It’s Thursday, darlings! And we all know what that means! Time to celebrate that it’s the day before the day the weekend starts! The end is in sight, y’all!

Now let’s all jet off to Munich and sit in a dark bar, looking mysterious, shall we?

The Martini Club, Munich

Fabulous. We’re practicing our arched eyebrow and knowing look as we speak.

Guest judge Diane von Furstenberg, Isaac Mizrahi, Georgina Chapman and Carolyn Murphy.

Also fabulous is the return of Aunt Diane to the judging panel.

Robert Hammond and Joshua David from “Friends of the High Line” with Carolyn Murphy.

Although we have absolutely no idea what the challenge is about this week.

We’re at the halfway point, so who do you think’s going to make it to the final? Or more accurately, who among the remaining designers are the obvious cannon fodder. We’re thinking Casanova’s past his expiration date.

For my money it’s Anthony Ryan, Emilio and Uli for the final 3
Oh and uncle Kiltd needs a BIG glass of champagne this week.

      • Rand Ortega

         Ditto!

        • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

I’m assuming that ditto, includes the champagne. (Handing over a glass)

          • Rand Ortega

             It has to! Cheers! (*clink*)

          • AlexisPayne

Ditto to both, though I’d love an ice cold Prosecco. Cheers and kisses darlings!!!

        • Louise Bryan

Ditto, ditto.  Hold the champagne, though.  So uncultured am I, I prefer asti. Another who has overstayed my welcome is Laura Kathleen.

          • Rand Ortega

To quote 1 of my favorite movies, You just said a cotton pickin’ mouthful!
            Asti’s delish, particularly in martinis.

      • Violina23

You can have my drink, because I’m pregnant and must live vicariously through others in terms of my alcohol intake until June ;)

      • Janet B

I’m with you on the top three.  I’ll go fetch a bottle for you.
        Tough week?

        • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

It’s December, and I’m a manager at a retail store. I think that puts it out cleanly. Lol

          • Call me Bee

Oh that explains it well.  I have two daughters in retail–I never see them this time of year.  Just goes with the territory, so we sometimes have Christmas in July when they are both free.

          • MilaXX

You have my sympathies. I have worked retail before. Holiday’s are extra cray.

          • Peeve

Been there, done that–you have all of my sympathy! And as much champagne as you want. I’ll buy with my mythical TLo dollars!

Whoops! Just noticed others are buying before me. I’ll put my credit on a future tab…

          • tinyredlocks

Pass the bottle-I work retail at a store in an upscale mall, so I feel your pain.

            • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

“But you had them here LAST week!” (Sighing heavily)

            • tinyredlocks

“Do you work here?” (asked by a customer while I was wearing a Tshirt with the company name on both the front AND back, as well as a name tag with said company name, and while putting stock from a cart onto shelves.
              Oy vey….

            • Louise Bryan

I took a seasonal job this year to help pay for textbooks, lab fees, etc.  Next year I must forego this pleasure in favor of sticking needles in my eyes, which will surely be less painful.

      • Call me Bee

        Room for me?
Ach, Munchen!  This lounge is so moderne–love it!  After the champagne (I’ll get the next bottle, Kiltd) I may just have to have a Weissbier mit Zitron.
Oh–the TV show.  I’m guessing Anthony Ryan will be in the top three (of course…) along with Uli and probably Emilio, unfortunately.   Emilio’s work has been very good, but he’s such an a-hole.  I just don’t like him, so I don’t want him to win.  He’d turn into even a bigger a-hole.

        • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

Virtual or not, there is always room for you, Bee.

        • Lisa_Cop

But Emilio has been great about staying out of any drama this season.

        • MilaXX

I think Emilio saw himself on tv and made an attitude adjustment. Unlike Ivy who talked about changing, Emilio just did it. He’s been doing the strongest work all season, and I truly hope if he continues, he is awarded accordingly.

          • Call me Bee

Well yeah I guess you guys are right.  But I still don’t like him.

          • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

Also, a lot of his attitude came from interaction with Tim — maybe they just have some major clashing.

            • MilaXX

              good point

      • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_PBGUD7Y6KYRNL7PCKYNPD2UGSM Carol

I agree that it will be AR, Emilio, and Uli in the final three.  I may or may not have a beer tonight, but I’m making stir-fry for dinner.

I’m a little undecided about watching tonight’s show.  Turner Classic Movies is showing Casablanca and, at 10:00, The Third Man.  I’ll probably tune it as I’ve seen Casablanca several times lately including twice on the big screen.  I will at least try to catch the scene where Paul Henreid leads the patrons of Rick’s (well, except for the Nazis!) in La Marseillaise.

        • http://viridianpostcard.blogspot.com/ viridian61

Oh OH!  Now I know I’ll have to switch channels.  I’ll keep drinking Champagne (Paul Henried has a champagne cocktail at the bar with Berger – have I watched this too many times?).  How lucky you saw it on the big screen.

          • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_PBGUD7Y6KYRNL7PCKYNPD2UGSM Carol

I’ve seen Casablanca on the big screen three time: the first time in the 70s as a student at the University of Georgia, and twice this year with a couple of my daughters when TCM screened it.  It’s just so much more wonderful on an actual movie screen.

      • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_ZBFH32YG44LIIZYLSQPMBXMYCU Sarah

I will share with you some of mine. I went to Sam’s Club yesterday and got a deal on a 10 pack of bottles. Not the finest, but the most copious, so I’m happily generous!

        • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

Bless your sweet heart. In fact, in the real world I just ordered two cases of my favorite for my big Xmas Day Open House. I always has a few extra, so I’ll share back!

      • http://www.facebook.com/Murphy.J.Colin Colin Murphy

Ivy’s been stronger than Uli so far though

      • MoHub

I agree on the final three, but I believe Lifetime will not allow Uli to win since she’s from the Bravo years. Hoping the win goes to Emilio, as I liked him in his original season and feel Anthony Ryan is grossly overrated.

    • donnaINseattle

I often think Georgina and Carolyn confuse “judging” with “prom” . . .

    • Violina23

I think Laura’s overdue, Casanova’s actually been more impressive this time than his first outing on the actual show. I don’t care for Ivy’s stuff AT ALL, but the judges seem to love her.

I’m guessing the finale will be Anthony Ryan (since he’s been crowned the winner by the producers, right?), Emilio (who is the one who will probably deserve it) and Uli

This is the first PR I’ve really been actively BORED, and haven’t bothered to watch until a few days later. I know it’s been going downhill for years, but I don’t think I’ve ever been less vested in the results.

*** edited: I originally thought Josh or Ivy for the 3rd finalist, but I completely forgot about Uli! Shows how much of an impression the designers are making on me this time :P

      • LesYeuxHiboux

I feel like Elena from the last regular season was doing a more interesting version of Ivy’s work.

      • ccm800

I agree on Casanova. He is a much better designer than he gets credit for and I think he played his crazy hand to heavily and it’s held against him. Anthony Ryan is so overpraised it makes me mad. I also think Uli’s hodge podge over embellished nonsense is way overpraised as well.

    • benjamin478

I’d love to see Uli, Althea, and Emilio in the finals I think.

    • gabbilevy

Schmiedi’s got a real weird thing going on with her boob-fabric, no? Both dresses.

      • kimmeister

        Totally!

    • MilaXX

I’m thinking Emilio, AR & Ivy final 3
Georgina Chapman;s pink dress is hiddy.

      • Melvis Velour

it looked like someone barfed Pepto – after too many bottles of champers – onto muslin and someone bunched it around her

    • NDC_IPCentral

I’m about to decamp from IP Central for the train and the ‘umble abode, so keep the Champers chilled, Kiltdntiltd until I’m a chez moi and can hoist a virtual flute.

Yes, I think Casanova, amusing though he is, looks pretty vulnerable.  And whether he can make an eco-friendly garment?  Then again, who among these can?  I put my money, yet again, on Emilio, who’s design maturity and focused approach to his work puts him considerably above most/all of these All-Stars.

      • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

Will do, m’dear! I’d say its a toss up between LK and Casanova for this evenings Auff.

        • Call me Bee

Agreed.  Both have been circling the drain for a while.  Josh, too.

          • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_ZBFH32YG44LIIZYLSQPMBXMYCU Sarah

“Circling the drain” – good analogy. Josh, oh boy, it would almost be more fun if he pulled out something made with impeccable taste and design. I don’t know if he’s capable, but it would sure be entertaining to see.

            • Lisa_Cop

Josh’s idea about asscahps last week was horrifying.

            • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_ZBFH32YG44LIIZYLSQPMBXMYCU Sarah

Hence my dubiousness about his capability. I believe the challenge tonight is for a red carpet gown. There is no way he can get ass chaps into that equation, and if he does, it will be monumentally enjoyable, so I’m pretty excited to see what happens.

            • Call me Bee

Oooh but he could still come up with something wonderfully awful and tacky…(I so hope…)

    • http://www.thirteen.org/insidethirteen Gotham Tomato

Oooh, DVF!! She’s worth staying up for for sure!

And for those unfamiliar with the Highline, if they are filming down near the Standard Hotel (which straddles the southern end of the Highline) watch the windows: People like to flash the passerby below from those windows.–GothamTomato

    • kimmeister

Laura and Joshua are cannon fodder.

Georgina must be wearing one of her own designs.

    • Stubenville

Hmmmm…. not a good sign. Project Ennui isn’t showing up on the FiOS onscreen channel guide, but they’ve been wrong before.

I sincerely hope Laura Kathleen is schmauffed tonight. Or Ivy. Even better, toss in Josh and make it a triple elimination. One can only hope.

      • Call me Bee

A triple elimination would be freekin’ awesome.

        • MilaXX

I love that for the mot part Tom manages to straddle the line between reality tv famewhoredom and professional standards.

        • Stubenville

Oh Bee I missed that. I love it when the judges actually act like judges.

    • Jena Marie DiPinto

I’m so done with Princess Muffy Entitledshire… but I think we’ve got to endure another week or two before the judges can her.
(I’m not judging her on having grown up with privilege… I’m judging her for allowing it to be such a defining personality trait.)

      • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

Oh lord how I love your name for LK.!!!!!

