I have problems with the dress, but I’m most concerned about where the heck her chesticles went?  Is it the dress?  Is she binding herself?  Did John Mayer steal them?

      • gabbilevy

There’s one heck of an optical illusion happening here. A pretty one though… I like the bodice beading.

      • http://twitter.com/lisledanielle Danielle Lisle

Took the words right out of my mouth.

      • HomeOfficeGirl

Huh - you’re right.  That is weird!!

        • Kristin McNamara

I wonder if the illusion would hold up if we were to see a side-view.

      • j_anson

One hesitates to suggest that this ever occurs in the real world, but perhaps she often wears volume-enhancing bras!

        • ShayShay

Nopes.  She stated in an interview that she was in size D bras at age 11/12.  They’re hidden in all that green fabric.

      • http://profiles.google.com/sauchih Sau-Chih Feng

The dress is bigger on the inside!

    • TLJezebel

Why does she always look like she belongs at Madame Toussaud’s?

      • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_VZLU6YVO4BRTELTTH3GRAAMWZQ Dot

I agree — her makeup looks far too plastic to me. Having great skin is one thing, but looking like you spackled it on is quite another.

        • http://twitter.com/pronouncethe_e Mary Armes

Her make is more ‘plastic-y’ than usual, but she does have acne issues, so, at least from what I have seen of her in the past, her make up is usually pretty heavy.

      • bellafigura1

Plasticky, and she’s looking so stare-y in the eyes lately, I dunno.  That floppy hat picture from the other day, same faraway eyes.  Kinda doll-like.

        • http://twitter.com/OhFaerieNuff Laurie S. Neilsen

That’s probably the best way to make sure no one gets a half-lidded picture of you looking like you’re drunk or about to fall asleep. You just lock in a smile, widen those eyes, and try not to blink. It looks fake as hell, but it’s a fair sight better than my DMV portrait.

        • anditern

          She’s in love.

    • schadenfreudelicious

while i appreciate that emerald green has been named the Pantone “it” color for 2013, this satin incarnation is not doing her any favors, that waistline is awful, the slit unflattering and amazingly it makes her look almost flat chested….

    • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

Other than the color, which is fab on her, nothing else about this is sending me over the moon. It’s nice, but not amazing.

    • In_Stitches

She’s got the skin for green, even that odd green, but that’s just too damn much of it.  That necklace suits her to a T, but unfortunately it looks like she disassembled one and glued the pieces to the front of her dress.  It’s too much of a match.  There’s so much here that should work that just doesn’t.

    • TAGinMO

I think she looks quite lovely here. My only criticism is that the slit is poorly placed. A little further off to the side (and/or maybe just a tad shorter), and this would be almost perfect.

      • TheDivineMissAnn

Yep.  The slit is in a awkward spot and detracts from the dress.

      • kimmeister

Yes, that first picture looks so awkward with her trying to stick her leg out.

    • LLuL

What has he done with her? I miss her old hair and makeup.

    • AnnPopovic

      Ummm…the necklace is pretty?

(It’s Christmas; I’m trying to stay positive for the rest of the year.)

    • Beth G

She’s looking ever so much more classy since her divorce.  I’m not wild about the dress (I know she has boobs… where’d they go?) but it’s still nice.

    • snarkykitten

the design on the bust looks like a series of evil eyes

    • eandh99

The side-part is far more flattering to her than the centre-part, and it’s a truly lovely necklace.  The dress, on the other hand, is ugly and unflattering, let alone her awkward attempt to show off the slit.  At least Lea Michele would’ve been able to sell the dress.

    • f_yeah_marie

Not feeling the slit placement, but the color looks great on her.

    • http://twitter.com/YINZERELLA DinnerIsServed1972

All I can think of is Teresa Guidice’s Christmas pageant dress from this year’s RHONJ reunion

    • B_C_J

This dress is underwhelming. The gathered waist thickens her silhouette.  The dress is really a green satin sack that was cinched in at the waist. However, the color is beautiful.  Her hair is too opaque a sign that it is being over-dyed. The make up is heavy. The overall look is not great.

    • http://frockpaperscissors.blogspot.com/ kvlm

Nice color, does nothing for her style wise.  The slit falls in a weird place on her body.  Coupled with the placement of the waistline, it makes her looks a little less vavavoom and a little more whoville.

    • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

      WERQ!!!

    • http://twitter.com/foodycatAlicia foodycatAlicia

I think she looks great. Not noteworthy, but very, very pretty.

    • Imasewsure

Love the necklace and the shoes… hate everything else but the color of the dress…

    • Jess5628

I think she looks great. Yes, the slit is awkward, but I think the color and bodice are great on her. I wish she would lighten up on the black hair just a bit, but at least it’s not blue any more!

    • http://remedialstitcher.blogspot.com/ Sara Leigh Merrey

      I love the necklace!

    • leave_Blake_alone

That’s a great color on her. I pretty much love this look, but the makeup is a little heavy.

    • http://www.ellenciompi.com/ NurseEllen

Love the necklace, love the color, hate the dress.

    • formerlyAnon

Lovely necklace. Not sure the dress is upmarket enough for it, but whatever its faults, this ensemble is trending back to the K. Perry I look forward to seeing on the red carpet.

    • http://twitter.com/PhDKnitter marlie

I’d cut a bitch for that necklace. The dress is pretty, but I with that it were more matte.

