Zac Posen Replaces Michael Kors on Project Runway

Posted on December 18, 2012

You heard us.

Mr. Press Release:

“There is no “I” in “TEAM” but there is in “FASHION!” Project Runway’s Season 11 returns with a twist that throws 16 eager designers into a panic when they discover they will be participating in the series’ first-ever TEAMS EDITION, premiering Thursday, January 24, at 9pm ET/PT. This season, the controversial “team challenges” are taken to a whole new level when the designers must work together for every challenge while ensuring their own garments stand out on the runway to host and judge Heidi Klum, Marie Claire’s Fashion Director Nina Garcia and featured judge, award-winning fashion designer Zac Posen. The game-changing new element will push designers to work collaboratively but who will be a team player and who will throw their teammates under the bus? Tim Gunn, will, once again, serve as the mentor to the designers, as they sew their way to New York Fashion Week at Lincoln Center where Michael Kors will serve as the finale guest judge.

Project Runway’s 11th Season also features guest judges from the world of film, television and music including the legendary Bette Midler, Oscar® winner Susan Sarandon, country music sensation and Grammy® Award winner Miranda Lambert, Grammy-winning singer songwriter John Legend, red-carpet fashion experts Joan and Melissa Rivers, Emmy Rossum, Kristin Davis, Jordana Brewster and designers Rachel Roy, Tracy Reese, Chris Benz and Project Runway winner Christian Siriano.

Lifetime will also air the special Road to the Runway prior to the premiere at 8pm ET/PT as an introduction to the new designers. Hosted by Marie Claire’s Zanna Roberts Rassi, the special will also feature commentary from Project Runway All Stars winner Mondo Guerra and designer alum Laura Kathleen.

As part of the winner’s prize package, this season’s victorious designer will receive $100,000 from L’Oréal Paris to start his/her own line, a fashion spread in Marie Claire magazine, a 2013 Lexus GS 350, a $50,000 technology suite by HP and Intel to create his/her own vision and run his/her business and the opportunity to design and sell an exclusive collection at Lord & Taylor. The model paired with the winner of Project Runway will also appear in the designer’s Marie Claire editorial feature and receive $25,000 from L’Oréal Paris EverStyle.”

Discuss, darlings. We need to come up with a royal nickname for Zac, since he’s replacing The Duchess. We propose The Dowager Countess, just to be bitches about it.

        • Kenisha Hill Phillips

          • drdarke

I think it’s time to cast Tim Gunn as a dapper gay FBI Agent hunting down serial killers….

      • librarygrrl64

All I did this time (including All Stars) was follow it here. And that was sufficient. I will continue with that, but I may have to head to to see what Bette and Susan have to say. 😉

    • carpediva

Okay, I replied to yours in error, so edited to say that your comment is very funny. 🙂

  • Cristian Valenzuela

I’m sad about Michael Kors leaving. I love his one-liners. And he’s the funnest judge. And pretty spot on with many of his observations.

    And ZAC POSEN? Love Him.

    • All team challenges reduces the show to the one thing I can’t stand about it most.  Tons more reality show bitchery, tons less creativity.

      • j_am

        • drdarke

          Thirded  – !

          No – Fourth-ed – !

No…. Okay, just tack me onto the end of this one, concurring that team challenges are everything I hate about PROJECT RUNWAY anymore.

      • PuttyGalore

         This, so much this.

      • not a pretty site

      • Violina23

THIS. Exactly.  I don’t know enough about Posen as a personality to really have a judgement, but it’s like they keep stripping away the reason us enthusiasts still watch….

If they really cared about the quality of the show:
        1) One, Maximum two, team challenges a season.
        2) Go back to 1 hour and focus on the clothes, not the sob stories & catfights
        3) Cast people who are interesting without the manufactured drama.
        4) Bring back 2-day challenges. I want to see what they can really DO, and when it becomes a contest to see who comes up with the most passable train-wreck, it’s a disservice to both the designers & the viewers.

        • Team challenges also up the bullshit quotient of the judging: it’s alway either “You should have stood up for your vision,” when they only had 30 minutes to plan and seven people with personality disorders to deal with or it’s “This was a team challenge,” when the rest of the team was doing something stupid and ugly. I hate it.

          • muzan-e

More than that: it allows the judges – I mean producers – I mean judges – AHAHAHA, no, I mean producers! – to select winners with complete subjectivity.

Is the celebrity – I mean designer – performing well with the viewing audience this week? Then his poor design is just the result of a poorly-led team; someone else goes home! Is the designer – I mean celebrity – performing poorly with the viewing audience this week? Get the AUF, darling, for while your garment is delish it just doesn’t mesh well with the collaborative effort and where were you when your team-mates were struggling?

Which is just a long way of saying that they’ve veered directly into territory where ANTM once reigned supreme.

