!

    • jtabz

I agree. I don’t think there’s a good way to wear that hem. Maybe Diane Kruger could pull it off. Maybe?

Other than the hem, I think she looks quite lovely. Agree with TLo, the fabric is absolutely gorgeous. I want a blazer made out of it! Get the Valentino people on the phone!

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1208138556 Sara Munoz Munoz

It’s not that it’s not her dress. It’s just an ugly dress.

    • EveEve

phew! and I thought it was just me thinking this!  That fabric may be gorgeous, but that’s it.  Way to waste a stunning fabric, Valentino! And the sloppy hair and braid are not working with it at all.

      • j_anson

I honestly can’t see what makes that fabric gorgeous. It looks like lemon-yellow upholstery from a couch at a tacky nightclub to me. (And I LOVED the Lucy Liu dress yesterday! I don’t throw out the “upholstery” label at the drop of a hat!)

        • butterflysunita

I’m not getting the love for the dress or the fabric.  I keep thinking it looks like a fried egg.

        • Sweetpea176

I was actually thinking that maybe she should trade dresses with Lucy Liu!

  • Sobaika

It’s making my eye twitch, I keep wanting to yank her dress down from the left. I’d go for different shoes and some coaching on how to pose.

  • http://twitter.com/UberChicADee Diana Giese

It’s the fold of the hem. What IS THAT?! That’s what’s screwing everything up. The fabric speaks for itself. That extra detail on the dress wasn’t necessary.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=570976850 Jen Greenberg Roberts

I agree with you — it’s like she doesn’t know how to stand in it to show it off. I like

  • jw_ny

I hate her hair, and think it’s the biggest offense to the overall look, but also it just feels like nothing else she’s wearing goes with anything else…just all seems so unrelated.

  • http://www.twitter.com/allforusophia AllForUSophia

Is the hem longer than on the model? I think that’s my issue with it. The length. Otherwise it’s a perfectly nice dress. Don’t like the hair at all I must say though.

  • flower753

The dress is stunning but I don’t think the color does anything for her. Maybe if the silver in the dress was closer to the silver in her shoes it would work better for me.

  • kelsita421

that hem is the worst. that’s the main problem, to me. it’s like static cling/she tucked it in her undies.

  • Beardslee

The fabric is just lovely but that wonky hem is distracting.

  • tallgirl1204

I like it all except for the hem.  A simple hem would have elevated the dress to classic.  Her hair doesn’t bug me– she has kind of a messy-hippie persona a little bit.

  • Scimommy

A beautiful dress that could work like gangbusters on her, ruined by horrific styling. I don’t know how to make it right, but *this* is not right. The strands of hair hanging around her face and the shoes especially don’t go.

  • MilaXX

Not quite sure why her stylist or team keep putting her in dresses with pick ups. Most times they don’t work, but I like this one on her. She looks best in first shot where she’s leaning back on one hip. I like the shoes, but I can’t cosign on that Heidi hair. Still, this is more in than out for me

  • thecitysleeps

I quite like it.  Even the hair.  I’d have done a bit less with the wake up and while I like the t strapped shoes,  a lighter metallic would have worked a lot better.  And that dress’s textile is gorgeous but I think a straight cut mini dress would have worked better.

  • famousamy

She always feels like she’ still doing her own hair and makeup. It’s just so .. off.

  • filmcricket

I’m not wild about it – I don’t really care for the dress – but the only thing I’m really seeing wrong is the hair. She really needs a new hair-wrangler on her payroll.

  • schadenfreudelicious

Fraulein, that is not your hair….

  • Kenisha Hill Phillips

I like it, and I like that she went for more of a pewter as opposed to silverware.

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/XPWSQ2BDU5XJIA23AMYVBRWZBA Eric

Not bad, but her stance messed up the draping and it looks as if it just got snagged in something.

  • http://twitter.com/bkiersten BridgetK

I like it a lot.  If ever thighs deserved to peekaboo, it is with this girl.  I’d kill for those legs.  Plus I think the Heidi hair is fun and quirky.  Then again, this is just because I like her.  If Ann Hathaway wore the same dress I’d declare it (and her) horrible.

