Kristen Stewart in Catherine Malandrino

Posted on December 13, 2012

We’re so inured to the effects of sheer dresses that the amount of skin showing here didn’t even cause us to bat an eye.

Kristen Stewart attends ‘On the Road’ special screening in NYC in Catherine Malandrino.

Catherine Malandrino Fall 2012 Collection

Our first thought was, “What a hot little dress.”

Our second thought was, “Well, it would be, if there was more of a lining to it.”

Our third thought was, “Still, it’s totally her. We think it’s working, for the most part.”

Our fourth thought was, “Who punched her in both eyes?”

  • Nope, head-to-toe: fail.

    • Is it me, or does it seem as though her stylists have either been playing a massive prank on her recently or they simply hate her guts and are going out of their way to make her look ridiculous?

  • Sobaika

Great dress, especially for her. Would have preferred an extra inch or two in length so she didn’t look so bare.

    Terrible makeup and terrible hair.

    • Agreed!  Especially RE the make-up.  Why the “Tuberculosis Chic” look has ever been considered a good idea on anyone is beyond me.

      • StellaZafella

I was thinking Heroin Chic…which was big on runways in, oh, about 1992.

      •  That makeup is AWFUL!!!!  Hate to say it, but that is all I could look at…the AWFUL eye makeup…..

    • mshesterp

I finally figured it out about the hair–it’s not that it looks greasy (because her hair is actually quite pretty in terms of texture, at least in these shots), it’s that it’s two toned, so the darker roots look greasy.  Come on, now–the girl can afford to have her hair colored.

      The eye makeup is horrific.

      • In a recent issue of Hollywood Reporter, K Stew talks about how she LOVES her hair stylist and she doesn’t go anywhere without him.  “He owns my hair.”, or something like that.

    • 2ndhandchic

I think the model actually looks more bare with the extra few unlined inches. I’m on board with a few more lined inches, though.

      • quiltrx

I totally agree.  All I see on the model is “sheesh, look how much space there is between her thighs!”

      • Sobaika

Yes, as you can see Kristen has had the bottom panels lined.

    •  She looks like she’s been on a three day bender.

  • It’s a’ight.  A lining would have helped.

  • She rocks that dress so much more than the model did, I’m thinking – they just got 1,000 more orders after Kristen wore it – it looks terrible on the model.

    • TRSTL

Agreed, removing the bottom two rows and shortening it made it a better dress for KS.

    • bertkeeter

      You mean cancelations?

  • Anabag

She looks cute.  I’m liking the way she shortened it and removed the sheer panels from the bottom.  It works for her.

    • J. Preposterice

I was trying to figure out why it looked less skin-revealing on her than on the model, and that’s why.  Something about seeing someone’s thighs through the sheer bits make them look more naked.  I prefer the solid bottom, for sure.

  • The dress isn’t bad, but the eyes make mine hurt.

  • HomeOfficeGirl

There isn’t a vampire in On The Road, as I recall.  Lose the eyes, babe.
But yeah the dress is SO her – she looks great in it, it’s her ‘tude or whatever.

    • ecallaw1977

I agree that it’s at least partially her attitude.  I used to be really annoyed by her because she always seemed to be so irritated and ungrateful, but I find myself starting to like her.  Ironically, it was after her whole homewrecker incident.  Most people completely busted like that would lay low for a while and try to play the good girl and change their image.  But nuh-uh, not Kristen–she’s just paraded out in one fuck-me dress after another.  I can’t decide if she’s the epitome of youthful stupidity and arrogance or if she’s just badass.

      • buildmeatower

I tend to think she’s badass, but I fully admit to having a completely irrational girlcrush on Miss Kristen.

      • formerlyAnon

I’d call it youthful (and blissful) ignorance of how frail we all are. With maybe a touch of badass, but that I can’t judge.

  • Melissa Brogan

First thought: are those leather granny panties?
Second thought: nope, that’s leather lining
Third thought: who punched her in both her eyes?
Fourth thought: (on closeup) is her makeup artist drunk?

  • Cheesely

I actually think the eye makeup works for her. It’s not a look most people can pull off, but she still looks grungy, sexy, edgy, sultry: her usual self.

  • She looks great but the makeup is weird…

  • ConnieBV

Maybe it’s just because I’m obsessed with all things Les Mis latley, but I’m not hating the makeup. Consumptive chic.

  • Kenisha Hill Phillips

I actually like the dress. I hate her hair. That eye make up is too much.

  • The eyes were the first thing I saw. Purple is no better than the pink that’s been going around. I think it is a great dress and totally her. She wears it with such aplomb that it doesn’t look trashy.

  • MarissaLG

    Well…she looks like a vampire.

