I agree with you – so stunning with her dark hair and eyes – I loved it.

        • Kiltdntiltd

Restrained, refined, and classy as hell.

          • bitchybitchybitchy

She knocked this one out of the park with this classic and elegant Chanel.

      • Introspective

i felt the dress was nothing special while i watched, but the pose here is creating a fierceness that i didnt pick up live. say what you want about annie–she can wear the hell out of clothes.

        • Kiltdntiltd

We’re all so used to, these days, our lady stars wearing wow factor dresses all the time. So when someone chooses quiet restraint, it’s often perceived as dull.

        • Sobaika

There was a cute moment during red carpet interviews where Amanda Seyfried said she’d been studying Anne Hathaway on the red carpet – she’s really learned how to pose.

      • Kristin McNamara

Kiltd, you know I love you, but you gotta get yourself a spellcheck, yo! ;)

        • Kiltdntiltd

Wait, you mean that’s not how its spelled?

          • Kristin McNamara

    • Sobaika

Very pretty but very boring. I’m assuming she’s holding back and waiting for the Oscars to fully unleash the HI FASHINZ.

      • Gayer Than Thou

Let me preface by saying I like it a lot, but it makes her look like a bobblehead.  And while I think she’s making the most of her Les Miz haircut, in the end I think she’s aiming for an Audrey Hepburn/gamine thing here, and gamine just isn’t her thing.  I score it very high, but just shy of perfection (with all due respect to @kiltdntiltd:disqus, above).

        • Heidi Maier

I am thinking this is entirely a matter of personal opinion because, to be honest, while I always thought Anne beautiful, I think she completely rocks the short hair — she does gamine gorgeously! For me, anyway. And I say that with no disrespect to you, Gayer Than Thou! I think she looks absolutely beautiful here. Elegant as hell! :)

        • Scott Isaacs

I have to say, I’m digging the Audrey Hepburn thing she’s got going here. I could see some casting kids tugging on the dress of their higher-ups and saying, “See? NOW do you see how she her potential? NOW can we get to going on that Audrey biopic?” And because I like reading WAAAY to much into situations like this, I wonder how much of this was calculated on her part.

Then again, maybe she just wanted to look pretty. Done and done, to the hilt. Very well done.

    • Coco Cornejo

She wears it well, but the color washes her out.

    • AnnaleighBelle

Meh.  I didn’t like what it did to her waistline.  The jewelry was beautiful.

      • John Spodick

I saw that too.  Rumor is she’s pregnant….if she is that is a nice way to cover up a burgeoning baby bump.

        • heartbot

I was assuming the fact that her form-fitting bodice was actually loose on her bony figure was a pretty loud and clear “NO I’M NOT PREGNANT CAN WE PLEASE TALK ABOUT MY MOVIE AND IMMINENT OSCAR WIN NOW PLEASE” message.

    • mjude

she looks great. i am still trying to figure out how in the hell i missed her win. i swear i barely moved from my chair!

      • Karen Maslowski

And her speech was one of the best of the night. Too bad you missed it!

    • Wendy Wetzel

      • Jessica Rowe

Wendy!  I thought the same thing.  And Hi from Baltimore!  Can’t believe you read TLO too!

        • PastryGoddess

          Did someone say Baltimore???

          • Jessica Rowe

            yeah I did!

      • Clueless_Jock

Yup. All she needs is a veil. Pretty though.

      • kschwarting

That was exactly what I thought when I was watching it last night.  She looks lovely, though.

    • Mismarker

      Pinhead atop a tampon.

    • Violina23

Nothing jaw-dropping, but I thought she looked lovely. Considering I’m pretty sure it was in her Les MIz contract to win the Oscar, I’m sure she’s saving it for next month… ;-)

    • Jessica Rowe

      welcome to my wedding.

    • f_yeah_marie

I like it, but it’s not memorable.