        • Jena Marie DiPinto

I originally considered Princess Muffy O’Privilege or McSpoiled, but we all know how WASPs feel about the Irish. (Too much? Too far? Sorry, must be my Irish temper.)

        • watchmeboogie

           Ditto! Actual LOL.

      • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_ZBFH32YG44LIIZYLSQPMBXMYCU Sarah

What you said. She is highly tiresome. Begone, twit!

    • Lily-Rygh

Let’s talk about the REAL story here:  what in the holy hell is Carolyn wearing in that outdoor shot??  Jesus H.  Pink cable knit sleeves, blinking eyelid boobs, sheer bodice the color of dead white people that comes down into a square cut whateverthehellyoucallthat, and an Oxydol white skirt?   Normally my eyes only cry when I, myself, cry.  This time they are crying of their own volition.

      • http://profile.yahoo.com/6PQUNH7VYANAXMRMEEM763V3EU victor liu

Let’s not forget what she’s wearing in the indoor shot. Shiny, puckery LBD with flotation-boobs?

        • http://frankbettecenter.org/ sleah_in_norcal

that flotation boob effect goes for both photos.  is she wearing an inflatable bra?

    • altalinda

Cannon fodder:  Casanova, LK, Althea, Josh, Ivy.

      • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_ZBFH32YG44LIIZYLSQPMBXMYCU Sarah

I am glad you put Ivy in the bottom. I don’t think she’s got the chops to make it to the top, either. It’s like she’s got this illusory quality of being good, but she makes bad choices every time, and I just never like her designs as much as I want to.

        • altalinda

So far, I’ve liked most of Ivy’s stuff better than Anthony Ryan’s, so if it were my choice I’d probably put her in the top 3.  But Anthony Ryan seems to be the golden boy with the judges, so fat chance he’ll be eliminated.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_ZBFH32YG44LIIZYLSQPMBXMYCU Sarah

Casanova and Althea, probably, are easy pickins. I am thrilled that today is today, and tomorrow is tomorrow. I didn’t know, honestly, because I am in the midst of term papers and exams, and forgot it was Thursday, and that I have the day off tomorrow. Even if I have to spend all day immersed in post-1945 American art and also the major works of Maxfield Parrish (worse fates exist, indeed) I am assured a night of fun and champagne, so I am truly grateful.

    • bluefish

Isaac looks like he’s holding onto  DvF for dear life!  As if to get away from the exploding fuschia orchid that is the bee-you-tee-fool Georgina and the femmebot we call Carolyn Murphy.  Should be a good episode.  What in heaven’s name is CM wearing in the A-Line photo?

      • http://frankbettecenter.org/ sleah_in_norcal

she’s wearing an frankendress that was assembled just a moment ago in a thrift shop somewhere nearby.

    • http://viridianpostcard.blogspot.com/ viridian61

I too am in the midst of papers, exams, and last minute excuses.  Fun tonight!

      • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_ZBFH32YG44LIIZYLSQPMBXMYCU Sarah

Yes! Forget about the schooling, tonight is for FASHION!

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_ZBFH32YG44LIIZYLSQPMBXMYCU Sarah

Just looked on Lifetime’s website and they said the challenge is a red carpet dress using only “green materials.” So, poor Kayne is furious he missed this one, and Anthony Ryan had better look out and not do another Mondrian sheath.

    • LesYeuxHiboux

Casanaova, Josh M, Laura Kathleen, Ivy you are all OWUT.

    • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gabriella M

I love the High Line, but I bet it’s another stupid inspiration challenge.

      • Swiftlytiltingplanet

I’ve never been to New York (I know!) but should I ever get there, the High Line is one of the things I. have. to. see.  The whole idea of it amazes me.

        • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gabriella M

If you go, go when it’s warm. There are all these wonderful (but annoyingly New York priced) street vendors; I had a great raspberry+basil snow cone after a free yoga session at a nearby ground-level park.
Also, google the Low Line. It’s still a concept as yet but I’m crossing my fingers for it.

    • http://profile.yahoo.com/6PQUNH7VYANAXMRMEEM763V3EU victor liu

Uli and Emilio are definitely getting there through talent. AR is getting there through producer manipulation, so I’d rather see him replaced by Ivy or Althea.

    • http://profile.yahoo.com/6PQUNH7VYANAXMRMEEM763V3EU victor liu

The entire judging panel has very awkward hands this week.

    • BuffaloBarbara

Althea’s been consistently in the middle, so she’s probably designated fodder.  Much as I hate to say it, so is Casanova.  Ivy doesn’t deserve to be, but, as with Wendy, she is not doing her designated job as bitch, and has therefore outlived her producer usefulness.  Laura Kathleen, unfortunately, is doing said job, so she’ll be there a while.

      • Pennymac

         Yes, what you said!

