Emmy Rossum in Alice + Olivia

Posted on January 17, 2013

Emmy followed the KISS principle for this one, and thus, gets it all pretty much right.

Emmy Rossum makes an appearance on ‘Late Night With Jimmy Fallon’ in an Alice + Olivia dress.

Alice + Olivia Spring 2013 Collection

Bright, flirty dress; comfortable to sit in? Check. Pop of color shoe? Check. Cute earrings to punctuate, and just enough makeup so people can see your face? Check and check. Now, we get why she’d opt for the yoga class hair, because anything too polished could look try-too-hard with a glittery little figure skater dress, but even so. We kinda wish it was just a bit more polished than this because it’s a cute, simple look.

  • Best accessory: That smile!

    • Right? It’s like I was trying to criticise her hair in the close up and all my mind could elaborate was *aaawwwww*. She looks so charming.

    • Nonnah

1000% agreement!  It’s so nice to see a girl looking genuinely excited.

  • Lily-Rygh

I actually don’t even mind the yoga hair here.  I think she looks youthful and fun and excited to be there.

  • Kathy_Marlow

While I do like the hair, I think a blown out ponytail would have been a bit better. She looks great!

    • gabbilevy

Yup, that would have been perfect.

  • TDSE

Shameless is amazing, and easily one of my favorite television shows ever.

    • EveEve

Yes!  And this reminds me that I can’t wait for the next season to start already!  The baby’s gonna be dropping out of high school already if they don’t hurry up.

      • TDSE

        It started on Sunday!

        • EveEve

Thank you!  Between the Golden Globes and all the football hoopla being watched by certain other members of the household (ahem…) last Sunday, we completely missed hearing this.  So now we have something to look forward to watching *together* after I am finished watching PRAS tonight.

      •  it started last week!

  • kimmeister

Love, love, love the neckline.  Standing, the dress looks like it might be a bit big on her, but that way it’s not pulling too tight when she’s seated.  Well-played.

  • Tatiana Luján

I think I’ll never like those electric-blue suede platform pumps. The dress is great for a sitting interview.

  • Iam starting to like miss Emmy and her style a lot.

  • hyperionic

Her shoes seem pretty ugly… and they match the chair.

  • sablehunter

Adorable, but I can’t help thinking that she must be freezing!

    •  She does look cold – the second last picture she’s sort of huddled into the chair. She looks stunning though.

    • bluefish

No kidding — My first thought was, wow, cold!

  • JasmineAM

Adorable. I’m loving the dress and no it’s not just because it reminds me of the not-seen-since-2011 snow outside!! I feel like a little kid.

    • Kristin McNamara

Meanwhile, it makes ME feel like a little kid because the figure-skater comments TLo made about that dress remind me of when she played the cute figure-skating love-interest of the title character in the much-acclaimed (bahaha) Disney Channel Original Movie “Genius”. Ahh, the 90s. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Genius_%281999_film%29

  • Ugh hate the dress.  Judy Jetson on a skating date.

    • Fordzo

I was thinking Betty Rubble wedding dress.

      • Lily-Rygh

I know you both mean these as insults but I love both of those visuals so much that I can’t help but interpret them as compliments!

  • Fordzo

    She should have been Fantine.

  • Stubenville

…a glittery little figure skater dress  Yup.

  • Thanks for the acronym reminder, tlo! it is good for everything!

  • Sobaika

I really like the shoes but they blend in oddly with the chair.

  • sarah jacobs

This feels like the right proportion of skin vs covered up. Much better than the all sheer dresses shown so often of late.

    • No side boob, and not gyno length either!

  • Puck Thornton

She looks lovely, but the material of the dress looks like a white brillo pad.

  • mjude

    she is just adorable!

  • alyce1213

I can’t begin to say how much I dislike everything about this. The cheesy figure skating dress does nothing for her, nor would it for anyone. It’s another home ec project in a shitty, cheap-looking fabric.
When she sits down, her boobs sag!
Those shoes, the obligatory pop of color, simply do not work with this dress.
I normally like how she looks, but this is the pits.

  • MilaXX

I thought she hit a home run here. Even the yoga hair works because Fallon is a more casual environment.

  • greyhoundgirl

Here’s what I don’t get about fashion.  Is she absolutely freezing in that or is he absolutely broiling in the suit?  I get the gender politics of it, much as I may not like it.  It’s the practical info I’m wondering about.

    • kimmeister

      I’m guessing she’s absolutely freezing.

  • Little_Olive

She looks lovely, except she forgot her boobs (bra included) in her other dress.

    • whitrome

Not all of us have much to show off in that department. Our consolation? We don’t HAVE to wear bras.

      • sekushinonyanko

To be fair, Emmy Rossum, while not full on buxom, is not small chested either. In this dress she’s kind of flat, but really she isn’t. And boy can you have no question about the exactness of it with how topless she is in Shameless.

  • kat89

    She’s adorable.

  • OH MY GOD, why did this dress not exist when I got married? *sob*

  • EEKstl

I think she could have achieved a more polished hair look but still staying informal by less wispies and maybe some front strands hanging down as side interest.  I also wish she wore red shoes, somehow.  That all said, I think it’s pretty much working.

  • l_c_ann

    The dress sits well.

Maybe that needs to be a catagory for starlets and their stylists.

  • GorgeousThings

  • Sara__B

What do all of you see that I don’t?  I dislike everything about this look, except that she chose a good skirt for a sit-down interview.

  • I can’t help but wish for a belt.

  • Judy_J

    Cute and appropriate.  Nicely done.

  • veronkimo

Nope. I always find that the matter in which I disagree with you all the most is in the hair! The hair is fine!

  • Golfkat

What is KISS an acronym for? (K)an I Still Sit?

    • Keep it simple, stupid. 🙂

      • Golfkat

Right, ha ha 😛 I liked mine too to be honest. Although, it’s very specific to this situation. Thanks 🙂

    • Nicholas

      Keep It Simple Stupid. 🙂

  • Warrior89

    eh.  ice skating costume.

  • almondemy

Jesus, can she please sit up STRAIGHT though?  My god, girl.

  • Zippypie

Cute but wish the bun was low.  Like the shoe color and that fact that she’s not flashing her goods to the camera *coughLeaMichelecough*

  • Love this. Such a cute look!

  • margaret meyers

I dunno.  She looks a little “Holiday on Ice” to me.

  • Amy

Ever since I heard she said it was hard getting jobs because of her beauty, I didn’t want to compliment her appearance. Can’t say this doesn’t look good though!

  • I’m just so happy it’s not Anne Hathaway again! She’s very cute.

  • quiltrx

She’s one of my favorite stars in the limelight…she always looks comfortable with her self, and is always so luminously gorgeous.

And this dress is PERFECT for a sit-down gig…cute and flirty, but demure and classy at the same time.

  • kathrineb

Not the most flattering dress. I guess it’s passable.

  • peachy

yowza… dress is cute and flirty but TOTALLY the wrong color for her skin and hair. almost frightening!

  • Don Hackett

    what’s the KISS principle?
