Helen Mirren in Escada

Posted on January 04, 2013

Let’s all have a little slice of Helen right now.

Helen Mirren is honored with a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Helen wore an Escada dress and coat paired with a Lana Marks bag, Neil Lane jewelry, and Stuart Weitzman shoes.

Escada Resort 2013 Collection

Fabulous.

We have quibbles with the shoes – not the color so much, because “silly putty” actually works a little better when you’re wearing hose – but with the shape of them, which looks clunky and awkward. Still, that’s the only wrong note. That periwinkle color looks fantastic on her and we like that she kept the coat and dress fairly simple, while still providing opportunities to show off her slammin’ bod. Add a perfect chartreuse counterpoint with that clutch and you have pretty much the perfect outfit for Helen Mirren to be photographed in. Nicely done, Hels.

Love her!! She looks amazing and I totally agree about the shoes.

  • Ms. Schmidt

that coat looks somewhat shapeless when she is standing and therefore dowds her down a bit, IMO.  The color is fab, though, and I love the dress (and the peekaboo of her black unmentionables).

    • TRSTL

I was cautious to make this comment myself but since it is out there now….. I LOVE the color, she looks so amazing but I thought the coat seemed perhaps a tad large, especially in the sleeves and shoulders?

      • TRSTL

But man!  That SMILE just does it every time, doesn’t it?

      • kschwarting

I thought the same thing.  The cut and color are fabulous, but the fit seems a little off.  She is fabulous, though.  How can she just now be getting a star?

  • RzYoung

Perfection! Radio 4 have been doing a segment each morning this week about what you’d do with an extra 30 minutes each day, they interviewed Helen and she said that she already sets the alarm 30 minutes early in the morning so she and her hubby can have sexytime. She’s the BEST

    • Sobaika

I guess that explains her glow.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_2CNDPMVO4W23R5TVC2QMTJ5BZE Heather

I like her even MORE now (didn’t think that was possible).

    • Introspective

Im taking a page outta the QFFs book because I assume her making it to her age looking this fab prob has something to do with this ritual…

  • http://www.katidom.com/ Kati B

    My God, she’s fabulous.

  • SugarSnap108

She put what appears to be a salamander on her boob, and looks f’in fantastic.  She is a goddess.

    • http://viridianpostcard.blogspot.com/ viridian61

Oh but I do like that pin!

    • formerlyAnon

Maybe a gecko? I have what is almost certainly a waaaay downmarket version of that pin of which I’m quite fond – I am quite chuffed to see its cousin on Ms. Mirren.

  • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

Luv Huh.  Fab coat and dress. The lady sure knows how to bring it!

  • http://twitter.com/luqluqe LuqeMann

Anyway, she doesn’t look like she’s wearing hose. If she did wear one, what’s the point of wearing a pair of hose that makes you look like you’re not wearing a pair of hose? Does it keeps you warm? Or magically boost your self-esteem? Or is it the age-appropriateness factor? Somebody please? Cause I’m clueless.

    • http://www.tomandlorenzo.com/ Tom and Lorenzo

Evens out your skin tone, and if it has a little shimmer to it, makes the legs look thinner.

      • http://twitter.com/luqluqe LuqeMann

Thanks for the enlightenment. Lol. But seriously, you guys have very sharp eyes. Doesn’t look like she’s wearing hose at all. But reading your comment, I guess that’s the whole point of it looking like it’s not there eh? She’s still a fabulous lady though. Forgot to add that one in the first comment. :)

    • GorgeousThings

It makes the shoes easier to wear, it evens out your skin tones, and it magically covers up any veins that may be showing, which happens once you hit a certain age (ask me how I know).

      • bitchybitchybitchy

Why sugar, I would nevah dream of asking a lady how she knew something like that!

      • RebeccaKW

A friend of mine, when we were in high school, liked to wear short shorts (not to school).  Not butt-cheek baring, but darn near.  However she was very pale and had some cellulite, so to counteract that, she wore hose.  With her shorts.  And sandals or tennis shoes or whatever.  Even in the Texas summers of 100+.  I never understood it.

        • Heather

I remember the “hose with shorts” thing from when I lived in the Florida Panhandle. It’s a very specific demographic who would do that.

    • http://profile.yahoo.com/C5V2EGUMM2GBH5YBQ74Y4SUOQM Maev

And in countries where it’s a touch nippy (I have no idea if that applies here mind you), they do definitely help you stay warm – and trust me, every little helps.