    • http://frankbettecenter.org/ sleah_in_norcal

wait,  it’s dark in here, who are you, who am i where are we…..oh, Tlounge, munich…i’m ok now.  HI EVERYBODY!  i have some sort of inner ear thing (self-diagnosed) and have had serious dizziness for a few days now, so i’ve not had a drink in real life yet.  we’ll see if i can take pr sober.

anyways…i’m lining up my candidates for execution:  blondie with heavy brows, missyboy with the perfectly tweezed ones, poison oak/ivy who believes black and white sheer fabric is visionary.  i’m keeping casanova, just because i adore him, my little latin pet. and he is so talented, but i think he often has trouble finding the jist of the challenge due to his language.  when you’re speaking a second language, even if you’re fluent, it’s difficult to read between the lines and get the “gestalt” of a concept.  i hope emilio is helping him some with that.

i think the rest of them all have a shot, i’d like to see the final two be emilio and uli.  we’ll see…

      • watchmeboogie

Google “Epley Maneuver” – it’ll change your life if you’ve got inner ear particle wonkies. There’s a version you can do yourself at home on YouTube.

        • Wellworn

Thanks, going to look it up now.

          • watchmeboogie

            I hope it’s helpful.

            • Wellworn

              Thanks, it actually was.

      • Wellworn

I taught English second language learners for almost 30 years, and I can tell that Casanova isn’t quite fluent.  His English is much improved since the first time around.  Then it did feel that he didn’t quite understand everything that was going on, including the instructions for the challenges.  I speak Spanish pretty fluently, but when I have had to use it for work I agree it makes things more difficult when it’s not your first language.  Emilio and Uli seem to be much more fluent than Casanova, but I think he’s doing better this season.  His dress was so good tonight, and I wonder why it was ignored.

        • http://frankbettecenter.org/ sleah_in_norcal

what do you take for your dizziness?  i’ve been taking the over the counter less drowsy dramamine (cimetidine) but it’s hard to say how much it helps.

i’m also fairly fluent in spanish, but when it comes to culture concepts, such as “androgyny” i can get lost pretty quick.  they say you’re fluent when you can understand jokes.  i had a friend who went to a comedy club in mexico city, thinking she was pretty fluent, and she said she was never so lost in her life.  so i think his language skills may still hold him back a bit.  such excellent skills, though, and he’s gained so much since his season.  and such a charmer!  i love his humor: “new york and i have each other by one ball…”  something like that.

          • Wellworn

I agree, it takes years to become really fluent.  People who have never learned another language, especially as an adult, don’t understand how hard it is to really learn one.
Re: the meds – a diuretic for the fluid in my ear and low dosage of Valium.  It takes at least a couple of days to work.  I looked up the Dix-Hallpike and Epley maneuvers on You Tube and they were really helpful, too. Good luck with your dizziness, I hope it’s better soon.

    • Pennymac

Oh, Ivy, you’re making me sick with your sun inspiration spiel!

      • Polka_Dotty

It looks like a heavy fabric — not going to look “sunny” at all.

        • Pennymac

           Its her typical beige-y shmatta

          • http://profile.yahoo.com/6PQUNH7VYANAXMRMEEM763V3EU victor liu

The Ivy Higa rainbow: bandaid, hospital curtain, off-white, grey, beige, and greige.

            • http://profile.yahoo.com/6PQUNH7VYANAXMRMEEM763V3EU victor liu

Oops, almost forgot “old bra” and “dust”.

            • Pennymac

               Nicotine stained sheers, as well.

    • zenobar

Am I hallucinating that Schmeidi’s summer dress has big chunky cable-knit sleeves?  Is the wine playing tricks on my mind?

    • Polka_Dotty

Emilio is strategizing already. I pick him FTW.

      • http://profile.yahoo.com/XPWSQ2BDU5XJIA23AMYVBRWZBA Eric

This time around he’s actually likeable.  On his season there was a lot of drama between him and Tim Gunn.

        • CarolinLA

Tim was not his usual professional self regarding Emilio.  He showed his disdain very clearly that season to the point that I felt it was beneath him.

    • Stubenville

Oh Princess, puhleeeze make a romper!

    • ChristinaRi

      Hi, Everybody!

    • ChristinaRi

I kind of hate Laura Kathleen’s fabric.

But I’m worried about Uli pumping up the volume.

    • Stubenville

OH Uli – gurl, don”t pull a Jerrell and over trim.

    • Swiftlytiltingplanet

I find that I have an irrational hatred of Anthony Ryan’s hair.

      • Polka_Dotty

I find that I have a rational hatred of Anthony Ryan’s hair.

        • http://profile.yahoo.com/6PQUNH7VYANAXMRMEEM763V3EU victor liu

I find that I have a rational hatred of Anthony Ryan.

    • Stubenville

It’s Josh – of course it will be hideous, Joanna!

    • Stubenville

Ivy – short is not usually classic red carpet.

    • ChristinaRi

Josh, that statement about Ivy was not the insult you intended it to be.

    • Stubenville

Althea’s fabric is going to get her auffed.

      • ChristinaRi

Such dreary colors.   She likes those muted colors that just look muddy to me.

        • Polka_Dotty

Didn’t she get the last choice? Emilio got the only good fabric, I think. At least it’s a great color. Not sure about the weight of it.

          • demidaemon

Yes, but she had more than one option. It’s not like polka dots were the only thing she could have done. She had the most limited choice, yes, but still a choice.

    • http://frankbettecenter.org/ sleah_in_norcal

ivy is making no sense at all.  “i’m inspired by the sun because every woman should feel like a star on the red carpet.”  what?!?  “i usually make either maxi dresses or short dresses, so this is really challenging for me”  yeah, ivy…..carry on.