          • VicksieDo

More scenes like Gretchen and the beige collection.  That was pretty hilarious, but not for a whole season…

        • Cautiously Pessimistic

#4 would get me to watch the show again.  It’s more expensive, sure, but the things produced in two-day challenges in earlier seasons were a big part of why I started watching in the first place.

          • I agree.  They give them so little time to make anything that I’m just never wowed by the runway show.

        • Chris Baker

Exactly. (Although I do enjoy the 90-min show.). Team challenges are total BS. I also hate the “shop at the Lego store and see what you can make” challenges.

          • drdarke

I guess they have to work that product placement in somehow, @yelocab:disqus ….

      • Nancy Karpen

I hate the team challenges. Oh well.

      • Thomas at My Porch

        You are so right.

  • Can you shorten it to “dow cow”?

    • kimmeister

Eek, that sounds a bit like the famous concentration camp, Dachau.

  • I thought ZP was never really liked by the BKs all those times he was guest judge, not very useful or effective…?

Babyface Princeling? I dunno. Heir to the Tan?

    • Kenisha Hill Phillips

I can get on with Princeling.

    • AthenaJ

heh heh I like Heir to the Tan

  • PS He looks fabulous in that photo…

    • makeityourself

I havent paid much attention to Zac lately, but seeing this picture it looks to me like he pulled a Marc Jacobs and had a complete makeover.  He’s quite sublime now.

  • DC might be a bit too fabulous…we’d have to see if his wit is equal to Dame Maggie levels.

All teams challenges. Well, I’m sure they think that will stoke some drama. Unfortunately the team challenge episodes were always my least favorite. We’ll see how it goes.

  • Scarlet39

I’m sad to say this, but I think this is the end for PR.

    • Introspective

i thought the same. it has jumped over the shark and off a cliff. PR is now bottom feeding on its own carcass.

      • mike__tv

It has jumped over the shark and off a cliff and threw itself under the bus. Yes, THAT bus.

        • Funkykatt

It has to do something new because it’s been drowning.

    • abmjem

This:PR::Social media and all new judges:ANTM. The show was already spiraling and I agree that this is likely the final nail in its coffin.

    • MissMariRose

Yep. The all team challenges idea is PR’s version of a leather-jacketed man waterskiing and Zac Posen is their Cousin Oliver.

  • Glad I got out when I did. I don’t care about Kors (though I would have expected Tim to leave first), but the new structure is stupid and limiting. Designers’ aesthetics aren’t reliably represented in team challenges, and eliminations are always a little unfair.

  • Violina23

Ugh, it’s almost like they are daring me to stop watching….

  • StellaZafella

    The C*ntessa de Poser.

All teams is a rip from another fashion/runway reality show…I may just be lost to this now…finally.

  • f_yeah_marie

Wow, all team challenges?  I can’t decide if that’s a good or bad thing.  Is it the same teams every week or would they switch it up?

  • hillmad

How many times can one show jump the shark??

    • mike__tv

To get to the other side.

    • bitchybitchybitchy

PR  has seemed  determined to jump that shark as often as possible since Season 8.

    • dgh

Since they seem to be casting sharks instead of designers, I’d say the opportunities are limitless. Until, of course we all live up to our dudgeon and really do stop watching. I’ve been swearing off this stupid show ever since ol’ whats-her-name won back in 1887.

  • EverybodysStarling

Love Michael, love Zac even more.

    Hate team challenges.

  • I believe Mr Kors is now the Dowager Dutchess. Mr Posen should be the Duaphin. Or Princeling.

  • MilaXX

I read this earlier. Apparently they filmed  seasons 10/11 back to back. I can deal with the orange one not being there, but team challenges is just a recipe for disaster.  I foresee one ugly design after another with the occasional bit of pretty.

    • Jordan Brodley

we’ll note that the press release says “featured judge” not “new judge.” It may be a one season thing.

      • MilaXX

yes, I’m looking at this like the LA season when Nina and Micheal couldn’t be there full time.

  • I smell the distinct whiff of desperation.

  • I personally dislike this change. There are SO many reality shows out there that I was a fan of until they started making twists and changing things up and not being authentic to their start, which causes them to normally go down hill. Project Runway is not a show I want to see go down hill. I don’t mind Zac as much, although I do wish it were Michael Kors, because Zac does know what he’s doing. What I don’t like is making everyone in two teams. yes it is important to be able to collaborate, but they need to prove they can work alone with no outside influence as well. I really hope that these changes are for this season only and not permanent.

  • Kenisha Hill Phillips

He might give you something worth judging when you critique the judges’ outfits. We can hope. Let’s all hope!

  • jackie cohen

I literally gasped when I saw the headline.

  • I did not ask for this… A season of team challenges didn’t work for Drag Race All Stars and I doubt very much it will work here.

