Christmas in Stockholm, darlings! It’s like a Lifetime Christmas movie, with a curiously large budget and/or a very cocky art director!

Café Opera, Stockholm

Freaking fabulous. We want to go to there and then stay there indefinitely, catching the light as we look at fabulous things, all the live-long day.

Carolyn Murphy, Georgina Chapman, Isaac Mizrahi and guest judges Jenny Packham and Gretchen Mol.

It’s some sort of 1920s-themed yaddayaddayadda, so it’s kind of cute to have Boardwalk Empire’s Gretchen Mol sitting in the guest judge chair. We have doubts as to her qualifications, however. But that’s hardly new.

And now, pictures of very blonde women and young gay men with ridiculous hair:

This time of year is tough for a couple of hard-workin’ red carpet commenters. The pickings every day get slimmer and slimmer as the stars all retreat into their hidey-holes in preparation for awards season. They’re masticating newspaper and making little nests in which to hibernate as we speak, rather than hitting the streets or the red carpets, the way we would prefer it.

So tomorrow, we’ll put up our usual post-Project Runway episode bitchfest and try to scour the wastelands for pictures of a starlet wearing something ugly, but after that, we’re signing off until after Christmas day. We get itchy when opinions go unexpressed, so we figure we’ll be back at it on the 26th.

So, if we don’t get a chance to say it tomorrow while bitching about Project Runway, have a lovely holiday, kittens. Whatever that means to each of you; just enjoy the momentary light in the darkness and look forward to a fabulous new year ahead.

Oh, and come back on Monday for the reposting of our T Lo holiday tradition: Musical Monday: White Christmas, darlings.

Ivy is giving some epic bitchface there.  She should get points for that alone

      • Stubenville

        That’s not her normal expression?

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_3JSTXMWWVZN2QNP2UEKJMTWD7U Isabel

      Merry Christmas, TLo. Rest up.

Looking forward to meeting you when you go on your book tour.

      • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000060490093 Anita Freiler Palmer

Where can we get information on the book tour?

    • Susan Collier

Y’all work hard and we appreciate it!
Or you can just repost your White Christmas movie review!

      • http://www.tomandlorenzo.com/ Tom and Lorenzo

Oh, yes. That’s a T Lo holiday tradition. Expect that to go up again on Monday.

        • Wellworn

Those Musical Mondays were the best.  Looking forward to it.

    • Imasewsure

Thank you Dear Uncles for such a fabulous year of sharing and caring (oh course we care, that’s why we judge). Next year awaits for more delicious cracktasticness, “taste issues” and the occasional full-on WERQ! 2013, bring it!!

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_ZBFH32YG44LIIZYLSQPMBXMYCU Sarah

Argh! Leaving us for DAYS. I for one, will be busy with soon-to-be inlaws and out of town guests, so I guess snarking is off the table, but should I have a brief moment to surf, my fingers will wander here, and miss you. As for tonight, bring on the team hateration. I’ve got to wrap presents while I watch and drink champagne, so I’m ready.

      • bitchybitchybitchy

I’ll just have to console myself by burying myself in the kitchen and baking more cookies….this time of year I go into a modified Martha Stewart mode and bring out the cookie gun, recipe collection and have a blast.

    • gabbilevy

Merry Christmas (or whatever!) to you boys and all the Bitter Kittens. Enjoy your holidays :)

    • Imasewsure

Yes it’s “And now, pictures of very blonde women and young gay men with ridiculous hair”… and IVY who is seriously fuming (and has boring hair today)

    • swissgirl

Yes, that is some really stupid-looking hair on Josh and especially that poufette on The Anointed One. Oh well, Happy Holidays!

      • Stubenville

Poufette is the perfect description, but I’d add “heinous” just in case anyone thought it was a positive comment.

        • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

I’ve said it before the hair is to make himself stand out. Otherwise he’s a cute, but not overly remarkable you g gay man. I see an army of them every day.

          • Monabel

            “Are you bragging or complaining?”

            • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

               yes.

        • TonyGo

Heinous Poufette…and I have my new drag name. Thanks, Stubenville!

    • Maine1ac

The best of holidays to you, too, and a fabulous year in 2013!

    • MilaXX

T & Lo, I have to once again thank you for this blog. On crappy days like today I look forward to reading and chuckling at your post. You guys truly are the gift that keeps on giving.

I’m kinda  tired, but I’ll try and stay awake for the show tonight.

    • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

And the very very best and most deliciously stylish of holidays to you two gentlemen. My thanks for a year full of opinion, information, delightful bitchery, and glamour!
      MWAH

    • Joyce VG

      Happy Holidays T Lo!

    • twocee

Happy Holidays to both of you, and to all of the bitter kittens.  Ya’ll make my workday just a little more fun.

    • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

Now, who’s for champagne in this ultra-glam bar?

      • StillGary

        ME!

      • Stubenville

        Me! Me!   =)

        • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

Okay! You and StillGary come on over and help me empty this first bottle. I will, as usual, have to leave y’all before the real fun commences, since I work late Thursdays. But till then, let the booze and bit Henry flow!
          Where are my other peeps?