    • Polka_Dotty

Ivy should trim her palazzo pants down to granny panties and a sheer overlay. ‘Cause that’s always worked for her before.

      • Stubenville

Perfect! That should get her schmauffed.

    • Stubenville

And at this point most of the designers detest each other.

    • Pennymac

We’ll see is Schmeidi will speak slowly in one of our dresses, you mean.

    • Introspective

What in fuck’s name does schmeidi have on in the scene when she is introducing the challenge??? She looks like an accident happened and her dress got turned inside out before she stepped outside. And pepto bismol fell all over her sleeves.

I cant. Its aggressively ugly. Shes a mess. I hope tonights designs dont look nearly as ugly as this dreck.

Ok enough with my rant. Phew!

    • guest2visits

Uli, you’re worrying me; why did I know that was your swatch before you even reached for it.  Too muted.
I’d like to see Emilio, Uli and possibly Althea as final 3.    Please auf Ivy as soon as possible, please. Sunshine my ass.
(though Laura is good candidate for the auf, too).

    • ChristinaRi

A little pig squealin’ in the mud!!

I don’t know what it means, but it made my eyes pop.  :D

    • ChristinaRi

Emilio.  No worries buddy.  You won a challenge with a swimsuit made out of washers and strings.  You’ll just talk your way into the win.    Why couldn’t Emilio and that chick from Trinidad whose name I can’t remember be on the same season.  That would be a riot.

      • http://frankbettecenter.org/ sleah_in_norcal

actually he didn’t win the hardware challenge, he just didn’t get sent home.  and considering that mess that he sent down., it was a blessed miracle.

    • Stubenville

Based on the workroom, Althea and Ivy for the bottom.

    • Introspective

Is anthony ryan able to work with anything thats not the color blue?

      • http://frankbettecenter.org/ sleah_in_norcal

        yeah…black and white.

      • CarolinLA

Didn’t he say once that he’s color blind?  Or was that someone else?

    • http://frankbettecenter.org/ sleah_in_norcal

ivy:  “i can’t think, i’m thinking too much…”.  yeah.  PSYCH CONSULT STAT!

    • Introspective

      Altheas fabric is hiddy!!!!

      • Swiftlytiltingplanet

         She had the last swatch.

        • Introspective

I know. But it doesnt change the ugliness of it. It just makes it bad luck for her.

Laura Kathleen is a pretty woman, but please someone give her a makeover.

      • CarolinLA

Somebody needs to give her a makeUNDER.  Scrape off a coupla layers and see what’s underneath.

    • Swiftlytiltingplanet

      Does Althea’s have TAILS?!

      • Pennymac

         Hips! (Hip tails?)

    • Pennymac

      Wow. Cassanova!

    • Polka_Dotty

Embarrassing…I love Casanova’s dress. But it’s not Red Carpet material.

      • Stubenville

The shape is fine, but the fabric is all wrong.

      • MilaXX

I think I would like it for say the Golden Globes

    • Stubenville

      Josh – meh
Uli – more clubbing than red carpet
Althea – accident in the secretarial pool
      Casanove – top three?
      Anthont Ryan – muu-muu?
      Ivy – WTF?
      Laura Kathleen – resort wear
      Emilio – top three?

    • dschubba

Emilio’s clearly blocked out his hardware store garment. Good for him.

    • ChristinaRi

Emilio is definitely gonna get the win.

      Makes me laugh.

Geez, does Issac have a crush on Anthony Ryan, or what?

    • MilaXX

are they seriously not going to say something about AR using blue EVERY. DAMNED. WEEK!?

      • DeTrop

Maybe because he’s color blind, blue shows up as prettiest??????  Who knows?

    • Wellworn

How can they like Antony Ryan’s?  So unflattering and ugly!

    • Call me Bee

Oh my gosh I cannot believe the love for AR’s ugly (as Isaac said,) Hare Krishna bedsheet.  UGH!!

      • Polka_Dotty

It’s a maternity gown for Cathy Cambridge.

    • zelavie

AR’s dress adds miles to the model’s hips – but of course, the judges couldn’t point that out.  They must never criticize the chosen one.

    • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gabriella M

Ivy tortured that fabric. She’s probably going home.

      • http://profile.yahoo.com/XPWSQ2BDU5XJIA23AMYVBRWZBA Eric

Nice concept, wrong fabric, awful execution.

    • ChristinaRi

      They like Uli’s dress.

You could knock me over with a feather.

      • Girl_With_a_Pearl

I know!  Uli has always been one of my all-time favorites, but I thought she was going to end up bottom 3 (with no danger of going home).

    • zelavie

Also, I’m disappointed that Cassanova isn’t top 3.  Yes, it’s a fairly simple design, but he used the material in such a great way.  That flash of red inside the skirt was fantastic.

      • Wellworn

I loved the circular sweep of the skirt and the subtle echo of the circle at the bodice.  And the design went well with that fabric.

    • lessax3

Another round of if I like it the judges don’t and if I hate it the judges like it. I also am thinking they should just declare Anthony the winner of the whole thing and just stop pretending this is an actual competition. Blah. Tired and in a bad mood.