      • http://twitter.com/luqluqe LuqeMann

Since I live in a country where it’s always warm (not necessarily a good thing, just so you know) I don’t really know how a warm clothing work, but I still don’t get how a thin slice of fabric can help you to keep warm, even the slightest of warm. Hahaha.

    • Anathema_Device

They do help with warmth, in that they keep the cold air from hitting your skin. Also, they cover up red or blue veins, bruises, etc. I wouldn’t mind pantyhose coming back into style. They also work to create a clean line under clothing w/o the binding of a shaper undergarment.

      • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_2CNDPMVO4W23R5TVC2QMTJ5BZE Heather

All of the above. Also, at least for women of my mom’s generation (she would be a bit older than Helen is now), wearing stockings was just part of dressing up – like proper undergarments or eyebrow pencil. She instilled this in me  – we always had to wear hose to church -  and recently I was quite appalled by a photo of someone (I think Kate Winslet?) meeting the Queen with bare legs!

    • Jacqueline Wessel

I love my hose (but not in the Summer)…they do keep you a little warm, they make your shoes feel more comfortable, they even out the skin tone of your legs, and (I know I’m in the minority here) … they make me feel all silky and sexy.

  • http://twitter.com/foodycatAlicia foodycatAlicia

Stunning. Could have edged towards mother of the bride in that colour but with a leather swing coat, chunky cocktail ring and the clutch it is perfection. Awful shaped shoes.

    • teensmom99

Ah–I see someone almost said it.  I think she  might be on the other side of the mother of the bride line -the leather-wearing kind.

  • GorgeousThings

Queen Helen of Fanfuckintasticka is in the house, yo!

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=733516833 Toby Wollin

Just pointing out that her initials, HM, also stand for Her Majesty and that is true too. I see those ‘star on the walk of fame’  shots all the time and in general, they look horrific. That would could pose on one leg standing on a garbage can and look amazing. And she’s laughing through it all, which adds to it.

  • Little_Olive

Agree- love it except for the shoes, which I hate with a passion.

Although I would have liked a bit more contrast between the dress and the coat. Maybe a darker shade of blue?

  • eowyn_of_rohan

It’s rare that a clutch makes the look, but that’s what I’m seeing here.  The contrasting color is perfect.

  • lexilexi

The hair! The glow of her skin! The color of her dress! The perfect flattering style!  Despite the shoes (must have been a stretch for her), it’s a WERQ for me.

  • schadenfreudelicious

The woman needs more than a star, a constellation would be appropriate!

    • bitchybitchybitchy

A galaxy, perhaps would be more appropriate for Dame Helen

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_3JSTXMWWVZN2QNP2UEKJMTWD7U Isabel

I saw the pics last night on the Daily Mail website & I knew that TLo would write about it. Fab. Fab. I want to dress like her when I am her age.

She looks better than the model with the coat.

  • http://www.myblackfriendsays.com myblackfriendsays

She is great because she shows women like me that we can still look fabulous as we age.

  • bitchybitchybitchy

Dame Helen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Damn, but she is one fabulous broad-if I ever grow up, I want to be just like her!

  • Judy_S

It just occurred to me as I was admiring her that she has one of the great RC smiles in the universe (hence Queen of FF-ia). For some reason I flashed back to her face in her youth, and realized how often she played sulky, pouty, confused, or simply serious (but always sexy) young women. And characters like Tennison or the Queen are not exactly happy campers. How lovely that she has that seemingly deep well of smiles to draw on.
Also love the clothes, ability to look graceful in ridiculous poses.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Jessica-TallGirl-Freeman/1043623567 Jessica TallGirl Freeman

I wished the shoe were as elegant and refined as the rest of the outfit. Those look terrible.

  • Judy_J

I don’t like the shoes, either, but my god….the color of the dress and coat is just gorgeous!  She couldn’t have picked a more perfect color to go with that platinum hair.  So glad she went with nude hose….I was worried about her sudden prediliction for black hose.  She looks stunning here.

  • http://twitter.com/kbshee kbshee

I love how happy she looks. So often the people look like they’re forcing smiles, but the amazing Helen looks genuinely thrilled. And this isn’t the first time I’ve seen her look happy too!

  • MilaXX

LOVE HER. She looks great and I actually like this particular pair of silly putty shoes.
What a nice palette cleanser after that Project Runway BS.

    • mjude

      exactly!

  • MissMariRose

I want to be Helen Mirren when I grow up.

  • mjude

    must bow down……….

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000172512508 Emerald Storm

A little slice of Helen? Yes Please!!! She looks great, didn’t even notice her strange shoes at first just that beautiful smile.

