Oof. Do not go for a backless dress when you have a wire dangling down your spine…

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/Mary-Stone/100001328135240 Mary Stone

…and when you have to perform sitting down in it.  It’s gorgeous if a bit awkwardly draped from the front, but goes straight to fuglyville (bypassing tackytown altogether) when viewed from the back.  It gaps most unattractively when Alicia sits down as well.  Too bad, the color is fantastic on her.

        • shelley514

LMAO at fuglyville and tacktown!!! Must use those!

      • MoHub

Looks as if she’s got some kind of weirdly placed catheter.

    • http://twitter.com/Eovaai Eovaai

Nice in theory, but it’s baggy on her and with the exposed wires down her back it’s not a great idea.

    • capybara_cafe

She’s beautiful, but the dress does nothing for her. It even makes the model look thick wasted, and the elastic look at the neckline makes it look cheap and matronly.

    • http://www.facebook.com/aboutelle Ashleigh Boutelle

      meh

    • RocknRollmom

Other than FLOTUS, this was my favorite gown of the evening.  Absolutely stunning.  Thank you for letting me know who it is.  And I will now take back some of the “meh” reactions I often have to Mr. Kors’s designs.

    • HomeOfficeGirl

Wow!  Amazing!!  That dress really flatters her already amazing figure!

    • gloriana232

It’s OK, but the gather at the front just doesn’t hit the right place. It’s higher on the model and hides the bagging.

    • Funkykatt

      Grandma dress from the front.

    • MissAmynae

I love this as performance wear. As a regular “red carpet” dress, meh. but between the red and the way that skirt flows down the bench, just lovely.

      • understateddiva

Yeah, as a pianist I know it’s not easy to find a dress that you can sit and move properly and comfortably in, yet still look good.  This is a really good choice for the occasion, even though it’s not really ground-breaking fashion.

        • MissAmynae

Yes! Finding formals for my vocal performances is a pain- the whole breathing thing gets in the way, plus it has to be modest for churches, yet stylish for a club. I love it when a pianist wears something with a beautiful back!!!

        • http://profile.yahoo.com/SPQUIFOLYE24S3UAHBHTQOUFJQ Emily

I get how this might allow for proper movement, but as a pianist, I would never be comfortable in a backless/bra-less combo. Then again, maybe she didn’t feel she needed that much support for this song. Also, I think the front gets all bunchy and weird when she sits down. From the waist down, though, this is perfect.

    • Mazenderan

The colour is nice, but the shape does not flatter her figure at all.  It’s not structured enough, and that tail detail at the back is weird.

      • 3boysful

         Ditto on the tail thingy.

    • jonnyf8

She never fails to bore me.  Pretty girl, talented etc. but just not very interesting and that dress is meant for a drag queen 3 times her size.

      • jonnyf8

        Specifically Latrice Royale

        • http://twitter.com/stellaphone Stella Zawistowski

She’d lipsync Aretha like nobody’s business in that look.

    • Lisa M. (ReVoir) Kramp

She’s unbelievably lovely and the look is appropriate for the venue. That said, it’s pretty standard and makes her look very large.

    • Rand Ortega

Gorge. Demure yet sexy (from the back). Great color on her. Hair, accessories, makeup– Flaw. Less.

    • gabbilevy

The backlessness looked weird sitting down.

    • MilaXX

lose the bracelets and for pete’s sake, stop singing that awful song

    • muelonil

I like the dress in the model pic and I really want to like it on Alicia but…it’s just not doing it for me.  I like the booty rouching, but the fit is off and the backless was not a good choice. Plus for some reason, as Nina might say, it doesn’t look expensive.

    • e jerry powell

Except for the audio cable, it’s a good look for sitting down and playing the piano.  Not much else.

I will add that, as a celebrity, I’m kind of pleasantly surprised that she actually went with a fall 2012 look instead of chasing after a designer to get something from next month’s shows.

    • ojosazules

I think she looks beautiful. “Awkward” is usually the word I would use for her fashion, so this is fabulous.

    • http://phantomminuet.blogspot.com/ MinAgain

The shape of the dress doesn’t even flatter the model.  Enough said.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_5UQHEKG5EDX4T6NMARUC565TPQ Amy

Iceskater. Way to drop the ball, Kors!

    • alyce1213

Isn’t that ruching treatment supposed to give the illusion of narrowing the waist?  This Kors dress doesn’t do that — both the model and Alicia look wider in the middle.  And is that a tail cover in the back? I don’t like it.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_OQG2B3GDOIKSFYT6YDXFVOMEM4 A. Lure

Horrible. It’s certainly not for a curvy girl (it’s not for a thin girl, either). There are too many design elements– the knotting at the waist, the shirring at the backside, the flounce at the back– none of which are flattering. Why contour the waist that way? It looks as if that knot is there to prevent someone’s entrails from spilling forth. Don’t get me started on the tail. Oh, and the fabric looks tacky– not the color, but the sparkles. It’s bad, all of it.

    • nannypoo

I’m surprised at the negative comments about this. She looks just fine.

    • http://twitter.com/stellaphone Stella Zawistowski

So unnecessarily matronly from the front, and so not right for a microphone on the back. It’s not awful, but it’s not great either.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=790818401 Laurie Landry

All business in the front and party in the back.

