Britney Spears in LA

Posted on January 22, 2013

Honest to God, this may be the cutest, most stylish thing we’ve ever seen Brit wear:

Britney Spears shops in Thousand Oaks, California.

Obviously, we’re not talking about the difficulty of wearing haute couture here. And yes, we could go out in America and not have to walk too far before we hit a gal dressed like this, but the top is super-cute, everything fits her correctly, and she looks comfortable, both in body and spirit. If we didn’t know better, we’d swear she was strutting a little for the paps. This from a girl who consistently has the silent-scream face every time she’s on a red carpet.

We’re a little surprised her jeans fit so well. We would have assumed they’d be painted on, like a lot of her dresses. You go, Brit. This is stylish and cute.

  • File under “keep it simple, stupid.” Nicely done.

  • UglyTalents

I would wear that top. And that is not something I say about Britney’s clothes ever. … The poor woman. I hope she is feeling happy.

    • Sobaika

Hope so too. Maybe singledom suits her?

      • Rand Ortega

Remember the last time she was left to her own devices? There were tattoos, head shaving & lock downs in the psych ward if memory serves.

  • blogless

I just can’t get past that hair.

    • At least she *has* hair. Yays!

      We’ve come a long way, Britney! 😉

    •  I don’t love the hair, but it’s “running errands around town” hair, and we’ve all done it at some point.

    • Little_Olive

And the lack of it so far up her forehead :s

      • Deb_Lynn

ouch. that is her natural hairline. kinda harsh comment.

        • Fordzo

I was trying to decide if that was her natural hairline.  I don’t remember her having a widow’s peak before, and I couldn’t decide if it was a wig.

          • DeborahJozayt

It could be a weave, but if you look at older photos of her, she does have a widow’s peak.

          • Fordzo

Help me out…does a weave involve the front of the hair line (I’m trying to remember what I’ve learned from America’s Next Top Model, LOL)? I was thinking this looked more like a Beyonce lace front.

          • DeborahJozayt

If you look at the 2nd and 3rd photo down, you can kinda see her tracks. Weaves are usually just extensions sewn/glued into a series of braids close to the head. Some weaves involve the braiding of the entire head, which can create a new hairline. But you can also do partial weaves, where hair at the side and back of head are braided with extensions, then the hair on top of the head covers it.

        • Little_Olive

I don’t think so. As MIlaxx says, I think it’s a combination of weave abuse and processing. I don’t remember her having that hairline when she was younger.

      • MilaXX

Weave abuse will do that. You should see Naomi Campbell’s

    • Add a little braid, and she’d look like Legolas.

  • Joanna

the hair is a little tragic….but the rest looks great. Baby steps!!!!

  • SapphoPoet

Cute outfit. Her hair looks overprocessed, though.

  • Janet B

    Clothes that fit!

    • Monabel

Except for the triangle of belly showing….

      • But… is she wearing a cami? I can’t quite tell.

        • Kristin McNamara

No. You can see her bra right through her shirt, under her arm, in one of the photos. And in the third photo, you can see INTO her shirt because of the buttons spreading. Definitely no cami.

          • MikeW_Vegas

at least she’s WEARING a bra!

          • Kristin McNamara

  • Annabelle Archer

Please Tom, Lorenzo, please just find a way to kidnap this girl.  Kidnap her and teach her all about flattering fashion, natural hair, concealer and good shoes.  Guide her, find her some straight shooting girl friends, introduce her to non industry people who don’t want anything from her.  Encourage little moments like these and help her to be red carpet ready and day to day chic.  Please.

    • lovelyivy

Wouldn’t that be great? We all worry.

Even the South Park guys agree- their Britney episode is (I think- I don’t watch the show that faithfully) the one celebrity episode of South Park to ever show something like empathy and compassion for a celebrity and how the press treats them. You know it’s bad when even the South Park dudes couldn’t point a finger at anything but her clear misery.

    • Anna Vasquez

If there was ever anybody who needed to spend the summer with her two kind, stylish gay uncles…

    • ecallaw1977

And throw Lindsay in the back of the van too while you’re at it.

      • Annabelle Archer

Mmmmm. No. Blowhan and her crack shenanigans are her problems to solve. Miss Brit is, as we say in the South, a touch special. Bless her heart.

        • Little_Olive

I was thinking about that (sorry, work). They should study the reason why, after everything that has happened, we keep rooting for Brit Brit.