  • alyce1213

My thoughts exactly.  It really is a beautiful, sparkly ‘party’ dress, but it would work so much better if the shiny black underneath covered her belly.

And the makeup, and the hair …

    • RebeccaKW

My biggest issue with the dress is the wrinkly mesh.

  • Hot. Vampire eyes do that in the light!

  • tereliz

Yikes. Earth to Kristen: pop of color in an outfit should not be red eye-makeup.

  • crash1212

Ick. She has great eyebrows, though.

  • kimmeister

I’m glad the dress has some lined parts, rather than it being her actual undergarments showing through.

    • In_Stitches

I couldn’t agree more.  It takes it away from a trashy place.

  • Mismarker

It was me! I punched her in both eyes.  But, on second thought, that was probably just a dream.

  • she’s probably dating Chris Brown now

  • SpillinTea

For someone who can look so damn beautiful when styled right, she sure loves to look like a trashy whore.

  • Louise Bryan

I wondered about her black eyes, too.

  • warontara

Eh. I don’t hate it, but I don’t really like it either. I like the unaltered version better. With the extra sheer panels on the bottom, it gives it more of a “I’m wearing a tiny leather bandeau bra and a tiny leather skirt under this see-through dress” effect that works for me.

And the eye makeup just makes her look like she has allergies or has been crying for hours.

  • Lisa M. (ReVoir) Kramp

With the exception of her hair and makeup, I love this look. The makeup drone who thought large amounts of red-brown looks good on fair-skinned girls should be taken out and shot.

  • My first thought was, “Dang, girl, you HIGH. Invest in some eyedrops!”

And then I realized that she probably paid someone to make her look like that, and I wept for the state of humanity.

  • Sara__B

The dress is perfect — for her.
The hair is her typical mess — if you’ve ever seen a video of her, she can’t stop pulling it back and letting it fall.
The eye makeup is awful. She looks contagious.

The dress looks better on her than the model!  She had the bottom 2 rows of mesh and whatever removed giving it a cleaner look, IMO.  The hair and make up don’t work for me but the dress is very her and fits fab.

  • RedRaven617

Along with Tom Ford, she has just hit my “irrationally hate” list. Those eyes! Like a really bad case of pink eye.

  • Love the dress. Even if it’s sheer.
HATE the 19th century consumptive eye makeup.

  • rkdgal

Purple eyeshadow is supposed to accentuate green eyes (which it appears KStew has), but when it leans too much towards red it just looks like hot, buttered ass.  As a green-eyed monster myself, I know it’s a tricky one to pull off.

    •  Having it all around her eyes doesn’t help – but it does make the eye colour pop. As a blue-eyed woman who has made all of the mistakes with the orange/peach colours that are supposed to do the same, I sympathise.

    • MilaXX

She would do better with a neutral eye and a deep plum or eggplant liner smudged. That’s a  much better way to make  green eyes pop.

    • “Hot buttered ass” is such an awesome phrase, I am starting a rock band just so I can call it that.

  • Hate the eye makeup. Ridiculous. She has the potential to look stunning, but this isn’t quite working for her.

  • E. D.

FAIL, especially the hair and makeup.  She needs to chop her hair off and stop using it as a security blanket.

  • mmc2315

I love that dress on her, it’s very KStew, and was happy to see the black panels extending down to the hem (unlike on the model where there are a couple sheer rows).  I despise the eye make-up and wish she would have opted for some killah shoes.

  • She’s never done a damn thing for me, even when she hits the right high notes, but my sis saw her at a screening the other night and said pictures will never do the justice of seeing her in person. I even believe fence-jumping might have been brought up. So…

I’m just gonna go with that. Forever. Cuz I just can’t otherwise.

    • formerlyAnon

I appreciate your anecdote about your sister. The difference between some people’s appearance in person and in photographs or on film fascinates me.  I wonder a lot about how much of it is physical stuff that is not properly captured, and how much of it is how one moves and carries oneself, and what part of it is simply an elusive human-to-human thing that is hard to characterize.

Somehow it’s way more interesting to me when it works in that direction rather than when someone is more arresting in photographs or on film.

      • I’m generally, almost alarmingly unphotogenic, so I appreciate your comment and yes, I agree. Far more interesting to know/experience someone in person.

  • Pants_are_a_must

    Disco mummy.

  • SewingSiren

Kristen clearly thinks linings are for old people. Back when I was a pup , I used to wear bright pink blush for eye shadow and I wore red mascara too. I think she needs red mascara.

    • formerlyAnon

Ha! Your youthful memories track close to mine.  We were far more fabulous than we thought, and there were days when I felt pretty fabulous.