    • http://asskickingadviser.com/ Ass Kicking Adviser

I doubt she knew about the wire down her back when she picked this dress.
I think she looks pretty and chic. It’s a little big. It’s a little matronly. But her hair and make-up look wonderful. Pretty girl.

    • unbornfawn

It is a great dress on the model. It fits all kinds of wrong in the front on Alicia.

    • myristica_fragrans

fishtails suck on everyone. other than that, she looks nice.

    • barbarienne

Genug with the covered up to the eyeballs in front with the bare back.

Jeezum crow, designers, Diane Lane wore a covered-front-bare-back dress in the last scene of Streets of Fire almost thirty frigging years ago. And it fit her as poorly and gaped as badly as this does on Ms. Keys.

    • betorah

1000 points to barienne for using genug. That’s what we always told our dauschund when he wanted more food.

    • teensmom99

Is this an homage to Nancy Reagan?

    • julesj

While standing, she’s got a thick bunch of cloth in her left hand. Not a great look. Unlike the model, she can’t move without holding up the dress. This was not thought out…plus, the dress is too big and makes her look matronly. And the wire along her back…no.

    • http://profiles.google.com/adj.blair Adriana Blair

I guess we shouldn’t expect any more Revenge recaps? Oh well…

    • In_Stitches

It doesn’t even flatter the model…the ruching hits the top of the pelvis and draws the eye from there to the widest part of the ribcage, obscuring the waist instead of highlighting it.  It looks better than it has a right to, but it has no right to look better than horrendous.

    • ghopping

It looks like she tied a sweater around her waist… that dress is not working.

    • kathrineb

I’m not a sequins, bing or glitter person, but this seems to work fine as a performance dress.

    • Jill Morino

God damn! That looks horrible on her from all angles!

    • http://www.ellenciompi.com/ NurseEllen

Not loving this, although I love her.

    • Allison Woods

Aight. She would have known about the wire because that is not a mic, that is for in-ear monitor speakers, which are an option for a performer. In other words, her choice, so she would have knwn that in advance. That said, that dress, and that hair do girlfriend no favors.

    • Fordzo

The color looks amazing on her. I need to see her standing up straight before I really judge the fit.

As for the wire and the open back – she performed for how long, 10 minutes, tops? The majority of the night she didn’t have that wire (unless she’s in the Secret Service now?).

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Josefina-Madariaga-Suárez/100002964685796 Josefina Madariaga Suárez

It’s a pretty dress and she looks cute (enough), but it has “Michelle Obama” written all over.

    • http://kingderella.tumblr.com/ kingderella

its not perfect, but i think she looks quite good, all in all.
      the wire looks unprofessional.

    • mhleta

Good from the front, not so great from the back. She needs a foundation garment under this. Plus the shirring and train adds bulk to her rear, which she doesn’t need.

    • greyhoundgirl

      Too much dress.

    • TRSTL

I love her and her style most of the time but I am thinking this was a lot of bulky dress for sitting at the piano.  It appears very bunched up in the one shot.  But still loved her performance….

    • elleg929

To quote Michael Kors, “She pooping fabric.”

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=603005248 Jeff Warhurst

Kudos to her for wearing a respectful gown.

    • OrigamiRose

I am going against the grain, I thought she looked lovely.

    • Little_Olive

Hugs her in all the wrong places.

    • quiltrx

It’s really pretty, but seems a waste to sit on all the gorgeousness in the back.  And I wish the front neckline wasn’t so high.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_VZLU6YVO4BRTELTTH3GRAAMWZQ Dot

Beautiful concept for a gown and very appropriate for the occasion. However, it is really not executed all that well. She should have had it better tailored to fit her, particularly with regard to the length. And surely she could have rigged up that earpiece wire better. The dangling wire ruins the whole look from the back. Also, the fabric also reads a bit chintzy to my eyes– it doesn’t look expensive, at all and strikes me as a bit figure skater-ish.

    • Alyssa Stanfield

Pretty dress on the model, something looks off on her. I don’t think this is a performing dress…

    • http://twitter.com/PhDKnitter marlie

Alicia is a tiny little thing, and this dress makes her – and the model on the runway – look a little thick around the middle. I want to like the dress, but there’s just something OFF about it.

    • Imasewsure

Beautiful color on her and appropriate for the event, if a little bit matronly and dull

    • Kristy Evans

Do not like. The neckline is weird, and the train looks like a horse’s tail. Weirdly unflattering. And definitely not appropriate for playing the piano or wearing a mic. I like her jewelry, though.

    • Lily-Rygh

Between the fabric and the bracelets, I half expected her to break into a rousing rendition of “Little Girl From Little Rock.”

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=535548244 Kim Baker Vidas Davey-Irvin

that last photo will inspire any number of right-wing conspiracy pages to ruminate on the possibility that obama is now controlling his minions electronically.

    • guest2visits

Very pretty imo, inspite of the wires.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=739853946 Brownie Kirby Charles

Back-view is beautiful, from the front, she looks like there is no waist.

    • Rebecca Jay

      Cheap and tacky looking.