    •árez/100002964685796 Josefina Madariaga Suárez

She looks pretty, but the hair is a little bit Bieber-ish

    • marigi

She just got married, isn’t she tired of looking like a bride? Or maybe it’s the opposite: you want to look bridal for at least a year afterwards…

      • Deedles

She got married in a pale pink dress, so she probably didn’t think twice about this one being white. :)

    • Caitlin

Love, which surprises me. Wish the hair was styled a bit differently.

      • EditKitten

I’m with you on the hair. She’s had it done so much better with this cut.

    • pawtley

Keep thinking a necklace might’ve been nice, but the other jewelry works so well, and why mess with that clavicle (yes, clavicle)?

      • Mary229

The prominance of that clavicle is exactly why I ::would:: have put a necklace on her.

        • pawtley

It does want attention, doesn’t it?

      • DaringMiss

Exactly!  I kept thinking “Would it kill you to wear a necklace?”

    • RebeccaKW

Pretty, but I wish it was in a color.  I thought I was going to sprain my eyeballs from rolling them so much during her acceptance speech.

    • Mary229

It’s Ok.  I still like Anne and I was happy for her last night.  But she’s been so over the top lately that it’s turned me a bit sour on her.   I didn’t like it when she jumped in and tried to thank people she forgot when the entire cast/crew/director was up there getting their award.  Really didn’t like that.  But she’s a pretty woman and she was great in both this movie and as Catwoman this year.

      • Linda Merrill

Me too. I’ve been holding on to liking her in the face of her growing backlash, but that moment where she Kanye’d her producer was completely ridiculous. She’s clearly in the throes of Diva/Bridezilla time where it’s all about “me! Me!! ME!!”

        • Mary229

I’m gonna be totally honest..I would really love to know what Amy Adams (who, at this point, is on her 4th Oscar nom in 7 years and her 5th Golden Globe nomination) was thinking during that speech.  Particularly during the part where Anne talked about starting off as a Disney Princess and proving that you could break out of that box.  If I were Adams–who was arguably the best live action disney Princess ever…I would have been like…seriously?

        • DinaSews

She is heading down the ‘Taylor Swift’ path for me.  Trying to put on the persona but not really achieving that ‘who? lil’ o me?’ innocence.

          • WhiteOprah

I was thinking that she gave a total “Taylor Swift” speech.

            • charlotte

…that started out Liz Lemon-y: “Blerg!”

      • Melanie

To be fair, I don’t think it occurred to her to thank people she forgot until Jennifer Garner came out and thanked people on behalf of Ben Affleck.  But I agree that she should have just waited til the press room.

        • ChiliP

That’s true, although I thought Jennifer was thanking people for Ben as a cheeky way to allude to the fact that he wasn’t nominated for an Oscar and therefore wouldn’t have another “chance” to thank them (I realize there are other awards he was nominated for, probably a SAG award, but really it’s all about the Oscars). Plus, she made those comments prior to an award being handed out, so she wasn’t ultimately taking focus away from the winner. I thought what Anne did was really inappropriate, and by the producer’s response, I don’t think I was the only one. I haven’t been on the anti-Anne train- to be honest, I thought some of her over-the-top behavior lately was kind of hilarious- but I’m starting to roll my eyes every time I see her.

          • mshesterp

I agree, and didn’t lump J Gar’s adding a few people with AH’s idiocy–but then I find Garner to be adorable about 97%, so I’m biased.  Hathaway’s “finally, I’m getting my CONFIDENCE!” speech was slightly annoying, but making the group acceptance speech about her–SHUT IT.  Besides, Garner name-checked Clooney, which automatically makes it 100 times more awesome than whoever Hathaway tried to thank.  I like AH, but I’m with the rest…she’s a bit on my nerves.

        • Mary229

Two things:  Affleck having Garner do that was tacky but at least Garner was presenting and so it wasn’t drawing attention away from another award.  And you could see Garner felt really tacky about it.   Second, Anne jumping in there and doing it when the WHOLE cast and crew was with her was the epitome of bad taste.  I cringed.