          • Annabelle Archer

I think with Brit, the speculations as to the causes of her issues  have ranged from Illuminati fembot with shitty (mind control) programming to chemically imbalanced hick from Louisiana.  Either way she appears to be more of a “victim” and the product of supreme stardom at a early age.
For all accounts, Lindsey is a girl who had a world of opportunity who has snorted, stolen, blame shifted, crack lied, and hit and runned her way to the bottom, rather willingly.

    She looks so…… normal. Attagirl!

  • The hair looks like Orlando Bloom’s in “The Hobbit.”

    • charlotte

You mean “Lord of the Rings” (nerd alert). But yeah, I see it, too.

    • That long blond hair on Orlando made my heart quiver in a way that his short dark curly hair never has.  Maybe the elven ears have something to do with it too….

      • RebeccaKW

Same here…I lust for Legolas, but have never found Orlando Bloom to be very attractive.

        • Fordzo

Gimli does it for me.  I like short guys.

  • 3boysful

I believe there might be a little fit issue with a gap at her bust (photo 3).  Am alert to it because I have the same issue.

    • Yes, and it is puckering under her arm. There is a reason she’s keeping her arms straight down. Go up a size!!

      • RebeccaKW

That might not help with the bust gap.  I get the same thing when I wear button-downs.  Even if I go up a size, I still get the gap, and then I deal with uncomfortable arms b/c the shoulders are too wide and don’t hit correctly.  I always wear a cami under, and I try to safety pin that area.  Designers need to add extra buttons in that area.

        • twocee

Yeah, I barely HAVE a bust and I get this problem far too often.  I swear most button-ups are just shirts that were designed for men and then shrank down to women’s sizes.

          • Natalie Bryan

YES! I have a small chest and still get the boob-gap in button downs. So annoying.

        • Rrroza

Fun thing I’ve noticed: Blouses in Italy have a much better button placement.
Helpful hint: The Hollywood line of Apparel Tape works great on blouse gaps. It’s basically a double-sided tape sized to fit between buttons. Long-lasting and doesnt damage fabric at all. Much less hassle than pins.

          • RebeccaKW

Ooh, thank you.  I will be getting some of that tape.  Thank you.

      • Fordzo

But, if she went up a size, it would cover her belly. Silly.

  • ChiliP

I’m not a fan of the boots, and I wish she had worn a cami under the shirt to prevent the gaping from the side, but she looks cute. Now, the hair….oh, the hair. Baby steps, Brit.

  • xmixiex

    the hair… it burns…

  • CT14

The top does not fit. In the third photo the gap between buttons is wide enough to see her bra.

But it’s much better than her barefoot in gas stations phase.

  • She looks adorable(!!!!!) and happy and I just got so excited for her.

  • Rand Ortega

Better than the fit of the clothes– The fact she looks like she (finally) fits her own skin.

  • xmixiex

I especially like the last photo.  candid, content, just doing her thing.

  • Her arms are looking incredibly toned, I’ll give her that.

  • Tatiana Luján

please tell me she isn’t wearing a paperbag instead of a handbag.

    • ankali

       Dude, she’s shopping. Come on.

  • Allison Harris

She looks so much thinner when she’s dressed like this, as opposed to when she crams herself into a tight dress. And since the girl is clearly fit, her stylist needs to take notice to this cute, casual look.

  • Puck Thornton

She looks comfortable. If only she would lay off the extensions and get good hairstylist to give her a flattering cut and warmer colour.

    • RebeccaKW

When I see her in brunette wigs, I can’t understand why she sticks with the blonde.  She looks so good with the darker hair.

  • teensmom99

Fit is everything.  I feel like she’s been released from having to be sexy & looks better for it.

  • mhleta

I really appreciate the spirit of this post and agree with it whole heartedly. I’ve been very frustrated with her in the past, and I’ve not been a fan of hers ever, mainly because she seems like she has no idea who she is or how to control her life or her career. It’s so good to see her looking happy and comfortable in her skin and clothes! I hope this is a trend for her. I really do.

  • ankali

She usually manages jeans pretty well, and those are cute.

  • Scott Isaacs

My God. Does she actually look…relaxed? Wow. Someone opened up a window and let a cool breeze of fresh spring air into her life. Even if for just a few pictures. I hope she lets this happen more often. It’s a breath of fresh air just to look at her like this. Well done.

  • you can see her bra, the top  needs a little ajustment…

  • Brigitte Todd

    Aw. She’s smiling.

  • Pants_are_a_must

Yes, if only she weren’t trotted out like a circus animal on those red carpets. I sincerely hope whoever’s making the decision to keep her in the public eye for as much money as possible is going to stop doing so.

I’m not in love with the top, but the jeans and boots are cute. Her poor hair, though.