          • another_laura

I hope I qualify, darling!  In the spirit of the Miss Universe posts, I’ll be balancing one of those chandeliers on my head.  Oh no, wait, perhaps I should be swinging from one of those chandeliers….

            • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

I would say start out wearing, and swing from later.

            • Stubenville

              Borrowing Anya’s chandelier earrings?

      • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_ZBFH32YG44LIIZYLSQPMBXMYCU Sarah

        Me THREE!

      • MilaXX

         virtual bubbly works for me!

      • Anathema_Device

I’ll take some, if there is any left.

        • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

Yay! (Hands over glass). For you my dear, the bottle never runs dry!
          Sante’!

          • Anathema_Device

I finished my Christmas shopping today and bought enough groceries to see us through the weekend. Nothing but baking, wrapping, and movie watching movies for me for the next few days. Oh, and two parties. Life is good! Cheers!

            • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

Working the Xmas Rush through Saturday, then it’s all about prep for my annual Xmas Day Open House. This year fro dinner: two different timbales in pastry. One with lamb, the other is chicken and turkey. Red cabbage and onion salad, asparagus in curried mustard sauce, and for dessert, mixed fruit in brandies pastry cream, I’m gonna be a busy boy. Sounds like you’re gonna have a great weekend! Party On girlfriend!!

            • Call me Bee

Sounds delish!  I’ll be  serving up the traditional Esto fare:  ham, herring and verevorst (blood sausage)  on Chrismtas Eve, but we’re free the next day.  What time shall we be over?  ;)

            • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

I would LOVE to be able to really host my fellow BKs. Doors open after 11am and stay that way till the last drunken sot drags their sorry ass out.

            • Anathema_Device

Wow. Great menu. We’re hosting a Christmas luncheon for my bro and my in laws. Poached salmon, soufflé, sautéed green beans w/ carmelized shallots & lemon, and I think a spinach, quinoa, pomegranate, pistachio salad. Making homemade gingerbread bread, spritz, and sugar cookies for dessert. I’ve been watching the calories all holiday season, but I will indulge on Christmas!

      • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1540233153 Malve Lyborg

Me! And I’ve been in Stockholm only a few days ago…

      • Call me Bee

Oh yes.  Count me in–I’ll get the next bottle after I finish my vodka.  We can drink to the Holidays and to our Dear Uncles Tom and Lorenzo and then to each other and then to all the BKs.  I’m feeling all mushy and lovey tonight.  :) (It’s becasue finally it’s snowing like a summabitch and it’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas.)

        • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

Sarah, Mila, Malve, Bee and Anathema!
What a great table full of BKs!!!! A very Merry to all of Y’All!

          • MilaXX

back at ya’ babe. This place wouldn’t be the same without you!

            • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

You’re sweet to say so. What a nice Xmas present!

          • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_ZBFH32YG44LIIZYLSQPMBXMYCU Sarah

Ah, if we could only have a REAL Xmas party, with all the BK’s in our finest kittenwear, with mannequins dressed in all the failed and winning outfits of PR, for us to examine and deconstruct in person…

            • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

I’ve long wanted to host a gathering of the Bay Area PUFs. And of course anyone else who was able to get to SF.

            • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_ZBFH32YG44LIIZYLSQPMBXMYCU Sarah

Yes! Human interaction is good! We could have an unconventional materials challenge of our own! “PUFs and BKs must wear attire comprised completely of nutritional supplements and hair accessories” or something to that effect.

            • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

Hee Hee!  I love the idea.  Although just getting a bunch of us bitter kittens in the same space would be great.  I will seriously think on this.

            • another_laura

              Pick a joint, I’m there.

            • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

I knew I could count on you.

            • bitchybitchybitchy

That sounds as if it would be such delicious fun-and the other BK’s and PUF’s could share in it vicariously. I”m sure you’d be a truly fabulous host, Kiltd!

        • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_ZBFH32YG44LIIZYLSQPMBXMYCU Sarah

You are a lucky dog! The South produces no such white stuff from the sky. I remember one time when it did, the kids down the street were running around saying “Grits! Grits from the SKY!”

          • Call me Bee

Snow still falling three hous later but the wind has kicked up.  It’s less “snowglobe” and more “blizzard” now.    Just not as much fun…

            • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_ZBFH32YG44LIIZYLSQPMBXMYCU Sarah

It would be fun enough to get me out of a two hour drive to my elderly father and golddigging stepmother’s house tonight, at which I’ll be forced to make the Xmas cookies they no longer think they should have to slave over in their golden years, and I as youngest of the family get to do for them, so I say I wish there was a Blizzard of Epic Proportions in the DelMarVa area today.

      • muzan-e

Oh, yes please. Tomorrow morning I’m to be dusting up Christmas truffles laced with all things liquored, and I do believe I’m of a mind to start early. With the liquoring bit, that is.