  • http://twitter.com/RozSeven Roz

I think two things throw this off–1. That inner hem needs to be higher, as it is on the model. Jennifer’s more demure length makes it look sloppily/accidentally hiked up. 2. The hair! Too busy and distracts from the dress.

  • mhleta

I’m mostly with you on this. It is a beautiful dress, without question. The color isn’t ideal for her and maybe a tad sophisticated for where she’s at in her life right now. She’s got the legs to pull off a hem like this, but again, I agree with TLo, there’s definitely a right way and a wrong way to pose in an asymmetrical hem.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000905542323 Rhonda Shore

Like it all except the hemline…but hey.  Love a good brocade.

  • IAmJ

The stance is awkward but for some reason I really like this look.

  • http://profiles.google.com/adj.blair Adriana Blair

The dress is fine but that hair is awful.

  • http://www.facebook.com/RocketStarling Ashley Ellen Wilson

I think the dress is beautiful!

  • EveEve

I thought it was a brocade at first, but on closer look, it seems to be an embellished print- with maybe a little trapunto/overstitiching to give it some depth.

  • SewingSiren

I love the hair, because that’s just the way I am.
The fabric and the cut of the dress are beautiful, except the lifted part, which to me looks like an accident. I don’t care for the shoes. And she’s not the kind that spends hours posing in the mirror. You can tell that, but at least she can act.

  • 3boysful

I hate this.  Cannot get past the color, which I think does zero for her.  Do love the shoes, however.

  • kalisa

I love the fabric & the color, but now I have to amend my all-flowered-fabric-does-not-look-like-drapes rule, because that hemline TOTALLY looks like drapes.

  • Judy_S

I like the color on her, though I’m not so sure about the messy braids with this particular dress. I think the problem is that the skirt needs to be those couple of inches shorter for the valance effect to work properly. Her stance doesn’t help, but I think it has to do with “couture that is not couture” i.e. high-fashion clothing that is NOT tailored to the wearer at all, but requires a wearer who fits into it.

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/C5DHGDPX5J7BENE4HI6TBQUZHM Kathryn

Okay, I know we’re talking dress and stuff; but, can I just say that I found her even more charming after her witty and raw Golden Globes speech?  Anyway, right now she can do no wrong in my eyes.

  • Annabelle Archer

    Death to Heidi hair!!

I really hate dresses designed to look as if you’re having a static cling moment.

I love Jennifer and I just really really wish some fabulous fashion savvy person would take her stunning self under their wing.

  • formerlyAnon

I feel SO vindicated. Dubious at first glance, looked back and forth between her and the model, and thought “How come the hem looks so crisp and rich on the model, and so sloppy and limp on her?” and “Given the body of that fabric, surely she could have learned to manage the skirt so her hem kept its shape and impact, couldn’t she?”  And my fashion commentator favorites agree!

I think it’s a nice dress, a beautiful fabric, but not sure she’s pulling off the yellow. Or maybe she is, barely, but the distracting Heidi hair and wonky hem add up to her needing an easier color that does more for her. I’d like a closed toe shoe, something a young-ish Lee Radziwell might have worn with this – something to up the designer elegance feel.

Overall, I think the shape of the hair works, but the braiding comes off as too busy with the neckline, for me. A smooth roll, maybe? But I’m pro-dress, mildly anti-braids and suspend judgement on color.  So, a net plus.

  • shelley514

Love the dress.  Everything else needs to be thrown out.

  • http://profiles.google.com/anplica Anplica Fiore

Love the detailing in the fabric, but  otherwise hate this look, from head to toe.  What IS that hairstyle?  Heidi-braids, then put in a wind tunnel??

    • kimmeister

I think it’s Heidi braids, and then you go do yoga for an hour.

  • f_yeah_marie

I love the dress, but not on her, unfortunately.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=2066192 Melissa Mellon

That color’s just…argh. Maybe the lipstick color doesn’t help?

    • kimmeister

      Agree about the lipstick.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=811053804 Stacy Parker Cole

    Totally 80s wallpaper.  Just sayin.

  • nannypoo

Zoe Saldana could wear this better. I hate the hair. I hate it on Elle Fanning, I hate it on Heidi, I hate it on every Bavarian goatherd, and I hate it on Jennifer Lawrence.

