Lea Michele in Santa Monica

Posted on December 05, 2012

Let’s all agree to be very supportive of Lea right now.

‘Glee’ star Lea Michele stops by her office in Santa Monica, California.

Why? Well, it’s certainly not because of those boots. No, we should be supportive because she clearly doesn’t want to be photographed at the moment and yet her shy, grinning embarrassment is so much more endearing than the duck lips and half-lidded eyes she affects while she parts her slit-skirted gown on the red carpet. Honey, you’re goofy and cute in that Marlo/early Barbra/Mary Tyler-Moore mode! We’ve been saying that for years.  The diva stuff is fun and all, but people love you when you’re the little gal with the big voice, looking all cute and unaffected.

But really, hon. You need to ditch the boots.

  • I’ll be kind and supportive b/c she may have a small rip or hole in her sweater (seen in the first pic).

    • alyce1213

Ooh, I looked. The sweater is a veritable schmatta — pulls everywhere. Yeah, I’ll bet she didn’t want to be photographed today.

    • Janet B

I think that’s a very expensive sweater and the lacy-ness is not going to hold up well.

    • YoungSally

Ooh I see two — one on her right forearm and one on her abdomen.

    • judybrowni

I’ve had a sweater like that, and it lasted through about two wearings before the pulls became egregious.

  • Imasewsure

I thought the UGG trend had died off in LA at least and I did not attend its funeral…. don’t love the faux-ripped sweater style either but she looks cute and normal which as TLo state, is a huge improvement!!

    • 3boysful

Have to confess I own these boots in black, and Lordy, they are comfortable.  It’s like permission to wear bedroom slippers in public.

      • mjude

the uggs are a must in the midwest winter but in warm weather do. not. get.

        • NC_Meg

But what happens to them in the snow? Do they have a waterproof lining or something inside? I used to live in Anchorage and would see girls wearing these all the time in the winter and they were always soaked and gross looking from the snow.

          • 3boysful

I’ve sprayed the outside with a “waterproof” spray, but I don’t wear them in heavy snow (which we rarely get in NC!) or muck.

          • TieDye64

No, there’s nothing about them that’s waterproof/resistant. I live in Alaska and my daughter bought a pair and they’re best used as expensive slippers, cuz once the snow flies they’re a soggy mess.

          • mjude

its not like i am out hiking in the boots but they are great in the winter.

          • NC_Meg

Ok, now I am even more confused. I can totally see wearing them as slippers, just not out and about in snow.

          • kschwarting

            Hello, fellow Alaskan!

          • Jecca2244

I had a pair one that were more winter boot-like, meant to be used outside in the snow. wore them snowshoeing, put them away, and pulled them out a week later covered in mold. $300 down the drain…

          • NC_Meg

          • Corazon Nunez

I sprayed mine with the waterproof stuff, but I almost never wear them in snow. They’re awesome in just plain, dry, FREEZING weather though.

        • Alisa Rivera

Los Angeles doesn’t always have warm weather. Or at least not as warm as people from colder parts of the country seem to think. When I first moved out here from NYC, I went to a party in the Valley in a denim jacket, skirt, bare legs and sandals and almost froze to death when it went down to 45 degrees. It can also be chilly by the water. So in a way Uggs make a lot of sense here: chilly but not a lot of rain so no worries about suede being ruined. Not that I own a pair because I think they’re ugly as sin, but I get why they’re popular here.

          • I still have a pair of Uggs I got in the 90’s. I first found them in the surf shops here in LA; surfers would pop them on when coming out of the water to keep their feet warm as they dashed across PCH to their cars/homes.

          • Imasewsure

I guess it’s a matter of “comfort taste.” I grew up in LA and I still wear flip flops all year round…. if it’s super cold I will add socks which actually go up to my ankles with my tennis shoes… otherwise my shoe boots stay in my ski bag… it would drive me nuts to have my tootsies so smothered!!

          • j_anson

Yeah. It’s a desert. It gets quite cold at night, especially in the winter. Not snow cold, but definitely warm-boot-appropriate cold.

      • halleygee

I was never on the UGG train, but tried on a pair with my daughter recently for the first time – and oh my gosh, I immediately understood! Just what you said.

      •  The boots are fine- but the rest of the outfit should go with them.  If she was wearing jeans and a (regular) sweater they’d be great.

