Golden Globe Awards Red Carpet – Part 3

Posted on January 14, 2013

Home stretch, bitches! Stay with us, now! You can do it!

Amanda Seyfried in Givenchy

A long-line bra in dress form. Easily one of our least favorite of the night.

Carey Lowell in Valentino

Standard in a lot of ways, but since she looks pretty damn good, we’re going to go with the kinder “classic.”

Eva Longoria in Emilio Pucci

 Rein it in there, Vampira.

Francesca Eastwood in Pronovias

Pretty enough, but girl seriously needed some color.

Halle Berry in Atelier Versace

TACKY AS SHIT. Girl, you’re hot. You know it; we all know it. Your name is pretty much a synonym for “hot” at this point. So there’s no need to be wearing a dress that grabs everyone by the face and screams “AREN’T I HOT?!? I’M FUCKING HOT, RIGHT?!?”

Helena Bonham Carter in Dolce&Gabbana

We’ve defended her style plenty of times, but we simply can’t sign off on this one. The dress is unflattering and the hair’s a mess. Cute purse, though.

Jennifer Lopez in Zuhair Murad

This is a “Hola, Lovers” dress if ever we saw one.

Julliane Moore in Tom Ford

 Strikingly gorgeous.

Julie Bowen in Halston

We think she’s perfect for the classic easy/sexy Halston style, but this isn’t working for us. Too wrinkled and too much gathering at the hip. Great color for her, though.

Kaley Cuoco in Zuhair Murad

Kate Hudson in Alexander McQueen

We thought this looked like too much onscreen, but we’re loving it in pictures. Points to her for stepping ever so slightly out of her comfort zone. It was, however, way too tight on her.

Kristen Wiig in Michael Kors

 Girl, no. Drab and droopy.

Megan Hilty in Novis

Standard, but crazy-flattering on her. The hair, on the other hand, is awful.

Nicole Richie in Naeem Khan

Nicole Kidman in Alexander McQueen

Like Kate Hudson’s McQueen, we thought this was a bit much onscreen, but we’re loving it here. No need to look so surprised, Nicole.

Rosario Dawson in Antonio Berardi

Great color on her, but the weird shoulders and peplum are awfully distracting and unflattering.

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley in Saint Laurent

Stunning dress, but she’s too blonde now.

Sarah Paulson in Reem Acra

Kind of horrifyingly unflattering on her. Honestly, we don’t see how that neckline would flatter anyone.

Sienna Miller in Erdem

The dress looks like a bolt of fabric and her head is terribly underdone.

Stacy Keibler in Armani Privé

Simply gorgeous. We originally wrote “Simple and gorgeous,” but then we figured people would think we were calling her dumb or something. It was a bit too tight in the bust, though.

Zosia Mamet in Tony Ward Couture

It’s an interesting dress, but her hair and makeup are atrocious and she really needed some jewelry.

Poor Ms. Mamet has come down with a case of Dmitri Brow.

    • captrenault

It’s too bad.  I’m a big fan of Joyce’s, and this could have gone so much better.

    • MRC210

Who is Ms. Mamet and why has she never heard of lipstick or shampoo?

      • charlotte

David Mamet’s daughter. She’s on Girls and also plays Peggy’s lesbian friend Joyce on Mad Men.

        • JMansm

She was also HILARIOUS on United States of Tara.

        • Lily-Rygh

Holy crap!  I had no idea she was David Mamet’s daughter.  That provides such interesting food for thought. I wonder if she would ever consider playing the lead in Oleanna — she would be perfect for it!

        • Meg0GayGuys6

THAT’S WHERE SHE’S FROM!!!  THANK YOU!!!!  I’ve been trying to place her since going on a Girls binge last weekend!

          • Unfortunately, she’s wearing her hair EXACTLY like her character Joyce on Mad Men, the gown wants to be a biker jacket.  What’s with all the tight, just-get-my-hair-out-of-my-face ponytails?  Were the hair stylists on vacation?

    • Maybe she’s going for a Frida Kahlo “I won’t conform to society’s standard of beauty” thing. It’s rather incongruous with the pretty dress. Somewhat like when I tried to dress up back in high school.

  • Allyson Wells

I love how when Giuliana interviewed Sienna on the red carpet she said, “You literally have NO makeup on right now” haha like that was some kind of compliment!

    • Sobaika

It was – with all the scrutiny and photographers, and even the most beautiful people wouldn’t like to appear on camera without warrior paint. She must have truly flawless skin. She does look undone, but quite a few other stars would probably look unrecognizable with as little as she has going on.

    • MilaXX

ironically Guiliana had on too much and Sienna too little, perhaps they should have smushed faces to even things out.

      • OMG, there was more than enough on Kaley Cuoco’s creepy horror-movie-face to go around. WTF with that arterial lippy and black, black eyes? I don’t care about her, famewise, but she’s a decent-looking chick, so she should fire whoever did that to her face.

        • MilaXX

I don’t mind a dark look with the right outfit, but paired with these ethereal blush tones and fabrics it’s just wrong

          • RebeccaKW

Yes.  She looked like a floating pair of lips.

        • SERIOUSLY! she scared the crap out of me!

      • Veronica Russek

Guliana looked horrible last night… She could easily be a forerunner for worst dressed!

        • She’s been really ill.

          •  With a disease that makes you wear unattractive dresses? I am sorry to hear she’s been ill, but surely that doesn’t cause taste issues?