      • Pennymac

Then I must be too. Because I love what the hate and hate what they love. FRUSTRATED!

    • dschubba

Althea’s looks like Andie Walsh’s prom dress.

    • Call me Bee

I thought for sure Georgine would love Ivy’s with all the pleating and draping and all the manipulation.

    • dharmabum8

Anthony Ryan’s gown has issues but since they’re all imperfect I have to admit his is kinda my favorite. (ducking) I can’t decide if Althea or Ivy’s dress is worse.

    • ChristinaRi

      DvF is such a Lady.

    • Wellworn

“No woman wants to look wide at the waist and narrow at the shoulder.”  was the criticism of Laura Kathleen, but didn’t Anthony Ryan’s do the same thing?

      • zelavie

Right???  I know that expecting consistency from the judges is FAR too much…  but seriously.

      • ChristinaRi

no.  It made her look wide all over.   :p

        • Introspective

Girl did you beat me to this punch!! Anthony ryans girl looked like she was pooing fabric from both hips. I cannot with the mysterious love for his shittery.

    • Stubenville

      It’s called forbidden fruit. *snort*

    • Introspective

Casanovas dress was gorgeous. Simple but gorgeous.

      • Call me Bee

YES!  I thought for sure it would be in the top 3!!

      • Wellworn

I loved it, thought it was the best this week.  They constantly ignore him and promote their golden boy.

      • bertkeeter

        IT was the BEST!

    • lessax3

Hmmmm, are they going to get rid of Emilio before he can threaten the chosen one.

    • MilaXX

child please. You know damn well chiffon is not an easy fabric. It will snag if you look at it sideways

      • ChristinaRi

and it slides all over the place.

        • Call me Bee

Yes–but as a costume designer–Emilio knows how to deal with chiffon.  He CHOSE the fabric–he just screwed up.

          • Girl_With_a_Pearl

Perhaps not screwing up so much as not having enough time.

      • MoHub

Yep! Couldn’t believe Georgina said chiffon was easy.

    • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gabriella M

I liked LK’s and Uli’s, but Anthony will probably win because Shmeidi’s so bland.

    • Stubenville

Double Divas – another classy Lifetime show.

    • Call me Bee

Double Divas??!?!  AS bad as Amish Mafia!  (which, BTW, The Hubs just cannot wait to watch!!)

      • Stubenville

Bee, I live less than an hour away from the large Amish area of Lancaster County, PA. These are not all gentle souls just tilling the earth; many are shrewd business people. And some of the Amish would think nothing of gouging or cheating someone who wasn’t one of their own kind. In that regard, they mimic society as a whole.

        • Call me Bee

          No kidding.  Huh.
We do have a fair number of Amish here in Cheeseland as well, and I know they are pretty savvy.  But I’ve never heard about the Mafia thing.  It does make sense, but it seems like such an oxymoron, no?

        • NDC_IPCentral

Ah, I have relatives who own a 100 acre farm in Lancaster County (Christiana), and they’re the only non-Amish farm in the vicinity.  And the Amish covet that farmland of my cousin somethin’ fierce.

    • Introspective

How the judges have come to like anthony ryans dress MUST involve a collective sharing of a bong.

    • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gabriella M

If Emilio gets sent home for these stupid minor flaws, I will be annoyed.

    • dharmabum8

Pajama palazzo pajama palazzo pajama palazzo…. sorry, but it’s so fun to say.

    • ThaliaMenninger

Buh-bye Ivy. Emilio’s is the worst, but they won’t send a frontrunner home. Unless, as someone below suggested, it’s to get rid of any competition for A-R. I can’t believe it myself, but I liked Casanova’s the best this week. Uli has too much rickety-rackety happening, A-R’s is idiotic (and how in the hell do her unders show with that much fabric happening?) and L-K’s is ok, but reminded me of South Beach at 7, when Aunt Mimi is having her mimosa. All she needs is a turban. I don’t think that’s red carpet at all.

      • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gabriella M

You think Emilio’s is worse than Ivy’s? Really?

        • ThaliaMenninger

Yeah, I don’t know. Emilio’s just looked so stupid going down the runway with that unfinished hem. And the sparkly trim! Oh, dear! On the other hand, Ivy tortured her fabric and that mustard color wasn’t doing anybody any favors. UG-LY. But Emilio had the best fabric to start with. Unlike poor Althea, doomed by her fabric. I guess I am grading Emilio down for screwing up when he had a headstart by having that great color to work with.

        • Introspective

Girl nothing was worse than Ivys. Hers was just fug.

That long unnecessary tail in the front? That wonky bustline? The fabric? It was all a perfect storm of fug. If altheas looked like homework like Diane said, Ivys looked like a failed makeup exam.

      • BuffaloBarbara

         I liked Casanova’s best, too.

I thought the commentary was actually interesting on the Ivy vs. Althea thing–that Althea’s well executed look showed a problem in design thought, while the poor execution of Ivy’s was a poor execution of a design with potential.

Though by this point, Ivy should have known better than to do something as elaborate as she was planning!  No way in a PR challenge.