      • warontara

Funny enough, the last time I was in Australia with some friends, one of the people we were staying with wondered why they went out walking around in public wearing their house slippers, because that’s the only way he’d ever seen them worn.

    • sockandaphone

       it never dies here. NEVER

  • teensmom99

Sometimes you have to love the paparazzi. Thanks to them & this picture, I can now remember what was appealing about her in the 1st place.

    • EveEve

Right?  And you KNOW this wasn’t one of those fake “just going to the grocery store to buy a quart of milk” promo events because there’s no $10,000 purse being aggresively positioned between her body and the camera.

  • Spicytomato1

She needs to ditch the boots…and also remember to wear pants.

  • alyce1213

I loathe uggs. She looks cute, though, and the schlumpy sweater with pulls is kind of endearing. But uggs are unforgivable – cute little regular boots or flats.

  • UGGs are really, really ugly to look at but for years I’ve bought them for my daughter because that what she wanted. Then I put a pair of her’s on to walk the dog. Fuck. I still think they’re heinous but damn if they aren’t fluffy little pillows for the feet. I don’t own any of my own but I do sneak out in my kid’s from time to time.

Agree wholeheartedly with T-Lo, Lea looks so much more genuine and cute here than she does on the red carpet. I’m lending my support!

    • The thing is, there are cuter fur lined boots in the same price range with more durable soles/materials.

  • jw_ny

oh…she wanted to be photographed.  She ALWAYS wants to be photographed….the little media whore that she is…

  • Janet B

    Now that’s cute.

  • HomeOfficeGirl

I’m just more curious about “stops by her office”… HER office?  Or her somebody’s office?  I would never guess she had an office.

    • Vickiefantastico

I had the same thought! What on earth does she need an office for?

      • judybrowni

        She’s a stahr, honey.

They have, need?, their own staff — more than likely she’s also got a production deal or two, and needs a staff to help her produce projects of her own.

  • MilaXX

I love her for wearing those fugly boots. Best Lea post in a very long time.

    • In_Stitches

Hahaha, that was my reaction.  They’re the opposite of ‘trying’ and trying too hard seems to be her problem.

  • marilyn

Is this one of the 3 days a year that the LA area is a little chilly?  Her feet are ready for a blizzard, and the rest of her is dressed for a high in the 60’s. People are very excited when it actually gets a little cool there, and can’t drag out their blizzard-wear fast enough. As long as it isn’t raining, people will overheat themselves to wear their fur coats. LA is just different.

  • Anne At Large

This may be the most natural I have ever seen her look. I mean, I can’t even tell who made her bag.

  • She looks so stinking cute here. Why can’t she be more endearing like this all the time? SO STINKING CUTE I can’t even hate on the (UGG)ly boots because I have the two button tall version and I love them. 🙂

  • Terri Smith

I’m just excited that I can’t see her boobs!

    • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

      Or her good china!

  • christinewithanx

Oh my gosh, she’s normalish! She’s so talented, so it’s confusing as to why she needs to traipse around like she does. I saw Mary Tyler Moore on Monday waiting for an elevator at my office building and she was BEAUTIFUL. I lit up when I saw her and she totally beamed back at me. Old school funny ladies, for the win. Are people still saying FTW?

    • VictoriaDiNardo

I am extremely envious of an actual MTM sighting.  A friend gifted me a signed copy of the “Chuckles Bites the Dust” scripts, one of the all time bests! Love love love her. And she smiled at you – swoon!

      • christinewithanx

I almost peed my pants, to be honest. She’s one of the first funny women I can remember and still one of my faves.

    • MissAmynae

      MTM FTW!!

  • KSpence

This is the best she’s looked in a loooooooooong time.

  • Cute….until you hit the boots

  • Amy Forestell

That is the same exact outfit worn by every college student on the campus where I teach. Black leggings (or sometimes super skinny jeans) tucked into some kind of boot (ugly or cute, ankle or knee).

  • crash1212

Adorable. Wish I had those boots on today – my feets are freezing.

  • Jillaine13

Lol, never thought I’d see this in a sentence in print about Lea Michele : “because she clearly doesn’t want to be photographed at the moment and yet her shy….”.  To these eyes she looks tickled pink!

  • RebeccaKW

That sweater is not long enough to wear with only leggings.  The shoes are hideous.  But it is nice to see her not hooching it up.

  • Girl_With_a_Pearl

I like her outfit because for once we’re not all shouting “of course”.