    • Lisa_Cop

I hated Sienna’s dress but liked the “natural” make-up.

Very surprised at Halle. With that ultra-high slit, she has even out tackied Heidi Klum!

      • Nancy Dunn

I think the worst part was the slit at the hip. What an absurd gown!!!

  • Sobaika

I think Amanda Seyfried was on the right track – her hair and makeup are simple and lovely, but that dusty sort of color doesn’t photograph well and washes her out.

    • bd73

i think it’s time to really analyze why seyfried is such a consistent fail. she always give pretty face and hair, but from the neckdown it’s a wrap. she isn’t dealing with any actual challenges. what is the problem?

      • Lisa_Cop

When Seyfried turned around the dress was bunching all around the zipper.

    • EveEve

Really?  I thought her makeup looked terrible under the stage lights – it was muddy brown.  And that dress was tragic.   Lots of wasted potential right there.

      • Sobaika

Don’t remember it onstage, but on the red carpet her makeup looked sublime. Really pretty and subtle. I don’t think heavy makeup really suits her and if she doesn’t need to pack it on, she shouldn’t bother.

  • Have to chuckle at the ladies trying to pull off the Angelina Jolie Leg, when they are so obviously not Angelina Jolie.

Julianne Moore wins my Best Dressed for the night. The back of that dress is what made it. She looked amazing.

    • Carly Warnock

Everyone keeps going on about pulling a Jolie with the leg but let’s be real, Angelina Jolie has chicken legs and wasn’t the first to wear a gown with a high slit. I think some of the ladies last night were doing it much better. Halle Berry may look tacky as hell but those legs are to die for.

      • MilaXX

AMEN, but regardless everyone looks silly making that pose

        • DeborahJozayt

That’s why I do the pose while wrapped in a bath towel; keeping my ego in check!

        •  I keep thinking it would be hilarious if an actor (Will Ferrell? Jack Black) was walking the RC and suddenly stepped forward, unzipping a few pre-cut threads in a pant leg and thrusting his leg out.  Maybe that would halt all the women from doing it again.  For a decade or so, anyway.

          • MoHub

Matt Stone and Trey Parker might try that.

      • AnaRoW

I think the problem is that every time someone shows a leg they call it Angelina Jolie leg. The only one coming close to doing the Angelina Jolie leg above is Rosie H-W.  The rest are showing their legs but they’re not doing that awkward legs wide apart/almost squatting thing that Angelina did.

When I first saw Halle’s dress I got ready to swoon and then I noticed the side cutout or what ever it is. Why would anyone think it was a good idea to ruin a perfectly good dress like that?

        • Lisa_Cop

Really, her underwear must have been showing:(

    • mhleta

I thought we all agreed the Angelina Jolie leg was really stupid. Why are people still doing it?

      • LambeeBaby

That stupid leg sticking out trend has got to go. We ALL know you have great legs. Stop acting like Real Housewives bimbo’s. If you need to show that much skin get a nude scene and get paid for it.

        • Lisa_Cop

          Looking at you Eva Longoria.

    • Introspective

julianne went high fashion (as per usual) but unlike many of her more complicated looks, went for simple, clean lines, and it just worked. gorgeous.

      • bitchybitchybitchy

I loved Julianne Moore in that Tom Ford dress-as you said, simple, clean lines, covered up on the arms and the bodice, then she turns around-now that’s a smart way to do sexy.

        • sariebee

She finally found the sleek way to work out her cherished “two dresses in one” obsession.

  • charlotte

Scrolldown “No!”. At least that’s what I kept saying with some exceptions. At least Julie Bowen is giving us a new variety of the many ways you can use a bathtowel.

  • RoxieRider

Halle Berry’s dress looks like her boob broke it.

    • MRC210

Or the dress broke her boobs.  Her right boob ate her left boob and is now trying to consume the rest of her torso.

    •  Definitely something wonky going on in the boob area, no?

      • bitchybitchybitchy

I thought that the print was somehow too busy for that dress.

    • Introspective

i definitely saw the titscrepancy at home & was clueless as to why she’d have still gone with that dress.

its a travesty for her girls. & theyre angry about it. as mrc210 suggests, the right one’s especially pissed.

    • MK03

You’ve really got to put some effort into a dress that makes someone look THAT lopsided.

    • MissMariRose

Yeah, it’s weird. Julie Bowen has a similar titscrepancy going on. Must be the way those Wilma-esque dresses were cut.

  • I honestly don’t get why anyone thinks ‘gone-slightly-grey-in-the-wash’ is a good colour for dresses. It’s not flattering or striking on anyone.

    • Sobaika

Usually not, but I’ve seen a few women of color rock them. “Flesh” tones only look good when it’s not really the color of your flesh.

      • MilaXX

yes, I like it on darker skin tones where there’s a contrast with the skintone.

    • Mazenderan

I think it can look pretty on staged photo-shoots -where they can do magical stuff with lighting and setting, but it just looks drab in real life

  • Looks like Julie Bowen snagged her dress on something. That is unfortunate, not that it would have made the dress any better.

  • Carly Warnock

I really think Nicole Kidman looked stunning. I’m coveting that dress hard.

