Rooney Mara in Calvin Klein

Posted on December 18, 2012

Hey… remember the Audreybot? She’s still the Audreybot!

Rooney Mara attends the 2012 Dubai International Film Festival, Dubai Cares and Oxfam “One Night to Change Lives” Charity Gala in a Calvin Klein paired with Givenchy heels.

We kinda figured this schtick would end when the poledancing for Girl with the Dragon Tattoo was behind her, but she’s still flogging this robot girl look for all it’s worth. Sometimes she kills it and sometimes she just looks awkward. Guess which one she landed on this time?

That’s right, kittens! Awkward!

We might be able to get behind that bodice and its shelf-like bust, but the heaviness of the skirt just ruins the whole effect. A sleek, fitted pencil skirt would’ve taken this exactly where it needs to go to look chic. As it is, it just looks a little cray.

But hey, Audreybot! Great to see you! keep wearing the crazy shit so we all have something to talk about!

So . . . can a tall person standing behind her look down and see her nipples?

      • Introspective

hoping not for her sake, but I guess she knew what she was getting into by putting that fuckery on.

      • Kim Baker Vidas Davey-Irvin

i like to think that she can walk up to a buffet and bend over it and scoop up enough for a family of four.   or maybe she carries her lipstick and extra tampon in there and doesn’t have to bother with a purse!  (what am i saying?  her periods probably stopped a couple of years ago.)

    • Breatheinthegood

I think she doesn’t work the Audreybot looks as well when she’s tan like this. She’s a lot less striking now then she was when she was super pale with those short bangs.

      • kimmeister

Agreed – now her hair just looks . . . Mennonite.

      • kschwarting

That was my first thought, too.  I thought part of her Audreybot-ness was based on that very pale, very pretty skin.  The tan ruins it.

    • StellaZafella

“I don’t care what they call me, so long as they spell my name right!”

I’d have even gone with cigarette pants with this…that would be really robo’chick and a touch butch.

      • Kathy_Marlow

         LOVE that idea!!

      • MilaXX

Gwen Stefani would rock that top with cigarette pants

    • Introspective

this dress is wonky. what is it with the starlets and this hem that flatters no one in particular? I wont even go into the protruding case around her bust. horrible.

she also has on no makeup and looks surprised to be there in pic 3. Im surprised that you left the house like this. color us both shocked then.

      • MilaXX

she has on lots: fake tanner, false lashes, and took nude and dead looking lipstick are the easiest things to spot. looks like a bit of subtle contouring as well.

        • Sobaika

Yup – there’s a lot going on here, it’s just not in-your-face like red lipstick or such. There’s a way to do this look without appearing malnourished though, her makeup artist must be mad at her.

    • another_laura

I dunno, I kinda like it.  A Star Trek-ian thing going on.

However, dear AudreyBot, lay off the tanner.

    • SewingSiren

I am usually not a fan of cut out and sheer insets, but this girl can work them like nobody else. Not a personal best. She still looks good. I like the low key make up.

    • Kiltdntiltd

      Hilarious dress. Full stop.

      • Kim Baker Vidas Davey-Irvin

if she had ANOTHER black stripe across her eyes, it’d be perfect!

    • marlie

She looks like a different person without the severe haircut (though this particular style is still severe) and a little bit of color.

      • Kristin McNamara

She reminds me INSANELY of Nelly Furtado in these pictures.

    • MilaXX

it looks like Frieda Kahlo and Tilda Swinton mated.

      • DeborahJozayt

        During Picasso’s Blue period.

    • kristel

You know, just looking at her face, I had no idea who this was, but as soon as I saw the dress I knew straight away. (I don’t say that I don’t recognize her to be an ass, I just haven’t seen any of her movies, so she’s not made much of a person outside of the get-ups she wore after The Girl with a Dragon Tattoo came out.)

Edited to add that with her hair like that, rather than with the super-short bangs, she looks like she should be wearing something kind of demure and princess-y. Or maybe ballerina-y.

    • hughman

I don’t blame Mara so much for this as I blame the loopy queen who designed this costume. What is supposed to be attractive or sexy about this whole get-up?

    • Diane_G

I personally like to see a little color on her. It’s refreshing, helps make her eyes pop and it doesn’t look freakishly Kors-ian orange.
The outfit, however, I can’t back. No on all fronts.

    • lexilexi

Calvin Klein?  Wow.  That top look like a superimposed nipple hider.

    • Pants_are_a_must

Audreybot Mark II now has a bronzer option!

    • Sinéad Doyle

Normally I’d get behind a look like this but the edges on the boob shelf and the join of the skirt and top sections just look awkward to me. This is like a designer sketch that looks great on paper but no one knows how to put all the elements together in real life.

    • Janice

It looks like there is a “censored” bar over her boobs.

    • In_Stitches

Hairs a little Whistler’s Mother, but  I can’t help but love her.  She has this blank stare that helps sell these odd, potentially slutty, looks.

    • sara

OMG that top is ridiculous…and I mean ridiculously atrocious.

    • decormaven

Something in the eyes reminds me of Matthew McConaughey. That’s not a dress, it’s black Color Forms attached to some fabric.