        • Girl_With_a_Pearl

I think that they couldn’t give Casanova the win because their planning on auffing him the very next time he has a mis-step.  Not enough drama from him than from Ivy, Laura Kathleen and Josh.  Personally, I think he has vastly improved since he was on the first time and is better than the three I just mentioned.

          • BuffaloBarbara

Yup.  I think we will need to say our fondest Vaya Con Dios next week.

    • guest2visits

Well from here, Emilio’s unfinished work is still prettier than Ivy’s or Altheas.

    • Pennymac

      Crap. Ivy is safe.

YAY UNCONVENTIONAL XMAS CHALLENGE! IN TIME FOR FINALS TO BE OVER! (So I’ll probably be extra drunk).

      • http://twitter.com/baileyleon Bailey Lovell

Right?  I have one paper and one final before graduation next Saturday!  Can’t believe it.  I swear, after that final final, I’m going to just go lie on the grass on campus and just…..be.

        • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gabriella M

College? Or grad school? Or law school? Law school has the most terrible exams I’ve ever experienced. I have an 8 hour take home on Monday, and two 4 hour in-class exams. And then a paper, but it’s for a hippy dippy class that has allowed me to write fiction, so not so bad. (if you’re counting, that’s approximately 12-16 hours of finals depending on how long the take-home takes)
So yeah, like I said, I will be VERY DRUNK.

          • EveEve

You can write fiction for your law school papers? Damn, I was definitely born in the wrong decade (on the other hand, we didn’t have the internets distracting us). In any event, good luck with it all!

            • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gabriella M

Just my seminar – Resisting Injustice. Also known as “Responding to the Patriarchy with all your FEELINGS.” But our exams are on computers now, which is a mixed thing.

    • dschubba

I assumed Althea was going to be the second runner-up this season.

      I’m dying at Emilio’s extra-long bleep.

    • Call me Bee

Awwww bu-bye Althea.  No drama–always calm and classy.

    • BuffaloBarbara

Yup, the script said “Althea leaves.”  That said, I actually agreed with the commentary that, while well-executed, the dress was about five bad ideas together.

I’m glad Ivy’s still there, because I think she has potential, but her lucky stars were shining to squeak through that, and she knows better than managing her time that badly.

I didn’t agree with the win, but if I’m to be honest, it’s because I have an irrational, vitriolic hatred of wide-legged pants, especially the palazzo pant variety, and I thought the fabric was hideous.  I didn’t like Uli’s feathers, either, and thought that AR’s was just plain ugly and shapeless.  So I didn’t agree with the top choices at all, though they were dead on with the bottom.

I’d have given the win to Casanova.  But, you know.  Irrational hatred of a particular item of clothing may play into that.

    • Polka_Dotty

Well, as DVF would say, “That’s a wrap.” [Sorry for the pun; I've been waiting 30 years for a time and place to use that.]

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_OQG2B3GDOIKSFYT6YDXFVOMEM4 A. Lure

Lots of slobbering from the judges over one of the weakest, if not the weakest, remaining designers. That Carolyn chic is flashing smiles and batting eyelashes at Laura. Vamped out seeks vamped out. And Anthony? Even if he were to send a nude model, they’d spin out his dress for her. But hey, they chose their pets, they’ll coddle them.

      Casanova should’ve won this.

    • Jordan Brodley

Yes, my perfect space. I’ll take a glass of rose and keep it coming.

    • ScarlettHarlot

I was genuinely surprised that Casanova and Joshua were only safe. Casanova’s dress was stunning, and for once Joshua made something that wasn’t super-tacky.

I thought Laura Kathleen’s was just awkward, and Uli’s was silly. I tried to think of what red carpet someone would wear Uli’s to. That said, Althea and Ivy definitely deserved to be in the bottom. Althea’s looked like it was made from the sheets off of a six year girls princess bed.

    • annaplurabelle

Casanova was robbed, and I was bored again.

    • http://frankbettecenter.org/ sleah_in_norcal

ivy enjoys wearing sheer pillowcases over hot pants.  it’s a look…

    • VicksieDo

Georgina’s dress is VAGtacular!  Um, NOOOOO.

I liked Uli’s and Casanova’s, the rest were just awful.

    • Kyle Crawford

What a crap-fest that was. I am embarrassed FOR DVF….

Was anybody else annoyed by how much they congratulated themselves for being oh so green?

    • guest2visits

Emilio. Why do you toy with me. You were almost auf’d. Bottom 3 with Ivy godamnit.  If it had been finished properly; top 3.
As far as bottom looks go; Ivy’s was the most hideous; tacky asymetry, tacky color. Badly executed.
Althea’s was about as bad, though I loved the material she had; it was pretty and delicate and I could think up alot of things to
make with it; but it wasn’t great RC material. And she pretty much destroyed it. Definitely not a RC dress. However, I thought the
last challenge where she did so much better than Ivy would have saved her tonight.
I thought Uli’s was safe in the middle with Josh’s, she saved her poor material choice but it was barely RC to me.
Anthony R’s was ok; I thought like the judges that the sheer volume of fabric was almost a mistake in the design.
I originally thought Laura’s was the ugliest print – but she managed to save it with a pretty and well fit garment; I just don’t think
of it as RC, like the judges did. It feels like caftan/resort wear garment.
Casanova’s was the biggest surprise; his fabric was also an unconventional print for the RC but it turned out to be one of the best
      dresses.