  • http://twitter.com/bkiersten BridgetK

Queen Helen is certainly deserving of the honor.  Although all these star-receiving pictures are always a bit awkward with the careful sitting on the ground without showing off the unmentionables.  Lovely dress, by the way.  Love everything about it (and the fantastically unique pin).

    • l_c_ann

The pin might be from Taos or Santa Fe where the gecko is often an embellishment.

  • PastryGoddess

    Seriously..she just gives me life

    Luv Huh!

  • http://twitter.com/urban_gypsy Tess Danesi

Helen looks stunning, that is so her color. Even with those ridic shoes, please don’t tell me turned up elf toes on platforms are going to be a thing now, I must bow down.

  • http://profiles.google.com/claudiaberry Claudia Berry

    Ah, Queen Helen, love her!!!

  • Pants_are_a_must

Can I be a lady who lunches with her, please?

  • Tamara Hogan

    /slow clap/ Stunning.

  • meowing

What a lovely phrase:  “…wearing hose.”

  • nannypoo

Another celebrity attempts to make handprints in a slab of granite. When will they learn?

She looks absolutely gorgeous in this outfit. Hair and makeup are perfect too. Fabulous.

    • alyce1213

That is so funny, you know.

  • captrenault

Helen is this year’s recipient of the “Patrick Stewart Award for Still Being Hotter Than You”.

  • Anathema_Device

That look is kind of “”Queen Elizabeth’s edgy sister,” but I can’t argue with how good she looks.

  • butterflysunita

Love the first shot of her with her hand on her hip.  And that coat is fabulous.  Best Walk of Fame star photo I’ve ever seen.

  • http://twitter.com/peacebang Victoria Weinstein

BOWING down. That ensemble could have been so Mother of the Bride if not for the leather. What brilliance. The shoes are I-can’t-look hideous but her glorious hair, smile, essence and clutch bag raise it all to Queen Level.

    • l_c_ann

Or in her case GM otB.

I thought it was more a take off from the Queen (the real one) who wears solid colors (coat + dress) so that she will stand out in a crowd.

  • BrooklynBomber

I know I’m in the minority, but often I really dislike the way she dresses. This, however, is FABULOUS. Except, I agree, the shoes. Oh, and the bag. But who cares? The dress and coat are absolute perfection.

  • PeggyOC

Agree on all points.  The shoes are weird, but otherwise, all hail the return of Queen Helen of FanFuckingtastica.

  • juscowan

She is one of my favorite actresses of all time – if you saw her as Elizabeth I and then the present queen or as Detective Jane Tennyson in Prime Suspect.  she is amazing!!!

  • http://twitter.com/stellaphone Stella Zawistowski

The dress is great. The shoes, not so much. But her “I am awesome” facial expression is priceless.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_2CNDPMVO4W23R5TVC2QMTJ5BZE Heather

Awesome! I also love her lizard pin.

  • alyce1213

She is absolutely radiant.  That color is perfection, hair and makeup are lovely, the chartreuse bag is inspired.
I read that her star is next to Colin Firth’s.  Nice.

  • Joyce VG

    She twinkles in periwinkle! Lovely!

  • Vanja

That is a great colour on her. I think she should’ve worn the shoes the model is wearing. Love her hair, she just looks radiant.

  • BazoDee

Three snaps in Z-formation. Damn she looks fan-f-ing-tastic. Hate the shoes -it is the platform.

  • http://twitter.com/lisledanielle Danielle Lisle

She is not of this Earth. Completely fabulous.

  • http://www.ellenciompi.com/ NurseEllen

She looks beautiful and very happy.  Thank god she’s ditched all the Dolce & Gabbana widow’s weeds she had been sporting during all the “Hitchcock” photo-ops; they were SO VERY unbecoming.  This is chic, in a “look at me” color which really complements her own coloring, which is well accessorized–the most essential accessory being her delightful, clearly pleased smile.  Queen Helen is back for the New Year!

  • teensmom99

MInority opinion here: kind of mother of the bride.

    • meowing

Guess at her age, more grandmother of the bride.  However, gorgeous and elegant and fun grandmother!

  • Annabelle Archer

Absolutely fabulous. The dress, the shoes, whatever, it’s that smile that is showstopping. Love her.

  • Nonmercisansfacon

This is the look of a woman who is at ease with her body and her life. And she is continually alight with the glow of sexual satisfaction.

  • EEKstl

QHOFF does it again.  I literally gasped when I saw the pics.  Perfection.  The hair is a dream too.  Bow Down, mere mortals!