  • Janet B

This is probably prettier under softer lights

  • http://profiles.google.com/h.e.waddell Heather Waddell

Needs a lighter silver for the shoe, slightly less washed-out makeup, and MAYBE a belt. But the biggest problem is that she doesn’t look comfortable. THAT’S what’s ruining this look, she needs to look more comfortable in it. (Not “yoga pants and no bra” comfortable, but she doesn’t look happy or confident, and her awkwardness is translating itself to the dress.)

  • Kayceed

Valentino has a thing for the wonky hem this season – that sequined batwing number had the same curtain-rising effect.

  • AlexisPayne

I really love the dress, the brocade is gorgeous. She’s young and the Heidi hair works (I’m sporting the same ‘do today). The shoes seem to be the only miss but I wonder what would work, maybe a simple pointy toe pump in the same color?

  • suzq

I agree with you on all counts.  The stylist should show the starlet photos from the runway.  “Here’s how it looks best standing, walking etc…. Avoid leaning to one side, keep your feet together, etc…”  Don’t ever presume gals know how to do this stuff.  There’s no studio system anymore to teach them.

  • Tatiana Luján

I don’t like the hem of the dress, but it would look better with better ironing or maybe it needs a safety pin to look like the hem of the dress in the runway.

  • EEKstl

I think it’s attitude more than anything else.  If she were selling it it would be a definite IN.  I do like the shoes but pet peeve aside of them being a size too large, I agree a lighter silver vs. that darker pewter would have been preferable.

  • Anathema_Device

Haaaaaate the hair. With a burning passion. The straggly bits hanging down are killing me.

I kind of like the dress, but she needs her hair pulled back and some sparkly (not too big) earrings to polish up this look. The hair all around her face and the high neck just make her look to closed up…like she is peeking out through a hole.

  • ccm800

I’m with you fellows on this one exactly. the flipped hem is kinda dumb in its own right but the color and textile are pretty lovely and lovely on her. Not mad at the shoe and I think the hair connects with her laid back casual personality.

  • d4divine

The child would look good in a burlap sack.

  • ThatPeterG

Send that dress to Viola Davis…

  • greyhoundgirl

Don’t think this is a good outfit in which to go and milk the goats.

  • neofashionista

what about GIRL DONT DO THAT TO YOUR HAIR
and why didnt someone tell her her dress is fucked up in the hemline

  • Laylalola

Awful awful awful hem — this is Valentino Couture?

  • MintaHallWriter

Actually, I think the only fault I see is that her makeup is too harsh, particularly in the eyes. Doesn’t work well with the hair and the kinda-funky dress. Not as put off by the shoes as TLo is, but there might have been something better. Not sure what, though. I do really like the dress. JLaw is herself kind of funky and down-home, and I think this dress fits her personality.

  • http://robot-heart.tumblr.com heartbot

I sort of love that she always looks sort of awkward on the red carpet. I think she looks pretty here.

  • kayleymaybe

It’s interesting, because J-Law is like K-Stew in that she seems very uncomfortable on red carpets, but J-Law smiles and tries to make it work, while K-Stew just looks mad and increasingly rebellious.  Anyone else notice this?

  • Jangle57

no sorry, looked at it, hated it, came back and looked again, still hated it.  hair is a mess, hem is stupid and the material looks like she took a page from Scarlett O’Hara

  • Melissa Brogan

I can’t put my finger on why, but her makeup is so distracting I can’t even think about the dress.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1129137319 Paula Pertile

That hem is making me insane.
Too bad, because its pretty fabric.

  • PeggyOC

I think the dress is hideous, but it’s growing on you because that golden color looks so good with her skin tone and hair.  She needs this color and weight of fabric in a dress that is not so overwrought.

  • Le_Sigh

I like it – but that fashion linebacker stance just does not work.

  • stubbornthoughts

I…pretty much love everything about this, actually. If the hemline from the peekaboo layer was the same all around, I’d be shouting its WERQability. The makeup is a tad much and I usually hate Heidi hair, but I LOVE it here on her. Probably because I imagine she was yodeling in the limo all the way there.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_U5LTVYHX32MGMMXR33G7TOXVR4 Magdalena Monzerrat Ontiveros

    I hate this hairdo!!!