  • Many years ago, if you asked me who’d come out fairly normal between Lindsay Lohan and Britney Spears, I’d have picked the former. Britney seems to be doing much, much better these days, and I’m oddly happy about that.

  • formerlyAnon

Can we take up a collection for some token reward? Positive reinforcement, you know.

  • We so rarely see her NOT look petrified, this makes me happy for her.  🙂

  • Bless her hair’s heart. It has yet to fully recover from 2007.

  • PrunellaV

Oh, god. She’s back to the crazy hair, though. I’m nervous for her.

  • Good for her, damnit! I can’t remember the last time I saw a picture of her looking put together and relaxed in the public eye.  I can’t imagine what her life must be like.

  • Holy! I didn’t even recognize her! She looks really cute. Not a whif of crazy in sight.

  • LLuL

She looks cute and happy. Keep it up, Brit! Next, put a cami under that shirt and add cute hair and makeup to the package.

  • Qitkat

I had a blouse from many years ago that was one of my all-time favorites. It also had the pin-tucking in the yoke like this one.
    So pretty! Blouse and Brit.

  • librarygrrl64

THIS is her wheelhouse. Casual, American, girl-next-door cuteness. Well done.

  • Judy_J

Almost everything fits well.  Her blouse is a bit too tight (definite gap across the bust and pulling under the arm), but still very cute and dare I say, wholesome.  She looks genuinely happy, which is nice.

  • jw_ny

Jeans that fit are so much more flattering than painted on ones.  I was walking behind a woman the other day…she being on the heavier side…her jeans fit her absolutely perfectly and looked really good on her.  I wanted to compliment her…but knew it would be inappropriate.  lol…

Love the look Brit  (except the hair)…strut your stuff when you’re feeling good!  🙂

  • Crystal

Britney! I love your jeans, lady! High fives!

  • greyhoundgirl

She looks like a normal person!  Yay!

  • Can’t wait for the Revenge recap(s)!

  • frannyprof

Ummm… I get that we’re happy Ms. Brit is looking normal for a change, but she wouldn’t be Brit if she didn’t show a little skin around the middle.

  • OrigamiRose

She looks good, and more importantly, happy.

  • She looks genuinely content. Yay!

  • Fordzo

Does she have a tattoo on the inside of her right wrist?  *Please, Goddess, don’t let her be cutting now.*

  • Imasewsure

She looks good and grown up. More of this!!

  • I think she looks like Dog The Bounty Hunter in drag.

  • MilaXX

You hit the nail on the head saying she looks comfortable & dare I say confident in this look It’s nice to see her like this.

  • pattycap11

    great look!

  • guest2visits

This does look like it suits her; not loving the hair but whatever… she looks cute.

  • She doesn’t look like she is dying inside and her jeans are perfect. That makes this a little werq for me.

  • Drew Macaulay

Getting rid of the fiancee/manager/guardian seems to have made her happy, and nothing looks better than happiness.  Love the top.

  • Lisa M. (ReVoir) Kramp

She looks terrific except for her overprocessed, tired out hair. Other than that, I’ve never seen her look nicer.

  • She has a thing for short boots, which I think always look bad on her. Also, that top not fitting so well. But yeah, MAJOR improvement over usual.

  • MissAmynae

May the happiest bra-sighting ever! She looks totally cute, I don’t really mind the hair. its casual, but not too messy, out of her face, and not yellow.

She looks happy, confident and comfortable.

  • Anathema_Device

White shirt and blue jeans always look great. It is refreshing to see her not barefoot in itty bitty cutoffs or whatever.

  • imakeart

Fits her?  Any girl with boobs was taught about the perils of “gapiosis” at an early age… maybe it doesn’t bother some people, but it does me!

  • ccm800

    No clenched fists of fear!

  • snarkykitten

I hope this means she’s getting help. She looks good! Basic, but her genuine smile goes a loooong way.

  • betorah

Okay, large meow here. Looking at the non-smiling photo of her with the bike. She’s got deeper nasal-labial folds than I do and I’m 58. Hate the short boots.

  • kathrineb

This is good…for her standards but that’s not saying much.

  • You know you have horrible fashion sense when people are happy you’re finally wearing clothing that fits.

She looks cute but that hair, yikes!

  • Now, if only she fixed the hair…

  • Minus the mullet hair, of course…

  • Alyssa Stanfield

Much improved for Brit! Those jeans are not what I picture her wearing, but they look great on her! Hopefully this is a first of many new improved outings!

  • melanie0866

Both pieces look a bit too small to me.  I can see her bra in the gaps between the buttons.

  • I’m incredibly distracted by what’s going on on her head.