I could imagine no better company than your lovely, wicked selves. *beams*

        • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

I love the notion of being lovely and wicked.
          (Beams back)

    • StillGary

Merry Merry TLo and you ships at sea!!!!

    • Diane Lynch

Happy holidays, dear gay uncles and Bitter Kittens!

    • Janet B

A toast to White Christmas movie review, all of the Bitter Kittens, and T Lo for being fabulous.

      Happy Holidays to you all!

    • Jepham

Happy holidays, Tom, Lorenzo and all the bitter kittens from someone who posts rarely but reads daily!

      • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

And right back at ya from someone who can’t stop posting. (Grin)
        Champagne?

        • Jepham

Champagne sounds wonderful! I love it with a splash of cranberry juice. Don’t ever stop posting or this place wouldn’t be the same.

    • Inspector_Gidget

Happy holidays!  We can drink too much and enact our own Lifetime movie while in Stockholm.  Who wants to be the friend that works for the CIA that lets the vict-er, protagonist know that her husband is a serial killer with four other wives?

    • hellkell

Merry Christmas, TLo! I hope you get all the fabulous things!

    • SewingSiren

Love the bar. It’s all row row Rococo on top and Ultra Cool Modern on bottom. Shall I drink as if I were Marie Antoinette or as if I were Calvin Klein?

      • Call me Bee

How about Calvin Klein in Marie Antoinette’s dress and white wig?

    • out for a walk

Thank you TLo, for “they’re masticating newspaper and making little nests in which to hibernate,” for the Miss Universe National Costume posts, and for general year-round kick-assery.

    • BeeBeauNYC

      Merry Christmas boys!

    • jilly_d

Merry Christmas to my favorite fabulous gay uncles, from a loyal BK.  Thanks for all you do; your TV recaps are thoughtful, your fashion commentary delightfully snark-a-licious.  Always a welcome diversion from real life.

    • UsedtobeEP

Merry Merry to you, TLo, and to all the BKs. Off to make fake snow for the kidlets, as school is out and time to wreck the house!

    • rainwood1

Oooh yay!  Musical Mondays!! Things are looking up already.

    • carolynmo

Merry Christmas, Tom and Lorenzo! You two have had a very good year, and I imagine 2013 will bring more opportunities.

    • Anathema_Device

Enjoy your well earned break, T Lo! Thank you for bringing us joy all year long!!!

Love this lounge! I was in Stockholm over the summer and unfortunately didn’t step foot into any place this fab. Virtual visiting will suffice, though.

And I’ve lost interest in this show, but I might actually watch in real time tonight, if only to be able to read your post first thing w/o spoilers!

    • kat89

Wow, I miss Musical Mondays! Gay men in fancy costumes and women in vagina hats! I think you should resurrect it!

    • Zippypie

Merry Christmas to you and your furry babies, TLo!!

And I can’t believe Anne Hathaway has gone into hiding.  Oscar voters still need massaging, Anne!!  Please come back out in something hiddy!

      • MilaXX

I think Kerry Washington and Jaimie Fox are still pole dancing for Django unchained

    • Call me Bee

Gentlemen–a fabulous and Happy Solstice, Merry Christmas and Prosperous New Year to you both.  I drink a toast to you and to the wonderful Commentariat as well.
From your loyal BK/PUF Toni in Milwaukee

And–thanks for taking us to this fabulous bar.  I’ll have vodka, please, on the rocks.   (But please not Swedish vodka–it’s as vile as Estonian vodka.  Only Russian will do.  Merci and suur taenu!)

      • Stubenville

        Estonian vodka?  [shudder]

        • Call me Bee

Actually–just after the fall of the USSR, they started producing a vodka called “Turi” that was very decent.  But I guess the capitalists have gotten ahold of it and now it’s really lousy…LOL…

    • Hetha Innis

      Happy Holidays T and Lo!
What is Carolyn Murphy wearing? Is it Gucci? She looks insanely gorgeous!

    • Snailstsichr

Man, I hope no one ever paints that ceiling beige!! Love the bar!Let’s get the bubbly flowing.

    • meowing

Only the Merriest and Happiest to you, TLo.  You bring us gifts of your wit all year, so heaven knows you deserve a Christmas break.  I think ya’ll work harder than Santa’s elves.  May everything bright be yours.

    • guest2visits

This really is a weird and wonderful lounge.   Wishing you a Merry Christmas and all the very best, to you and yours, TLo.

    • velomango

Happy Holidays to you too TLo!

    • http://twitter.com/Elissa_Malcohn Elissa Malcohn

You make my day, TLo, BKs, and PUFs.  Have a fabulous time!
      Stylists dress us, every one.

    • Violina23

      Musical Monday!! SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

    • Kate4queen

We love you!! from a devoted  BK :)

we are having a snow storm and my Dish is out, so I can’t watch it

      • http://frankbettecenter.org/ sleah_in_norcal

thank the powers that be, we are between storms here.  but i am going to get my white christmas this year.  too bad my husband will drag me off the the in-laws on christmas eve, and no snow there.  maybe we’ll get snowed in here at home!

