Sarah Jessica Parker in Erdem

Posted on December 12, 2012

This is really pretty, we think:

Sarah Jessica Parker attends the Nobel Peace Prize Concert 2012 in Oslo, Norway in Erdem.

Erdem Spring 2013 Collection/Model: Athena Wilson

That pale blue is a great color for her; the shape suits her perfectly, and it works really well for the stage because it’s all starkly simple but visually appealling. Not a lot of frou-frou or attempts at being cute. We don’t much mind the strip of belly, but we’d be a lot more critical of it if she was wearing this on the red carpet; not because we’re prudes about strips of skin, but because the sheer netting would’ve looked terrible in up-close, harshly lit photographs.

Love the addition of the cameo at the neck.

Lovely. So much better than we’ve seen from her recently. Even her makeup doesn’t look so harsh with stage lighting – love the pop of blue on her lower lash!

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_YVVJ5LZ7Y4OZDTFEWSAFTTWAJU Purple Fish

She still annoys the crap out of me.

  • JasmineAM

I wish she’d do a different hairstyle once in a while.

    • Lilithcat

      Truly.  She’s not fifteen anymore.

    • mom2ab

Hey long and scraggly is still better than the jiffy pop bun

  • BrooklynBomber

Recently she seems to be skewing more grown up. Brava. This is lovely.

  • BrooklynBomber

Also, did she win the Nobel Peace Prize? Is she singing? What’s she doing?

    • Nicholas

She plays Galadriel in an off-Broadway production of Lord of the Rings.

      • Lilithcat

What does that have to do with her being at the Nobel Peace Prize concert?

      • http://profiles.google.com/ameliaheartsu Amelia Logan

        what?

    • http://www.tomandlorenzo.com/ Tom and Lorenzo

She co-hosted the concert, along with Gerard Butler.

      • Pants_are_a_must

Wow. Really? I guess no one wanted to host the ceremony that gives the Nobel Peace prize to the goddamn EU, did they.

        • http://www.tomandlorenzo.com/ Tom and Lorenzo

It’s a concert, not the award ceremony.

          • Pants_are_a_must

I stand corrected. Not that it makes it any better.

      • BrooklynBomber

        Ah, thanks.

  • crash1212

Truly, the addition of the cameo makes a beautiful look even better. That’s a pro touch, right there. She looks beautiful.

    • TheDivineMissAnn

Yes!  The cameo takes this dress over the top to ab fab.

  • Patricia Gillett

The cameo is an unexpected move that only fashion divas should attempt! She pulled it off. Sad that we can’t see her shoe choice. It’s SJP for goodness sake!

    • Paigealicious

Looks like a nude heel to me (you can see it thru the slit)

  • SewingSiren

Beautiful. I love the cameo. But I am a bit disappointed about the belly strip. I thought it was a buff colored velvet ribbon waistband/belt.

    • BrooklynBomber

You could squint and pretend that’s what it is.

      • ccinnc

Is there not pale blue illusion netting there? Maybe my mind wants it to be there.

        • http://www.djplaw.com/ Tadiana

I’m pretty certain it’s there (look at the last picture) … not that that’s necessarily a good thing.  I too thought that strip was a belt when I looked at the first couple of pictures.  I’m going to follow BrooklynBomber’s advice and keep pretending that’s what it really is. Lalalala.

        • BrooklynBomber

There’s some kind of illusion netting there. But still. Though it’s not bothering me as much as it is other people, I do agree a sash might have been better.

      • bitchybitchybitchy

And that’s what I’m going to do! Aside from that strip, it’s a lovely gown, and she looks great!

  • kimmeister

I don’t hate the cameo or anything, but I feel like it’s almost a throwaway since it blends in so much with the color of the dress.

  • DTLAFamilies

Isn’t the strip of skin a bit vulgar at the Nobel Prizes Concert? I know the rest of the dress is very conservative but I still think it’s not quite appropriate.

    • 3boysful

I might’ve concurred, BUT, because it’s a narrow strip, technically covered by the nude mesh, and she isn’t baring arms, decolletage, thighs or buttcrack, I think it’s fine.

      • StellaZafella

I agree, if it had been a belt or sash at the waist, this gown could have gone to ‘matronly’. But the suggestion of a separation makes it more youthful without trying to be too hip.

        • 3boysful

           Perfect analysis.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1303837450 Lauren Dorsee Dillon

Her eye makeup is a little softer, too. No raccoon eyes! I love the cameo, love the dress, not crazy about the hair but at least she’s not trying to rock a Priscilla Presley, the Early Days, bouffant.

  • alyce1213

I really like Erdem’s lovely feminine prints.  She’s nearly perfection here — just the hair.

  • filmcricket

I’m a lot more critical of the belly strip in this context, because it’s the frickin’ Nobel Peace Prize, not some stupid movie premiere. No idea what she’s doing there, but crop tops and thigh-high slits – however well disguised – surely should be kept away from this kind of event. Not to mention the fact that it looks like other portions of the lace are sheer as well.

