I know nothing about menswear, but I think this looks amazing. Are the pants a bit too short?
He closed his mouth!
Both pants and jacket are a skosh too short. He looks like his mom bought the suit a month ago and then he had a growth spurt, and she said, “I don’t care, you still have to wear it to Junior High graduation.”
But it’s Hugo Boss, so unless it was a freebie, how do you not wear it?
He could have taken it to a tailor, though.
Love everything about this suit. Especially the fact that it’s brown velvet, my favorite. His facial expressions leave me wondering what the heck is going through his mind. He looks a bit bewildered, poor thing.
“His facial expressions leave me wondering what the heck is going through his mind. He looks a bit bewildered, poor thing.”
He’s an actor, so the easy answer is “Nothing is going through his mind”, but to try to be a bit more fair, he’s probably rehersing his impromptu comments for when he’s asked about Ann Hathaway winning yet again.
Nailed it I bet.
STAND UP STRAIGHT!! Oh my gosh I can’t even appreciate this look because his constant tiltage gets on my nerves so badly.
It’s to the point where I laugh and say “of course.”
We had a football cheer in high school…”A lean, lean, lean, lean…” and everyone would lean to one side. I cannot look at Mr. Redmayne without hearing that chant in my head.
I like that suit but he has to learn to stand up and give better face.
Yup. I really could stand for him to have a second expression for the red carpet.
Adorable – and I know I should be looking at the clothes but I find myself just staring at those gorgeous cheekbones. What a face.
He REEEEEALLY needs to work on his posture, and his pants might be a smidge too short, but I really like this look. Interesting, eye-catching, beautiful color and texture. Might have gone with a slightly different tie, but the fabric makes me want to touch him.
Mmmhmmm. Velvet, yum.
I’m not feeling it. I don’t find him as hot as it seems I’m supposed to, and I don’t like the brown velvet with black shoes (or at all, really), and the pants are too short.
I’m with you. He’s a bit too dorky for me…and not in a good way.
Completely agree. Usually I’m gaga for dorky Brit but he just doesn’t do it for me. And overall the suit looks a little small on him. The jacket pulls strangely.
I’m with you on the “I don’t get him” train. But since it is in fact a tuxedo, and he is wearing tuxedo shoes with it, albeit black ones, I will give him a pass. Besides where in this universe does one find brown tux shoes?
I don’t want to see brown tux shoes.
Hands/pockets. 8-( But the length is better. Maybe Hugo Boss is learning from Thom Browne?
Boy, get that dumb ass look off your face.
The suit is gorgeous and his hands are out of his pockets, but I still can’t get over the Hunched Back of Notre Redmayne.
Like the suit, don’t like the comb-forward on the hair.
I simply can’t stand the way he ‘does’ his hair. The way he brushes his left side forward drives me craycray.
I noticed that Ben Affleck’s hair, while somewhat shorter, was doing the same thing. Heaven help us…maybe Eddie’s started a trend!
Back a while, somebody posted that this hair is a “thing” among a certain subset of young men in London. Can’t say if that’s true or not, but if so it’s a darn shame. Also, kind of giggle-inducing.
I knew a lot of boys in school (but now we’re reaching back a decade or so) who liked that look, so it will always seem very schoolboyish to me. As in, wipe that smirk off your face young man, you’re still going to detention.
All Hail Caesar! Me no likey.
It’s like he’s doing bewildered duckface.
Dull and awkward.
Eddie or the suit? ; )
Eddie, the suit is fine.
I think he looks great, for the most part, and much less awkward than usual (GOOD FOR YOU, EDDIE), but those shoes look really cheap to me. I’m sure they’re not, but why wear cheap looking expensive shoes?
“why wear cheap looking expensive shoes?”
Maybe because they fit well and don’t hurt for standing for long periods?
Maybe, but I’m sure there are good looking comfortable shoes as well, which would have been the better option here, in my opinion.
1. Well-fitting and not hurting are qualities to be found in good-looking shoes as well;
2. They’re not here to be comfortable! See, e.g., all the women’s shoes on the red carpet, ever.
‘Cause the stylist handed them to you? And that’s as much thought as you put into it, since somewhere on somebody’s books you’re being charged for their expertise and it must exist if you’re paying for it?
I can’t see anything beyond the freckles and the lips. *sigh* #fangirl
Some minor quibbles (hand in pocket, the leaning) but a very sharp look. What I like about him is he’s not afraid to be different on the red carpet, and doesn’t just default to the black tux.
A bold choice in color & style. Love the Quadrophenia modness of the entire look.
Are the pants too short and the jacket too tight, or is it just me?
That is what I am seeing as well.
He has the weirdest face. But I’ll be damned if he doesn’t look good in a suit.
That’s some fashion right there. I get the sense that he wears these odd looks not to draw attention, but because they’re just what he feels most comfortable in. It’s working for me. In regards to the effort on a whole, not many could pull of a brown velvet suit, but he does with aplomb, all while proving that there’s nothing wrong with mixing brown and black in an outfit.
The hair is ridiculous though; makes Pattinson’s mop look sane.
Hands out of your pockets, young man!
Oh great. Next I’m going to be yelling, “Get off my lawn!”
He doesn’t do anything for me but I love his suit.
I’m such a sucker for a suit that isn’t brown, gray, or navy. This is a great one, and Eddie’s pulling it off nicely! Hallelujah, it fits!