        • CozyCat

Not sure where you live, but I think your storm is roaring in here RIGHT NOW!

(I have a cat in my lap who looks at the the front door with trepidation every time the wind picks up.  There, there kitty….)

    • another_laura

All the best to my Bitter Kitten buddies at T Lo and of course to the grand masters of the loving bitchy put-down, Tom and Lorenzo! Joy and Happiness and a little over-imbibing to one and all!

    • BuffaloBarbara

Well, the 20s.  At least it’s not the 70s.  Or a band looking for a new look.

Happy Holidays, fellow Kittens and TLo!

      • Stubenville

        Oh dear. The poor Sheepdogs.

    • alula_auburn

      Season Greetings, kittens and TLO!

My cable is starting to flicker, I suppose because of the blizzard I’m not quite having yet–I’m not sure if randomly missing pops of dialogue is a real hardship here, though.

    • MilaXX

what is Josh wearing? looks like leopard boxers

      • zelavie

Seriously, it looks like he just forgot his pants!

        • http://frankbettecenter.org/ sleah_in_norcal

but you know it’s no accident.  he loves to show off the goods.  too bad his mouth goes with the rest.

    • dschubba

Happy Holidays (Christmas, Chaunukah, Kwanzaa, New Years’, all of the above, or plain ol’ PR Thursday), Bitter Kittens!

    • http://frankbettecenter.org/ sleah_in_norcal

what a beautiful bar we are in, it looks like a music box and echoes the winter wonderland here chez sleah.  keep those hot cognac toddies coming, and add a float of grand marnier.  yumm…

    • dschubba

Is Uli still learning English? I’m sure she didn’t mean to say that it would be “tough” for her to beat Laura Kathleen.

      • alula_auburn

I thought she meant it in a diplomatic-but-insincere way.  As compared to all the others with their trash talk which ISN’T EVEN WITTY, LAURA KATHLEEN.

        • dschubba

Nobody’s as bad as Anthony Ryan, though. Everything he’s said this season sounds like deleted scenes from Heathers.

    • alula_auburn

      yay, Swatch-sighting!

I SO want Laura Kathleen to crash and burn.

    • Stubenville

Fingers crossed that Josh, Laura Kathleen or Ivy go. Preferably all three.

      • MintaHallWriter

I’m with you!  All three at least on the bottom.  Lot of crack-talk tonight, huh?

      • dschubba

         I could live with that.

      • Call me Bee

        Wouldn’t that be loverly?

    • Polka_Dotty

I thought Josh considered the ’70s ancient history? What does he know about the ’20s?

    • MintaHallWriter

Does Ivy EVER have anything except a sour-nasty expression on her face?  And can she say ANYTHING nice about anyone else? Except her bud Cassanova.

    • BP180

Uli’s boobies are looking particularly spectacular tonight, aren’t they?

    • MintaHallWriter

WHERE did Josh get that horrible color palette?  Seriously?

      • Stubenville

        Que Linda! on 14th Street.

      • MilaXX

         hideous

    • alula_auburn

It kind of grates on me that Anthony Ryan seems to be getting a nice-guy edit when he’s really just as catty as everyone else (except Uli, who is just adorable).  Just because it comes with an accent and doofy hair doesn’t make him NOT nasty.

But then again, I may be relating too much to Ivy at the moment because I don’t like people all up in my space, either.  Not because I’m paranoid about omg cheating, just because I’m kind of big ball of self-conscious nerves.

    • http://eclectictsunami.blogspot.com/ Cassie

What the fuck kind of garden party is Josh’s dress for, seriously?

    • Polka_Dotty

Feathers, fringe and fur. Disaster awaits.

      • Stubenville

We can only hope the fur flies.

    • Stubenville

      Marsupial?

      • MilaXX

         loved her for that remark

    • MilaXX

I love Joanna for pointing out Josh & Ivy haven’t won yet

    • dschubba

I’m surprised that they didn’t try to work in a reference to the new Gatsby film.

    • http://eclectictsunami.blogspot.com/ Cassie

I really love Joanna. Especially if she continues to do things like break into a Charleston in the workroom.

      • IamstillAnonymous

Me, too!  Doesn’t she have a reputation for being difficult?  I’ve seen nothing but support and good will from her.  I like her a lot.

    • Stubenville

Pants? In the 1920s? Really? NOT!

      • Polka_Dotty

        Pajama Palazzo Pants!

        • Stubenville

          40 years too early.

          • MintaHallWriter

Well…maybe 15 years too early. Remember Kate Hepburn was noted for wearing pants in the late 30s and 40s.  But still…WILDLY inappropriate for the challenge.

            • Stubenville

Minta – 40 years too early for “pajama palazzo”.

      • http://eclectictsunami.blogspot.com/ Cassie

Yeah…no. I mean maybe on, like, Gertrude Stein, but not on your average party girl, and DEFINITELY not giant pink palazzo pants.

      • Call me Bee

I’ll betcha that’s gonna be the one little detail they don’t mention–since the judges are wont to forget details about the challenges.