  • Susan Collier

Oy. All team challenges are going to suck, just as Pandora Boxx.
    No Michael Kors… meh.

    • ThaliaMenninger

OTOH, calling Zac Posen Princess Pandora has possibilities.

  • itsnotoveryet11

I hate team challenges, the thought of a whole series of them is just horrific. I used to adore this show but I’ll probably give it a miss from now on

  • Yuck. I hate team challenges because it’s more difficult to really get a read on an individual’s design aesthetic. Obviously, this is just one more brick in the wall of drama vs. actual design criteria. Plus, I’m guessing with less time and less money to teams, it’s cheaper for the producers. As for Mr. Posen, I cannot name what I haven’t seen…

  • All team challenges sounds like a really bad idea, a last-ditch effort to keep it going. Kors’s bailing doesn’t help or instill confidence in that change in structure. Sigh. It may be the end.

  • rtuko

So, basically this is going to be Survivor: Design Edition.

more about throwing other people under the bus and drama rather than focusing on talent and creativity. How can the producers keep missing just WHY people enjoy watching PR in the first place?

    • muzan-e

I can accept this. On one condition:

In Survivor: Design Edition!, there are no more pleasant jaunts down to Mood. Heavens, no. This year, the judges begin each episode by throwing the day’s allotment of fabric and notions onto the sewing-room floor for the two teams to fight over  – tooth, nail and knitting-needle! Fur will fly – but only during the red carpet challenge, where using it will have you labeled costumey anyway!

      * – It’s not possible to write Survivor:Design Edition! without making it boldly exclamatory.

      • MidArmJewel

I stopped watching PR but I would watch this!

      • DeborahJozayt

I think there should be just one sewing machine, and the teams have to be tied together at the wrist and fight gladiator style to get first dibs on it. Anna Wintour will eat the corpses out of the goodness of her own heart.

      •  “fur will fly”?  Only if it’s faux (or Chris March’s human hair”!  🙂

  • They stole Team Challenges from RuPaul. I hated it then, I’m sure I’ll hate it now. I might start relying on just your commentary for PR like I do for PR:AS.

    • PR should take a lesson from Drag Race and abandon the Team Challenge

  • Caitlin Rain

    La Principessa.

  • The only thing is, watching the designers squirm and be really bad sports …. sounds fun.

  • joe_tey83

Yes, this is EXACTLY what Project Runway needs now: Overcomplicating instead of simplifying things. Next season, we will have College Edition and the next next season, we will have Petite Edition and the next next next season Fans Vs Favourites and the next next next next season the Beauty Queen Edition.

Zac Posen should be called Daphne. He looks like a Daphne. That’s all.

    •  Yes, they’re probably negotiating with the little “twitter guru” guy from ANTM for a future season.  Oy.

    • bitchybitchybitchy

You left out the PR: Honey Boo Boo Edition.

  • hughman

    Princess Sparkle Pony.

    • 429cyrus

      my little posen

  • I have to be the dissenter here.  I think the all team concept is a great one.  A)It’s something a LITTLE different — go too far and you lose the show.  and B) There’s a big difference between a team challenge, which usually doesn’t yield great results, and a team format, which very well may.  For instance, one of the big complaints during the team challenges is that it’s all about drama — but in a season of nothing but, being too high-strung and hard to work with is going to count against you.  If your team is the worst every week, you’re going to be seen as the common denominator and auf’d sooner.  Which I like, because there’s no point in finding a great designer that everyone hates working with — they won’t be able to make it in fashion anyway.

The other complaint is that you don’t see a designer’s individual work in them.  But when they are ALL team challenges, you will — because everything will be done the same way.  And you’ll see how successful they can be at bring that vision forward while still working within a team structure, the way that they will have to in an actual business.

Of course, I could be totally wrong and it could be absolutely awful…

    • SapphoPoet

Seems that it’s important to make the distinction between team challenges and team format. I think that people here have commented that working in teams is a closer reflection of how a designer would have to work in the fashion world. Yes? I don’t really know, but that seems to make sense to me. So perhaps this might not be *too* too bad?

  • nomoreprinces

Throwing my hat in for Contessa.

    • Anathema_Device

I like it, especially b/c it is the name of my hairdresser’s spoiled Chihuahua/Maltese mix.

  • kimmeister

All Team Challenges . . . gee, that sounds a lot like the 2nd season of Fashion Show.

At least ZP’s personal style will enable him to participate in the “Rate the Judges” posts.

  • Judy_J

At least we can count on Zac to bring a little color to the proceedings.

    • golden_valley

      Besides orange you mean?

  • “Dowager” is too old a term for hot young Posen.  How about Queen Regent?  (one who reigns on behalf of another)  Or better yet, marchioness if you need something below the Duchess’s rank.