Still with the stupid hair, but he seems to be slowly approaching vertical so that will be nice when it happens. The suit is lovely, but appears to be a smidge too small and I don’t like the shoes.
*IF* that happens. (deep mournful sigh)
It looks a skosh too small/short overall (jacket and pant cuffs especially), but this a is a great color and silhouette for him. His posture needs work here, though. Yes, I have become….my mother…
You have company.
Happy for the return of velvet suits!
Though they’ll be fleeting since so very, very few can wear them well.
More than look good in those shiny affairs, though.
When his hands aren’t in his pockets, they just hang there so weirdly, like meat on the end of a stick.
He looks like a marionette.
Yes, that’s it exactly!
Kinda works? I really like the velvet and satin contrast in the lapel, and I like doing brown, which is a little unusual … normal brown suits generally are a bit awful. But the jacket is a little too tight and the pants are too short. I can’t decide whether I like the black shoes but I don’t know what else you’d wear with a brown suit ..
I think the knit tie is too casual for a fancy evening event. This combo might have been a great dressy day look.
It makes me so sad that he thinks “mouth-breather” is a good look to use.
I really, REALLY like that suit. There’s something keeping me from really liking it on him. Not sure if it’s fit or body language – he’s not projecting the relaxed command of his clothing, he looks like he feels dressed up.
But if he’d revise that hairstyle and stand up straight he might go to the head of the queue of imaginary boyfriends. Might.
Well, his hands are out of his pockets *sometimes* and he’s keeping his mouth shut sometimes. Baby steps?
Hate so much brown, hate velvet on guys.
I think he’s adorable. Now if he would just stand up straight, and get the sleeves and pant legs lengthen just a skosh, he’d be almost a WERQ for me!
Suit is beautiful (although a skotch too snug), tie is just wrong – it lowers the look. I want to jab him in the lower back, tell him to stand up straight, comb his hair, and shut his mouth. He’d add about 100 virtual IQ points.
Love the suit, almost. First thing I’d do is fix those lapels, they look sad and are so shiny they cheapen the look. Then I’d ensure this guy never wears it again because he can’t carry it off.
Like George Costanza, Eddie just wants to be ensconced in velvet.
He is serving up some young Wilem Defoe realness
Is that fabric brown velvet or brown corduroy? Horrid.
OMG, it IS velvet! Sweet baby jesus on a cracker, that is a gorgeous suit.
But why does this man always look like a goober when he’s being dressed in such lovely clothes? He stikes me as a mouth breather.
He looks way better than he has ANY right to in a skinny brown velvet suit.
The brown tux is an interesting choice and it seems to fit him well…I kind of like it. I was all set to knock him for wearing black shoes with it tho, but then noticed he had a black tie, which I really like, and pocket square, so I’m giving him a pass on them, I guess…
i dont get his appeal but i like brown velvet suits
I still haven’t gotten over the proliferation of brown velvet from the late ’70s, so I’m not loving this.
And again with that hair. But he was very good in that movie.
Love the suit… the hair is still not my fav but it’s fun. He looks great and distinctive which is even better
We’re going to be looking at male high hair for the next 5-10 years, aren’t we? Ah, crap.
Slightly too short, but otherwise just about perfect.
He always looks the same somehow.
The suit/tux is pretty fierce. I don’t get the appeal, but I don’t deny that he looks great. Though I hate that it seems like his pants are a little wrinkled.
Perfection. He stepped up to talk to over-caffeinated Giuliana and I looked at my daughter and said, ‘now THAT’s a suit.’
He’s worn this one already, hasn’t he? In a different color? The boy sure loves his velvet.
He looks great and his hair isn’t all jacked up for once.
CLOSE YOUR MOUTH. EVERY PICTURE I SEE OF THIS GUY. CLOSE YOUR DAMN MOUTH. THAT IS ALL.
WRONG! Love the shot of the buttons on cuff. Eddie…your a big boy now ….You need to have ALL your cuffs have working button holes…ok? Got it?
You’re getting there, dear. Great suit. Let’s move away from the knit ties, though. Stand up…look confident! As always, love the hair. I kinda dig the “rental reminiscent” shoes.
I’m sorry, I think I blacked out there for a minute from his hotness….
STAND UP STRAIGHT! Aack. Otherwise, this is a very interesting look and I quite like it.
Love. Him. Love. This.
OH JEEZE DEAR MAN. You are attractive, slim, wearing kick ass clothing. WHY ARE YOU SLOUCHING?
he’s listening Tyra: smiiiize, smiiiize, smiiiize
Love the color and material, unique without being LOOK AT ME loud. Wishing for a different accent color, the black pocket square is totally lost on the brown suit and the tie seems like the wrong tie. Agree it’s too small, and agree his posture needs work, but he’s a unique looking guy rocking a unique looking suit and I find that interesting to look at!
Love everything but the face and hair. And hands. And posture.
his lips always look vaguely blue, like he’s not getting enough oxygen … which might also explain the blank face & the tilting posture
A brown velvet tuxedo? I like this. But…what’s the rule about sleeves on a gentleman’s jacket? They look a teensy bit short, no? Also, a missed opportunity with the pocket square–something with a subtle pattern (paisley?) with a tiny bit of cobalt blue would have elevated this a bit more.
Can someone please teach him how to pose?? The man is gorgeous but I cringe every time I see his slouched back and empty stare
Too skinny. Too short. Too smarmy. And yes, I’m talking about the suit.