  • siriuslover

Nicole Richie came in second behind Michelle Dockery for me. Just a stunning, well fit dress.  I also loved Nicole Kidman’s and Julianne Moore’s gowns.
THANK YOU for calling out Halle Berry. I could not stand that outfit. My husband came home last night and showed me the pics he took and I went off on how horrible that dress was. I also cannot get behind all the Angeline leg tricks I saw last night…and Halle was right there with them.

    • DinaSews

Is your husband a fan?  Or a photographer?

      • siriuslover

He takes pictures every year on the Red Carpet for the HFPA. It’s not his “day job,” but it’s a once-a-year guilty pleasure.

      • siriuslover

He takes pictures every year on the Red Carpet for the HFPA. It’s not his “day job,” but it’s a once-a-year guilty pleasure.

        • DinaSews

I hope you don’t mind if I ask a question then! Does he have to fight for a spot for good pictures? Or are they assigned? Any starlet ever really irritate him? I was thinking last night how I would stand on that red carpet and roll my eyes at all of the ‘leg tricks’! No class.

          • siriuslover

I don’t mind. Photographers are assigned spots. I’m not sure how those assignments are made though since I’m not in the thick of thinks. Mums the word on irritating people (specifically those who don’t stop or stop only for one group and move on). But there are celebrities who sometimes take the time to say hello or thank the photographers. Ewan McGregor was really nice, as was Adele and Zooey Deschanel. But that’s all I know right now.

          • lamireille

I cannot tell you how happy I am to hear that Ewan McGregor was nice. I adore him madly.

    • MilaXX

yes! all the leg kicks were annoying last night

      • Lily-Rygh

And embarrassing!  It’s such an obvious attention-seeking move in an already attention-seeking environment… just seems a bit pitiful to me.  And somebody like Halle, in particular, doesn’t need to play games to remind us all that she’s drop-dead.

    • TheDivineMissAnn

Nicole Richie’s dress was my absolute favorite.  Beautiful color and fabric.

    • Nicole Richie’s dress might have fit but she’s starting to resemble Bette Davis in her late years before she died and that’s not good for someone her age.

  • BrooklynBomber

Ooh, T&Lo: you should have told your girlfriend her dress is too small before she went out the door! (I agree about the lovely color, though.)

Lots of long sleeves this year — it’s refreshing.

  • MoHub

Carey Lowell could have been perfect if she’d only worn a bra. Girls are riding very low.

    • Little_Olive

      Yes, yes yes.

Boob placement is usually a miss (amiss?) in these events. As I’ve said before, it’s so easy I cannot understand why they fail so much.

  • deathandthestrawberry

Nicole Richie, dare I say, looks elderly there. I mean, the color of the lace is pretty, but she looks like she could be her grandmother or her groovy great aunt. The heavy blue eye shadow isn’t helping. My own grandmother always overdid the makeup so perhaps I’m projecting.

    • Tatiana Luján

The makeup, the fake tan, the unflattering hair color.

    • Pants_are_a_must

No, this was very striking to me as well. She is 31. Mind you, she has a past of drug use and an eating disorder, and that would age anyone quickly. Even with that in mind, however, she styles herself overly mature and does no favors to herself in terms of tanning and hair.

      • Lisa_Cop

There was a shot on E that showed Nicole’s dress up close and you could see all the detailing and heading. I agree with TLo that it is gorgeous.

  • Imasewsure

“long-line bra in dress form” is exactly perfect. Julianne Moore looked amazing (what a relief) and Nicole Ritchie too… who knew?

  • I can’t help but look at Mamet and Paulson and thing “Stern Prairie Schoolmarm hair.”

  • Sobaika

Removed, meant to be a reply.

  • I LIKED Halle Berry’s dress. Maybe a peekaboo panel too many (is that one at her waist? ), but the colours and patterns are gorgeous and unusual and she isn’t wearing a sequined tube. She would have looked amazing in Julie Bowen’s Halston too.

Stacy Kiebler gets a WERQ from me.

And when did Nicole Richie turn into Diane von Furstenburg’s granny?

    • MilaXX

For me the hip/waist  cut out was a step too far.

      • kimmeister

I didn’t even see the hip cutout when she was onstage, but I was aghast to see it pictured here.

  • I’m gonna go ahead and call Halle Berry’s dress a cry for help. That girl is a beautiful mess. Her custody and boyfriend/baby daddy drama isn’t helping her image much either. I thought Julianne Moore’s dress was gorg and perfect from the front but not so much a fan of the back (which you could see when she was accepting her award). Rosario Dawson’s peplum dress is a tragedy because the color (and her in it) is so gorgeous, but the peplums easily make her look 2-3 sizes bigger than she is. Totally distracting.

    • kimmeister

When Rosario came out to present I yelled out, “Girl, that is not your peplum!”

  • AR16

Stacey Keibler and Kate Hudson were the bests of the night for me.   I’d probably give the edge to Hudson if I had to.

    • MilaXX

I wish Kate’s hair was in the back, maybe a low, loose ponytail.

      • Sobaika

Yup, her great neckline deserved to be shown off.

      • Sobaika

Yup, her great neckline deserved to be shown off.

      • Lily-Rygh

My thoughts exactly — it obstructs the top of that unconventionally beautiful dress of hers.

      • RebeccaKW

Yes.  I wished for an updo of some sort to show off that neck detail.  I really liked her dress.

    • kimmeister

Hudson was the winner among the McQueen wearers, for me.

    • Little_Olive

My conclusion too. And to my dismay, Nicole Kidman.

There is a lesson for the ladies in “nude”/lace dresses -which btw were all disastrous- if there ever was one.