    • IMNAngryLiberal

I agree — I think this is pretty tacky for the occasion.

    • TRSTL

I would agree for the actual awards ceremony itself but this is a concert, ie: entertainment. It’s not anywhere near as “vulgar” as what we see form most performers and hosts at concerts these days.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000088447181 Sam Smith

I don’t know, I’m not in favor of all these belly dresses on the red carpet.

  • Lisa Salmon

Love the dress but actually I don’t like the cameo at all.

  • http://twitter.com/foodycatAlicia foodycatAlicia

Interesting to read the cameo love – I don’t think it brings anything to the table.

  • mjude

i really love sjp but sometimes her hair really gets on my nerves.

  • decormaven

Pretty frock, but not a fan of the waist detail. The netting makes it look like there’s an appendix scar in the last shot.

  • MilaXX

much better than her last attempt

  • Jessica O’Connell

I really hate the belly strip and think it’d look much better without it but still, can’t argue – she looks great.

  • miagain

    What is she doing there?

    • TRSTL

She was co-hostong the concert.  This is NOT the actual Nobel Prize ceremony.

  • TieDye64

This is a really lovely look. Not crazy about the belly strip, but it’s so narrow it’s mostly a non-issue.

  • Lilithcat

Hate the sheer bit at the waist.

    Otherwise, it’s fine.

The cameo is lovely, except that the cheesy turquoise beads around it make it look like a craft project.

  • lehen

i think i would hate this on any one else.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Jessica-TallGirl-Freeman/1043623567 Jessica TallGirl Freeman

I think the sheer panel kinda kills the look. Otherwise I would really love this.

  • E. D.

Looks good – wish she would cut her hair though.

  • Zippypie

The dress is nice but a little sofa upholstery.  It’s appropriate for the venue, but not my favorite.  Maybe it’s the color.  The problem I have with SJP is that damn hairstyle and the eye makeup.  It’s been the same for 20 years.  GF needs to change it up.  It just doesn’t work anymore.

  • Pants_are_a_must

The illusion netting doesn’t work here either. Would it have killed Erdem to NOT make this otherwise lovely dress into a two piece, badly done 90s nostalgia affair?

  • frannyprof

Not loving this! I think because I didn’t notice the sheer strip at the belly, but now that you mentioned it, it’s all I see.

  • B_C_J

I am not loving this at all. The waist level nude strip is really not appropriate for a Nobel related event. The dress itself is boring other than for the fact that the fabric is relatively pretty. The color is very nice. I like the cameo but it would have been more striking on a darker hued gown.

  • http://twitter.com/stellaphone Stella Zawistowski

Gorgeous. The strip of midriff is unnecessary, but she still looks great.

  • http://twitter.com/Nancer Nancer

This is why she’s Carrie F-ing Bradshaw! :] Love it.

  • bluefish

Not crazy about the dress but agree that the cameo is a good move and she looks very pretty.  I’ve always thought her oddly beautiful and have long admired what seems to be her ease in her own skin.  She’s got that timeless aristocratic big nosed look I love.  And her hands, now aging, are still just beautiful.

  • Cathy S

It’s very pretty. I don’t think the cameo works though. Otherwise pretty perfect I think.

  • RocknRollmom

Eliminate the silly sheer panel and at least I would like the dress.  I wish someone would take SJP aside and talk about her hair and make up choices and find a softer look all around.  Tough to do make up with a pastel dress but that lipstick is awful on her.

  • golden_valley

That looks like bridesmaid’s fabric to me.

  • kschwarting

I’m not in love with the fabric or the belly strip illusion netting, but I do like that it gives her beautiful curves.

  • teensmom99

I agree with all you say, but it kind of looks to me like she’s about to be on the Ed Sullivan show-or maybe I’m just trying to say “girl, that’s Edie Gourmay’s dress.”

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Linda-Harris/1358701372 Linda Harris

She really needs a different hair style

  • luciaphile

The dress is pretty and I like it on her, but this woman needs a new hairstyle and a new makeup person. While the eyeliner is slightly better, it’s still pretty heinous. The cameo is a nice touch.

  • AnnaleighBelle

I want her to relax the whole over-lined eye look.  Her eyes need room to breathe!

  • BazoDee

I love this unreservedely.  I feel like the strip of skin is well done and not in any way to much. They could well have someone on stage in a sari that would show more skin. Clearly this is not traditional Indian attire but it seems very eastern insipred to me and so it all works. Brava!

  • hughman

The dress is very Sade. And I, too, love the Miu-Miu brooch.

  • Judy_J

The gown is pretty, and I love the pale blue on her.  I just wish she’d cut her hair; about 6 inches would make a world of difference.  Her eye makeup appears to have been applied with a lighter touch, and it is a definite improvement.