  • http://twitter.com/LouisaEdwards Louisa Edwards

Maybe a lighter metallic shoe instead of the pewter? Maybe not a sandal? I’m kind of a sucker for Heidi hair, but I do think a sleeker do would’ve worked better.

  • l_c_ann

    Her lip color is wrong.

But we just rewatched her in Winter’s Bone so she’s got a pass for the next several months.  Damn, she’s earned a couple of dress up passes.

  • decormaven

I think everything is working, it’s just she needs some pointers on how to pose to best set off the look. I know she’s an actress, but she’s an actress whose style team is scoring some major designer duds. Help the girl out, team!

  • Carla_Charlton

It looks good when you see the whole thing — it looked at little too heavy when I only saw her from the bust up.  And I don’t hate the shoes at all — at least they’re not platform horse hooves.

  • traceyishere

Shoes don’t fit! Hair is WW2.
    @Super_Red:disqus

  • Kristy Evans

I love the dress. I even like the shoes. But I can NOT get behind that hair.

  • VioletFem

The dress is very pretty, but I’m not quite convince that it works all that well on her. The detailing from the hair to the shoes is where this outfit falters.  A pulled back chic chignon would have upgraded this look by several points.

  • Imasewsure

I do think a shoe swap (to what I don’t know) would have helped a lot… hair is awful but I do really like this interesting dress even with the weird hem

  • http://twitter.com/kpossibles Kim

what is up with her smile?! It looks like someone tried to photoshop it in!!!

  • yulaffin

I like it except for the hem.  Her hair is a little too messy for my taste but I think it goes with the dress.

  • http://twitter.com/jen_canary Jennifer Ford

“Ladies and Gentlemen, the former Prime Minister of Ukraine.”

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/DNWEFT2SVBX5T3NPMROQCT4U2U jennyv

Totally agree with you boys. The dress is fab and she and her slammin’ bod are rocking it. For me it’s the messiness of the hair and blah shoes that don’t work.

  • E. D.

Hate it all, including the dress and especially the makeup.

  • Lisa M. (ReVoir) Kramp

I like the shoes even though they do nothing for the look. I like the hair, but not with this dress. It needs a sleeker look, like the one on the model!

  • peachy

you suspected correctly, TLo. hate it. shoo, shoo! away from that yellow, girl! and unless you are auditioning for Maria in Sound of Music, get those Heidi locks undone. stat.

  • http://twitter.com/danielleRwest Danielle West

I only disagree about the hair.  That hair is unnecessary.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=720742723 Sarah Winningham

She is very pretty but her makeup and especially her hair are NEVER right.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_VW5XHSH45FBZ2ZEZJARYHILIZQ Leah

Her eye make-up is doing her NO favours. Girl needs a consult.

  • http://www.facebook.com/jacoryd JaCory Deon

The styling is wrong (what is that hair and makeup) and, dare I say it, she has the wrong body type to rock this dress.  Granted, she has a nice, womanly body BUT it’s done no favors by that print and shape.  Why does she never look as good as she can?

  • msdamselfly

Agree with what you said about the hemline- something needs to adjust, either her stance or the hemline itself

  • ConnieBV

    PAGING LEA MICHELE!

  • Qitkat

It IS a very beautiful print, and I like her hair too. BUT dislike the hem strongly.

  • a_liking

the only view I like this from is the back. that’s telling, isn’t it? but really, nothing here is working for me, from hair to face to dress to shoes. so.

  • kikisayshi

Girl That’s Not Your Hairstyle! I’m going the opposite way – I liked the dress at first but the more I look at it, it looks like upholstery.

  • cleep1000

No one could save that hemline. But she looks pretty good.

  • http://twitter.com/ndpndntfilm Susan Velazquez

She looks uncomfortable. Or is she sick with the flu too?

  • DominoEstella

I like it and envy her wardrobe and her bod.  She also seems very grounded which makes me like almost everything she does.

  • http://twitter.com/#!/Space_Kitty Space Kitty

I think this look calls for sleeker hair, like the model.  Other than that, the fabric is beautiful and the color is working remarkably well. (And I kinda feel like somebody’s grandma here, but yeah – a more graceful pose is indicated)

  • mike__tv

I’m getting used to her super goofy smile and awkward standing. It’s strange, in interviews she has all this confidence and sex appeal and like she knows where it’s AT. But in pictures lol, she’s awkward which I kind of like.