    • Call me Bee

I  kind of like these “inspired by a past fashion era” challenges, because I can imagine it’s kinda tough to make something inspired by…as opposed to a costume for… the era.

      • http://eclectictsunami.blogspot.com/ Cassie

Yeah, plus the judging ends up being entirely arbitrary – “too literal!” “But we wanted something MORE 20s-inspired!” They really just pick the ones they like.

    • alula_auburn

This commercial break is giving me whiplash.  Reality bra-fitting show–huh?  Holla adorable Paul Rudd!  Oh god not these obnoxious Target commercials again.  who are the ad wizards who came up with that one?

      • Stubenville

Target seems to be specializing in obnoxious commercials.

        • zelavie

They’re definitely obnoxious, but I think Old Navy wins for horrific holiday commercials this year.  They get extra points for bastardizing pop culture icons of years past.

      • Call me Bee

I know, right?  They are awful.  Even that weird shopper gal from last year was better than these obnoxious two.

        • MilaXX

nothing made me grab the remote quicker than weird shopper gal

    • MintaHallWriter

I’m going to say it really is going to be Josh, Ivy & Laura Kathleen in the bottom. Just as it should be…

      • http://frankbettecenter.org/ sleah_in_norcal

i hope so.  what a bunch of inflated egos.

    • MintaHallWriter

Oh…Laura Kathleen’s bitchiness is coming to the front…

      • Polka_Dotty

Uli’s see-through flapper dress is troubling me.

    • MintaHallWriter

OMG…can Ivy not SEE what her dress looks like?  Too long to be modern. And Josh’s styling is HORRIFIC.  I’m going to say Josh is heading home…and i haven’t even seen the runway yet.

    • zelavie

Did Josh REALLY just criticize Emilio for being to costume-y?  Wow.  Zero self-awareness.

      • http://frankbettecenter.org/ sleah_in_norcal

        insight, josh.  look into it.

      • bitchybitchybitchy

Self-awareness and Josh are antithetical, I suspect.

    • MilaXX

Josh’s dress looks like an Easter parade and he wants to throw shade at Emilio?

    • Wellworn

It comes to the front every damned week.

    • Polka_Dotty

Are we sticking around to snark on the Marchesa special, too?

    • dschubba

Justin Bieber’s has a perfume? He’s going after all of that after-school-job money, isn’t he?

      • alula_auburn

Are Bieber fans even old enough to have a job besides selling lemonade and Girl Scout cookies?

        • dschubba

Snowy driveways ain’t gonna shovel themselves.

      • http://frankbettecenter.org/ sleah_in_norcal

        my five-yr-old granddaughter loves him.

      • Peeve

He’s even written a memoir (I hate that I know that)!

        • bitchybitchybitchy

Isn’t that just too hysterical-a memoir at his age? What can you do but laugh?

          • Peeve

What is there for him to write, really? ‘I was born, I had a typical Canadian childhood, I sang on the internet and Usher discovered me, I’m waiting for puberty to hit because I still look like a teenage girl, prepubescent girls love me because I’m so non-threatening, I’m so non-threatening that I actually need something called a ‘Swagger Coach’ (really!), and now I’ve written a memoir called ‘Just Getting Started’ so that I can take even more of your babysitting money!’

    • myristica_fragrans

omg at gretchen mol being a judge.

      • http://eclectictsunami.blogspot.com/ Cassie

Wouldn’t make more sense to get BE’s actual costume designer? Gretchen’s great on the show, but what are her qualifications?

        • myristica_fragrans

well…..i guess she’s still on harvey’s good side.

        • WhiteOprah

Weren’t there numerous rumors going around about Gretchen Mol and Harvey Weinstein a few years ago?  If true…awkward.

    • http://frankbettecenter.org/ sleah_in_norcal

josh’s fabric reminds me of old choir robes.  really old.  and stinky.

      • http://frankbettecenter.org/ sleah_in_norcal

on the runway it looks more fuschia, but in the workroom i was seeing burgundy.

    • Introspective

Marchesa’s spotlight is going to involve somebody having tulle diarrhea as they walk the runway.

First time Im excited to tune into a Marchesa show. To hate watch and snark.

    • Stubenville

They’re going to give it to Anthony Ryan again.

      • MilaXX

I hated the boxiness of his dress

    • MilaXX

I like Emilio, Ivy and Uli’s

    • Call me Bee

Huh–actually all of the outfits turned out nice, except LK’s.  No pants!

      • http://eclectictsunami.blogspot.com/ Cassie

I like her outfit, it’s just not at all 20s.

        • MilaXX

and it reminds me of the pantsuit she won for earlier

      • Stubenville

Laura Kathleen’s makes her model’s “girls” look like they’re hanging to her waist.

    • Stubenville

Joshua’s looks like a pinned shower curtain.

    • Girl_With_a_Pearl

9:37 on the East Coast and I’ve just started watching.  You B.K.’s all know what everyone has sewn and I don’t, but I’m predicting it’s Ivy’s turn to go.