      • littlemac8

I thought the McQueen made Kidman look wonky in the middle.  On the red carpet she held her shoulders back in some kind of weird effort to keep the netting from wrinkling.  It must be hell trying to wear these fancy loaner dresses!

  • Julianne Moore for the win. That was an amazing dress. Sitting down, standing up, just so chic. Loved her whole look.

  • Cloveradams

I do believe my mother had the fabric of Sienna Miller’s dress as a bathing cap (complete with attached blossoms) ca. 1964. As is, it looks like My First Simplicity Pattern, whipped together in the course of a rainy afternoon.

    • kimmeister

The print just looks juvenile, like Kiernan Shipka is too old for it even.

      • Jen

My 7 year old niece loved it, if that’s any indication.

    • Little_Olive

That is a dress we would be criticizing on Elle Fanning for being too repetitive.

  • Halle looks desperate . . . and crazy. And, it’s hysterically funny how many women took Angelina seriously at the Oscars.

  • Imasewsure

Eva Longoria is starting to look like Joan Collins…. Peignors the RC… not good

  • meebs

I like both of the Nicole’s dresses. What did Kaley Cuoco do to her makeup people to have them hate her so much?

    •  That lip color is AWFUL.

    • kimmeister

Neither the eyes nor the lip color are working for her, much less in combination!

    • Little_Olive

It’s like she gave herself a looong ice bath before stepping into the RC.

  • MoHub

Siena Miller’s gown reminds me of what I wore to my cousin’s wedding in 1964, only mine was yellow.

  • golden_valley

Nicole Kidman is starting to look like a wax figure of herself.

    • Dot

With the eerie peering out from under her brow look, she actually reminds me of Elizabeth McGovern in the above photo.

  • BrooklynBomber

Julianne Moore: what happened? Wow! Most improved, A+, tip-to-toe perfection!

    • MilaXX

       custom made dress.

      • BrooklynBomber

Okay, but how to get her there? It’s a miracle, I tell you!

  • Alisa Rivera

Disagree on Sienna Miller. I saw closeup photos of her face and her skin is flawless, so why over-embellish that? I also like the retro-chic dress.

  • Sara LaBatt

Is that a hip cutout on the right side of Halle’s dress??  When I saw her presenting I thought it was a very interesting and flattering look, but I didn’t see her walk to the podium so I think I missed the trashy hip cut out and too high slit.

  • Billie_Dawn

Kaley Cuoco really is terrified of color, isn’t she? It seems like whenever I see her on here, the dress is white, off-white, nude, beige, or whatever other word you want to use for those incredibly unflattering colors.

    Also, her makeup is deranged.

    • Introspective

i was about to say, she’s afraid of color on her body, but she sure as hell didnt shy away from colored war paint on her face, eh? trowel applied for sure.

    • MoHub

She also seems to be afraid that we won’t realize that she has boobs.

  • Kara Keenan

My five year old was horrified by J Lo’s dress. “Mom, you can see her bum!” I think if you can work it, do it. J Lo looks amazing, and deserves to flaunt her figure. Not best dressed of the day, but for her, it works rather well.

  • julianne moore’s dress is all the … well, “moore” striking in that, like meryl streep, she often doesn’t seem to know how to choose things that suit her, or make her look as good as she can.

  • bluefish

Carey Lowell aka Mrs. Richard Gere and for once Julianne Moore.

  • butterflysunita

Julianne Moore looks stunning in that dress.  The best she’s looked in a while.

  • I’m pretty sure Francesca Eastwood is wearing a wedding dress, no?

    • Yes! I remember a friend shopping for wedding dresses had bookmarked several from the Pronovias brand. That is just plain weird.

    • Little_Olive

She is. Pronovia means, literally, Pro-brides. It’s a Spanish-based bridal store. They carry Valentino Sposa and their own line.

    • MoHub

       “Bridal” was my first reaction.

  • Janet B

Julie Bowen is wearing a beautiful color and Halston is one of her better choices, but not this particular dress.
Halle Berry – that fabric is not for the RC.
    Perfect: Julliane Moore

  • alyce1213

Julianne Moore is FINALLY wearing something as beautiful as she is! And so flattering. I was beginning to think she didn’t have it in her.  Tom Ford made this for her and boy, does she owe him. That’s a WERQ for me.

Also WERQs: Nicole (wow!), Nicole, Rosie H-W, and Stacy Keibler.

Kaley Cuoco might have been a WERQ in a smashing color.

Kate Hudson would have been a WERQ if Goldie was wearing it.

Zosia Mamet: “but her hair and makeup are atrocious”  What hair and makeup?

    • Sobaika

You don’t see the pools of blush on Zosia’s face? I think I would have preferred a bare face to that.

      • alyce1213

Not on my monitor in this shot.  Either way, it’s not good.

    • MilaXX

       Julianne did look gorgeous.

  • i love kaley cuoco, but the EYES + LIPS here just isn’t working.  as far as blush dresses go, though, hers is the least egregious, imo.

  • DinaSews

Eva is looking a little desperate lately! Kate Hudson was a huge winner for me.

  • nicole richie’s dress is gorgeous, but dayamn.  she looks at LEAST 45 here.

  • VicksieDo

For me, Kate Hudson won the whole night, and Julianne Moore was right up there too, especially since she won an award.