      • Sobaika

I’ve always liked her but she has a tendency to be a bit EXTRA. That’s nothing new and part of her charm (remember when she did a rap about the paparazzi on Conan?) but seeing her practically everywhere this year and her inability to dial it down has become a bit grating. The ‘omigosh ME??’ reaction and reducing the producer’s allotted speech time was annoying.

    • cupcakemuffin

Somebody get that girl a steak, stat!

    • Dot

Something about this is really working for me. I still love seeing short hair on lady stars — it’s so refreshing in a sea of cockerspaniel locks.

    • Annabelle Archer

And would it have killed her to do a little something with her hair?

      • Sarah Caponigro

Did you want her to spike it or something?

        • Annabelle Archer

A dab of product perhaps? It was just a little limp considering she also had subdued make up, no jewelry to speak of and literally a blank canvas of a dress. Where’s the Huzzah! there Oscar contender?

But at least she wasn’t sporting the Halle/DDL overly coiffed coif, so I guess I’ll shut up. : )

          • Sarah Caponigro

Nah no need to shut up. The banter is nice. I just have no idea what she would do with it.

    • foodycatAlicia

Simple, elegant and gorgeous. A little bit bridal though? I assume this means her Oscars frock is going to be HUGE.

    • Puck Thornton

Beautiful hair and makeup. On tv this outfit looked very unflattering, it made her look much bigger than she is. I like the structure of the fabric, but this is not her colour.

      • littlemac8

Agreed, from any angle other than straight on,  the way the bandeau top released was unflattering.  However her hair and makeup looked great and she looked very pretty.

    • Pants_are_a_must

This is a “serious actress GIMME MY OSCAR” look if there’s ever been one.

    • Diana Giese

Love this. And loved it even more after finding out it was Spring 2009. She looked effortlessly fabulous.

    • Susi R

I would have liked it more in a different color.

    • colleenjanel

This was rather boring compared to her recent fashion statements. Also, there seems to be a jacket that she chose not to wear on the RC or on stage. It can be seen in the background of the scowling pic of Tommy Lee Jones that’s going around the internet.  I would have liked to see the jacket, if it was indeed part of the ensemble.

    • colleenjanel

I agree … maybe an azure blue, or a deep shade of green? (hmmmm… this isn’t showing up as a reply to Susi R, who said she would have liked a different color)

    • chylde

Gad, it’s just a supporting actress award. Big damn deal. I like her on SNL, but she’s sort of annoying otherwise. FAR more annoying than Lena Dunham, who is a down to earth delight. Ahem.

    • MilaXX

It’s fine, not mind blowing.  Not the best of the night, but not the worst either.

    • Glam Dixie

Her actual wedding dress was so unattractive that maybe she wanted a do-over? Wish it had at least a bit of color to it and she needs a little jewelry but you can’t deny she looks lovely.

    • Fyolette

it has style to it, but feels too understated for Golden Globes – maybe she’s just tired of this string of discussable/’out there’ outfits?  And it feels like the award season should be very exhausting. Still, a bit too forgettable for the second most important event in what is supposed to be ‘her year’.
And I like that they are updating her hairstyle every week, but this current edition is just not working for me – compared to the fabulous only last week or so

    • snarkykitten

      • OrigamiRose

    • jw_ny

I’m not crazy about the dress and color, but she does look quite striking.

    • warnerave

      this is so underwhelming…

    • Maluca

I like it but I was expecting more from her.

    • Jessica TallGirl Freeman

Polished perfection. I’m thinking the Oscars gown is when she’ll bring the cray.

    • Lynn Landry

I’m always happy to see short hair! I think she looks great, but the dress is kinda boring.

    • alyce1213

It’s not exciting or wowee in any way, but it’s flawless and elegant.  I’m not always a fan of what she wears, but I can’t find anything wrong with this; she is perfect for this dress.  (I don’t see this as bridal; it’s white, but it’s not bridey.)

    • jennmarie19

She looks lovely but dear God, what an awful acceptance speech. And then she piled on by cutting off the producers! For shame, Anne.