    • leilah

“Marchioness” would be the proper title for the step below Duchess, but “Marquesa” sounds SO much better . . .

  • Maluca

I think Project Runway finally jumped the shark. I’m not exactly happy about any of these changes that only serve to create drama.

    Oh well…

  • jjfg

First RPDR, now PR?  Do these people know how much WE (well, I) hate team challenges?  Good Christ, some of these people are practically insufferable even without the dynamics of “team.”  Is this some kind of test of viewer loyalty?

  • At least his sartorial choices should be a little more interesting than the Duchess?

  • Prince Regent.

  • Uggh.  I’ll keep holding out for a season where they have drag queens as models, and EVERY week is a different “unconventional materials” challenge. I’ll at least force myself to watch the Joan Rivers episode, just to see if she’s able to reduce every contestant to tears.

    • uprightcitizen

If her one-liners on Fashion Police can be brought to bear on PR, that will be worth watching. Anyone who thinks that Michael Kors knew how to deliver a funny line about a sagging crotch in a pair of pants hasn’t seen anything until Joan gets a chance to weigh in on that. And the designer who sends his/her model down the runway dressed like a streetwalker had better get ready!

  • mjude

    boooooooooooo hisssssssssss

  • Topaz

All. Team. Challenges. Kors, Posen, the Duchy of Cornwall, I don’t even care. I’m out.

  • Vanderkampy

I think RuPaul’s Drag Race All-Stars just proved that having only team challenges (until the bitter end) completely sucks.  Also, I gave up on PR last season just to get away from this kind of fuckery.  Now I just read TLo’s awesome recaps, and, happy.

  • Inspector_Gidget

Sounds like that slightly dreadful last season of The Fashion Show, where they worked in teams all season.

  • I’m kind of torn between “The Dauphin” and “The Dowager Countess.” Oh man.

    • ThaliaMenninger

The Dauphin is lovely. I mean, as a name. Excellent choice!

    • Lilithcat

Dauphin makes more sense than Dowager Countess.  After all, the Dowager is the one who is replaced, while the Dauphin is the replacement!

  • Based on some of the comments here, I was thinking Prince of Wails…

  • Hmm. Not sure I can stand watching an ALL TEAM CHALLENGE Project Runway, but I appreciate the shake-up. We shall see.

  • sockandaphone

i stopped reading at Team’s edition.

  • susan6

Team challenges are the WORST, and we’ve got a whole season of them?  Booooooo.   Also, no Duchess?  Yes, his quips occasionally get a bit try-too-hard, but he’s still awesome.  Captain Cheekbones up there is nice to look at, but not as overall fabulous.

I’ll watch for Tim, but they are seriously trying my patience.

    • bitchybitchybitchy

They’re also trying my patience by bringing in more celebs as guest judges. I like Kristin Davis and Susan Sarandon as actors-as fashion judges? I’m not sure.

    • Kenisha Hill Phillips

      Captain Cheekbones!

  • AthenaJ

No more shrieking tangerine man? Using a format that has been responsible for some of the biggest b!tchery and horrible designs we’ve seen on the show, full-time?? Where will I get to hear one liners that contain phrases like ‘geriatric disco bridesmaid’? How are we supposed to determine who is actually deserving of sticking around if they’re on a team full of suck? Wha, why… oh, I think I need to lie down for a bit… or better yet, can we call a special emergency TLounge so we can get our drink on and contemplate the meaning of a Duchess-less PR??

    • Hmm, Posen being younger, he may replace the use of the word “disco” with “rave.”

She looks like a mother of the bride at a rave!

  • Elias Martinez

its like the project runway producers saw this past season of RPDR and were like, wow this sucks but it sure cuts down on production costs, lets give it a try!

  • Joyce VG

*squeek!* No more Orange Duchess?  Well, hopefully these changes will help the franchise.

  • He is handsome.

  • Sweetvegan

All teams, all the time?! Bad idea. So bad. The sesason will be about the drama instead of the competition. Very, very bad idea. I’m so sad, because I think the end of the series is near.
And are they really not bringing in Tom and Lorenzo as judges?! Again?!

  • Jacqueline Wessel

Teams??? Taking a cue from RuPaul no doubt. I’m going to go with The Viscount. (He looks fabulous here except for the shoes.)

    • Kit_W

I saw that too. What the hell is up with the shoes?

  • So, they are basically turning PR into the second season of The Fashion Show.  I wonder if they will call them teams or if they will refer to them as Fashion Houses like TFS did.  What were the houses?  Naima or something like that?

  • I think this might be the final nail in the coffin of PR. So sad.

  • Judih1

Why no TLO as some of the guest judges? Why have Joan and Melissa, when TLO is the real thing?