  • AuntieAnonny

Is there a term for when your dress gets stuck in your underwear? Dress wedgie?

    Dress wedgie.

  • Terrible_Person

Sorry TLo, I can’t agree with you on this one. The only thing working here is the expression on her face. She looks happy!

  • http://twitter.com/mcterzakis Marianna

I love everything about this look except for the hem. But even that’s not enough to distract me from how lovely she looks with her hair that shade. Also, the fabric just looks gorgeous on her.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Sarah-Adams/1143985903 Sarah Adams

The hair is cute and just right for her face, but not with that dress.

What’s really getting me is the static cling detail in the skirt. On the model it looks like the skirt’s been pinned up to show a contrasting reverse side to the fabric, except there is no contrast to see so it looks like an amateur mistake. On Miss Lawrence it looks like the skirt has bad static issues. This is the designer’s fault, not the wearers.

  • ZnSD

what’s up with the Catniss hair?

  • chitowndg

I bet it looked really good in person (except for the too large shoes).  T-Lo is spot on that the posing hurt the look.

  • Adrienne Melton

You should rename this post as Girl, That’s Not Your Hairstyle.  Okay, for Katniss, maybe.

  • Zippypie

In a shade of blue or green, this would be stunning.  This color makes her skintone sallow.  And she does look beautiful (I mean, she should – she won!) so the reflection from the fabric is unfortunate.

The shoes are definitely the wrong metallic for the dress.  And too friggin’ big.

  • snarkykitten

I will defend JLaw til the day I die, soooo: I think that horrible “hem” looks like shit regardless who wears it. If it was just a simple diagonal cut, I would love it on her

  • http://twitter.com/amndad amanda lynn

i like it!  and i love the pumps.

  • librarygrrl64

No, I agree. I really like it! She definitely has the height and the gams to pull this off. Not sold on the hair, but I still adore her.

  • http://twitter.com/Eovaai Eovaai

Aside from the heels, I quite like this. It shouldn’t work, but it does. Even the hair.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=717955989 Barbara Affolter

I wore my hair like that to my sister’s wedding when I was 21 & I thought it was the BEST. HAIR. EVAR.  Now, I can’t look at her wedding photos without being embarrassed.  That may be because I’m 5’10” and of Swiss ancestry, so it was so literally “Heidi of the Alps.”

She looks ungainly and it’s not just the pose. She needs an updo or beautiful blowout, heeled silver pumps with hose. There.

Agree with TLo! I’m digging the dress and the hair, but not with those shoes. Maybe a lower heel, or no heel at all? Or maybe keep the heel, but close the toe and lose the T-strap?

I have an irrational love for JLaw, but that’s not her dress.  Still think she looks cute, though.

That hem up didn’t work the last time, and I don’t think it worked here either. It might have if it was done as precisely as on the model – where it looks like the hemming reveals a skirt, as opposed to how it looks on Jen, like it got stuck in her underwear or something. The pattern of the dress though, is great.

Love this dress on her. The fabric and the cut suit her figure perfectly.

I love that, although she’s smiling, she manages to give a hint that she’s uncomfortable and tired of all these awards ceremonies, like the normal crowds feel.

Only not following you with the Heidi hair. The dress is lovely and the shoes aren’t great with it.

I will NEVER like these dresses that look like you had a malfunction in the bathroom.  If it had a normal hem, I would say it’s pretty nice on her.

    Hate the hair.

She has very broad shoulders and a long neck — I think the problem is the high collar.  If it was scoop necked it would break up the solid line of her shoulder and make her look a little more balanced.

My great aunt used to wear her hair like this every day.  My.  Great.  Aunt.

I dunno.  To me case of a beautiful fabric put to bad use.  I wonder if she going for a Chinese reference with the hair — reflecting the gorgeous brocade.  She looks silly — Love the shoes.

“She doesn’t look bad” – but she doesn’t look good either!

I made a little squeal at those shoes, but you’re right–they’re not the correct choice for the dress. Maybe something in a peacock blue satin instead?

Everything she’s wearing is, in fact, wearing her.  It’s just not styled right.
