Solange Knowles in Olcay Gulsen

Posted on December 06, 2012

Girl, no:

Solange Knowles attends the Ermenegildo Zegna “Essenze” Collection Launch event in an Olcay Gulsen dress paired with B Brian Atwood sandals in New York City.

Olcay Gulsen Two-Slit Dress

B Brian Atwood Labrea Corded Snakeskin Sandal

While the Diana Ross hair is giving us life and the shoes are pretty sexy, we’re here to tell you, girl, that no one looks good in a tight dress with double slit action.

Girl, pack this dress up and send it … to absolutely no one. Just get rid of it. It’s awful.

Man, even the model doesn’t look good in it.

    • thesixthbeatle

Love the hair. Serving up seventies realness. She is cooler than her sister.

      • Rand Ortega

         Soooo much cooler.

        • DeborahJozayt

So cool she’s gonna need some ice trays.

      • Introspective

That hair is to die… Makeup is gorgeous. All that is wasted on this mess of a dress.

      • http://vhanna26.typepad.com Vera

        Fantastic hair!

      • H3ff

It’s so refreshing to see an R&B artist with her natural hair colour. I am so sick of bad highlights and cheap-looking dye jobs.

    • tereliz

Double slit action NEVER looks good on a dress that tight. Yikes.

      • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_ZBFH32YG44LIIZYLSQPMBXMYCU Sarah

Double slit action never looks good, period. I think, anyway. I’m wracking my brain trying to think of an instance, and the only thing I can think of is Wonder Woman in a comic book, and that’s just not a practical application.

        • Catiline

If you are Chun-Li and need to finish off your opponent with a spinning whirl kick, you can rock a double slit.

          That’s all.

    • Tatiana Luján

I want to put some anti-frizz product in her hair and trim it a bit on the sides.
The dress is awful but that color suits her very well.

      • http://dorothydamage.wordpress.com/ Dorothy Damage

         I think that’s a wig/weave.

    • Kristy Evans

It’s kind of amazing how something so simple could be SO ugly. That dress is tragic.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=555593309 Alexis Peñafuerte Wenceslao

      looks like a tribal costume

    • Kenisha Hill Phillips

      I like the color.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Micaela-Cannon/1465504041 Micaela Cannon

literally just have this one slit, or no slit at all and it would be perfectly acceptable. maybe not an exciting dress, but acceptable. Now Solange looks like a femme fatale… wearing a dress made from her last husband.

    • Trisha26

Even on the model it looks like a car chamois.

    • schadenfreudelicious

unless you’re a gladiator the double slit is a major fashion don’t…

      • Kristin McNamara

Yea, my mind went to Khal Drogo!

        • schadenfreudelicious

indeed, he and Spartacus are about the only ones who can work that look :)

          • Kristin McNamara

And boyyyy can they ever work that look! ;)

            • lovelyivy

               *fanning self*

      • DeborahJozayt

But it keeps things so airy breezy.

    • http://kingderella.tumblr.com/ kingderella

this dress makes her look downright fat.

anyway, you should all check out her new record, which is lovely.

      • MilaXX

I just saw a video the other day. Lovely

      • Kristin McNamara

The dress is ugly, no question. But you honestly think she looks “downright fat”? I shudder to think what you would call a person of my size behind closed doors! (Or on a fashion website, as it may be.) :/

        • http://kingderella.tumblr.com/ kingderella

well, compared to how she usually looks, yeah.
but i dont talk about peoples weight in their absence. or presence.
(celebrity fashion commentary is something else, of course.)

    • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

Nothing says Twenny Dollah Hooker like a two slit too tight dress.

      • Kristin McNamara

        Mmm. Preach.
Too slit. And too tight. ;)

    • http://twitter.com/foodycatAlicia foodycatAlicia

Great rings, great clutch, great shoes. The best thing I can say about the dress was if one slit was sewn up it’d be way too tight. One slit and going up a size would be the better option though.

    • Lily-Rygh

A classic example of Scrolldown Fug.

      • Annabelle Archer

I thought the very same thing.

      • Alisa Rivera

        You beat me to it.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_VZLU6YVO4BRTELTTH3GRAAMWZQ Dot

Seriously, this dress looks like a Flinstone costume of some sort. It looks even worse on the model.

      • kimmeister

Agreed, I immediately thought “fancy loin cloth.”

    • charlotte

This is Lea Michele’s dress (although she would have the neckline altered). Solange is far too fabulous for it!

    • MarissaLG

Everything is great except from the hips to the knees. I agree, T-Lo. LIVING for the hair.

    • bookish

Well, her nail polish color is nice at least. :)

      • DeborahJozayt

I like the ring on her left hand, too! Very beautiful gold.

    • sharialbert

      AMEN!!

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1594250515 Kim Brightman

The double slit dress is a turn-off but she looks about as gorgeous as I’ve ever seen her.  Love the hair and makeup!

    • MilaXX

The double slit is NO ONES friend. If this was a clingy sheath, she’d be rockin’ it.

      • DeborahJozayt

The top half of her is bangin’, though!

    • samo_samo

You guys are so right about that dress. She still looks pretty. The color is good on her and I like all of her accessories.

    • nicole seligman

it’s like she tried to put on carrie’s naked dress but it wasn’t ready for her jelly

      • DeborahJozayt

That’s Carrie on the wrong side of the tracks.

    • Judy_J

I don’t know what that dress costs, but it looks like $9.99.

      • DeborahJozayt

Get 2 more chamois dresses and you’ll get a free toaster oven! Just $75 S&H!