  • CrazyAuntie

Positive – Bette!!  Joan!! (..and Melissa…)
    Negative – no Duchess…but Heidi’s still there??…
Question – Is Laura Kathleen on Road to Runway because she won All Stars?

    • Snailstsichr

I wondered the same about LK.

  • poggi

While I like the idea of creative people working together as a team and team projects reflect how many people work in real life, based on the show’s history I suspect that the Project Runway version will reflect neither of these.

  • Rand Ortega

It wasn’t enough this show Jumped the Shark by going to Lifetime, it’s now stomping it to death w/ 6 inch stilettos.

    • l_c_ann

Nina’s fashion book does have the maxim

“She who dies with the most stilettos wins”

      Sort of prescient.

  • SewingSiren

Didn’t one of the failed fashion game shows already do all teams? Yes. I wonder if the contestants will be super disappointed.

    • Anathema_Device

I think it was The Fashion Show with Iman. That was an interesting concept, but it got old. You never really got to see an individual shine like they could on their own.

  • guest2visits

I had a feeling this was my last season to watch PR.   I would have fallen on my sissors, or jumped out the hotel window
upon finding out that I’d never get to display my work on a show that already successfully blocks the best designs from
reaching the runway, week after week.  If only half the designers did a Kooan or Andrea during production; that would make
it worthwhile.   What a sh*ty idea. In fact, multiple and various 4-letter words.  This just proves the producers do not really
understand the merits of their own show.

    • guest2visits

To make my point more clearly;  I have more and more insite as to Kooan and Andrea’s unplanned departure.
Although I think anyone who tries out for the show has to know about some of the crap they’re in for – I also think
everyone’s entitled to draw a line over just how much bullshit they feel they want to endure for little gain.
If PR has become such a ridiculous product with nothing but game show antics for it’s viewers; it’s very probable
that alot of designers themselves have decided that the show is wasting their time too.  I’m surprised every season
that several of the designers don’t actually give the finger and walk. At this point; THAT would be worth seeing.

  • I suppose that I’m in the minority by saying that I think it’ll be an interesting change. It’ll breathe some life into the show.

  • I am totally behind that nickname for Zac.
I think it’s about time they shook things up. Honestly, how much longer can we fear the change when we all know the show needs it.
Miranda Lambert is a judge? For what? The tacky challenge?
Can’t Laura Kathleen go away already?

    • Kit_W

We fear the change? And it’s about time they shook things up? Heh-heh, I gotta say, I think that’s pretty funny.

Do you know of any other show that in the course of its running went from 12 contestants to 20 and any arbitrary number in between on any given season, not only changed Venues (NY. to LA. and back to NY) and production companies but NETWORKS too, as well as gone from a 60 minute format to a 90 minute one and then also arbitrarily and randomly throws on a ‘reunion’ episode when ever the feck they feel like it? Not to mention the production schedule is often so random that it’s either entirely in the can minus the last episode 6 weeks prior to fashion week or they’re filming the 2nd to last episode 2 days before PR designers walk the runway there. It’s so messed up even Heidi who claims to have invented the thing and has been there since day one often states they’ve been on the air for 10 years when it’s only been 7.

I’ve never known a show as schizophrenic as this one, have you?

  • Wait, why is Laura Kathleen, of anyone, hosting a show? Is it because she wins All Stars 2??? Noooooo!

    • bitchybitchybitchy

Laura Kathleen is the Cubic Zirconia of PR contestant-sparkly but not the real goods.

    • jen0farc

This is exactly what I thought.  Ugh, Uli’s going to get screwed on an all stars show again.

    • guest2visits

I’m going to make believe I didn’t read that.  Nope. Not. Possible.

  • Anathema_Device

Hmm, PR is getting even more gimmicky. I already had one foot out the door with this show, so not sure whether I’ll be watching the whole season. I’ll give it a shot, though.

I’ll miss The Duchess, but I think I remember Zac Posen as a guest judge and liked him.

  • Oh – please…. The Princess

  • nannypoo

Commentary from Laura Kathleen? Good god, I can hardly stand to listen to her. I’m guessing this announcement should have been preceded by “Spoiler Alert”, although I don’t think anyone else on the show deserves to win either.

  • In_Stitches

    Howabout “His Royal Prince”?

I think, finally, that I will be able to quit project runway.  While in the past few seasons it has lost some of it’s shine, this new format seems like a farewell to integrity.  Damn you Bunim and Murray, damn you.  You’ve turned what once was truly special into something common.

  • crackineggs

    Little Lord Fauntleroy?

At least he can be included in the “Judging the Judges” segment.

Team challenges – to quote Bart Simpson that sucks and blows.