    • http://profiles.google.com/scaponigro Sarah Caponigro

She looks bored at all her appearances lately.

    • FrayedMachine

You know what, I like her when she puts on actual clothes. The entire ensemble is quite nice. The only thing bugging me is the hair. Not quite sure why but it’s not sitting with me.

    • alyce1213

The emerald green is gorgeous – and Pantone’s 2013 Color of the Year.

For a change, the bust is not too small or revealing, but I wish it were more fitted. The gathering makes it look sheet-like
I love the necklace and shoe color — excellent choices.

    • ankali

If she had converted that necklace into a belt, this would be a WERQ for me. I think she looks stunning.

    • http://twitter.com/leliarocks Lelia Mae

Is it just me or does she look bloated recently? I feel terrible asking that – she obviously is not “fat” by any means – it just seems the past few TLo posts she has looked a bit pudgy, almost lacking her normal cray “spark”. Hmmm – I blame John Mayer

    • decormaven

I’m going old fuddy duddy here, but I miss hosiery being an accepted part of fashion. With that shiny fabric and slit as a central focus, every imperfection on her legs’ skin (and feet) becomes more apparent. The fact that her facial skin is so smoothed out highlights this fact even more for me. The necklace is gorgeous, though, so there’s that.

      • alyce1213

I hope the ever-naked leg is a fading trend. It’s fine in warm weather with the right legs, but hosiery is desirable much of the time, especially for a finer finish to certain formal wear, like this.  I can’t wait for a big selection of pretty and arty hosiery to come back.

    • j_anson

This is her color. She totally owns it.

    • ShayShay

I can’t believe she’s wearing YSL and a million dollar diamond necklace, yet I’m about to criticize her look.  Oh well, here goes . . . her shoulders are too rounded for this sort of strapless sweetheart neckline.  She practically looks hunched over.  The dress is dowdy; I don’t care for the pleating or that wimpy slit up the front.

    • Janet B

The color is gorgeous on her, but the dress hides her figure.

    • teensmom99

Somehow the whole is less than the parts and I needed TLo to analyze this for me and explain what went wrong.  Please?

    • estella_nyc

John Mayer, what have you done to my Katy Perry?  All of her sparkle is gone.  Her hair is lackluster, she’s wearing 10 lbs of makeup, her eyes are vacant, and even her boobs are deflated.  Where did my California Gurl go?

    • http://vhanna26.typepad.com Vera

She’s gorgeous; the dress is okay, but not her best effort, and where’s her cleavage?

    • guest2visits

The dress is pretty; but it looks like the kind that needs to be hoisted regularly. And the slit looks like it should be off to the
side, or in the back, or just gone.  Beautiful necklace.

    • MilaXX

Lovely color on her. Apparenrly green is the new IT color

    • Iroqhard

The bodice is doing weird things to her boobs. It’s making her look flat chested, which I don’t think she is.

    • http://www.facebook.com/iris.liu4 Iris Liu

      1. The balloon-y dress does nothing for her figure.2. Where did her boobs go?
      3. That backdrop is tripping me OUT.

    • l_c_ann

“2. Where did her boobs go?” and similar questions

Maybe her ex- got joint custody in their divorce settlement.

    • quiltrx

Beaded green theatre curtains?  No thank you.

But the color is great on her, her hair looks beautiful, and that necklace is perfect.

    • http://www.facebook.com/sapir.polak Sapir Polak

Am i the only one who thinks this dress looks cheap?

    • Corsetmaker

Strange, her boobs seem to have gone away for a wee holiday, maybe to the same place as HBC’s had the other day.
I love the colour, love the beading, love the serious jewellery. But the dress isn’t hanging right. I looks limp.

Also Katy Perry seems to have only two modes – full on hyper pop babe or distracted and not quite present.

    • plinkiedoodle

Okay, I kind of dig this look on her.

    • shanteUstay

I love the whole thing on her, but I have to say, not a huge fan of the kermit the frog green

    • http://twitter.com/nonchalantanna Anna

Bright, bold – love it. Fucking fantastic, all around.

    • kategs

She wears color so beautifully, she looks great here.

    • FridaStaire

      Put your hair up, Katy!

    • http://twitter.com/mhleta Martha Hicks Leta

She looks pretty enough. Love the color on her, I like her hair down because it looks luxurious. I would like to see a bolder lip color on her. (The nude lip and the nude shoe can please trot off into the nude sunset together.) But why always with the pancake makeup? Does she have really bad skin? She should call Cameron Diaz’s dermatologist.

    • Carly Warnock

doesn’t this look just scream elizabeth taylor? the colour and the jewels just seem so liz.

    • http://twitter.com/peacebang Victoria Weinstein

A rare flop for Miss Perry. Draggy dress in a garish color.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1241487378 Lauren Lynch Fox

      Pretty, but not really Katy.

    • librarygrrl64

Usually when a dress has a beaded bodice, I say skip the necklace. But I love how the design of it echoes the design of the beading. It’s very striking. But the bodice fits her strangely. I guess it’s supposed to be loose at the top???? And the slit seems like it’s in a weird place: not quite center, not quite side, not quite left thigh. Maybe if it had been center or thigh but not as high? Good color for her, though. Not sure about the hair. A fussy up-do would have been too formal and old-fashioned. So, I think I like it like this.