  • Like the dress on her. It’s very “her.” But why would you even let a makeup artist do that to you? How can you not look in the mirror and see that you look consumptive?

    • luciaphile

Are they remaking Camille or LaBoheme? Maybe she’s angling for a part… I do like the shorter length of the dress, but it just looks cheap to me.

    • formerlyAnon

I don’t know how the thought process works when one’s appearance is such a deliberate and studied facet of one’s professional tool kit. But she’s in her early 20s and when young I definitely wore a lot of looks intended to be “interesting” – or what I considered interesting at the time, god help me – rather than conventionally attractive.

      edited, for clarity

  • stubbornthoughts

That eye makeup is horrible. She looks like she should be in bed under heavy antibiotics.

Cute dress, would prefer the length seen on the model (and a lot more lining).

  • Lilithcat

Our fourth thought was, “Who punched her in both eyes?”

That was actually my first thought.

  • MilaXX

I almost like this on her. I think it needs one more black stripe on her mid section. Makeup is horrible.

  • Annabelle Archer

It’s like she just keeps remaking different dresses us the same fabric.  She’s an etsy nightmare!

And it looks like she has finally gone and found a make up job that looks horrid.  Now that took real effort because she can usually be counted on to give fabulous (if unsmiling) face.

  • lehen

for some reason, and against my better judgment, i think the make up looks ok in the close up picture.

  • Ruth Preston

    Consumption is the new black.

  • DTLAFamilies

One of the sheer strips hits her belly in such a way that it looks like she has a pooch. No me gusta.

The eyeshadow is an abomination unto God.

  • sweetlilvoice

The eye makeup is pretty striking in the closeup, I think she pulls off the dress. Love the pop of shoe color on the model. However, I still have no desire to see this movie.

  • IMNAngryLiberal

Little Ms. Stewart has completely been working the skank look since her little indescretion, hasn’t she?  And her eye make-up is horrific.

  • Janet B

Maybe if….nope.  I don’t like the eye makeup at all.

I like the dress on her.

  • kayleymaybe

If there was ever a dress that sums up her style, I think that’s pretty much it.

    Terrible makeup.

  • Anathema_Device

Nice undead eye makeup. Well played, Kristin.

I think we need a Kristin Stewart vs. Anne Hathaway walk-off, STAT!

  • somebody blonde

You know, I think I’d hate this on anyone else. But even the consumptive eyes are working for me- she looks like a demon, and she looks good as a demon.

  • Dot

What fucking makeup artist came up with this ridiculous eye makeup look? How can those shades of eyeshadow be flattering on anyone?

  • nannypoo

    That makeup is just nasty.

  • The dress works for her – it’s definitely in her wheelhouse and looks good on her.

    HAAAAATE the eye makeup too.

  • Judy_J

That eye makeup is hideous.  I don’t much care for the dress, either.

  • gsk241

I love the dress on her, but they eye makeup is ghastly.  That trend needs to stop.

  • B_C_J

Horrible eye makeup.  She looks like a zombie. It’s interesting that the version on the model is longer (there are two more ribbons below the blacked out ones at the level of her thighs). Ms. Stewart’s version omitted the additional length and I think it was a mistake. The dress looks less chic.

  • Vulgar.  And the heroin addict makeup isn’t helping.

  • neofashionista

    hahah T LO LOL
    So true
My christmas wish is that baby punched eyes do not become a fad becuase they are NOT ok

  • She looks cold. I want to put some tights on her.

  • Kathy_Marlow

She looks like she’s dying from consumption or something. Hair at least looks clean, if flat.  Hate everything else.

  • maggiemaybe

  • afabulous50

I thought the same thing about her eyes – maybe Pattison clocked her.

  • Sara__B

Her lips match her eye shadow. Ick.

  • Everything is great here except for the makeup – the red eyemakeup has to go!

  • Imasewsure

Love the dress on her; hate the makeup although it’s different; hair looks fine – pretty color but a little meh

  • I absolutely despise people wearing their hair to one side like this. A girl in my high school class swooped her hair to one side every day and it actually got stuck that way.

  • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

    Conjunctivitis is the new black.

  • i dont love this dress, but what does it matter? how can we be expected to pay attention to her dress with all that assery going on above the neck? eye make-up hasnt looked this bad since wendy pepper, way back when. and the auburn dye makes her (presumably) natural hair colour look sad.

  • Jecca2244

I always thought THAT side of the eye shadow palette was reserved for editorial shoots only…yikes.

  • I’d like that dress better if it were worn as a tunic over pants, but it’s not bad – I don’t even mind the sheerness (much). But those pink eyes are truly horrifying; is she auditioning for a role in The Walking Dead?