  • I’m excited. Hopefully Posen brings an actual fashion eye to the runway judging panel. It’s been pretty negligent in the past few seasons. It has been basically embarrassing for the judging panel to be shown up every time a guest judge like Zoe Saldana gives a thoughtful critique an makes the panel look like they are talking completely out of their asses. I’d like to see Heidi play less of a role in judging as well since her judgement basically amounts to “would I wear that?” Which, from a fashion perspective is pretty boring. This show used to have the chops, I would love to see them go away from street wear and promote some interesting aesthetics. Lifetime is kind of killing the brand. I mean, we will still tune in because it’s not terrible/toopainful to watch, but it’s nothing like it used to be. (And even then it was very focused to what normal people would wear and less fashiony.)

    • Kit_W

You are soooooo right. I really miss the old show.

  • Funkykatt

Honestly this show makes so much money, one would think they’d up the ante with better prizes.

  • GorgeousThings

How about the Prince Regent, with Nina as the Dowager Empress and Heidi as the Favored Courtesan?

  • All team challenges. Because that worked out so well for Ru Paul’s Drag Race.

Notice how they refer to the challenges as “controversial?” They are controversial because people hate them, Lifetime. Push the limits, sure–but not at the expense of the creativity on display, or of the patience of the viewer. Over it.

  • Imasewsure

I like the fact that MK will be the finale judge but don’t like much else here… hate all the celebrity judges because I loved it when the judges were true fashion folks – esp. when they weren’t familiar to me but the contestants were over the moon… will watch sporadically at best… ugh

  • Elsewhere1010

Principessa. Or Il Conte, which you must pronounce very, very carefully.

  • Orange Girl

uh, does this mean Laura Kathleen won All-Stars?

    • janierainie

I was wondering the same thing.

      • l_c_ann

I had that thought, as well.

It didn’t give me a warm cuddly feeling.  Heck, how could that happen with hair color as a major sponser?  Her hair color is an ad disaster just waiting for a PR malfunction.

    • hoez

Maybe they chose her because they couldn’t announce the winner yet? At this point, a Laura win is kind of out there considering Emilio and Anthony Ryan are still in.

  • LittleKarnak

Glad I already dropped this show from my viewing schedule…team challenges????

  • formerlyAnon

Well, gotta start scoring the boy in “Judge the Judges.”

  • Scarlet39

It seems that consistently in the comment section here BKs have been complaining about the amount of “drama” the producers have focused on and the lack of focus on the clothes and the creative process.   Are we the odd people out?   Maybe that’s what the general viewing public really wants to see.

  • Well, team challenge episodes are my least favorite to watch, so this season might be all it takes to cure me of my PR habit.

  • Judy_S

All team challenges, huh? they decided to make it easy for us to stop bothering to watch.

    • unbornfawn

PR is throwing its loyal viewers under the bus.

  • i haven’t been able to watch it for a few seasons now, but if i was still watching it, i wouldn’t be anymore.  if that makes sense.  all team challenges?  HATE team challenges.  and no kors, no mores.

  • janierainie

Team challenges. If that’s what they’re going to do they need to change the name to Designers Behaving Badly. Que Horrible’!!

  • Laylalola

    Holy crap this sounds awful.

  • Laylalola

They totally read the Gretchen season as a winner all around, in other words.

  • 429cyrus

    captain cheekbones!

  • I vote for Dauphin.  I can’t help thinking that Zac and his ego with be the Duchess’s heir and the spare.

  • I don’t remember Zac being so good looking … before.  He’s so hot in this picture.

  • SpillinTea

    Dowager CUNTess.

  • pugluv

Wow…I love quite a few of his designs yet I had no idea that he was this cute!!! He is really quite an attractive man.

  • before we get out the pitchforks- lets give it a few eps…

however- since this is about “fashion” I would rather have judges from that industry (would a boating show competition have judges from the baking industry? no) I would like to hear ‘legitimate’ (sp) feedback.
Curious if Madame That-crotch-is-insanes leaving is BM’s doing, him not getting a range, or an attempt to ‘fix’ the show? hmmm?

  • SRQkitten

TLo said: We propose The Dowager Countess, just to be bitches about it.

    Oh boys, never change. TFF!

  • pepper76

A whole season of team challenges? No wonder Kors is out. However, I am totally down for the Joan episode!

  • velomango

No comment…except, I’ve never seen a photo of Zac before, and had no idea he is so handsome. Wow.

  • jw_ny

The show needs a a new spark…not sure that this will do it, but I’ll not prejudge.
As for The Duchess not returning…fine.  He wasn’t adding anything new to show anyways.
Hopefully Zac will bring a fresh perspective..I’m not familiar with his personality, however he appears to be quite the dandy.  I don’t recall him being such a cutie.  If for nothing else, perhaps good for a bit of eye candy.  😉

  • Right when i thought PR was getting better, they kill it with all team challenges.