      • Mismarker

RE: McConaughey.  I see it, too.  And it is blowing my mind.

      • VeryClaire

She looks like a cartoon character with toothpicks holding her eyes open!

    • l_c_ann

The disconnect between that boobshelf and the nation of Dubai could not be wider.

      • Isadora Paiva

        The “nation” of Dubai?

    • Imasewsure

Love the hair and makeup, love the shoes on her… the rest is a laughable moment to say the very very least

    • Trisha26

She’s in full Stepford to me…

    • Judy_J

She was in Austin recently working on the new Terrance Mallick film, and my husband and I were extras in a scene she filmed.  She’s a petite little thing.  I didn’t even recognize her at first, I was so used to seeing her in Audreybot mode.  She was very sweet, and completely natural.  That said, this dress is just not doing it for me.  That boob shelf looks ridiculous.

    • Tamara Hogan

That dress is cray-cray…but LOVE the shoes.

    •!/Space_Kitty Space Kitty

I certainly commend her posture, if not her fake tan.

    • Shawn EH

I like it. She can reprogram my faulty circuitry any time!

    • Lily-Rygh

At first glance I thought she had a TV censor box over her boobs.

    • LLuL

Reminds me of those rubber bibs that are designed to keep crumbs off the floor. Gotta love a dress with a practical function.

    • crash1212

Upside…at least nothing will land on her lap should she spill.

    • ThaliaMenninger

A cantilevered bosom doesn’t look good on anyone, robot or not.

    • procrastinatrice

That’s one of the ugliest looks I have seen on the RC. Some bad getups are at least funny. This isn’t even funny.

    • ankali

Ooooh, I’m so glad she’s back! She’s one of my RC favorites; never a dull outfit with the Audreybot. I actually dig this on her, but I can’t imagine it working on anyone else who wasn’t a model on a runway.

    • Melissa Mellon

I’m really  digging the prow of that dress!

    • Ass Kicking Adviser

The hair and make-up aren’t helping with the cra-cra. Bad.

    • IMNAngryLiberal

Serious ugly going on here — dress, hair, makeup (or lack thereof), all ugly, ugly, ugly.

    • Stella Zawistowski

      This is Calvin Klein? Really?

    • jmorino08

Her face looks completely different without those bangs! Amazing! Also, the bodice of that dress is completely cracked out and wrong!

    • Pennymac

You know those sun visors that don’t have a strap to go around the back of your head? Plastic, give you a pain in the temple, sold at the dollar store in all colors? She’s wearing a big black one upside down around her boobs….

      • littlemissstrange

Boob visor. Totally. But you gotta admit, it almost works on her.

    • LauraWL

She can throw some serious shade with her brunette hair. Snaps up girl. However, that skirt is… unfortunate.

    • Judy_S

Too much robot, not enough Audrey here.

    • littlemissstrange

Eh. I wouldn’t say it’s her fault, she’s working it as much as she can but it’s just an awkward dress. Doesn’t look very well thought out. But she tried to make it work with the ubergerman futuristic styling and I give her props for that.

    • Kim Baker Vidas Davey-Irvin

ooo, a breast-catcher!  convenient.  like the shoes, though.

    • VeryClaire

      No on the crumb-cathcer. No.

    • Renate Yerkes

not fair to involve audrey in this!

    • kcarb1025

I guess she and Jessica Chastain got together and decided to make us sit through Awards Season 2012: Deja Ew.

    • quiltrx

The skirt does take it into “what?” land.  Interesting bodice and shoes.  She looks really heavily made-up though, in an oddly neutral palette that isn’t doing her any favors.

    • bertkeeter

What’s his name that designs CK needs to stop trying to be soooo F N intelectual and just design flatering looks for a change!

    • alyce1213

Ick, it’s like they put black censor bands across her to hide naked naughty parts. What a ridiculous outfit.

    • MK03

OK, how long before she plays Kate Middleton? Am I the only one to see the astonishing resemblance??

    • Aurumgirl

How does a person decide that that shelf thing is a flattering detail on anyone?   Help me understand.

    • kingderella

there is such a thing as “too ‘bot”

i was gonna rag on the top, but youre right: it may have worked with a skirt thats less… terrible.

    • foodycatAlicia

I like the shoes and I like her face. I don’t think anything about the dress works, really.

    • CheriCPat

hehehehe.  All I can see is the Glamour “Don’t” bar.

    • guest2visits

The only positive thing I can find about this dress is how nice the black mesh looks against her upper body.
The rest looks like questionable art in the gallery.  And she looks too much like a store mannequin in it.

    • librarygrrl64

      Upside-down-visor tits.

    • lrober03

      She looks so tan

    • UglyTalents

She must be so happy her bangs have finally grown out!

    • miagain

That top looks like the crumbcatcher on my kid’s plastic bib… (back in the day)

    • chelwi

I didn’t even look at the dress; she has such a striking face.

    • Karen

girl needs some colour on her face, she does not look well! This robot act gets on my nerves, because when you see candid pics of her on set she looks really cute and happy. But there are still two more of those movies to be made so perhaps she’s staying in character until then?!

    • laurenoodle

      The tan is an abomination