    • afabulous50

      Whiteboard?  Seriously??  She looks stunning.

    • Imasewsure

I really liked this one. White dresses can be so boring and I thought the structure of this one made it more interesting and decidedly not bridal which is interesting since so many here think it’s totally bridal…

    • Dino Bonačić

    • kimmeister

I don’t like the boxiness of the bodice.

    • l_c_ann

Love the dress and it fits her wonderfully.

Forgive me, but I see Donald Trump’s comb forward in her bangs.

    • viridian61

Those are some pretty big diamonds in that jewelry.

    • Magdalena Monzerrat Ontiveros

      not too impresive!

    • Ayana

    • Jillaine13

She looks fine but is obnoxious as hell.  I’m counting the days until the Oscars, maybe she’ll take a vacation afterwards.

    • jenno1013

Second marriage wedding dress for 40-something MILF.  Ages her.  I do like her jewelry though.

    • Ayana

It’s…nice. But I have to admit, I’m simply over all things Hathaway.

    • MarissaLG

      Absolutely stunning.

    • Mazenderan

I think she looked chic and managed to avoid bridal – whereas Amanda Seyfried’s white dress veered into definite bridal.

There’s something about the simplicity of the dress and haircut that demands attention.

    • VioletFem

      Clean, simple, and elegant.

    • Sarah Caponigro

Perfect Make up. Perfect Hair. Did I say perfect make up? Love it. Simple and Elegant.

    • mznormann

      Beautiful!!! She’s really stunning!

    • crash1212

Perfect. Everything is perfect. She will be very pleased to show pictures of this event to her grandchildren. She looks beautiful and girl can work a red carpet pose. Also, loved her acceptance speech tribute to Sally Field.

    • shelley514

Pretty and highly functional for the evening.  Nothing to get excited about though, but she sure can wear a frock.  Rihanna had this same short hair cut and style about 6 years ago.

    • Aidan B

Loved it. Fits her like a glove and you can tell she loves the way she looks in it.  Makeup is perfection as always, and I dig the hair. Would have loved to see a statement necklace, but that’s really my only complaint.

    • EEKstl

I love this but wish she’d worn more “important” earrings, a la Julianne Moore.

    • siriuslover

I’m surprised they got any red carpet pictures of her, she arrived so late.

    • BrooklynBomber

Nice gown. Looks like she’s been living on oatmeal paste in preparation.

    • Zippypie

Boring but pretty.  She looks waaaaaaaay too skinny.

    • marilyn

She looks like she needs a blood transfusion.  Everything was great but the color of the dress.

    • peachy

Simple, but not sweet, just simple. i do wish she’d chosen a different (read: less bridal-y) color. nonetheless, well done, o’ Princess of Genovia.

    • Emily Smith

I loved this.  I thought it was beautiful in it’s simplicity.

    • fringebenefit

It would not be possible for any red carpet to hold more exquisteness than this. Flawless and transcendent.

    • StillGary

Very very nice, but I agree she’s saving the big un for Oscar. I hope it’s not white.

    • MaryanneGirl

I wanted to love this, I really did. She looked very pretty, the makeup was clean and lovely…but I’m bored. If this is HER role and HER year, then freaking DAZZLE US!

      • BrooklynBomber

I think this speaks volumes. Its (relatively) understated “simplicity” says “I’m so confident I don’t have to scream for attention.”

        • MaryanneGirl

And I just obviously disagree. I didn’t say she needed a huge ballgown or anything that would make her “scream for attention.”  There’s nothing wrong with white, and there’s beauty in simplicity. However, her skin tone almost matches the fabric, and I feel (in my opinion) that a statement necklace would’ve sent this over the edge to being spectacular.

    • CassandraMortmain

Elegant and chic.  And I suppose it’s progress that she didn’t show up in a trash bag while flashing her good china.

    • Merneith

    • Sara__B

Yawn. Pretty and polished, but so dull.

    • meebs

      She looks great.

    • Nikki

    • mmc2315

      Short hair really suits her!

