Eva Longoria Double Shot

Posted on January 24, 2013

We’ve never been particularly impressed with Miss Eva’s style choices. There have been one or two major missteps, but for the most part, her fashion sin is that she’s boring to us. She defaults to vampy, dramatic gowns way too often; like something a former beauty queen would wear. Never anything sassy or modern or what we would call chic.

But these two looks were pretty good, even if they’re not exactly far outside her wheelhouse.

Eva Longoria attends The Daily Beast Bi-Partisan Inauguration Brunch in Washington, D.C. in an Elie Saab Resort 2013 dress accessorized with Martin Katz earrings.

It’s matchy and it’s simple, but she looks fresh. The color works well on her and the makeup is fabulous. Tasteful, appropriate, looks good in pictures. Nailed it, we’d say.

This is a little closer to what we tend to expect from her:

Eva Longoria attends Latino Inaugural 2013: In Performance at Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. in a Vivienne Westwood gown accessorized with Martin Katz earrings.

But, credit where it’s due; she looks gorgeous. The color could be boring on the wrong gal – and we’re not trying to claim that it’s exciting here – but it does look great on her, we have to admit. The shape is just a bit too butt and tummy-focused, but that bustline looks gorgeous on her. We’re more than tired of the pin-straight center part, but it really works well here.

I love the first look, very pretty!

As for the second, it’s odd and not totally flattering so it’s kind of a success that she looks decent at all.

    • Kristin McNamara

And for the second look, she demonstrates that she is in the [unfortunately] very small group of starlets to ever listen to TLo and brushed her hair back behind her shoulders! Show off those collarbones, honey child!

    • moppet

The second gown looks like she just got back from a really refreshing swim and wrapped herself in a long towel. Especially the second picture. The first dress’ color is gorgeous and it’s nice to see her not looking so vampy.

    • Jill Morino

I totally agree! That second dress makes her look like she’s got a pooch and a ginormous ass, neither of which is even possible. “Butt and tummy-focused” in all the wrong ways!

      • Alyssa

Agree with everything said…the second gown could be a great maternity gown, when you’re starting to show, but don’t have the full-on bump yet!

  • gabbilevy

First look is lovely but not anything remarkable, but that’s the right direction for Miz Eva. The gown looks great from head on but from the side and back it’s pretty unflattering.

  • kimmeister

I adore the color of the first look on her, although I don’t love the shape on her.  Her hair there looks simple but flattering.

In the 2nd look, somehow her face looks like a cross between Sandra Bullock and Kelly Rowland.  They’re both beautiful women so that’s not a bad thing.

    • H3ff

I’m seeing more Juliana Margulies than K Row in the second look.

      • Robyn Garrett

        I think it’s straight Kim Kardashian…

  • mjude

she looks so much younger in the purple & i like the look.  normally i dont care for what she wears.

  • http://twitter.com/AShinyOConnor A Shiny O’Connor

‘Tis rare a girl who can’t werk Westwood – as they say in the old country.

    • H3ff

Or “wurk de Weshtwood”, as I’ve heard.

      • http://twitter.com/AShinyOConnor A Shiny O’Connor

Ah there’s land in the wesht. So said Kidman and Cruise when they used to act in a marriage inserted into movie sets.

What’s the weird little flap on the back of the second gown?

Both these looks are fine. Nothing risky, but fine.

  • fungstyle

Am the only one that thinks the shoes in look one are totally 90′s secretary shoes? not that i’m advocating for toe cleavage, they just look a little dowdy to my eyes.

  • MintaHallWriter

Have we all given up on PR? The new season of team-team-team starts tonight. Not sure whether I care about PR, but I was looking forward to the BK shenanigans in the Lounge…

    • Kristin McNamara

TLo has posted the TLounge later than 6pm before… All hope is not lost yet.

  • EEKstl

She looks good, I esp. like the first look, but I am so bored by her I am nodding as I type.

  • teensmom99

It’s funny how flattering Vivienne Westwood can be to some women with less than perfect bodies and then not great on someone like Eva. But I think it was a good choice for the event–as both outfits are.  But I have to confess that I’m a fan and think she looks well put together more often than not.

    • Sobaika

I like her looks too, but she never gets it quite right. As in, whenever Jennifer Lopez wears a look, it’s quintessentially JLo. It’s like Eva’s stylist says ‘Today you will be Glam Eva!’ or ‘Sexy Eva!’ or ‘Respectable Eva.’ Like a Barbie or those paper cutout dolls. The outfits are expected and boring and it doesn’t seem natural.