  • Call me Bee

I think when Charles replaced Diana with what’s-her-name…Camilla…she became Royal Consort.  So that’s what Zac would be.  I love him as a judge, BTW.  He’s done well in the past.
The team challenge thing is just awful.  You know what they say:  an elephant is a horse built by a committee.  We’ll never see true representations of the designers’ visions–just a lot of compromised junk.  Ugh.

  • quiltrx

All team challenges????  WTF, you stupid Lifetime bitches?  I was considering watching again, but I’m not watching THAT bullshit.  Maximum drama, shitty output…everyone has to stifle their own POV to fit the team’s plan.  BAD idea.

And…well, thank you Zac Posen, for showing me that guys can indeed do the “I have to pee” pose.  It’s also a bit of a “Buffalo Bill” pose, but I digress.

  • l_c_ann

Did the Duchess get his wittle feelings hurt?  He loaned all those fashions to guest judges last season and thought that they would cause his collection to sell out.

Instead a dreadful thing happend when ungrateful bitter kittens proclaimed many of the Duchess’ creations ugly and not flattering.

  • Stubenville

Teams?  That will be a train wreck. We saw how well that idea worked on RuPaul Drag Race All Stars.

  • kikisayshi

Laura Kathleen? Does that mean she’s the winner of PRAS? Ugh. I wish they would give us a little breathing room, for real. I mean I can’t NOT watch the damn show but I’m feeling a little oversaturated with one season after another and another. I hope the Dowager has been taking notes from his predecessor about how to compare the models to things like 17th-century-hooker-clown-who’s-going-to-the-movies.

    • Kenisha Hill Phillips

      Completely agree re: oversaturation.

  • unbornfawn

All team challenges? I hate team challenges. Did they just give away that Laura Kathleen wins All-Stars? Yuk. She’s a mediocre designer at best and annoying as hell. Farewell orange one.

  • bertkeeter

    Prince of Seams?

  • AuntieAnonny

The terribly dressed shark has officially been jumped, my loves.

  • alyce1213

I just can’t reconcile how they will have a season of all team challenges (which is an entirely different show), and have one single winner at the conclusion.  The way the team challenges go, there’s always much controversy about roles, power, leadership, etc. This could be messy.
Maybe it’s good to see Zac Pozen in action before a title is bestowed.

  • marigi

Well, this way you’ll be able to do a complete set in judging the judges…

  • I think Zac Posen is so cute.  I’ll throw out le Petit Prince.

All team challenges?  Groan.  I hate the team challenges.  Lots of fake drama, one team member always gets left out, then Heidi goads them to throw each other under the bus. Although I will have to watch the episodes with Bette Midler and Joan Rivers.  They should be the permanent judges.

  • decormaven

TLo, your recaps will serve as my contact for this season’s episodes. Team challenges 24/7 – quelle horreur.

  • the Marquis of poze

  • So I saw “all teams” and I was set to write this season off, but then I saw “Bette Midler” and now I’m torn because she is the goddess of everything and I LUV HUH!

But honestly, I don’t really care that Kors is gone. He was grating and repetitive and gave up on constructive criticism years ago.

    “Mistress of the Royal Wardrobe”

  • Jen Craigslist

Does anyone else think this means that Laura Kathleen wins this season of All Stars?

  • AK

Guess Kors probably ran out of cracktastic metaphors. Maybe he needs a season off to restock.

  • VicksieDo

Having Laura Kathleen on this gives me the impression she’s winning this All Stars season 🙁

    • meowing

My first thought, too.  Hope we’re wrong.  Lord knows, she’s privileged enough.

  • afabulous50

The show needs to get back to its roots…and go back to BRAVO network and start from the beginning again.  I hate team challenges.  No comment on Posen…as long as Nina and Tim are still there, I’ll watch.

    • l_c_ann

You can’t go home again…. I read that somewhere 😉

But Bravo has changed and the people at the Magical Elves have gone their separate ways.  I’ve often thought that the change in producers was a problem that Heidi and Weinstein didn’t appreciate.  Heidi Inc. may just be treading water nowadays.  She is so rich that she doesn’t need PR to be successful because it’s only a small part of the the things she does for big money.

      • GretaChristina

“She is so rich that she doesn’t need PR to be successful because it’s only a small part of the the things she does for big money.”

If she thinks her brand can outlive PR, she’s been sniffing hair spray. She may do a lot of other things for big money these days…  but PR is the only reason most people give a flying rat’s ass about her. If that goes, the whole house of cards crumbles.

  • kmk05

Wait, isn’t that a copy or RPDR’s All Stars season? Granted, they had teams of 2, but they had to work together until the end.Only going on recaps with this one too, TLo 🙂  I think it’s silly they have so many actors/actresses: those people has stylists! Wouldn’t it be better to have the stylists as guest judges?