    • BookManFilm

i love this girl, a genuine talent, but she came across as an emotionless fake robot last night. awful.

    • Call me Bee

So love this on her–and the hem is absolutely perfect.  She was stunning.  And did you see her hugging Amanda from the back on stage?  Looked a little awkward….

    • Ass Kicking Adviser

I am not a big white dress fan, but this was perfection. The way it moved and the way it fit her. She was chic on a stick – left most the others in the dust.

    • kalisa

I hate how this dress makes her look like an architectural column. And I like her hair better when it’s all piece-y.

    • marlie

Gorgeous – just about flawless. It’s classic and elegant.

    • Eovaai

Boring. This was the perfect opportunity to wear a statement necklace. As it is, I find the whole look very dull.

    • Sara Collins

I’m just glad she’s smiling like a normal human being again.

    • librarygrrl64

I feel like it’s too mature/matronly for her.

    • libraangel

I- never- thought- that- I- would- type- in- that I thought Annie looked pretty chic. I wondered if the white would wash her out, but to my surprise, no. My only complaint is that I would have had long silver earrings on.

    • Lisa M. (ReVoir) Kramp

As I discovered with my wedding dress, when you’re very fair and dark eyed, you can only rock a super-white dress that makes you look rosey and lovely. She’s stunning.

    • enchanted216

Very pretty.  Maybe she’s saving the ‘Ummphh’ for Oscar…

    • pookiesmom

She’s just so beautiful. I’m a little sad that the mighty TLo didn’t voice their opinions on this look, given all the Anne Hath coverage. I’m curious what they think!

    • glennethph

      She looks like Casper.

    • Jennifer Hammond

Loved the hair and makeup (Full discloure alert: my own haircut is quite similiar, so maybe I’m slightly biased), but the dress does nothing for me. It’s not awful; it wasn’t good or bad. It was just not too exciting.

    • Mandy Mershon

Lovely but this was more bridal than her bridal gown.

    • bertkeeter

Loved it! But Karl…why go to the trouble two make it a two piece gown…?

    • Vera

So  simple yet cute.  Wonder if she will let her hair grow out?

    • quiltrx

She looks gorgeous…but I’m afraid she’s a few weeks away from me thinking she needs to eat a sandwich or three.

    • formerlyAnon

If  she had the perfect necklace (not saying I know what that would be) and this would be a WERQ.

    • Victoria Weinstein

I don’t think the top does a thing for her, but she’s amazingly good at posing.

    • Frank Lithium

Alright, alright. I do find her somewhat annoying, but it cannot be denied that she looks gorgeous in that dress.

    • Damien W

      “OIL CAN! OIL CAN!”

Her puppies must have been crying in pain all night. If she is going to harp on how she broke away from Princess Mia Thermopolis, she shouldn’t be dressing up like Audrey Hepburn so much.

      • OrigamiRose

        Hear, hear!

    • RzYoung

Love the bonus Don Cheadle in the background.

    • bluefish

Best look of the night.  A beautiful dress — is it two piece? — and she looks fantastic in it.

    • neofashionista

too me she looked like a little boy the whole night

    • Melissa Brogan

I know it’s the fault of the lighting and photography, but the gown is so blindingly white that parts of it are actually blown out in these photos and I can’t see the detail all that well.

I’m tired of bridal ball gowns on the red carpet. Plus if ever a silhouette was desperately in need of a necklace, this one is it.

    • guest2visits

She looked beatiful and the fabric was fantastic; but I wish the top had a peplum or a couple of inverted pleats; just for interest,
and to keep it from looking too boxy.

    • Don Hackett

her naked neck and the plain bare neckline cry out for diamonds at the throat.  yeah, she looks stunning and it’s a beautiful gown, but i am so tired of white dresses i ‘m about to throw up.

This is absolutely STUNNING! OH MY GOSH! Perfect!!!!

    • kathrineb

She really rocks the short hair! She has the features for it.

    • friscogal

WERQ! But please eat something, Anne.