      • Girl_With_a_Pearl

        Very glad I was wrong.

    • guest2visits

      Crap. I think I like Ivy’s best.  Anthony’s too.

      • Polka_Dotty

        Flapper maternity dress!

    • Introspective

Ok even in such a theme-y week Schmeidi manages to pick the most hiddy interpretation of said theme. Homegirl only seems to like clunkers.

Howd she get this job again??

    • ChristinaRi

Anthony Ryan’s is hideous in my opinion.

      • MilaXX

         like a short box

    • Polka_Dotty

Art Deco was ’30s, not ’20s, duh.

      • Stubenville

You’re going to confuse the contestants with facts.

      • ChristinaRi
      • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_FBVC5LBEOWEHBYYCH3A2IZGZHI yahoo-FBVC5LBEOWEHBYYCH3A2IZGZHI

Magazines about fashion or with graphics show a lot of hardcore geometric styling (what most of us think of as art deco) in the last few years of the twenties.

    • Introspective

Josh killed himself in the styling. Great dress but the accessories are hiddy.

      • http://profile.yahoo.com/XPWSQ2BDU5XJIA23AMYVBRWZBA Eric

It’s a nice dress, but maybe a little too simple.

    • MintaHallWriter

Boy, I was right. Uli will win…I think.

      • MilaXX

         she should win

    • Stubenville

Bwahaha! One of the nasties is on their way out. I’m thinking it’s Josh.

    • Call me Bee

      Gee–I liked Ivy’s much better than AR’s (and I can’t believe I’m saying that out loud…)

      • MilaXX

         i did too

      • CozyCat

When Ivy’s model started walking, my reaction was:  “She’s out.”

Then AR’s model started:  “Oh oh.  Even worse.”

Why did they like AR’s design?  with or without the caplet, it’s awful and silly.

        • BuffaloBarbara

Oh, I’m glad I’m not the only one who thought that.  I thought, “Is there something wrong with me that I thought it was worse than Ivy’s, and I didn’t think hers was that good?”

    • http://eclectictsunami.blogspot.com/ Cassie

Ooh. Ivy’s gets less impressive the longer I look at it. And Anthony Ryan’s is…kinda slutty.

I have to admit, I appreciate how technical the critiques are on All-Stars. The regular Project Runway judges have so much posturing and catchphrase-spewing, so it’s nice to get actual precise criticism.

    • alula_auburn

I am really not seeing what they like in Joshua’s.  It looks totally sad to me.

I feel bad for how much I’m enjoying them call LK’s pants dowdy.

      • MintaHallWriter

I’m with you. I think it was pretty hiddy.  But if the color and fabric were changed, and if they fixed teh styling it would be…not so hiddy.

Not sure anything would fix those horrible pants that didn’t fit from L-K and Ivy’s taste level is just awful.

      • http://frankbettecenter.org/ sleah_in_norcal

i hate that burgundy/fuschia with grey/silver combo on josh’s.  the only part i liked was the slice of chartreuse in the back.

    • MintaHallWriter

Huh. I think I’m okay with dumping either Ivy or Laura Kathleen. Judges’ comments were pretty good, weren’t they?

      • Stubenville

        Both

      • Introspective

Best judging by far for the entire season thus far. In terms of the critiques they actually seemed measured. But inexplicably Uli didnt win when she should have. But we all know AR is set to win so oh well.

    • Peeve

Thanks to you both for brightening up 2012 for all the Bitter Kittens! I check in pretty much every day, and love to read your take on things–especially the snark, because that’s so me! Hope you and everyone have a lovely Christmas. Spiked eggnog for the bar on me!

    • Introspective

I have to say that I hate that fur vest LK made as it looks sooo deflated and ratty. And the pants seem so uninteresting and too fucking big. Mega palazzo. And NOT 20s

The glass beading just are a non factor. So overall its looking majorly ho hum next to Ulis extravaganza. which I love

Ivy surprised the shit out of me. She did something younger than her usual. And it was nice. But surprise surprise the judges are fawning over AR. but honestly his is truly a kick ass dress this wk.

      • http://frankbettecenter.org/ sleah_in_norcal

ivy’s dress would have looked more youthful if it was shorter.  that below the knee hemline really dragged it down and made it feel heavy.

        • http://profile.yahoo.com/XPWSQ2BDU5XJIA23AMYVBRWZBA Eric

I appreciate what Ivy was trying to do with the chevron pattern, but the judges were right- it’s beautiful in the back but looks draggy in the front.  Maybe if she’d broken it up with a panel, or some sort of belt. The feathers looked wrong- there should have been more or none.

      • http://profile.yahoo.com/DBSIHWVY4ECXGNXAXFXJMSCNIE Katrin

I loved Uli’s, but I thought it was too similar to not one but two of her other dresses. She could have at least changed the color.

    • dschubba

If this storm keeps my best friend from making it home for Christmas/New Year’s, I’m gonna go crazy.

    • dschubba

      …what?

    • Stubenville

      Called it.