  • Vera L-

after seeing him in that picture, let’s call him The Crimson Chin.

Not a fan of team challenges. Wonder if the Velvet Button Bag (sounds like a 70’s band) will be in play?

  • The Vicunt

  • Tamara Hogan

    The Marquess.

  • The colorful dutchess?

  • bertkeeter

    The Heir to BRANDING!

  • MoHub

Don’t know about trading out Kors for Posen, but the Team concept takes me back to The Fashion Show, and we all know how well that worked out.

    Can you say Calvin Tranh?

  • Le_Sigh

    How about the Widdle Pwince?

  • librarygrrl64

Zac, Schmac, I can’t WAIT to hear what Bette and Susan have to say!

  • hoez

There were scheduling issues apparently with Michael, so it was like when he and Nina were absent for most of the LA season. He may be back for the next season?

  • So it’s “The Fashion Show” now…essentially.

  • kaycem

i didn’t care about the new season of PR long before this moment, but now i care wayyyyy less.

  • Cousin_Rose

Well, I’m glad that TLo has found an audience beyond Project Runway. I came here because of that show but won’t be bothering with the team challenge beyond maybe reading your recaps. How come you aren’t doing Scandal?

  • Why are they acting like a giant team challenge is something new?  That was the Fashion Show’s second season.  Remember “here go hell come”?  I’ll wait for the recaps, thanks.

  • barbarienne

I didn’t bother to get cable when I moved last month, and I have been thrilled with that decision. The notion of an all-team season on PR cements my happiness. Team challenges are the worst. All the fake drama, all the bullshit editing, is just exponentially worse when it’s a team challenge. They suck.

The one good thing might be that FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER they won’t be aufing one of the team leaders.

  • ChristinaRi

Zac Posen is no dowager.  He’s hot.

He can be a countess is you like, or a marchioness

  • gubblebumm

    the little prince

  • FloridaLlamaLover

Blech.  Sounds like they took (bad) notes from RuPaul’s All Stars this past season.

  • that’s too bad about the all-teams challenge.  sounds like it’s being hyped as promoting conflict.  man, i knew back in high school that conflict drives drama, but i am so over people fighting with each other right now, whether it’s talking heads on cable news or shrieking fashionistas carrying scissors.  aren’t there any grown-ups in the room?

  • Iroqhard

Wait, didn’t RPDR All Stars just try this? And didn’t it suck balls? Why yes, it did.

  • ccm800

Hes so pretty – I loathe team challenges.

  • GretaChristina

    Shoot me fucking now.

Team challenges are the bane of PR. All drama and bitch-slapping; no design. An entire frakking season of them? And without the hilarious and baffling but undeniable chemistry of Heidi/ Nina/ Michael?

I’ve been loyal to this show for many seasons now. In fond memory of what it once was, if nothing else. But this time, I just might bail.

  • Pam Winters

Damn. I’ll be featuring at a poetry reading that night. (OK, so what if this is just an excuse to brag? Laura Kathleen does it. Speaking of whom, I already hated that Road to the Runway show, and now they’ve guaranteed I won’t watch it.)

Dunno about this team thing. The PR concept has enough problems these days without a situation in which designers can effectively elevate or pull down other designers. But I guess it’ll bring us lots of DRAMA.

  • GTrain

ugh, all team challenges? i’m out.

  • He’s very pretty…How about Lady Zac?

  • He’s very pretty…How about Lady Zac?

  • Derek_anny

     And Joan.

  • DesertDweller79

Sounds like this will be the first season of PR I don’t even attempt to watch.

  • All team challenges?  Whoever thought this was a good idea has been doing more drugs than Charlie Sheen and Lindsey Lohan combined.  Did we not see The Fashion Show? And are team challenges even popular? I mean, I know my PR watching buddies and I can’t speak for the entire audience but I don’t know a single person who actually enjoys the team challenges and the designers seem to loathe them.  I know that PR is reality tv and I expect to side eye my way through a certain amount of manufactured drama and general bitchassness during the course of a season but this seems like its going to be a little too Real Housewives of Celebrity Rehab at the Jersey Shore for me. I think I’m going to be sitting this season out.  I stuck w/PR during the Wretched-I mean, Gretchen debacle and I sucked it up when Anya “Everyone else sews for me b/c I have no construction skills to speak of” won but this…I think I’m going to have to auf myself b/c this is a little too much for me.

  • MattCooper27

No more Michael? No more Oompa Loompa tan in a “it’s too much effort for me to wear anything other than my black t-shirt and blazer”? No more pathetic attempts at sarcasm along the lines of “She looks like a drunken Teletubby at a hookers’ convention”? Instead we get a gorgeous judge who dresses beautifully? Yay!

  • Can we just call Zac ‘Maggie’?

  • CarolinLA

Why is this on the main page?