  • jilly_d

Luh-huv Julianne Moore in that gown. A+, loved the accessories and hair.  Why do people no longer do French twists?  So elegant.

  • if rosario dawson’s dress had had a lower neckline and less peplum, i think it would have looked great.

  • mjude

thank you for your halle berry comment.  i am over her

  • I love Nicole Richie’s dress, but overall I think this was an average-to-poor red carpet showing.

  • butterflysunita

Eva Longoria’s dress and hair are frightening me.  I love Stacey Keibler’s dress.

  • i’ll bet that’s the first time anyone has used “head” and “terribly undone” together in a sentence when describing sienna miller.

  • Joanna Strange

Remember when Britney Spears did the VMAs and she wore a nude sequined pantsuit?

That’s where Ms. Lopez got her dress.  Must be.  Someone should tell JLo that the look for the VMAs does not go with a look for the red carpet.

  • Tatiana Luján

Pronovias is a wedding gowns shop, so I assume Francesca Eastwood was wearing a wedding gown.
I think Julliane Moore and Michelle Dockery were the best dressed ones yesterday. Oh, and Jodie Foster, but I didn’t like her bob.
I actually like the peplum in Rosario Dawson’s dress, it looks like sea foam, but the shoulders are all kinds of wrong.
    I think I like Sarah Paulson’s dress.
Zosia Mamet’s dress is pretty cool, but yes, she ruined her look with the hair and makeup.

  • Call me Bee

Sheesh–lots of bad bridal on the runway last night!
I think Cary Lowell and Julianne Morre are my favorites of the evening.  Both amazingly elegant and understated.

  • call_me_schmeg

can i say that i’m kinda loving the fact that eva and HBC’s hair-do’s are, like, half the size of their own faces? “with this simple comb and a can of hair spray, i am now 4 inches taller!”

  • throwaneyeonthis

Halle Berry’s dress made her hips look wide, especially on camera last night.  Can you imagine what it would do to us mere mortals?

Loved Kate Hudson’s look from tip to toe.  No longer the ingenue but transitioning into a look more fitting for an actress in her 30’s.

  • MilaXX

HBC let us down. Tim had his arm in a sling and together they looked like the Inn keeper and his wife.

Sadly both Halle & JLo were  “of course”
Kaley makeup was too dark. Sienna’s was non existent.
Zosia Mamet continued the under makeup trend her costars started. The stylist failed all 3 of these ladies.

  • OrigamiRose

I hadn’t seen Carey Lowell’s picture until now; I’ve always liked her and she did not disappoint.  Easily one of my favorites of the evening.

  • mhleta

Amanda Seyfried: Playing dress up in Granny’s lingerie trunk again.
Helena Bonham Carter: The hair looks positively slept in.
Jennifer Lopez: Stenciled SPANX on a slammin’ body.
Julliane Moore: This looked dynamite from the front, but she looked to be sporting some VPLs from the rear.
Julie Bowen: Mother of the bride bought her dress, went on a diet and lost 20 lbs, but didn’t want to get a new dress.
Kaley Cuoco: This is a criminal misuse of makeup. Really bad and has nothing to do with the sort of look you want with this dress.
Kate Hudson: This had some fabulous attitude to it. “Yes, I’m second generation Hollywood Royalty. Stand aside, civilians.”
Kristen Wiig: This is the dress the high school slut wears to her 30th reunion to show everyone she still puts out, but you’d best proceed with caution, because she’s still got that nasty Clamydia thing.
Megan Hilty: Nice dress, Texas beauty pageant judge hair
Nicole Richie: Velvet burnout looks dated and ages her. Lady Sings the Lilacs.
Nicole Kidman: Apparently possessed by the same demon that took over Sarah Paulson’s soul and wardrobe.
Rosario Dawson: Love the color and I’m ok with the tummy-hiding peplum, but the top is suffocating her bazooms.
Rosie Huntington-Whiteley: Had to stretch out her leg to make room for the stick up her ass.
Sarah Paulson: Freaking me OUT. I feel like those diamonds hold the secret to summoning demons.
Sienna Miller in Erdem: Stolen off the back of someone’s grandmother at the  country club in Naples, FLA.
Stacy Keibler: Stolen from the pages of Gwenyth Paltrow’s play book, and executed perfectly.
Zosia Mamet: Needs a sassy haircut and some softness around her face. This is not her dress.

  • Annabelle Archer

I think Halle looks as tacky and batshit crazy as I suspect that she is.

Rosario is proving that peplums are no woman’s friend.

How is Nicole not getting lambasted for that matchy eye shadow?

So happy about Julianne and her abilities to say no to the frakendress.

Finally, JLo and Eva in a tie for most pathetically desperate crying out for attention looks of the night. Consider that neither has an acting job anywhere on the horizon and I guess you have their inspirations.

    • mhleta

Agreed regarding JLo and Eva. Iffy credentials at best.

    • kimmeister

I noticed Nicole Richie’s matchy eyeshadow with disapproval too, but dang if that dress isn’t amazing.

  • Kate Hudson’s dress made me gasp – it was amazing on her.  And I actually LIKE Kaley Cuoco’s dress, I just despise the color.  Imagine that in grey.  Gorgeous.

  • Kate Hudson’s dress made me gasp – it was amazing on her.  And I actually LIKE Kaley Cuoco’s dress, I just despise the color.  Imagine that in grey.  Gorgeous.