  • mhleta

Oof. No. The last shot clinched it for me: a really unattractive glimpse of her belly pooch. The dress would have been much better if the lining covered the midriff, too. The eye makeup gives her post-op nose-job eyes. Kinda disturbing.

  • Scott Isaacs

I don’t understand her appeal. I just don’t. Kinda like the Olsen twins. TLo’s fourth thought = my first thought. I can kinda see if she was going for a Halston look with the makeup, but it looks about three applications too many.

    • Scott Isaacs

On second look…she actually does look like she could be a good Halston model, circa 1977. And I mean that in the best possible way. She’d fit in perfectly with Lauren Hutton and Diane von Furstenburg.

  • Pass the antibiotic ointment. Poor thing has pink eye.

  • twocee

I THINK I like the dress?  Hate the make-up.  The hair looks clean.

  • formerlyAnon

Sooo tired of all the sheer. At least she had the sense to line the bottom as if wearing a low-rise slip.

As you guys note, if lined, this dress would be great.

I’ve noted an uptick in the eyeshadow-all-around the eyes look lately amongst the young of my acquaintance. I say, go for it now before the under eye bagging starts, (if you aren’t cursed genetically already).  Glittery and gold are especially popular for festive holiday looks. Works better when the sweet young things remember to consider their natural skin tone.

  • Of course.

  • Kristy Evans

Yeaaaaahhhh….did she get pepper sprayed? Does she have consumption? That makeup is terrible. The dress is so-so.

  • EEKstl

I like the dress on her, but that eye makeup is an atrocity.

  • glennethph

I think I like this on her.

  • Maybe she was going in pregnant Bella drag?  Lol, this whole look is pretty funny, and she must always be high if she loves her hair stylist.  Either that or she has mad cow disease and her brain is disintegrating.

  • jmorino08

Love the dress! Hate, hate, hate that eye makeup!

  • Her makeup is usually flawless but even she can’t pull off the barfight chic look she’s trying here. I think maybe darker liner might have balanced it out a little? I regularly wear dark red eyeshadow with very very dark black liner (though I’m…considerably less pale than K Stew), and it looks fine.

Dress looks great on her. I kind of want it.

  • Photocall with a Vampire.

  • *guh* Enough of the consumption makeup!

And that dress does weirdly work on her.

  • quiltrx

It’s a cute dress for someone young, and more interesting than most semi-nudity kind of dresses.

Is there a petition I can sign to banish  “Conjunctivitis Eye”?  This must NEVER become a makeup ‘thing’, like the cat eye or smoky eye.  It’s horrible.

  • Her eye make-up scared the shit out of me.

  • bertkeeter

She just doesnt have the sex appeal for something like this!

  • Anniebet

Ya know, those legs get so much “lovely, long stemmed” attention in her always eight-to-ten-inches-above-the-knees skirts, but…they are so fricking shapeless. No definition, no tone. It’s like she’s carried in a sedan chair everywhere she goes to prevent any hint of (gasp!) muscle forming in those limbs. Heck, even Barbie has better toned legs.

  • Interesting, I think she looks surprisingly not naked considering how much actual skin is showing.  I think lining the skirt all the way to the bottom helps considerably.

Nothing helps with the hair and makeup though.  That’s unfortunate.

  • RzYoung

I quite like the shiny leather undies under the sheer. Eye makeup is horrible, her hair looks nice though ( and by ‘nice’ I guess I mean ‘clean’).

  • Her eye makeup exactly matches her lipstick. Someone should be fired for that.

  • Cathy S

I think she looks great in that dress. When I got to the last picture all I could think was, what the hell happened to her eyes?

  • She looks consumptive.  And her hair looks like she’s been growing out a bad dye job for six months or more.

  • warnerave

    she looks great ..

  • julnyes

The dress works because it is KS wearing it. It is very much in her wheelhouse. The eye makeup is atrocious.

  • It’s not that much skin for a 20s actress. It’s actually seems more covered than what that girl from glee always wears.

  • I think she looks fantastic -except for the bad eye makeup.  Her hair looks redder, I liked it better darker.

  • guest2visits

My God she must be ready to punch the crap out of that movie promo.
Shorter didn’t improve this dress, and it would actually be an ok dress if it were not see through.

  • Pam Winters

I hate the makeup, but this dress suits her to a T. Just skimpy enough, just dark/metallic/goth enough.

  • AnnPopovic

Wrong makeup; she’s vampire, she went with zombie.

Whatever. It’s a cute dress but I don’t want to see any of them for three full years.

  • barbarienne

I hate the eye makeup, but damn, the girl is rocking the dress.

  • FridaStaire

I think she looks like an undead girl Elvis.. and I like it!

  • She has the eyes of an old white poodle.  And that’s just gross.