    • zelavie

      No.

    • http://eclectictsunami.blogspot.com/ Cassie

Ugh Anthony Ryan AGAIN? WHY THOUGH

    • m0r0

UGH! Anthony Ryan’s look won? UGH! It was a hideous box. Unbelievable.

      • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_3JSTXMWWVZN2QNP2UEKJMTWD7U Isabel

        Looked like a Twiggy dress.

        • m0r0

But I thought it was fresh and modern?

          • http://profile.yahoo.com/DBSIHWVY4ECXGNXAXFXJMSCNIE Katrin

What bothered me most about it was that collar. Not the cape thing, the actual collar of the dress.

        • http://profile.yahoo.com/XPWSQ2BDU5XJIA23AMYVBRWZBA Eric

Yes! It looked like the 20′s interpreted through the 60′s.  It would have been great for a Mod challenge.

      • http://frankbettecenter.org/ sleah_in_norcal

reminded me of what we used to call “shorty pajamas”.  this consisted of a baby doll top and a pair of bloomers that were barely covered by the top.

        • SewingSiren

I thought that too. I really didn’t hate any of the dresses, but his was the worst in my opinion. I knew they wouldn’t send him home. But I didn’t think he would win!

        • BobStPaul

All I could think of from the moment it appeared on the runway was peignoir.  Unbelievable.

        • MoHub

Which is very Mary Quant, but she did it in unbleached muslin.

      • Girl_With_a_Pearl

Anthony Ryan’s cape thing looked like a poor version of one of Chris March’s designs.

      • bitchybitchybitchy

When Schmeidi announced AR as the winner I decided that I’m done with this round of PR.  I’m simply flummoxed that he continues to be so overpraised for turning out, at best, OK garments. The judges keep blithering as if he’s the second coming of Alexander McQueen or Christian  LaCroix.
Whatev. I’ll just what other BK’s do, and keep up with the insanity through my favorite blog!

      • MoHub

Box is the very word that sprang to my mind when I saw Anthony Ryan’s dress. What are the judges seeing that we don’t see? Uli was robbed.

But on the other hand, I cheered audibly when Laura Kathleen was sent packing.

    • alula_auburn

LOL, way to be gracious there, Anthony Ryan.

    • MilaXX

should be LK for the auf, but I bet it’s Ivy

      • MoHub

Bet you were pleasantly surprised. I sure was.

    • MilaXX

color me surprised, the right one went home

    • Stubenville

Pity. I guess the judges like embellishments, Laura Kathleen.

      • CozyCat

Has LK ever looked at a Marchesa design?

        • Stubenville

          Apparently not.

    • dschubba

I wish I could feel bad about LK going home, but … meh.

    • alula_auburn

Well, since obviously Ivy’s not going to win, I’d rather get rid of LK a week earlier.  So obnoxious.

    • Introspective

Buh bye Blenley. You and your pajama palazzos will not be missed.

    • Wellworn

Ding dong, the bitch is gone….which old bitch?  The priviledged bitch!

    • Polka_Dotty

      Loved Ivy’s reaction! Shocked!

    • guest2visits

I missed the first half of show – I don’t know what all drama I missed.
I gotta say: I love what she did with the feathers at the bottom of the dress.  I like how it walked too.
Leather does seem an odd choice material, though.

    • MilaXX

I wonder if TLo are in the audience for this

      • Polka_Dotty

I’m following them on Twitter. At least we know they’re in the TV audience for this.

        • MilaXX

          I missed them

    • BuffaloBarbara

I think Ivy lucked out that Laura Kathleen put out such a crappy outfit.  I loved the idea of Ivy’s, and the fabric was gorgeous, but it looked like the model was carrying a hundred pounds on her shoulders.  But at least she didn’t have a shiny crotch.  So, good call, judges.

I really didn’t like Anthony’s particularly well, and would have happily given the win to Uli.  But then, I haven’t been instructed to give wins to Anthony when there is the slightest chance of it.  I liked Emilio’s dress a lot, actually, but they’re right that it was really on the nose ’20s.  I did “You Can’t Take It With You” in high school, and wore a dress with that exact shape.  I loved that dress and looked awesome in it, but it was, in fact, a 20s costume.  Didn’t really care all that much for Josh’s.

      • Polka_Dotty

I wore that dress to my friend’s Februray 1974 afternoon wedding. In a synagogue. So, just right for a garden party, no?

      • ThaliaMenninger

You Can’t Take It With You was from the 30s. It won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in ’37. The judges mentioned Ginger Rogers, thinking the Astaire/Rogers pics from the late 30s, as well. Emilio can say it was the late 20s all he wants, but it looked way more 30s to me.

        • BuffaloBarbara

Huh.  You’re right, it would have to be, wouldn’t it?  Oh, well.  True enough.  But either way, it’s a direct reference of a historical costume, not an updating of it.

          • ThaliaMenninger

I hear you on the costume thing. Definitely.

        • Lilithcat
          • SewingSiren

            Yep. His was my favorite.