      • Kenisha Hill Phillips

I’ve seen plenty of pieces from designers’ resortwear collections on the RC. I thought that jumpsuit would look pretty at the Independent film awards.

        • guest2visits

When Diane was going on about the palazzo(?) pants of yesterday; I just kept thinking Meditterranean lounge.
Something to be worn in warm, beachy type places; suitable for day or night.
The caftan/jumpsuit design has just never appealed to me.
Which doesn’t mean Laura’s design didn’t turn out well; Carolyn and the judges obviously loved it.

    • random_poster

I just watched the preview video, and saw the POUF! My night can move forward now..

    • ccm800

Absolutely one hundred percent LOATHED Anthony Ryan’s 2 bags taped at the shoulder in bad proportion, horrid Michael Costello bad rip off piece of crap sack of a vulgar “gown”

    • bertkeeter

What is that THING CM is wearing? Looks like an AMISH field work dress from outerspace!

    • CarolinLA

Red Carpet does not mean the Oscars only.  It means movie premieres and charity functions and magazine awards dinners as well.  The Independent Spirit Awards has a very different RC than the Golden Globes or the Emmys.  The SAG awards have a much more relaxed feel than the Oscars.  There are literally hundreds of events each year that have a red carpet.  If only the designers would be more specific about where their girl was going, they would have a better shot at the win.

      • Excellence_and_Elegance

Do you have a problem with “Make a pretty dress” challenges? If so, how can you tolerate this whole season (apart from last week)?

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_FBVC5LBEOWEHBYYCH3A2IZGZHI yahoo-FBVC5LBEOWEHBYYCH3A2IZGZHI

The outfits were far less than they should have been. There was zero time.  Absolutely everyone was panicking badly 2 hours before the deadline, much worse than normal.  I think the judges are correcting for the random fail issue, but the audience doesn’t want to see consistently subpar garments.  I’m impressed with Laura Kathleens use of a fabric that seemed like a loser to me.  Hated the outfit otherwise.  Liked Uli’s, kind of unexpected, and she made something attractive out of chaos.  Anthony Ryan’s was a good start but it was too voluminous.  I think the judges like his pared down aesthetic and his pleasant personality.  Poor Althea.  She made a weird dress which had some interest but it was her time I guess.

      • Laylalola

Not just subpar — it’s often “Home Ec Mess.” And we’re halfway through an All Stars season!

    • Swiftlytiltingplanet

I hate this show. I would like to have something more pithy and interesting to say, but really, I just hate it.

I used to love Project Runway.  And that Project Runway would have produced an All-Stars worth watching.

      Now it’s all just…pointless.

      • 3boysful

Altho I am beating the dead horse, and the regular season designers are not what they were is seasons 1-5 or so, it’s the TIME issue.  You can’t expect someone to design and create a “red carpet” look in 16 or 20 hours of sewing.  Of course the end result will be either a yawn or a hot mes.

    • Laylalola

This is the second time I’ve thought Casanova should’ve at least been in the top.

    • Excellence_and_Elegance

It’s like a female version of “banana hammock” (or maybe not).

    • http://twitter.com/zombuki Ms. Bee

The video on Lifetime would not work at the end, just kept making me watch ads and then skipping 20 minutes ahead. Can’t wait for your recap to see to wins/aufs since I couldn’t handle the Lifetime fail anymore once I saw the runway. Whee!

    • MoHub

I would have had a top and bottom two, with the remaining four designers in the safe middle. Top two would have been Laura Kathleen—much as I dislike her—and Uli, with Uli getting the win. Bottom two would have been Ivy and Althea, with Ivy eliminated. Anthony Ryan’s homage to Michael Costello and Emilio’s unfortunately unfinished dresses belonged in the middle group.

    • MoHub

Aha! I’m not the only one who saw bad Michael Costello in Anthony Ryan’s monstrosity.

    • MoHub

True. She got dinged for a fabric she had no choice but to use. If life and PR were fair, there would have been at least two more swatches than the number of designers choosing.

    • MoHub

It’s like the bit in The Music Man, when the Mayor gets hung up saying:

“… our player-piano player piano player piano …”

    • MoHub

Can someone clarify a pronunciation for me? I was sure it was Al-THEE-a, but Carolyn kept saying AL-thee-a, and I’m sure it was the first time I’d heard the accent placed on the first syllable. Am I wrong about this?

    • queenceleste

Maybe it’s a difference between US and UK pronunciation, because I’ve alway heard it with the stress on the first syllable (AL-thea). This is in reply to MoHub, don’t know why it;s not posting as a reply.

      • MoHub

But Carolyn isn’t a Brit, is she? Her accent is flat American.

    • queenceleste

I don’t understand all the love for Casanova’s dress. It would have been so much better if he’d used the solid color side for the dress with a peak of the pattern as she walked.

      • Wellworn

I think then he would have been criticized for not using enough of the patterned fabric that was for the challenge.

    • SewingSiren

I liked Josh’s butterfly shirt best of all.

    • afabulous50

That bar is so dark even I’d look good..