  • http://twitter.com/aidanboleyn Aidan B

Love love love it! And I’m SO glad she’s not in Valentino!

  • kikisayshi

My husband has a mad crush on Ms. Helen, although he’s less than half her age. She’s fantastically fabulous!

    • YourBaloneyDontGotNoSecondName

According to reddit, there are a *lot* of young men who have MILF and GILF fantasies about Ms. Helen.

  • pop_top

She is fabulous and I love her.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_VZLU6YVO4BRTELTTH3GRAAMWZQ Dot

Gorgeous. That color is stunning on her.

  • guest2visits

Wow she looks wonderful – love the whole chic and easy way she’s put together.

  • miagain

Why do they make that fabulous woman sit down on the ground?  She’s not doing a handprint for chrissake!

  • neofashionista

this is her personal BEST …. EVER

  • http://profiles.google.com/scaponigro Sarah Caponigro

    What a fantastic lady.

  • Kristy Evans

She is just divine, isn’t she?

  • DaringMiss

I pray every night to have the style and flair of Helen Mirren when I am older.

  • unbornfawn

Adore that picture of Helen with her hand on her hip next to her star! Perfection.

  • http://twitter.com/cornekopia Shawn EH

    That coat is lovely.

  • TSkot

That’s what a million bucks looks like, right there.

  • plinkiedoodle

In the words of Tom and Lorenzo:  Bow down bitches!

  • http://profiles.google.com/dorothymichael Dorothy & Michael n/a

She’s a dozen  years older than I am and I sure as hell  hope I look half that good when I’m her age!  The color is out of this world on her.  I know it would be weird to wear it more, but she sure looks fab in it.

  • http://twitter.com/#!/Space_Kitty Space Kitty

    She is my spirit animal.

  • http://twitter.com/PhDKnitter marlie

Lordy, I LOVE this woman. She’s just gorgeous.

  • Trisha26

I want to be Helen when I grow up! Shoes are hein.

  • kimmeister

That coat is divine.  The shape of the shoes is too juvenile though (not to mention downright ugly).

  • julnyes

    She is FABULOUS!
    ((i hate the shoes))

  • joything

I sure needed the taste and panache of Queen Helen of Fuckingfantastica, after that PR All-Stars belch.  Thank You, Gay Daddies.

  • Lisa M. (ReVoir) Kramp

My heroine! We should all look that good NOW, let alone at 60-something. Fantastic color on her.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_F73LIJ3SJGI5AJQMXMWXCKILHI Pamela

Helen RULES the world and merely allows us to live here.  Bitch is stunning.

    Bow down!  She’s fabu!

  • http://twitter.com/Josietoyou Joanne Abrams

    Finally…Helen looks great.  Yipee

  • jabes

The coat seems very “Queen Elizabeth II” to me — she’s got too great of a figure to hide it in something so shapeless, especially when the dress underneath looks like it would be very flattering.

  • CrazyAuntie

    WERQ!!

  • http://twitter.com/poptartsjen Pop Tarts Jen

I love her little lizard pin thing! She’s so fab. *sigh*

  • Peeve

Helen Mirren is the only star I’ve ever seen who managed to look damn sexy while posing in front of her star. Love huh! Wonderful color for her hair and skin tone, as well. I wish I looked half as good as she does.

  • Sweetvegan

My first thought was, “She doesn’t already have a star?!”

  • quiltrx

Gorgeous outfit and she looks fabulous!  Well done.

  • http://twitter.com/emilyf007 emily

I LOVE HER! Helen Mirren is my idol.

  • http://twitter.com/MajorBedhead MajorBedhead

Well done! God, I love that woman.

  • ccm800

sheesh. Damn shes a good looking dame.

  • http://asskickingadviser.com/ Ass Kicking Adviser

What a fantastic color on her. She looks ten years younger than when she wears those black, D&G get ups.

  • bertkeeter

Stunning color and love the understated coat and dress! STAR!

  • Contralto

    OLD BITCHES SHUT IT DOWN.

Fucking fantastica.  God, I love her.

  • BigWhiteGrannyPanties

OH damn.  I was loving it until the hooves.  It made me sad.  But the color of the dress/coat is wonderful.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Bob-Sponge/100000465550991 Bob Sponge

I always love the way she dresses herself, but she tends to choose shoes I disagree with. Naughty girl.

  • AnneElliot

    Bowing down!!!

And I agree about the shoes, though it’s refreshing to finally see her out of those opaque black tights.  I read somewhere that she doesn’t like her ankles, but I think her legs look great.