          • sarah jacobs

Thank you for the visual reference.

      • MoHub

What I liked was that Emilio had the fashion knowledge to understand that there is no single “20s look and that by the end of the decade, clothing was beginning to look more like what he made. Bert would be so proud.

I’m reminded of the “Hair Through the Eras” challenge on Shear Genius, where one of the periods was “Victorian.” Victoria was on the throne 64 years, and there were multiple styles throughout, but of course, everyone interpreted “Victorian” only as 1870s and ’80s.

        • BuffaloBarbara

Yeah, that struck me too, in contrast to the little conversation with Burt and Victor about “Elizabethan” vs. “Victorian” where we got, “Why should I need to know that?”

I do think the show is a little nuts to not let them have some references for historical periods that they might need to brush up on.  A little library in the workroom would only be helpful in increasing creativity.

    • Pam Winters

I usually go to the Hair Cuttery, but every now and then I hit a fancy salon, and it’s always nice to get to wear Anthony Ryan’s smock there.

    • BookishBren

Laura Kathleen has posted on twitter before that she is “edited” to come across this way.

She really got the uber bitch “edit” tonight. Daaang. I would have sent Ivy home, but I am okay with LK going home.

      • Call me Bee

People have used that excuse since the dawn of reality TV.  Edited it may be, but somewhere along the line, those words came out of your mouth.

        • BookishBren

I agree completely (hence my use of quotation marks–ha!). When LK tweeted tonight that she wouldn’t be watching, I knew she was a goner.

    • Introspective

We have said it many times before but Dance Moms really is a shitshow. And that lady shouldnt be around anyones children. I cant with her.

      • http://profile.yahoo.com/DBSIHWVY4ECXGNXAXFXJMSCNIE Katrin

        Or anybody, really. She’s scary.

      • bitchybitchybitchy

I don’t know who is worse: Abby, or LIfetime for giving her a platform to show how obnoxious she is.  If I had a child I’d make damn sure their path would never cross hers.

      • pdquick

The ad was the cleverest of hers ever. But you could not pay me enough to watch that show. I can’t with her, either.

        • http://profile.yahoo.com/XPWSQ2BDU5XJIA23AMYVBRWZBA Eric

I agree- I hate the show, but the ad is funny. I think they’re trying to play her personality down to attract new viewers.

    • http://profile.yahoo.com/DBSIHWVY4ECXGNXAXFXJMSCNIE Katrin

Uh oh, Ivy is getting the Skype Phone Call Of Doom next week! And how cute that she’s talking to her work husband.

      • CozyCat

My prediction:  next week Ivy will get her Personal Redemption where she gets to show that she is a Nice Person.  And she will win!  (because Lifetime Programming Ruling # 33:  nice people always win).  Josh will be sent home…

Then the next week they will boot Ivy’s newly redeemed behind to make room for the ultimate coronation of the chosen winner.

        • carolclark12

Lifetime must have changed to that Programming Ruling after Gretchen won.

      • l_c_ann

Ivy has a blog and it’s linked on the Project Runway blog.  Ivy indicated that she and Casanova have had a falling out and are no longer working together and that she’s taken a job with a designer.

        • BP180

          Awww.  Disappointing.

    • Girl_With_a_Pearl

Glad I was wrong about Ivy.  Uli should have won.

      MWAHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • guest2visits

Since I missed the first half of the show; I don’t know how they got paired up or how much cash they had, or what the other
      guidelines were.
I liked Ivy’s walking the best, she got me with the feathers (shades of Laura Bennett); but the judges pointed out the leather
and the general heft of the fabric, which did seem like alot – when standing next to Uli’s and Anthony’s much more ethereal looks.
Uli’s truly had a pretty-girl look, a very pleasing and interesting placement of all her materials. The only drawback for me is the
shawl, which I think the outfit needed to be extra special; and yet there was something Christmas-y about the silver shawl that
made me think of the last challenge.
Anthony’s was also more impressive with the feathered shawl than without; I’m not sure who’s back was finished nicer; I have a
feeling it’s Uli’s – but I gotta see the stills. Laura K’s was nothing without the fur shawl, imo; I don’t know why they raved about
the top so much. I thought the color was a hideous choice, and the pants portion were a wreck. I felt she was the auf.
Josh’s colors were also unattractive, but the dress was a good design, I even liked the pin.
Emilio’s gave me some concern; the print seemed dated, and I thought the finishing with the lace was not so great.
He may have been more authentic, but it didn’t feel as trendy as it needed to be, pretty but not A-game.
      Honestly; for this challenge, I think I need to see and compare the backs of three different looks up close;
Uli, Anthony, and Ivy.  Maybe that will help determine which look is the most desirable to wear for today’s woman.

    • SewingSiren

I thought this was a pretty good challenge. With pretty good results. Emilio’s was my favorite. Ryan Anthony’s was my least favorite. I knew he would go home. and I knew he wouldn’t even lose his match, but win, that I didn’t guess…. Until the drool started. Then I guessed but only in a cynical way.