    • http://twitter.com/tangodiva Tanya Wade

Too bad, the color is doing amazing things for her.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000393765005 Garcia Loca

At first, I was all, “Why isn’t this a WERQ?” And then I saw the Slits of Doom.

    • jw_ny

Too bad that that 1 extra slit ruined an otherwise really nice look.

    • Funkykatt

I know a couple of people to send it to…..

    • http://twitter.com/#!/Space_Kitty Space Kitty

If that dress had even a little more breathing room and one less slit everything would be working here.  Her hair and makeup are stunning.

    • http://www.facebook.com/renate.yerkes Renate Yerkes

but tlo, dont you realize that its the famous amazon jungle loincloth dress? also good for bicycle riding

    • chitowndg

I would go up a size and then close the slits some from the top – two smaller slits would be fine if it fitted.  Hair = fun and wonderful.

    • Imasewsure

Such a great color on her; everything is fabulous except for the bottom half of the dress which is AWFUL!! Definitely looks like a high school DIY project from the waste down. But she looks really beautiful

    • http://asskickingadviser.com/ Ass Kicking Adviser

Agreed on all fronts. Horrific dress. But save the shoes!

    • YourBaloneyDontGotNoSecondName

I know nothing about dressing women.  One look in the mirror shows that I know nothing about dressing men either (well not today because I have been ill and therefore wearing underwear only for two days but I mean when I do leave the house).  However, I am starting to suspect that slits should only be in odd numbers, not even.  Like one slit would be sexy, eleven slits would be cracked out and fabulous, and 111 slits would be fringe.  Is there a secret mathemagic to fashion?

    • http://twitter.com/nkk Nikki

Those shoes are a fucking joke- right? I’m just not in on the joke I’m guessing…

    • flower753

       Loincloth.

    • jilly_d

      Scrolldowwwwwwn fuuuuuuuuug!

    • SpillinTea

I love Basement Baby, but this is a Heidi dress (on which it would still look bad). On a good note, love the new cd!

    • kaycem

i don’t even care — happy to be in the minority here:  i like it, loincloth and all.  :D

    • Louise Bryan

      Built in toilet flap!

    • Scarlet39

The dress is heinous, but I think this is the best she’s ever looked from the neck up

    • Sara__B

Solange is near the top of my Irrational Celebrity LIKE List, but even she can’t pull off a chamois loin cloth.

    • shanteIstay

It’s an odd dress but that peachy nude color looks excellencent against her skin :)

    • http://twitter.com/PhDKnitter marlie

I looooove her hair. And the shoes are hot too, but too matchy. But I agree – the dress is NOT for her. Or anyone.

    • baxtercruz

But what about that clutch?? Does anyone know who makes it?

    • http://twitter.com/DarrenNesbitt Darren Nesbitt

Doesn’t look so bad to me. Possibly she was going to do a Tina Turner tribute. Proud Mary perhaps?

    • AnneElliot

Bless her for NOT wearing hideous Frankenstomper platforms like the model.  Two slits are just a bad idea, but I forgive her because of her shoe choice.  And great smile!

    • ankali

Well… the cuff and the manicure are nice.

    • prettybigkitty

      Bad Solange!  Bad!

      • mmc2315

What has happened to her?!  Mis-step after mis-step, recently.  Is it time to call for an intervention?  I’m wringing my hands at this point.

    • http://twitter.com/anibellee Lynsey M.

My feet hurt just looking at those shoes.

    • http://twitter.com/snookumslynn snookums lynn

hair & face on point, but what’s up with her mani? I do the gel nails and that looks like about 2 weeks out to me…she betta get to the salon, in my fantasy when I can, I will see the manicurist at least 2 x’s a week!!! no ugly cuticle without color for me anymore

    • RzYoung

she’d send it to Lea Michelle and you know Lea would wear the crap out of it and not in a good way! Imagine how she’d post with double slits?!

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Jessica-TallGirl-Freeman/1043623567 Jessica TallGirl Freeman

It reminds me of Indian dress. So strange. One slit and this would have been dead on. Damn it, Solange.

    • Cathy S

      Dress, no. Hair, yes.

    • kategs

The color is gorgeous on her but the dress itself?  Blech.

    • http://promiscuouslola.com/ Cate

LOVE the hair and face, but the double slits are too much. She looks very old school GLAM though.

    • http://profiles.google.com/scaponigro Sarah Caponigro

OH NO but I will take all of your accessories.

    • Jenna621

I actually said “Ew” out loud upon viewing.

    • spooki C

Dress looks way better on her than the model. Great accessories and shoes.

    • guest2visits

From the waist up; gorgeous. Love the accessories too. Horrible slits. The dress isn’t meant for anyone.

      • Iroqhard

That is exactly what I thought. It is, as the internet says, scroll-down fug.

    • ccm800

Those shoes are RIDICULOUS! Good lord her poor feet.

    • ShayShay

I think Solange manages to look as good as anyone possible could in a dress like this.  Those sandals have no support; how can she possibly walk in them?

    • AnaRoW

I think the hair is more Donna Summer than Diana Ross. Diana didn’t do bangs. Dress would be nice without the slits.

    • quiltrx

Come on girl.  I’m pretty sure I’d like that clutch (I am betting it’s Bulgari), but your hands are completely obscuring it.  You’ve got to SHOW that expensive shit, girl!

    • http://twitter.com/jalae Janey

The only 2 slit dresses that I’ll ever not hate are qipaos and cheongsams

    • Carly Warnock

      vagina curtains.

    • Sarah Schuster

Whatevs Solange is awesome. She can do no wrong in my eyes.