  • http://asskickingadviser.com/ Ass Kicking Adviser

Very pretty. Very chic. I love it and the cameo was perfect.

  • http://twitter.com/FilmJen Jenny stark

    Love her! Love the dress!

  • CeeQ

This is a slam dunk, well done SJP! Also – love the hair!

  • thecitysleeps

I love her.  And this dress is really pretty.  I love the brooch too. Is it a brooch?

  • librarygrrl64

Perfect for her, head to toe. :-)

  • http://vhanna26.typepad.com Vera

The dress is a win.  Eye makeup, not so much.

  • Imasewsure

I’m fine with the belly strip here since the rest of the outfit is so pretty (and it’s a reasonable small separation). Also it lightens up a potentially heavy looking outfit… Me likes

  • Ceur

She looks gorgeous. Actually, she looked gorgeous, grateful and happy throughout the whole Oslo stay, and I died a little inside when I read that she skipped the boring banquet to take a look around the city and eat the most famous kebab in Oslo. :)

  • Snailstsichr

Sublime. I think this is my favorite look for her all year.

  • Scarlet39

Not that big a fan of the midriff, but overall, this a beautiful look.  The cameo is a genius touch.

  • Kyle Crawford

Beautiful – I really love this length and wish more lady stars would stop with the puddling…

  • tallgirl1204

My first thought was “nerd girl prom dress, circa 1976″!  Because, well, I wore one myself.

And then I realized it was the Nobel Prize thingie.  Perfect choice.  How many circa 1976 nerds do you suppose were in attendance?

  • snarkykitten

good lord she is like 11 feet tall

  • Valdri8

So pretty, but Oy: the hair

  • bertkeeter

Doesn’t she EVER stay home for a night with the hubby and her babes?

  • http://twitter.com/Mariebeth21 Marie Elizabeth

I thought that was a belt on the Erdem dress until I realize it was sheer. I like the dress, I like it more when I thought there was a belt.

  • MissKimP

    The cameo is sartorial genius!

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=790818401 Laurie Landry

Can not get past the hair anymore!

  • Monabel

I’m doubtful about the cameo. Looks plastic-y.

  • Trisha26

I don’t care for the matchiness of the eyeshadow and I hate that transparent strip. I’m not advocating for the runway look but it has a modern feel missing from SJP’s look.

  • Lisa M. (ReVoir) Kramp

I think this is lovely, and the cameo is perfect for this venue. Her hair has GOT to change, it simply doesn’t work anymore.

  • JaneDC

I’m relieved to see she lost the dark, harsh eyeliner she usually aerate. She looks a lot fresher.

  • amaranth16

Lovely. Though the cocker spaniel hair is making my eye twitch.  And while I get the belly strip, my conscience objects to it.

  • Judih1

Time for a new hairstyle. That length is not doing her any favors

  • barbarienne

This is one of the rare occasions where I would say get rid of the illusion netting and let the skin show. SJP has the style and physique for it. This dress is great on her.

  • quiltrx

The cameo was a great choice.  I’m not a fan of the belly strip…but otherwise not bad.

  • KatieKissinger

Gorgeous- she should live in that blue.  I love that she didn’t do her typical dark smokey eye, she looks a lot younger here.  I agree with the comments about changing up her hairstyle, but I prefer this look to the severe updos she wears from time to time.  If it ain’t broke I suppose.

  • http://twitter.com/dollsaga Dollsaga

hmmm…. Sara as Miss Thailand in national costume competition.

  • RzYoung

She does look lovely in that colour, not many people can wear that colour

  • neofashionista

Beautiful beautiful dress BUT the brooch is just TOO much for me … I cant… I just cant

  • notdorothygale

A wonderful look for her, but I am SO sick of the Goldilocks hair! I was watching her “short hair season” of Sex in the City, and that style was so flattering on her.

  • formerlyAnon

I like everything except the (turquoise?) beading around the cameo, which adds a whiff of “junk jewelry.”

For the event (concert), the net strip is fine, IMO. Bare skin would have been less elegant, but my real objection to it would be that she’s crossed the line from “girl” to “woman,” and bare skin would have been discordant, (given that her image is not that of a sex bomb).

  • Candigirl1968

I’m not understanding why the trend is showing a bit of belly.  It’s just kind of tacky, and unless you are 15 with washboard abs, it’s just not flattering.

  • warnerave

dress looks really good on the model but not on her..

  • Rebecca Jay

    It’s very Norway-ish, I think.

  • EEKstl

It really looks great and the ice blue is very appropriate, but I wish the netting it fit her more snugly as it does on the model. And I, too, LOVE the cameo.

  • http://twitter.com/jaythenerdkid Aaminah Khan

Best look she’s worn in ages.

  • guest2visits

It’s pretty; Hair and make-up look good.  Still not crazy about the middle with the visable netting.

  • LilyPad

I, however, very much DO mind the exposed belly strip. Why? Why would you do that?
    Otherwise she looks lovely.