  • Jessi03

JLo is wearing Brit Brit’s old music video hand-me-downs.  I can’t tell if Rosario is dressed for high mass on Easter or if she’s a discount bridesmaid.  Kate Hudson looked so fantastic that she took my breath away.  When I saw Julianne Moore, I thought “She finally got it right!  TLo will be so proud of her!”  😀  HBC – I love you.  Never change.

    •  She and Tom Ford have amazing synergy.

  • I hate botox. Everyone looks reptilian, no one more so than Nicole Kidman. Seriously, stop with the needles to your foreheads.

  • Susan Sontag

Are Julie Bowen and Connie Britton wearing the same bracelets?

  • jennsilentcrow

I seriously feel hate in my heart for almost all of these.

  • Sing4yursupper

“Hola lovers” Too funny. I had a feeling remarks would go that way as soon as I saw her.

  • siena miller is the worst ever. greasy yoga hair, shiny yoga face, and flower-patterned yoga floor mat.

  • f_yeah_marie

I love Amanda Seyfried’s haircape, but Tina’s hair was glorious last night.

  • Rand Ortega

Halle Berry, Tactacular? Tackytacular? Either way, that genuine Versace that looks like a bad Versace knockoff is awful.
Mrs. Never Clooney looks fantastic. Full stop.
    Nicole Ritchie FTW.
Sienna Miller looks like she stole that reject from “The Girl”, but Wardrobe refused to take it back since they had the good sense not to use it in the movie.
Zosia Mamet looks just like her amazing mom, Lindsay Crouse, so I’m hoping her lack of correctly accessorizing a great gown is merely a sophomore mistake.

  • My first thought when I saw Halle was that she was wearing an evening gown that belonged to her character in the Flintstones.

Kate Hudson is serving up some serious Goldie Hawn here.

  • That’s a Stacy Keibler personal best. The more she looks like a Klum sister, the better for her.

  • Thanks for posting Stacy.  I was going to go internet diving to see how she looked & now I don’t have to!  I am pretty impressed with how  far she’s come in the style department since she’s become Clooney’s escort.  Far enough to warrant pics without him!

  • Little_Olive

Rosie H-W is looking way too much like Esther Cañadas. Maybe the lovechild of Esther Cañadas and Derek Zoolander.

  • decormaven

Is that a bar pin on the neckline of Amanda S’s gown? Whatever for? Hope we get a better round of gowns at the next awards show- nothing was a serious wow for me this go-round.

  • Monday1900

Kate Hudson and Nicole Kidman’s dresses reminded me of something Joan Crawford would have worn back in the day (in a very good way).  Zosia’s dress was one of my favorites but I agree that she was woefully undermade up and the hair wasn’t good.  Also, not sure she was tall enough for the dress.

  • Zosia looks like a high school nerd wearing a Game of Thrones costume to Comic Con, and real happy about it too.

  • schadenfreudelicious

Halle’s dress makes her look like she has one huge boob, its very off putting…Eva Longoria is indeed terrifying and Nicole Kidman looks ready to pounce, though it is difficult to be sure given that her face appears to be once again frozen in place….

  • The illusion netting trend needs to GO! You are not ice skaters.

  • peachy

oh em gee … Vampira! primo.

  • halleygee

Kate Hudson was my favorite last night. Most of the dresses were pretty boring IMO.

  • libraangel

Halle has only one giant inflated boob – the other one is gone entirely! Sarah’s dress: please someone, pull it up! Stacey: WAY too tight on top; on T.V. she had giant boob-stretch marks! ROSIE FOR THE WIN!!! I think she is stunning, blonde or not!

  • Lily-Rygh

Helen Mirren would look AMAZING in Nicole Richie’s dress…

  • I thought Kate Hudson looked stun-NING.  Nicole Richie is starting to look like a young Gloria Vanderbilt.

  • stoprobbers

Love Zosia’s dress (FORMAL LEATHER ACCENTS I LOVE THEM), and I love her face even more. “I’m on the Golden Globes red carpet! HA! Ridic!” There’s something about how amused she seems by where she is that I really love.

Also, people making fun of her eyebrows: No. They are AMAZING. You wish your face could pull those off.

    • libraangel

She also looked so happy when ‘Girls’ won. I loved looking at her smile. Not everyone can have a model’s face, but an interesting face is much nicer.

  • I thought for sure that TLo would post “of course” when I saw JLo last night.

  • warnerave

    Stacey’s shd be a WERQ!

  • Halle Berry is still HOT. Even though it’s obvious and she is showing it off, I can’t hate on her for it.

  • janierainie

I don’t know who Sara Paulson is but she looks like she’s made up to be in “Lincoln” as Mary Todd’s not as attractive sister. Someone should be fired for that!

Crazy Aunt Helena. Gotta love her.

  • SassieCassy

kate hud was best dressed of the night

  • libraangel

JLo always looks the same, and somehow she always manages to look slutty.

    • Zippypie

Her dress was waaaaay too tight.  I think if she went up a size she wouldn’t have looked quite as trampy.  It was really pronounced when she was presenting on stage how ill-fitting that dress was.

  • Veronica Russek

What was Halle Berry thinking?!?!?!?! And those earrings??? I wouldn’t even wear them grocery shopping…. Break out the diamonds! Or weren’t the jewelers were in a lending mood?

You guys left the worst ones in this post…. But Juliane Moore, JLo and Nicole reedemed it.