  • zenobar

Love that first dress, actually, matchy belt and all.  It’s Easter-ish in the best way.

  • Tamara Hogan

I love that lilac dress on her. I think clean lines and lack of futz is really flattering to her curvy figure.

    • http://profiles.google.com/denise.alden Denise Alden

Yes, and to her very petite figure:  she’s tiny, and she’s overwhelmed by most of her usual choices.  Clean and simple=chic (for her).

  • bitchybitchybitchy

I really like the brunch look-lovely color.  I’m not entirely sold on the evening look for the reasons listed by my fav uncles, but the color and bustline are good for Eva.
Our ladystars need this encouragement when they start moving in the right direction, after all.

  • MilaXX

I like both looks on her.
The first is a beautiful color and is appropriate for the occasion.
The second is good too. She usually does the tight mermaid cut so this is a small step up for her. I even like the center part since it’s not typically a part of her repertoire. in both looks the makeup is perfect.

  • OrigamiRose

The first look is making me antsy for spring to arrive.  Love the color sprucing up dreary January days.  I have a dress very similar to the second, though in the color of the first, so I am biased in loving that as well.

  • Annabelle Archer

La love the lilac. Sexy yet nearly demure. A scotch on the Barbie scale, but pretty.
I’m not feeling the second attempt, at all. Droopy, poochy, and puckery.

  • StellaZafella

    I don’t know…
Look one: Soap opera principle cast regular.
Look two: Soap opera principle cast regular at the daytime Emmy Awards.

Not bad, but I expect to see the Macy’s designer boutique tags sitting in the waste basket.

  • Monabel

Some very weird seaming on the bodice of the lavender dress. To accommodate a horizontal mini-breast?

  • librarygrrl64

That first look is lovely, head to toe. Orchid really works on someone with her coloring.

  • Lisa M. (ReVoir) Kramp

Inauguration festivities = subtle and pricey. Eva meets both with these low-lovely looks. Good on her!

  • Trisha26

Lavender dress is a pretty color, don’t like that her ribcage is protruding on the 3rd photo – that entire bust/bodice area is strange. The peach gown looks cheap to me – especially that flolippy thing in the back that looks like a limp shark fin.

  • FrayedMachine

The tan dress reminds me of the purple gown that Tina Fey wore (and looked dropped dead gorgeous in) but it doesn’t have the same wow factor. She’s a naturally gorgeous woman but all of this is kind of meh.

  • Peeve

For such a beautiful woman, she really doesn’t have a good sense of what looks great on her. I’ve always found her RC style really dull as well.

But damn, that violet/mauve/whatever color is fabulous on her! Buy (whoops, in her case, borrow) more of that color!

  • quiltrx

She’s always been so not-interesting to me…I can’t even work up the energy to hate her.

The first look is okay, and downright demure for her.

The second look…really expensive sheet draped into a dress.

  • nannypoo

I like the shape of the first dress, but really, that color is disturbing.

  • Anniebet

Well, hmm… I do like the color and shape of the first dress, but the bodice is doing her no favors (or vice versa). In the pic where she throws back her shoulders her bosoms flatten out. The little bit of detail below the bust is a bit clunky.

The evening look… all I could think of was “kangaroo pouch”.

  • http://twitter.com/foodycatAlicia foodycatAlicia

I do miss the fuggirls Widow Longoria posts whenever she steps out wearing a colour. She looks pretty in both of these but not memorable.

  • GorgeousThings

I like the fact that she ditched the hair extensions. She’s becoming an active voice for the Latino community, and I think she’s dressing for the Washington crowd here. She should keep doing so – she looks great.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000905542323 Rhonda Shore

The lavender dress was perfect for a DC brunch…big thumbs up for her.  Meh on the gown.

  • B_C_J

The first dress is very pretty. She looks feminine and lovely. The second dress is not flattering to her figure at all and the hair is just o.k.

  • RedRaven617

At least she doesn’t have cocker-spaniel hair.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_F73LIJ3SJGI5AJQMXMWXCKILHI Pamela

With that bod and her beauty if she can’t manage to look chic ALL of the time, she needs new gays.

  • sleah in norcal

the second dress is too tight if you ask me (and no one did, but i’ll tell you anyway).  the boning in the bodice is showing and the draping/ruching is looking the opposite of effortless (effortfull?)

  • http://www.facebook.com/carlos.reagan.1 Carlos Reagan

She did something weird to her face…she looks “chimpish” in the peach dress