    • Spicytomato1

Actually my first thought was “She’s wearing tights as pants? Of course!”

  • As much as I hate leggings as pants, this is the most I’ve ever liked her. This whole outfit is a no for me, but her attitude and shy smile is a winner.

  • Pants_are_a_must

SHE OWNS CLOTHES! Praise be to the gods of fashion!

  • decormaven

I’m supportive! I’m also taking up a collection to get her some different boots.

  • hmariec19

She is 1000x more likable in these pictures than when she’s on the RC.

  • SophiaPehawkins

    *small voice*’i love the boots.

  • DaveinAlamitosBeach

This reminds me of the Lea Michele I saw singing at Mark’s in West Hollywood before GLEE began.  She was wearing a sundress, flip flops and no makeup.  She seemed sweet.  The whole world wants THAT Lea Michele back.  I really hope she was at her “office” firing her manager or whoever is pushing her into this sexpot role she wears so badly.

  • snarkykitten

she has this “oh gosh, you wanna photograph lil ole me??” thing going. annoying.

  • MoHub

    There’s a reason they’re called Uggs.

  • allaboutthewalterbenjamins

I want to see her with Original Danish duckfeet, Schapka or a (non fur) muff. Release your quirky kraken.

  • Monday1900

Unaffected?  Did you see the same photos I did with the “Oops!  Are you photographers here to take pictures of little ol’ me?!” expressions.  She really grates on me.

  • SistaT

I think she looks completely adorable – like a regular young woman.  Young, fresh, smiling.  I like this much more than the pouty vampy things she does all the time and I’d love to see her dressed down more often.

  • judybrowni

It’s been cold here in L.A.

Was wearing my Uggs last night, my first pair of Uggs evah, and reveling in how warm and toasty my feet were, in slipper-like comfort.

Damn fashion, I’ve become an Uggs person and at 62 will not give them up, having found it.

    • judybrowni

I live in Santa Monica, and it’s been cold here! (for us.)

  • That entire outfit should be burned (except for sunglasses, which are cute.)

  • CeeQ

So refreshing! And um….I own a pair of Uggs that are pretty much just like those except they go further up my calves…LOL!

More of this Lea please =)

  • Glad I’m not the only one who HATES those UGG boots. Where I live, it seems these hideous boots are everywhere. Everywhere. I refuse to jump on the UGG bandwagon; don’t care how comfortable or warm they are. They’re hideous, that is the only word that can be used to describe them. I will suffer in my Italian leather stiletto knee-highs. Beauty is pain, Bitches.

    • The truth is, aside from the Fug Uggs, they do make some pretty nice real boots. I am with you. I dislike the Fug Uggs!

  • Trisha26

I’m going to ignore that you compared her to Marlo/early Barbra/Mary Tyler-Moore – Goddesses all!

  • kschwarting

Yes, the outfit is kind of hiddy, but she looks so much prettier when fresh-faced.

  • ZnSD

oh, sweetie, no. here, let me help you out of those fugboots. get some desert boots, sweetie. your dad probably had a pair in high school. ask him.

  • quiltrx

I know those boots are ‘a thing’, but I hate them with a mad passion.

  • Nonmercisansfacon

    Leggins are not pants.

  • YourBaloneyDontGotNoSecondName

This right here is cute and fun and dorky, and sexier than any of her red carpet appearances.  If I liked girls in that way, the girl in these pictures is the type of girl I’d like. Maybe those ugly boots were my boots that she decided to wear just because she’s silly that way, and she’d send me a picture of her at the bank wearing them.

  • unbornfawn

Lea, PLEASE listen to your gay uncles! They know what they are talking about.

  • bitchybitchybitchy

Those boots make her feet look as if they were attacked by an angry muppet.

  • She needs an intervention.

  • I hate the boots, but it’s refreshing to see her in a “normal girl about town” getup.

  • RzYoung

Everyone with those boots needs to ditch those boots!

  • RzYoung

Everyone with those boots needs to ditch those boots!

  • Those are not boots they are slippers. How do I know? I am sitting here reading this post and I am wearing the exact same pair. Exact. Same. Pair. However, I am still in my house and in my pajamas. Someone needs to tell Lea that she has mistaken slippers for boots and that though they are warm and comfortable, they should never be worn outside the confines of your own home.

  • I swear by my Bogs in the Minnesota winter.  Waterproof, mudproof, warm, and they come in funky patterns.