  • procrastinatrice

Alexander McQueen FTW. Love those dresses on Kidman and Hudson. Homegirl Moore is looking classy!

  • libraangel

Helen Mirren can do no wrong. I still like HBC for sticking to her own style. But I am SO sick of dusty or pale pink dresses (and the white/pink dresses on Hayden and Megan washes them out (anemia!). Ditto for the see-through mini/maxi trend like Rachel. Make it go away!

  • Zippypie

Amanda Seyfried – she’s been on a serious downward spiral to Ragland.  This is damn bad when you can turn such a pretty girl into a washed out nothing.

Carey Lowell – the color and fit are great but the shoulder rosette makes that boob look bigger than her other boob.  I know it’s an optical illusion but it’s messing with my head.

Eva Longoria and Halle Berry – Jesus wept.  Just come in a thong and pasties, ladies.  We know you want to!

The Keibler Elf – can’t get behind the horizontal stripes and it is too tight in the bodice.  But she looked happy.

My favorite of this group is Nicole Ritchie but is she ill?  Dress is stunning but the poor girl does not look well.  Kate Hudson and Nicole Kidman do look much better in stills than they did on television.

  • I can’t see JLo now without hearing, “HOLAAAAA, Loveeerrrrrs” in my head.

    It’s kinda great, actually.

  • thecitysleeps

Kate Hudson looked so beautiful.  Great dress.

  • Halle’s dress really is a travesty. I like HBC’s dress, and her hair seems more tame than usual. Julianne Moore, Kate Hudson, and Nicole Kidman definitely in my favorites. Sienna Miller looks ridiculous. I love Zosia Mamet’s dress, but perhaps not on her.

  • I think Julianne Moore is doing it the wrong way.
She saves her best look for the night when 100 other women are there, fighting for the same press coverage/ best dressed lists…. But then when she does a premiere or a photocall or some such thing when the focus is going to be on her, she comes out in the worst frankendresses imaginable.
I would so rather see her be the lone wackadoo in a sea of standard Awards Night gowns. Then when it is HER night, she can bring the glamour. Just a thought.

  • snarkykitten

Methinks HBC & Tim Burton had a quickie in the limo

  • Pants_are_a_must

To be fair, I’m pretty sure Jennifer Lopez is Zuhair Murad’s muse. He has not seen a lacy sheer fabric that he has not laaaaaahved, and neither has she.

  • Winter_White

Oh, Halle Berry, no!  From another angle I thought I saw that tragic, screaming horse from Guernica on her dress.

  • e jerry powell

Apparently Halle caught Donatella coming off of a crystal meth bender.

  • EEKstl

If Queen Helen of Fuckingfantastica took the night, Julianne Moore took Silver.  Best I’ve ever seen her in an awards venue.  Stunning. Stacy Keibler for the Bronze.

Ya know, I think I was 9 when I saw Candice Bergen come out on stage at the Emmys in a blush/nude colored gown and I thought that it was wildly unflattering, especially on camera.  Did I mention I was 9?  I am stupefied that these women, who LIVE on camera, are either 1. not figuring this on their own, or 2. not having their gays tell them to just STOP IT.  Mystifying.

  • therealkuri

Halle Berry’s dress make her one breast look like a D cup and the other one look like an A cup. I’m pretty sure she isn’t doing breast surgery on a consignment plan, so if I dress does something like that to a women who’s normally hot with a capital H, I’m calling it an epic fail.

  • capybara_cafe

I wish blondes would stop wearing nude colored dresses! Unless the intent is to look like a well done up corpse…

  • maybakes

Kaley Cuoco’s make up makes her look like a vampy anime character. i’m seriously hoping she didn’t pay someone to do that

  • unbornfawn

Way too many blush colored dresses. Lots of forgettable. Tired of the tit windows. I liked Halle Barry’s print dress. Loved the strikingly gorgeous Julianne Moore and Stacy Keibler.

  • UglyTalents

I was waiting for you to get to Julianne in Tom Ford! I loved that dress so much.

  • Interesting how Sienna Miller turned into Diane Lane like that. Julianne Moore FTW, with Nicole a close second.

  • librarygrrl64

    Halle: sad
Juliane: one of her personal best
Kate: can’t stand her, but DAMN she looks fantastic in that
    Nicole: scary

  • Jecca2244

couldn’t agree more about rosie. I don’t think I realized how much she needed to be a brunette.

  • I’m sure I’m not the only person who noticed the number of younger women who have taken a page out of “Queen Helen’s Manual of Fashion Greatness” and have chosen something with sleeves. OMG – the number of actual sleeves out there was amazing and the youngsters, gasp, looked fantastic too. Who’d a thunk? On the other hand, Helene Bonham Carter should have shown up with Rachel Weicz. Those dresses complemented one another.

  • Mazenderan

Helena Bonham-Carter’s affected eccentricity is verrrry tedious.

Eva Longoria and Halle Berry’s gowns are shockingly bad – EL’s especially.

Julianne Moore and Stacey Keibler the best of this bunch, I think.

  • enchanted216

I’m glad you liked Julliane Moore in Tom Ford.  I thought she looked stunning:)

  • 3boysful

Michelle Dockery, Kate Hudson and Julianne Moore (shocker, that!) FTW!  LOVED all three.  Halle would have been better served had they sewed up the slit and ditched the cut-out.

  • mom2ab

Seriously am I the only one who can’t stop looking at Julie Bowen’s Easy Spirit pumps under her one shoulder snuggie?

  • claudemtl777

I finf it odd when you link to the fug girls…(Like with JLO)…Your writing is soooooo much better…

  • SophieCollier

I like Hallie’s dress.  And Helena ALWAYS has messy hair and gothy clothes.  This is pretty standard HBC.

    • bd73

i like halle’s too although the swath of fabric that forms the strap adds too much volume over her breast. i’d say this is the most tasteful version of her look that HBC has ever done.

      • pdquick

One breast is strapped down so tight it looked like she had a mastectomy, and the other was drooping to her waist. What the…?!

  • Julieanne Moore, Nicole Richie, Helen Mirren, Jennifer Lopez Were the big winners

  • JP

Halle, OMG, that dress screams, “Please, someone tell me I’m still relevant! I’m hot, right?” Tsk, tsk. As for La Lopez, I think it’s a longer hemline version of a skating costume. Sort of like Halle, but with sparkles. And Eva, who let her into Elvira’s lingerie collection? What is it about post-divorce/breakup stars that they all feel the need to go slutty?

Stacey Keibler looks amazing. Horizontal stripes shouldn’t work, but they do.

  • bertkeeter

On Julie Bowen….If that is truly vintage HALSTON, which I doubt, even HALSTON made a bad dress once and a while…and her stylist found it!

  • JaneDC

It seemed to me there were a lot of strapless dresses that were riding low on smushed boobs and more than a few low cut dresses on droopy bosoms.

  • Sarah Paulson’s dress is attractive but she had one too many glasses of champagne before dressing because she ruined it by putting it on backwards!

  • PhillipWilde

Has Nicole Richie eaten in the past 5 years?  She looks ill.

And I’m really hating the trends right now for lipstick that is either too dark or too light.

  • I think Kate Hudson is fabulous here.

  • Wendy Foster

Eastwood isn’t just wearing a wedding-ish dress–it’s an actual wedding dress.  Mine was by Pronovias, too.

  • I love these posts, TLo! Just wondering where Anna Gunn was. I briefly saw her on red carpet and couldn’t wait to see what you would say about it.

  • notterriblybitter

Halle Berry’s dress looks like something Joan Collins would’ve worn in “Land of the Pharaohs” of maybe on an episode of Star Trek back in the ’60s.

  • bitchybitchybitchy

This is a “Hola, Lovers” dress if ever we saw one. Word.  It’s definitely a classic JLO look.

  • Chillmer

Um. Francesca Eastwood’s Pronovias gown is a wedding gown. I should know – I wore it. To my wedding.

  • guest2visits

Julianne Moore was stunning. Thought Kaley Cuoco’s dress looked amazing for her – but the lips and makeup were a shade too far.
Halle’s torn hip was fairly ridiculous.   Undecided about Nicole K’s dress; but really unhappy to see what looks like more ‘adjustments’
or injections for her beautiful face. Soon she won’t look uniquely herself, anymore.

  • Julianne Moore is the only one who killed it for me.  The rest, eh.  They for the most part have great dresses but either they don’t suit the wearer or the hair and makeup isn’t right.  It kills me how these actresses want these sculptural, couture gowns yet rock the laziest hair and makeup possible.  Very few of you are natural beauties so you have to do a little more girls! And when you have designers throwing jewelry at you to advertise, there’s no excuse for some of them not having at least something on the neck or wrist.

I know she’s not a big girl but my god, what is up with JLo in that outfit?  It is NOT working gurl!

  • Kate Lorenz

Did anyone else think Sienna Miller’s dress looked like Vincent’s paper dress from Project Runway? I laughed out loud when I saw it, remembering him. Vincent, call Sienna Miller!

  • quiltrx

My win goes to Julianne Moore for this round!!!  You GO girl…this is a WERQ in my book.  Considering how often she gets it wrong, she really got it incredibly right here–dress, hair, clutch, everything.

Kaley is so adorable, and her makeup here is giving me nightmares.
And I loathe Eva Longoria anyway, so I enjoy telling her she looks like a madam at a really shitty whorehouse here.
Halle, seriously?  I think the print is really interesting, but maybe come in a complete dress next time, instead of showing how mostly-naked you can get.  You did that well on your Oscar night…but you, of all people, don’t have to go to that well so often.

  • pdquick

What’s up with the hemi-boob on Halle Berry?

  • Rebecca Jay

The older I get, the more I love/appreciate Julianne Moore.

Nicole Richie mesmerizes me every time.  I just stare.  What is it about her?

Rosario Dawson – the shoulders and peplum are what make her dress interesting, and she has the perfect figure for them.  Agree on the beautiful color.

    Francesca Eastwood:  Best name ever.

  • That’s exactly what I thought when I saw Jennifer Lopez.  And my next thought was, “Wasn’t Britney about 20 years younger than Lopez when she wore her see-through spangly get up?”

  • kathrineb

Hale’s dress has to be the worst and I am also hating Sienna Miller’s boxy dress.

  • I don’t want to read through all the comments, but I can’t be the only person who thinks Nicole Kidman looks like her boobs and hips are attached with scaffolding. So. Weird.

  • Sienna Miller’s dress is EXACTLY the kind of dress my mom would make me to go to church in. I can’t see the back, but unless it’s a shocking backless number that drops below your ass ala Heidi Klum in that one photo, that may actually be my old church dress.
